Sony hiding a few things with the 2.7 firmware ? |

Well, we've all read the earlier article with the official announcement about the new Firmware 2.7. Seems Sony has not mentioned a few things which are included.The guys at ps2dev.org have peeked under the hood of the new firmware and have discovered that there are many new modules. Modules, in simpler words, are like dll files in Windows. They provide the actual functions for the PSP's Operating System. If you have a bit of know-how about the PSP, you must've heard of prxes.
So what's the hype about ? Well, zshadow at PS2DEV has discovered a few new modules which Sony hasn't mentioned anything about.
Firstly, here's the list:

- irda.prx
- mm_flash.prx

But wait, there's more to get excited about. See the last prx ?
- usbgps_serial.prx
This means that the PSP might support serial-port based GPS adapters in the future. So it means that Sony is planning on using the serial port which they've put minimal use to, until now. And here's where the great part comes in. It is believed that Sony flashes all its PSPs using the serial port. And it's common knowledge that the serial port is one of the most useful ways of hacking around on any platform.
Although it's highly speculative, the usage of the serial port might lead the hackers to finding useful things about it. Think about downgrading any PSP, irrespective of its firmware. You don't need the PSP to be on when using the serial port, so the concept of Sony patching the hole with a new firmware simply does not come in.
Remember guys, this is still wild speculation. But, it isn't misplaced. The fact that the serial port is very useful for hackers can be confirmed by just about anyone. More serial port devices can only mean more places where Sony can go wrong.

As asdf said in post 22, post 15 is just a link to a pr0n site. How can anything on it brick your PSP. Investigate before announcing ***** like you all seem to be doing.
2.70 seems ot be opening up more ways of hacking, but IMO it'ws going to be months at least before anything can be done in any way.
Flash support is bare minimum, Flash 6, and even when playing something form the memory stick, if there's alot of movement, it's slow as ***** in animations, though am working on a flash based player pack such as the one released a few days ago, only nicer on the eyes, in flash (swf and fla's included) and html for easy customizing.
With everything said above, if they're opening the serial port up, it may be a way in, but once again, it could take months. We could be on 3.00 before someone hacks 2.70.
I mean, the GTA exploit took months to be found, utilized and made reasonably easy to use as a means of running homebrew.
I think for 2.70 people like me, it could be many months before anything worthwhile for us, unless it's less than 2MB and in flash format.
serial is not behind the sticker behind the battery. no one be foolish enough to void your warrenty. just some prick. serial is actually the port next to the headphones where the remote connects into. it can be used to connect other devices (when they come out) as well, not just remote, so don't get confuzzled. geeze, damn 12 year olds wanting to cause so much problems for others.
Thats almost the smartiest and dumbest thingsony did! Yes it maybe hard to do, but nothing stays unhacked. Im so excited on to what may come out now thay they may beable tohave access to that! Wow sony......wow

The serial port is right next to the headphone jack. Its actually where the remote is plugged in. And yes, the remote works using a serial port. Plus, the guy who posted the bad link has been ip banned for a month

usb is the abbreviation of universal Serial port, so perhaps they mean that you can use the usb-port for plugging in these peripherals...
The GPS better be a small attachment if its gonna use the serial port. I dont want anything hanging off my PSP

the GPS is gona be about half the size of the psp hooked up to the top of your psp. its gona weigh about 30 oz

im sure the new firmware will be hacked shortly. Specially with good hackers like Fanjita, Ditlew and Edison Carter. I believe there is something to do with the Flash Player or even the web browser. an Exploit must be hidden somewhere. GO FANJITA GO! we believe in you. Im not upgrading my 2.50 PSP until you give the green light. You can do it.

Fanjita, Ditlew, and Edison Carter don't hack firmware. They build upon previous hacks for their programs (in the case of Carter, they find an exploit in the programming of the game, different than that of firmware . . .)
They didnt seem to notice or mention this one...

I know exactly what hes doing (Fanjita). All im saying is I hope he will find some Exploit in firmware 2.70 so homebrews could be playing just like with firmware 1.50. Im sure there is lots of holes in there. Now we just need to find them. Fanjita and Ditlew are for me the best to do that. If a simple loader could be made.. without needs any games. something like (firmware 2.00). Even better.. a Downgrader. That day.. the battle (war) against sony will be won by us. That day.. My dream will come true.

yeah the camera is supposed to have a built in mic and the lens can be turned 180 degrees so you can see your self or take pictures of people
and will also be used to web cam chat without writing,
its like the ultimate phone except you gotta be near a wi~fi hot spot to acsess the web cam and stuff
it would be very usfull if the psp could be connected online all the time like phones or i think laptops

also the gps and the camera are going to be $40-$55

irda.prx - hmmm.... Its finally got a future!
usbcam.prx - eyetoy
usbgps.prx - gps
usbgps_serial.prx - see above
usbmic.prx - i thought you could use this for the TALKMAN program in japan (the one with a usb mic and its a translator)

I love my PSP and I keep updated to the last 2.7 firmware I bough a PSP it's to play official game! and they have some great already and new incoming games...and I wonder why you care about running homebrews and wish all have bugs?

I'm curious with the game_install.prx file, maybe it has the capability to load iso's. Lately Sony gave us a free game Loco Roco. Is this game in ISO format? If that is so, I that could be hole for homebrew programs to come in. Homebrew programs could be in form of an ISO and I think this has been done in the past:

not all homebrew has bugs. the programs people make can be quite fun and exiting, while others are boring, since there not games, there applications which are great all the same.
loco roco is in EBOOT form and has been signeb by sony. A good theory all the same
also has mic psp feature could this lead too blue tooth microphone controlled gps? or some kind of multimedia chat program? turning the psp into a pda, which is pimp. nice update wont update my psp yet tho, just waiting for better news ;0

To #something, yes, we've had the serial port since 1.0 but WE COULDNT USE IT AS THE FIRMWARE DIDNT SUPPORT IT. Now, with the new firmware prx, WE CAN.
You can't do anything with the files except the flash, because the other files are just set up files. The full files will come in future upgrades! I was looking on google and I saw pictures from the last Sony board meeting and the camera, GPS, mic, Ect. come out in like December!

That every time their is a new way to hack a firmware versions, sony releases a new firmware with better stuff to get people to update that will tempt people into updating. beleive me one night at 4:00 AM i saw that their was a way to hack version 2.60 and then at 9:00 Am I heard that sony released another firmware. So i think that sony is obseving the devepoment of our homebrew and they prepare a new firmware update then save it untill someone finds a way to crack the old one then they find a way to block the hack and release it in the newer homebrew which means that no matter what we do or fananji, edison carter, or anyone does sony will always be ahead of us.

Sony announced they were going to release a camera for the PSP in September. This is old news. Besides I just can't wait for the PS1 emulator. I don't see why you people don't upgrade to get the cool ***** so you can play your gay "homebrew" games. Buy a real game, it's definately better than any "homebrew".
Don't know about you but I don't want 2.7 hacked just yet, the faster we hack it the faster Sony will block that ***** on 3.0 where it really matters. ;) In fact I think this whole "firmware 2.7" thing is just a test if we find anything in the program.

I have played 1.5hours of nes roms.
My psp will collect dust until something (anything) happens.
I keep saying to my friends "wait, it will become good, useful, fun..."
I think I'm lying to them and fooling myself.
But if sony loses money on each console only to make it back off the game sales, then I guess I robbed sony, they have not recieved anything from me as THERE IS NOTHING WORTH BUYING. My phone is more useful, my tv more visible, my chess set more fun, and my ipod vastly more practical.

it's actually conceivable that a signal could be sent to a tv through usb, but it sounds very difficult... and probably not on sony's to-do list.

this is why we need proper firmware hacks, where some genius has managed to either take out the features of an advanced homebrew, or where good reliable downgraders work...

This might sound like the 2.7 is already on its way of getting hacked. But if it does next update im not updating onto Winter time for the 3.0 :->. Because the next update aint gonna be nothing but UMB Movies profiles and RSS which sucks major ass. So I rather go with homebrew on that one onto someone says thats its worth updating. Or onto Fanjita and Diltew crack the other one then ill upgrade to.

I just bought my psp and its on its 3-5 shipping days here. Im extremely worried i get a 2.7 from dell... they had a good $40 off deal so i had to take it. Heres to hoping its a 2.6 or below... and hey, if i find a 2.0 i may just write a thank you letter. Well... ill tell everyone when i get the psp.
I think that when people say that the GPS will be pointless is because they dont actually own a car and are probably in their teens or younger. Not sure if you guys know but there is a larger range of age of people that own the PSP than under 17 year olds.
I am 24, i own a PSP, i upgrade everytime a firmware comes out, i do not have time to fiddle with homebrew. I am looking forward to the GPS on the PSP as i will be able to plug into my car and hav e screen that is larger than most GPS systems out there, the GPS reciever will only cost around max £50 so that is great. I dont use my PSP to browse the internet, i have a PC so i am not to bothered about flash. I dont watch UMD movies in the tiny PSP screen as i have a tv and dvd's are cheaper than UMD's. The only thing i use the PSP for is to play games, which is why i am happy with the PSP coz i can play to my hearts content. If i want to play oldstyle games i can play them on my emulators on my PSP. The games that will be coming out soon seem really appealing (Tekken, Mortal Kombat, Syphon Filter, Lumines 2...etc)
Just to edit my last post, i meant to say that i play oldstyle game on my emulators on my PC, not on my PSP
Its a secret thing, they will have the camera MAYBE come out on 2.7 versions and later!
to fanjita, ditlew or whoever succeeds in exploiting a bug in 2.7: please dont speak of the new eloader(?) or even HOW you got homebrew running, as sony will just release 2.71.

ok listen up hackers i have an idea.if it became possable to run homebrew on 2.1-2.6 without the use of gta using a registry patch(like the font hack) the hack would still be present after a firmware upgrade,(i have tested this myself using the font hack on 1.5 then upgrading) meaning homebrewon any future upgrade sony throws at us!, if this is possable sony wont be a worry to anyone with 2.6 or less, but sadly anyone who has already upgraded or buys a new psp with 2.7 will miss out :(

I work for sony, and I was at the latest press conference. You have caught us. Sony is very against the homebrew the media has been creating, and wants to ban the sites that allow people to download it freely. By the way, I would suggest you don't try to hack 2.7, cause 2.7 has a built in homing program that allows sony to know what is happening. Just update, and we can leave this thing in peace.

i've been reading ya's post and you can upgrade to aleaste 2.6. allyou got to have is gta liberty city stories. go to fanjita's web sit and download the Eloader the newst one, the one that auto installs. hook up you PSP to the computer and when it goes to install on the computer check all the boxes then continue. after its done its going to put 3 files in your root fies in your pictures DONT!!! delete them or the file that says corupt ypu need that. after load up gta hit start load game, load the Eloader then you should see a white psp then click X on any thing you see. So basically all you need is (1.) Eloader for 2.6 (2.) GTA: liberty city stories (3:) hombrews or emulators. if you want roms ask me and i'll tell you were to get them if you dont know. WARNING IT MAY ONCE IN A WHILE FREEZE, RARELY. TO EXIT OUT HOLD THE POWER BUTTON FOR 10 OR MORE SECONDS.
WHY THE H**l do want to seal hombrews off when we bought the f'n PSP. if it is "illegly" then why wont you put your on demos on there. release a ps1 emulator or somthing because that file where the update file goes is going to waste. p.s. i want to play WMV files on here and put flash 8 on here! it's actually conceivable that a signal could be sent to a tv through usb, but it sounds very difficult... and probably not on sony's to-do list.
sony are also quite proficient at making digital cameras, so no worries there. gps? i'll tell you what, it's more useful than some people give it credit for.
homebrew is well worth having, but given that a ps1 emulator might come out i'm a bit torn... perhaps i can find a cheapo gp32x? thing is, gps, camera, microphone, wireless internet, location free tv, flash player, ps1, rss, and other potential perks... how could i not upgrade?
sony's weird system of slowly introducing features to tempt people into updating is working.
this is why we need proper firmware hacks, where some genius has managed to either take out the features of an advanced homebrew, or where good reliable downgraders work...

You can use Adventure Maker to make some small psp games and also you can download some games on the website that other ppl make.
The software can be used for free but has more features when you buy it for about $80.
its pretty cool but not the most fun. uses the internet browser of 2.0 and up (including 2.6+2.7) to play it
and its really easy to put the games on it.
