With the PSP Go release date just around the corner, it seems Sony is pretty determined to prevent the hacking community from tinkering their brand new handheld by releasing various firmwares. Now PSPGen is reporting that Sony has already released a brand spanking new beta version of PSP firmware 6.0 for official developers to test their games and adapt with the brand new firmware.

Last time we check, Sony included a mandatory install of OFW 5.55 for some titles that prevents custom firmware users in playing the game. Then, during last week's GamesCom, another firmware 5.70 was spotted inside the PSP Go during a testing event. And now this? According to PSPGen, they're still on the process of learning the changes of the OFW 6.0 so stay tuned.

why do sony make so many gimicks

think about it the pspgo is just a gimick about as much use as a lead balloon (for homebrew and cheap games)

» Don't get your hopes up

TMX are fakes, if you really want a new custom firmware then you have to wait for DAX. Gen can only do so much and other then that there's no one else.

I'd say 6.00 = PSP-Go's firmware it comes with at launch. It'd only make sense with the number leap (they jumped to 5.00 when the 3000 came out, and they even had a 5.00 for developers). From 4.00 to 5.00 they added the PSN, so I guess they'd have to add something somewhat big (could even be the PSN's comic reader).

» yea...

I can see that, I wouldn't want to see Pissed off CFW users in the coming months.

I'm kinda lost here... Can't you just put an iso of the game on your memory stick and play it that way without the newer firmware or did something change? I remember playing tons of games that required a higher firmware on my 3.50m33.

Probably kernal version 6 and some more pirating preventions, u know they wont let devs have time to decrypt and make CFW out of 5.55 so they roll out another FW to stay ahead of devs. They proably will roll another one out in a few weeks lol

» Make a Patch

Make a patch that bypass Sony security updates, that you could use in CFW 5+. New PSP games Requiere New FW just to play the game, it doesnt even need any actual features in the FW. If someone makes a patch/homebrew that mocks new FW to bypass that security and keep it up to date each time Sony tries to make new FW that locks new games in actual CFW. Most of the games have the same arhitecture, they use the "X.XX" FW in order to restrain to a newer FW. The patch could work on the PSP kernel and bypass that by generating the data that the game wants as a new FW. Or it could patch the iso too. Glad if this is done, still excited for that new 5.55 MX CFW comes out soon, also glad that GEN has the 6.00 beta on their hands too! Thanks God that DA and team M33 are still on the scene.

» argh

i bet firmware package size will increase again.

fw package already includes skype for slim and newer models, and some separate psp3k modules. most likely psp go modules will also be different, which will most likely push update package size up.

is sony still going to go with "one update package for all models" ? they'll catch up with ps3 update sizes soon :]
