As promised yesterday, Team M33 has finally released their PSP Slim Custom Firmware 3.60! Hey, if there's one thing we know about committed homebrew developers, it's keeping the promises you make - which, as we previously heard, Fanjita did despite supposedly being retired already.
So, has everyone got their PSP Slim already? Nice, on with the Team M33's notes!
We are proud to present the first custom firmware for the PSP Slim, and the first custom firmware that runs using a 3.XX IPL (3.60).
3.60 M33 for PSP Slim has all the features of 3.52 M33, except the 1.50 kernel support, as that kernel doesn't work properly on psp slim (hardware problems, screen problems). 3.60 M33 will load homebrew from GAME, GAME150 and GAME360 directories, but all will be executed with 3.60 kernel.
This mean that some homebrews done specifically for the 1.50 kernel cannot work on 3.60 M33. However, the adaptation of code to 2.XX+ kernels is not difficult, and homebrew developers can port their aplications to work in these firmwares.
While we've posted just as much here, you still have to go LOOK AT THE README FILE included in the download archive. We can't stress this enough. This is the PSP Slim we're talking about here - uncharted territory and all that - everyone might even consider themselves as newbies despite how "veteran" they've been in the homebrew scene.
Now, we're talking about a custom firmware here, and unless you know what you're doing, your brand spanking new PSP Slim & Lite could be reduced to nothing but A PSP BRICK & ... Mortar. (That's if you somehow botched up the installation of your Pandora's Battery for some reason...)

i admit, i dont know jack about making custom firmwares, but it seems to me that homebrew running on a kernel that's not 1.5 is seriously groundbreaking. i guess i have to give m33 credit and start using their firmwares. correct me if i'm wrong and this has been done before, but this sounds like the biggest breakthrough for the psp homebrew community ever, since it was first hacked.

We are proud to present the first custom firmware for the PSP Slim, and the first custom firmware
that runs using a 3.XX IPL (3.60)
3.60 M33 for PSP Slim has all the features of 3.52 M33, except the 1.50 kernel support, as
that kernel doesn't work properly on psp slim (hardware problems, screen problems).
3.60 M33 will load homebrew from GAME, GAME150 and GAME360 directories, but all will be executed
with 3.60 kernel.
This mean that some homebrews done specifically for the 1.50 kernel cannot work on 3.60 M33.
However, the adaptation of code to 2.XX+ kernels is not difficult, and homebrew developers can
port their aplications to work in these firmwares.
Included with the release is the M33 sdk for programmers.
Instalation:
The instalation is done using pandora battery and requires a fat psp with 1.50 or
custom firmware with 1.50 support to run a installer.
However once the memory stick installation is done, you can use it in whatever psp slim without
repeating the process again.
We want to thank C+D Team for having created Pandora and having opened the path to custom ipl's,
without which this cfw wouldn't exist.
Steps:
- Create a pandora battery and a pandora memory stick using the C+D team tools.
- Run the fat psp with the pandora memory stick inserted, but with a normal battery.
Copy the directories pandora_slim and pandora_slim% to PSP/GAME or PSP/GAME150.
- Download official sony firmwares 3.40 and 3.50, and put them in pandora_slim directory
with names 340.PBP and 350.PBP.
To avoid confussion: These firmwares are used ONLY to extend the memory stick pandora kernel.
NOTHING FROM THOSE FIRMWARES WILL EVER BE FLASHED ON THE SLIM.
- Run the program. It will quickly extract some prx's overwrting some of the pandora memory stick.
- Insert the pandora battery and the memory stick in the psp slim. It will boot. You won't see
anything on the screen, because that kernel doesn't support the slim screen, but it is OK, you
don't need a screen for the installation of 3.60 M33.
From here, you have 3 options:
- Press X to install M33. The process will last just few seconds, since the installer only
needs to install the M33 custom prx's and IPL. After the process is finished, the installer
will shutdown the psp automatically.
- Press L+R+triangle to uninstall M33 and go back to original 3.60. Note: this can't unbrick a
psp slim, it will just remove M33 ipl. There is currently no unbricker for the psp slim, but
we plan on doing one in the future.
After uninstallation, psp will be shutdown automatically.
- Press square to dump the PSP Slim nand. Watch out: you need 66 MB of free space in the
memory stick for this, otherwise your memory stick may end corrupted.
This option uses the team C+D nand dumper. When the memory stick orange led stops blinking,
the process will have finished, and you can either shutdown the psp, or use one of the two
previous options.
F.A.Q
Q: My homebrew doesn't work.
A: as stated above, not all homebrews work due to 1.50 kernel missing.
Wait for the programmer of that homebrew to port it to new kernels.
Q: How can i unbrick the PSP Slim?
A: if you have a semi-brick, you can restore it using recovery and flashing the corrupted files
with usb flash. There is no real unbricker for PSP Slim yet, but we plan of doing one in the
future using C+D Pandora Battery.
Q: is M33 gonna make a 3.60 cfw for the fat psp's?
A: The firmware as it is flashed in the slim psp's is only for psp slims. Whenever sony releases
an updater, we'll support both, fat and slim psp's, but we are not gonna make a custom firmware
using 3.60 slim dump, because it is not done for the fat psp. Stop listening stupid rumors of kids:
we are 103% sure that Sony will continue releasing firmware updates for all psp's.
Moreover, the 3.60 firmware was done before 3.52: the pops, for example, is a clone of the one of 3.50/3.51
So it has nothing new for fat psp's.

I'm just wondering how long it will take till sony releases a new firmware patch that fixes the pandora trick and have all psps on the shelf preinstalled with it. I really want to get psp slim but I can't get it until mid-late october. You think if I get get psp in late October it will still be preloaded with 3.6?
I 100% appreciate everything that team M33 is doing for the psp and all there hardwork. However I dont think its right for people to be using isos on there psps. It should be for backup purposes only otherwise sony will run out of business. Maybe we should leave the psp slim alone so that whoever buys the slim will still buy original sony games.
Pandora doesn't care what firmware you have, it can always downgrade. Theoretically, it could downgrade an unhackable firmware. So no, firmware patches will not "fix" the Pandora trick.
I would suggest getting it sooner rather than later, Sony could always think of something.

i'm like 90% sure that 3.60 M33 has full kernal access lol. the only thing is that it has full kernal access to the 3.60 kernel. did you mean dual kernals? like normal 1.50 + 3.60?
Actually the pandora battery doesn't work on the slims, yes this custom firmwares requires the battery to install it, but it cannot unbrick since the slims uses a different code. But i think Sony could fix it with a code, it depends on the PSP though. If the PSP chip thingy that has the third pin downgrade/unbrick can be flashed, sony could change the code in firmware updates. Also I guess Sony could try to do more protection on the slim, maybe like if u pop in a game with a higher firmware it might tell something that the nand cannot be rewritten on to, but since the chip is rewritable i guess a hack could come out if this happens.
i know, if you can use pandora's battery to boot 1.50 from ms0, you can't use it to boot 3.60 M33 from ms0?? 64 mb nand isn't a limit on a 2+gig ms.

actually pandora does work. it's the 1.50 ipl (that the magic memstick uses) that does not work. M33 got around this by using a combination of the 3.40 and 3.50 kernel and ipl.
I already had one for the fat just in case one day I need to do a recovery. I wonder if I have to go thru all the steps to make another memory stick again or I can clone the memory stick directly then use it for creating the slim memory stick? I assume the same battery is ok.

I must have done something wrong when making the battery cause when i put the mem stick and battery in the slim, it just powers on, it does not shut down or even show lights that its doing anything...

I used Devhook to run 1.50 homebrew on my 2.60 PSP, with GTA some months ago.
And stock 2.60 firmware does not have a 1.50 kernel!
Please help me, I am stuck on the "Run "installer" through the firmware on the PSP." part. Wen I run the installer on the psp it says game cannot be started. So what do I do?
