Sony releases PSP firmware 4.05: expanded visualizer support *Update* |
Ó
With the recent release of the PlayStation Portable Firmware 4.0, Sony was quick to announce the imminent arrival of its new version 4.05 firmware update. For those of you who enjoy using your handheld as your primary music device, you will definitely get a kick out of the latest update.
Eric Lempel, Director of PlayStation Network Operations, announced on the PlayStation Blog that PSP firmware update v4.05 will include new visualizers for music playback, among other features. There weren't any specifics given on what exactly the new additions were going to be like, but he assured everyone that we'll be able to find out more about it once v4.05 is released.
In any case, we'll be keeping an eye out for any news regarding the upcoming firmware update. Make sure to drop by again just in case we find out any new information on it.

*Update* Nice! We finally got word that PSP FW 4.05 is finally released - yeah we know we're a bit late on this (y'know how hectic the E3 event is...)! Following Eric Lempel's announcement just a few minutes ago, we now get confirmation of what's new with FW 4.05 - turns out to be quite a skimpy update. Check out the changelog:
New or revised features in system software version 4.05
Music
- The number of visual player patterns that can be used has been increased.
- This system software update includes all features contained in previous versions.
- The new system software will preserve any settings previously made to the PSP (such as the Parental Control level).
- Depending on the software title, you may not be able to play without first updating the PSP system software.
- Do not perform updates using any data other than the official update data provided by Sony Computer Entertainment over a network or on disc media, and do not perform updates by methods other than those described in the product documentation or in this site. If an update is performed using data from another source, by another method, or with a PSP system that has been altered or modified in any way, the PSP system may not operate properly and may not be able to install the official update data. Any of these actions may void the PSP system warranty and affect your ability to obtain warranty services and repair services from Sony Computer Entertainment.

Amirite?
I mean really... when's the last time Sony actually added a *real* new feature? If it wasn't for homebrew, The usefullness of the PSP would have died for me some time ago.
Lets take a look at all of the failures of the few features OFW has.... the MP3 player that doesn't allow on the fly playlists or song resume upon waking from sleep mode, The web browser that pops up "not enough memory" for nearly every website worth going to, the internet radio player that doesn't let you add new stations, The RSS feed reader that isn't compatible with text feeds (lmao of that) the video player that isn't compatible with the most used video formats, photo viewer with a size limit on images, should I go on? The point is, Sony half-asses everything. Instead of adding another visualization (w00t w00t) they should have been fixing the shortcomings of the features that are already in it... I mean c'mon... is it that hard to make real progress...
Thank you to the homebrew scene for giving my PSP purpose and usefulness and making up for all of Sony's shortcomings and failures.

The last big update was back on 3.90 with Skype.
The MP3 player does resume from waking, just press Play/START. I think this was added in 1.50.
I'm pretty sure you can add new stations to the radio player otherwise what were all those homebrew downloads that kept popping up after 3.80 was released?
Yes the video player certainly needs more attention like AVI and 3GP playback, atleast 4.00 added playback speed adjustment.
What is the Homebrew Browser you're talking about? cause I'd like to try it.

Sony GOOD JOB...thanks for making one of my wish come true for the PSP. Next thing to be added is equillizer that can set any type of mood or band.

1.Analog UP: analog down for voice removal (removes the center channel like the Sega Saturn does)
2.Analog Right: Pitch up (0-12 steps up)
3.Analog Left: Pitch down (0-12 steps down) The Sega Saturn Also does this
4.Analog Down: Plays only vocals
5.Some other features like a bandstop
6.The Ability To play songs in reverse (To find subliminal messages)
7. Adjst the speed of the song without changing the pitch.
