Signature Check Generation for 2.80 Decrypter Updated

More exciting news! Dark_Alex and his team has made another update. Read on: Each PSP has a special key generated area. This area then is checked by IPL 2.00+ and the firmware will just not boot if it does not match. Dark_Alex originally thought that the key area is being generated from idstorage.

He recently found out though that the idstorage has nothing to do with it, totally. Instead, it uses the encryption/decryption hardware to scramble the header of the module. But each PSP has a unique kirk engine though, and that is exactly why the sha-1 generated signature also is.

Being the programmer extra-ordinaire known all over, Dark_Alex updates immediately the newly released 2.80 Decrypter. Now, it comes with a signature check generation mod that allow users to create their own flash0. For the installation procedures, you could take a look at our previous coverage of this development.

That's another goal scored for the dev-scene! With an update like this and just DevHook missing, we are closer than ever to cracking that much coveted baby from Sony.

UPDATE: As you all might have probably heard, 2.81 has been out recently. Bad news? Nah. Because we've just found out that the 2.80 decrypter works on 2.81. What good does that do for us? Well it could only mean that Sony's newest baby may soon be emulated via DevHook!

some of the psp games i want the most are future releases like Ace Combat X, Pilot Academy: Flying All Stars, and GTA: VCS. I'm very glad to see this news as i thought Devhook would never be updated! And quite frankly, it didn't need updating until Firmware 2.80! Thank you Dark Alex and thank you qj.net!

There's no point in releasing a version of Devhook right now. We'd get 2.80 and another demo, sure. But little else.

Booster should wait until a better and more feature laden firmware is out, so that we can all enjoy the benefits.

I expect Sony will change the encryption once more, but i'm sure Booster will have an ace up his sleeve.

He has a point unless there are games that require 2.8 or 2.81, what difference does it really make in the big scheme of things?

It's likely that sony will try to close any gaps in there security that have been highlighted by this before releasing the next firmware. Either way, GTA VCS is still a month or so from release, so they won't have started pressing discs yet, which means it will require a newer firmware than 2.81 and same goes for the GPS add-on.

You may say what about support for memory sticks that are bigger than 4GB. Well, how are you going to load devhook off this 8GB memory stick when firmware 1.5 won't work with anything above 4GB.

The answer is so simply, I don't know why people keep saying it can't be done.

1)Put 4GB or less memory card in PSP.

2)Load up devhook, and boot into 2.81

(note: this is hypothetical as there's no such thing as a publicly released devhook with 2.81 at this time)

3)Put in 8GB memory card that also has devhook installed on it.

That's it, although you may need a card reader to get devhook on to the 8GB card in the first place.

But at this point, this is still useless to the average user, may be useful to some developer out there (crossing fingers) but to the average joe, this news really means nothing at this time.

Might be a stupid question but... you guys did so many things, hacked an modded firmwares, searched and found exploits, so I was wondering... isn't there somebody out there trying to hack some signed homebrew like that LocoRoco-Demo you could download? I mean, the thing is, if you could do that, all there would be to do is to spread the way how to sign your own code... wouldn't that be much easier, since you guys really know your business?

I remember that The 2.71 got decrtpted and then got a downgrader but that probably doesnt go to a downgrader oh and I cant Wait For Dark_alex or the Noobz team find a way to patch the security well i hope this leads to homebrew or downgrader for 2.80 but it leads to Devhook :(

I think that now you all can emu the fw 2.8....I don't exactly know, what this update exactly does, but if I'm right, the update from the decryption thing here is to check the key and you can do something with flash0....and maybe you now should do the thing again with the decyption and install it with mph firmware launcher( the newest one, use google^^) and i think it could work, because the decryption thing with the older one and then mph installation nearly worked, it just didnt startet ;-( but maybe it will work^^ ill try that out.
