Rumor: Sony releases PSP Firmware 5.0 to devs? |

![]()
French website PSPGen has gotten word about an upcoming firmware update for the PSP. If their sources are to be believed, a beta edition of PSP FW 5.0 has already been released by Sony. And the guys who supposedly get first dibs on FW 5.0? Official game developers, of course!
As of writing, there's still no information on what changes are incorporated in the new firmware. You'd think that, since this is a big bump up from 4.xx, 5.xx might bring in a couple of huge changes... or not.
If you remember last time, the 4.00 "milestone" brought with it Google Search and some added video playback functions - not really a "huge" change in some people's books.
So, what can we expect from FW 5.00? Well, if recent rumors hold true, we could find some tweaks that are specifically oriented towards the PSP-3000. Famitsu previously revealed some "hidden features" in the 3000, saying that it has a new "Color Space" setting under the system settings, as well as an option for Automatic USB Connection.
Also, we previously heard Sony talking about the possibility of giving the PSP a native PlayStation Store - meaning, you can directly access the PS Store without having to connect via PS3 or PC. Could FW 5.xx introduce a new browser for this native PS Store? Your guess is as good as mine.
Probably, there's also that one question burning in your head: when FW 5.0 gets released, will Dark AleX be hot on its heels with a CFW 5.xx M33? Hmm...
Thanks to DaNoob for the tip!

Sony's PSP developers have become pretty lazy in the last time. Their updates are getting worse and worse. Nothing against more features, but I see this ending up just like 4.00.
maybe they concentate too much on the PS3 and "forgetting" the PSP??

Why do people make viruses for random people?

BTW do you like hackers screwing with you while you play online games?
I mean the guys who glitch the games in their favor, like infinite health, Grenades flying out of their handguns...stuff like that.
I think the the gaming community has gone downhill if they think that hacking an online gamees is actually cool or fun...

Doesn't mean I don't trust you. I just don't trust PSPGen.

Anyways, I hope games can improve on this treat from Sony.

like chloe said, hackers have, in essence, saved the psp
i can take a guess and assume that 75% of the poeple who own or bought a psp, eith knew about or is currently using these "hacks"
and although the psp is a beast of a machine, the lack of good support from sony, would kill the psp without hacks

Arent "Hackers" the ones that interfere with online games?
Aren't "mods" the ones that actually help with CFW and other awesome homebrew apps?
Did I say that Mods were ruining things?
All of you should seriously try reading what I posted again...Unless ofcourse all of you here on QJ actually prefer going online with your psp, and having some hacker screwing up your games....sheesh..

And a Calculator, how hard is it to program?

Well, they're not. I'm a hacker, not the kind that gain unfair advantages in games, not the kind that robs online banks, but I'm the kind that makes computers do what I want, like resizing the "start" button, making gaming consoles run homebrew or simply making hardware work.
Without hackers, you wouldn't even be able to run homebrew!
BTW, "mods" can mean either modifications or moderators (probably something else as well, but those are what you think of here), neither refers to people making CFW or homebrew.

Plus, console companies take a loss from selling their console at very low prices. Their main profit is from games and game developers.
