Ratchet and Clank reportedly not working with custom firmware

Ó

Unfriendly to 3.10 OE? SAY IT ISN'T SO!!! - Image 1Uh-oh. Please let's not react (or erupt) first - let's try to get down all that can be gleaned about this story first.

A PSP Fanboy reader emailed them saying that Ratchet and Clank doesn't work with his 3.10 OE custom firmware (he never said which rev). The game would also not connect via Wi-Fi ad-hoc and infrasturcture. It's an observation mirrored among other PSP custom firmware users - not only at PSP Fanboy. Suggestions that the game itself might be glitchy were dismissed: FW 3.11 users - including PSP Fanboy - reported no glitches whatsoever.

We don't think it's... er, a "deliberate" move on High Impact Games' part. Another reader of PSP Fanboy commented that Ratchet works well with DevHook, so those holding dual homebrew firmware options have a second option. Other suggestions included keeping the clock at 333, having no plugins, and keeping configurations disabled. No concrete reports, so far, on why Ratchet isn't cooperating with Dark_Alex's OE custom firmware.

You guys experiencing hangups, too? (Just the facts, please. Let's save the drama for another day.) Any other solutions in mind?

Lock custom firmware to 2.66 and the game will work

For some reason "Default" isn't working properly with this game. No biggie.

Multi-player works. Some guy over reacted a bit don't ya think?

Turn the cpu speed down or up to 266mhz and the game runs flawless. Set the speed to 333mhz and the cut scenes and sounds mess up.

» How I fixed it

It wasn't working for me either, then someone said that it worked with devhook .52. So i tried it, set it up, and it works fine.

I usually don't use devhook when I want to play single player, I just keep it at 266mhz and it works fine. (3.03 oe-c)

by anjro - 2007-02-17 09:26
» devhook for online

ive tested 3.03 oe-b and 3.10 oe-a

game works fine if you use 266mhz

problem is it seems like the only way to get online is through devhook (i tested .52) :( which i tested and worked. at the time i only saw 22 users online though and one game.

but since it's annoying to switch over to devhook just to play online, i got rid of devhook. i'll wait til i beat the game and get everything maxed out before i get online. hopefully a better fix or something will be out by then.

The reason people keep it at 266 and not at anything higher or lower is because anything higher and the music doesn't work, and anything lower the game won't load.

You need to be running at at least 266 MHz

All plugins must be disabled for GAME

Wifi play does not work

Ok i'll try to be very specific. I have 3.03 0e-c on my psp. I go to recovery mode set umd/iso to 266 ( does that use boot.bin other options matter? cause all those are disabled) I have the game compressed .cso (maybe i bought it maybe i didn't but lets not talk about that, do you have to play as .iso cause I only have a 1 gig stick).

It's 816 mb with the update folder and I also tried it w/o that folder AND IT DOESNT WORK FOR ME! I get the black screen other people have been complaining about. Could anyone tell me what i'm doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

it seems like 3.10 OE-A isnt the most compatable firmware even for UMD's. i was tryin to play splinter cell essentials on my 3.10 OE-A firmare. it would load then at the final loading screen it would give me the error message saying the game cant be played. then a couple of days later i downgraded the psp down to 3.03 OEC. the game worked fine. it's really weird. i think i was running my game at 300mhz too.

And this is why you actually go out and purchase the game. Bringing up that you may or may not have bought it is just another way of saying that you illegally downloaded it and broke the law...you're not afraid to steal from a company, so why are you afraid to just lie to everybody and say you bought it and dumped the iso yourself? It probably doesn't work because you downloaded a bad image...and it serves you right that it doesn't work being that you STOLE IT. I hope it never works for you...go out and BUY IT!

» about Ratchet,,==..

I read somewhere before that new games automatically set the PSP speed to 266 MHZ when they launch. When a custom firmware has it set to Default (222) it forces the speed to be 222, which may be why ratchet only works on 266 MHZ. I just bought Ratchet and Clank and everything works fine on 3.10 OE-A' EXCEPT Infrastructure, which is very dissapointing. I really hope there is a way to get it working without having to load up devhook..

anyway, uncompress the iso kid, and make sure its set at 266, dont mess with anything else, leave it how you found it.

you'll fit the iso you'll just have to delete practically everything else on the memstick.

hope that helps ;)

» I have the ISO

I downloaded the Iso and it works fine for me although I have not tried the online part since I don't care about that part. I'm not afraid to say I downloaded the game for free since I don't care what anonymous internet people I will never see think about me.

As far as isos killing the PSP if that were true the Nintendo DS would be dying too since for about $25 and a 2gb SD card you can have around 40 games on the DS with no problem.

My hypothesis is that Infrastructure mode won't work because of a missing file in the firmware. Because of this, there is no way that you can play Infrastructure unless you re-flash those files back into the firmware.

hopefully what that file is would be found soon and the file should be re-included in 3.11 OE-A.
