Pspadvance500

Philadelphia, November 2, Advance Theory, Inc. has launched it's first Media Player, Content Download System and Interactive Community application for PSP (Sony PlayStation Portable). PSP Advance is a revolutionary application that enables users to maximize the device?s potential without having to convert files or remain hostage to Sony's expensive software and restrictive firmware updates.

The PSPAdvance application offers users one-click transfer of music, movies, games, magazines etc, via USB and wirelessly. But the PSPAdvance offering is much more robust then that.
Unlike other programs that only reside on the user?s PC and focus on converting files to compatible PSP Firmware formats, PSPAdvance is a fully featured Media Player that resides on the PSP device as well as on the PC desktop. This allows the user to easily sync and play any format of file on the device through the PSPAdvance Media Player without the need for format conversion. This will enable the user to have complete flexibility and empower them to realize the PSP?s full potential without restrictions.

PSPAdvance takes their offering one step further by including the first application to offer wireless connectivity. This combined with a built in Friendster style user community feature that allows users to seek one another based on their intrests or find PSP users that are doing things with the PSP that are unique and hook up for collaboration. The most timely aspect of the PSPAdvance Media Player is the iTunes style resource for audio and video content. With PSPadvance, users also recieve a PSP Alerts system that sends desktop alerts to users when friends are online with thier PSP or PC or when new applications or content is available. To add even more to this unbelievable system, users can even download or wirelessly access exclusive PSP formated magazines form their favorite publishers while listening to thier favorite MP3s.
PSPAdvance is the most comprehensive technology and entertainment resource on the market.

Advance Theory?s philosophy is based on enabling the consumer, not restricting them. Enabling them freedom in media formats, ability to share and communicate with their peers, access to content both original and licensed, and opportunity to create and distribute content themselves.

Are the links above all for the 1.5 beta version.
Sorry if Im missing the point but why?

http://isohunt.com/btDetails.php?ihq=psp&id=6732057

Thats the latest, havnt tried it myself though
by - 2005-11-04 00:08:00

Didn't work on my 2.0 firmware. They've got to make the trial version works on all versions first before convincing their target market to buy this. I wasn't impressed at all.
by - 2005-11-04 00:23:00

I'll keep DJSP k.thanks.

I'm not sold on this horrible interface... keep trying...

Maybe i should just port over mplayer and mplayer front end and charge for it! People might actually want to pay for something good. not something that "claims" to support "ALL" formats and neglects realvideo , OGM and Nullsoft Video.
by - 2005-11-04 00:30:00

I think this code is signed by Sony. But Sony isn't meant to be that nice!!!!

They must have been drunk when they did it...
by - 2005-11-04 00:56:00

The EBOOT contains code under the GPL licence. So they CANNOT SELL IT and have to RELEASE the SOURCE CODE.
by - 2005-11-04 01:49:00

I think I'm going to agree with TheCheeks.

even though I think this is a cool idea and all.

I dunno, still on the fence...but I'd rather support the homebrew scene

Unless this came from the homebrew scene.

I dunno, I'm so confused.
by - 2005-11-04 02:10:00

There's already a Datel product like this on a UMD here in Australia. I saw it at GamesWizards.
by - 2005-11-04 03:32:00

ITS NOT A UMD YOU NOOBS. they DID sign their product and it will be able to run off the MS. i dont know how exactly they signed it, but supposedly they did.
by - 2005-11-04 03:48:00

NOW WHERE IS THAT .RMVB PLAYER THAT I AM LOOKING FOR?

for those that dont know RM is a file format with quailty of AVI files, with the size of MEPG files, most commonly use....let say EVERY internet downloaded content.
by - 2005-11-04 04:03:00

Looks like it works using an eboot loader. Sorry, im not messing with that stuff on my PSP as im on 2.50 and for a damn good reason.

The graphics are that of an amature. The ads are driving me nuts and I cant see how the wireless thing works.

Im using Sony Media Manager and for its shortfalls its still a far superior product.

I can already access all the files, music, movies and photos on my PC wirelessly and from anywhere in the world I can get a net connection using my own little product and it requires nothing on the PSP apart from the browser. ITs a nice custom interface and download speeds depends on the speed of your network/internet. At home on the lan I get the full 11mbs download (now there is a need for 54g!) and via the web depends on the net speed.

Sitting downstairs, decide I want a new movie on my PSP no longer do I have to go upstairs, connect up and trasnfer. I just fire up my PSPortal and download.
by - 2005-11-04 07:02:00

Yawn...
by - 2005-11-04 07:08:00

There's a review over at
http://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk/
and I have to tell you that they are not kind. It was rated a 4 out of 10 and the reviewer says that many of PSPAdvance's claims are total BS.
by - 2005-11-04 07:37:00

Well The reason why its got adds is because its a DEMO. And yes it will be on a umd. Look at the browser part. And who wouldnt want that browser on there 1.5 come on. You dont even have to use the stupid itunes rip off. Just take your own video file and rip it in 2 parts one avi and one mp3 rename it ch1.avi and ch1.mp3 and bang you can watch a avi movie on your psp and it plays fine..

Also the only place where you can download things in RM is on P2P... Everyone else really uses AVI..
by - 2005-11-04 07:54:00

Wow, the interface for this product is simply awful. Absolute horror. And it says nothing about screen resolution or if videos can be played without that ugly border or not.

Anybody bought the full download yet? What are the differences between the downloadable and UMD versions?
by - 2005-11-04 08:23:00

fattmoley:
the reviewer says that many of PSPAdvance's claims are total BS.

Well, duh. They can't make a memory stick-based game that runs on 2.01 or 2.50, and there's no way in hell Sony would allow them to put this on a UMD.
by - 2005-11-04 08:51:00

Does nobody listen?!
THE EBOOT IS SIGNED SO IT RUNS ON ANY FW!
by - 2005-11-04 08:54:00

Hope he brings out a linux version

for now I'll try to get it working with wine
by - 2005-11-04 08:58:00

hey guys, is the link working for anyone, its not working for me, anyone got a torrent of this?
by - 2005-11-04 09:01:00

by - 2005-11-04 09:11:00

i have, it comes up with old ones, i even searched the download files and ant find it, can you please link me!
by - 2005-11-04 11:37:00

slightly off topic, today i upgraded from us psp 1.5 to a uk 2.0 firmware update, and im now able to play region 1,2 and 5???? so by updating different firmwares from different countries you can watch umd's in any region???

anyways i appreciate psp advance's hard work, it's people like this that keep
by - 2005-11-04 11:38:00

s Sony Honest!
by - 2005-11-04 11:42:00

ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!1

wow. pspupdates actually spent time writing a huge paragraph. I smell money involved
by - 2005-11-04 14:01:00

Raf....are you talking about the FREE DEMO version that there allowing you to use for FREE.

Then. Yeah, there not selling it.

the Full Version probably doesn't have that in it.
by - 2005-11-04 14:42:00

Has anybody mirrored this **** yet!? Their site is slow as hell!! Can somebody post a link please :D
by - 2005-11-04 14:44:00

So whats the point of buying the full version if you can't play XviD and Lua files? It would be really crappy.

You can't sell GPL licensed code without releasing the source code for it.

This program is the product of when homebrew developers get greedy... it looks like they took other people's code and compiled it into PSPAdvance. Now they are selling it.
by - 2005-11-04 14:50:00

WHERE THIS THE FILE. I JUST WANT TO REMOVE IT, BUT I CANT FIND THE FILE. WHERE DID THEY PUT IT. WHAT KIND OF PRGRAM IS THIS.
by - 2005-11-04 14:51:00

I seem to recall someone schooling you on the whole GPL bit...you had mentioned something about how Sony had to release something or other code because it included GPL, but this other much more knowledgeable person explained to you why that was not true. My memory is vague though...can't really remember the details.
by - 2005-11-04 16:11:00

Woah! When I first saw PSPAdvance a while ago, it seemed really, really, lame. But now, it looks incredible.
by - 2005-11-04 16:13:00

YEAH!! Im even more excited that my favorite band is shown! WOOT! FIRST COMMENT! haha, I cant wait for this, does anyone know the pricing or is it free?
by - 2005-11-04 16:14:00

DAMN YOU POSTED A COMMENT RIGHT BEFORE ME!!
by - 2005-11-04 16:16:00

wow, this is very cool!
by - 2005-11-04 16:24:00

how exactly does a version > 1.5 play a format that's not an MP4?
by - 2005-11-04 16:25:00

honestly i thought it would be mediocre but way to prove me wrong!!! i thought it would reside on the PC like many others, this is totally sweet...i wonder what the limitations are on the video size ect..
by - 2005-11-04 16:29:00

Looks AMAZING!!...Only thing is, How does it work on all firmwares? Like is it proven to work on Ver. 2.0 and up?
by - 2005-11-04 16:29:00

Seeing this realy makes me happy. Now Sony will be forced to add more functions onto their newer Firmwares until it beats this program.

One question though, what makes the full version of this program safe from being taken leaked and downloaded for free anywhere? I want to know that my money is going somewhere that no one else can access without paying. or else, just a waste of money.
by - 2005-11-04 16:29:00

Too back something like this has already been made.

http://www.xploder.net/sessions.asp?a=products&id=87
by - 2005-11-04 16:35:00

This thing sure has come along way since DJSP ;)
by - 2005-11-04 16:39:00

Wow... how did you guys get it running on 2.0>?? Tell us or make an eboot converter :D
by - 2005-11-04 16:39:00

.. THERE IS ADS??!?!? looks good but I really dotn want any ads on my psp poping up like that. that would P*ss me off to no end.
by - 2005-11-04 16:40:00

it looks cool and all... but did you guys see that huge revelon add before he played the mpeg?... i that kind of puts a chink in the coolness
by - 2005-11-04 16:40:00

Ohhh i just read that bottom part and i like #7 in the features list :)
by - 2005-11-04 16:41:00

i cant connect to the website :(
by - 2005-11-04 16:42:00

Doesn't matter Sonys PSP Media Manager is most likely better than this.
by - 2005-11-04 16:42:00

Just tried it on a 2.0, doesn't work.
by - 2005-11-04 16:44:00

Doesn't matter Sonys PSP Media Manager is most likely better than this.

HA!... not a chance
by - 2005-11-04 16:44:00

The FULL version will work on 2.00+
by - 2005-11-04 16:46:00

how do you install it to the psp? is it like homebrew apps that contains 2 folders and justr dragndrop it to the memstick?
by - 2005-11-04 16:46:00

daaaammmmm their server is so slow to download from .... pspupdates not gonna mirro this?
by - 2005-11-04 16:48:00

wow. now when the full version comes out now we can finnaly work on getting homebrew on 2.0+!!
by - 2005-11-04 16:49:00

ive known about this for a long time and i am a huge supporter of this program and cfor a long time ive wodnered hwo it will be firmware restriction free, but I dont care, Im buying this aqnd everyone else should!!! its ONLY 10 BUCKS!!!! i only wish they wulcd accept checks/MOs
by - 2005-11-04 16:49:00

OomSha, Sony PSP manager is Windows based application, it doesnt run on the PSP.

"Looks AMAZING!!...Only thing is, How does it work on all firmwares? Like is it proven to work on Ver. 2.0 and up?"

I think they mean using the UMD u can use this application on 1.51, 1.52, 2.00, and 2.50
by - 2005-11-04 16:50:00

Are we sure...? Why not release a 2.0 compliant version if there is one. If they were trying to win me over with this trial version, why not include 2.0 support? I call bull**** until I have a copy working on my 2.0...
by - 2005-11-04 16:50:00

it has an auto install. Run the executable while your5 PSP is connected and on USB mode and then it will transfer the files over to the GAMZE fodler for you
by - 2005-11-04 16:54:00

Lol I would never pay for this if there not gonna prove it works on 2.0 and above without some retarted method.

I HIGHLY doubt, they just invented an eboot that works without some trick.

Also if the server slows down when people download the trial, just think how slow downloading movies or music will be, PSP can't download very fast as is nvm a slow server.

This is a pipedream, im gonna stick to downloading onto pc then transfering on psp, probably faster anyways.
by - 2005-11-04 16:57:00

Well with a nice open source FFMPEG port in the works, I don't think I'll pay for this.

So, how'd they get an EBOOT to work on 2.50?
by - 2005-11-04 16:57:00

Dang exe's. Make a Mac version people!
by - 2005-11-04 17:05:00

awsommeeeee!!!!!
by - 2005-11-04 17:08:00

umm. Do we care? no.....
by - 2005-11-04 17:09:00

Dang exe's. Make a Mac version people!

They've said that was a plan of theirs, but I have yet to see any Mac support at all. Why don't they just release the Eboots/Eboot too? Meh, someone will upload it I'm sure.
by - 2005-11-04 17:20:00

things buggy as hell, better hope they fix that...
by - 2005-11-04 17:24:00

It's not worthless if you don't like waiting for huge videos to convert... or if you want smaller file sizes with divx... or.. or..

How much do you get paid for dissing pspupdates FusionNotSoHype?

It is pretty buggy though, so that part sucks. Hope the videos look smoother with the real player, not just the demo too.
by - 2005-11-04 17:28:00

Why watch videos in Divx that can be 200 MB when you can watch them in MP4 format in nearly a quarter of size and still in good quality?
by - 2005-11-04 17:28:00

Ohhh, I like the sound of #7.

I think they got an offical version of the SDK (back when they changed the name they said it would be an offical App)

Ill wait for the full version before I get too excited.
by - 2005-11-04 17:38:00

Can someone e-mail me this because i cant download it off their site.

ill upload it for others to download too.

keef@radio-keef.com
by - 2005-11-04 17:48:00

This would be useful to me if I could stream videos to my psp...
by - 2005-11-04 17:51:00

Downloaded with Firefox from behind one of the most heinous firewalls on earth and it was done in under 40 secs. Don't know why everyone is complaining about the speed and all.

Interesting to see if this will open up any doors for homebrew on 2.0+.
by - 2005-11-04 17:57:00

It's pretty good. I'll defenitely have to look into it when the final version is released. Chatroom people are friendly enough, so if it stays like that then the chatroom won't be unwelcome. The rest of the stuff sounds great as well.
by - 2005-11-04 18:05:00

this is cool but i can put different formats with a program it gust says like for ex. mpg-mp4 or wmv-mp4 i have a program that does tha so i can wait to get this one pice-out
by - 2005-11-04 18:08:00

"Too back something like this has already been made.

http://www.xploder.net/sessions.asp?a=products&id=87

By SteveoDBGT, at 4:29 PM ""

that is nothing like this product. All that is is a program that converts movies to mp4,this program actually uns on the psp that one doesnt
by - 2005-11-04 18:15:00

Is this only Windows based? Because when you install it, it says that it will sync with your psp and create files in the "Game" folder with the media player and it didnt do ****.....and also the psp advance programs webpages dont load at all
by - 2005-11-04 18:15:00

for the noobs still flaming this IT WILL WORK ON!!!! the PSP. Its a streaming client for music vid, etc and was made with the SDK(legal or not).ATM trial is NOT encrypted and only full works on 2.0+. cant say much about video conferenceing tho......
by - 2005-11-04 18:21:00

hmmmm...no Mac support? Fat chance of me running this.
by - 2005-11-04 18:40:00

YEEEEEAH!!!!! IT COMES OUT ON MY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!
Just like Halo 2 :)
by - 2005-11-04 19:40:00

While this is a great program and all, I think I'm the only one who will continue to convert videos to mp4.

I like my videos to have a good aspect ration, so that the psp can 'full screen' w/o distorting the look of the people. Not to mention the smaller file sizes.

So thanks, no thanks. :)
by - 2005-11-04 19:44:00

Raf, you CAN sell GPL-based programs. You just have to include the source code and allow for modification.

Also: Let's use some logic here, people. Unless this is released on UMD, it will be pirated the moment it hits the internet. There's no way to prevent people from copying a MS-based program.
by - 2005-11-04 19:46:00

looks like it works with 2.0 (with downgrader)...
by - 2005-11-04 19:56:00

Terrible program. Really buggy. Have to pay for it. Resource hog. Avoid this.
by - 2005-11-04 20:14:00

Well lets see... This will only work on 1.5 because this is a DEMO.
The real thing is going to be on a UMD. Hence you can use it on 2.0 and all the other firmwares. Also theres a web browser funtion on the umd. If you click on it in the demo it says it will be on the umd. So hey it might be cool to have if its cheap... Like 20 bucks cheap...
by - 2005-11-04 20:39:00

FFS!!! It dos'nt work on FW 2.0
by - 2005-11-04 20:40:00

The trail doesn't work on 2.5 either
by - 2005-11-04 20:44:00

dezfromktp someone said earlier that its gonna be 10 bucks. Which is almost giving it away. Yeah it looks cool but i'm not gonna get it. I don't see a need for it. I use my PSP for games and occasionally mp3's. The way I play music on the PSP is to just shove everything in one folder and play it on shuffle. So I really don't see a need for this. But thats just me.
by - 2005-11-04 22:31:00

Unless the "full" version is on the UMD.

by - 2005-11-04 22:47:00

The demo is absolute trash... I was seriously planning on buying this until I tried the demo. Not only did NONE of the content download off the Windows Advanced Media Player thing (it streamed but wouldn't let me download) but there was nothing to even try on the PSP other than see the OS... which by the way has no features other than pressable buttons and horrible cartoon background pictures. Every menu has about two full screen ads you have to go through on the PSP and if you press the O button by accident the thing freezes the unit (I saw it said press O to download afterwards but even if it couldn't connect... it shut off my damn PSP).

Without all the ads it might have been better but the fact that the demo has no interesting features sucks. PHOTO FEATURS COMING CHRISTMAS 2005 -- and after watching a horribly grainy commercial... FULL VERSION ONLY NO VIDEO CONVERSION NEEDED -- blah blah blah. If this is the way you try to build hype for the project than mission failed.
by - 2005-11-04 22:48:00

oh, and I'm sorry:

"its" should be "it's"
by - 2005-11-04 23:25:00

this is cool but i can put different formats with a program it gust says like for ex. mpg-mp4 or wmv-mp4 i have a program that does tha so i can wait to get this one pice-out

HUH?
by - 2005-11-04 23:43:00

blacksheep, this program is a LUA program. It can't do video - period.
by - 2005-11-04 23:44:00

OK, homebrew is fine cause it's free, but this completely goes against the pro-homebrew arguements. It shouldn't be allowed to CHARGE for something like this, or of course Sony is going to disable homebrew. These makers of this ad-loaded product should make this FREE. You'd think they'ed get enough money with all their ads. Probably more than homebrew producers make. They could also ask dor donations...
by - 2005-11-04 23:45:00

THATS MR BIG DAVE TO YOU:
THE EBOOT IS SIGNED SO IT RUNS ON ANY FW!

And as I said before, unless this is released on UMD, it will be pirated within minutes of its release. The chances of a UMD release are approximately ZERO, since Sony owns ALL the existing UMD recorders, and there's no way they'd publish a program that was JUST A COLLECTION OF LUA SCRIPTS.
