From the creators of the Undiluted Platinum Modchip comes PSP System firmware 1.5 BIOS in .flash format for the Undiluted Platinum flashing utility. This release is a stop-gap between the availability of the first Modchip for the PSP and the release of the Epsilon custom Bios flash replacement that will allow you to do much more than this 'unpacked' version of a 1.5 EBOOT lets you do.

So, what does this one actually do? Well, it allows Undiluted Platinum users to install PSP firmware version 1.5 onto their Undiluted Platinum chip using the flashing utility supplied with the UP chip. You can then switch between your original Bios that is on your PSP (i.e firmware 2.0) and firmware 1.5, thus allowing you to play UMD games that require higher firmware versions and running homebrew! We didn't have a spare Undiluted Platinum modchip to test this on in the QJ labs, but we have been assured by the modchip developers that this is very easy to use with the UP flashing utility.

The Epsilon custom Bios replacement should be released pretty soon and is much better, as it has support for both 1.0 and 1.5 Eboots, and of course has the godlike ability to restore bricked PSPs to their original glory. However, until then, this original firmware 1.5 should do for Undiluted Platinum users!

If you haven't ordered a Undiluted Platinum modchip yet but would like to, here are the links necessary to get yourself on the route to PSP firmware freedom:

Hmm. I thought the whole reason that the UP didn't come pre-installed with 1.5 in the first place was because they didn't have distribution rights to the firmware? So what makes this any different? Isn't this illegal too?

# UP sucks nowGuest 2006-06-28 09:30
Why waste $100, ot $200 if you're getting it installed professionally when soon we'll have full kernel access for 2.6 firmware? 1.5 loses, UP loses, 2.6 rules!

to the above poster, how does 1.5 lose, i had my original 1.5 that i bought on launchh day and never upgraded and have been with homebrew everytime. UP doesnt lose either, if you bricked your psp, youd need a modchip, and its better to switch between any 2 firmwares easily.

hye, arent these .flash files just a firmware dump packed into one file? nothing else in there right?

this woudl also make this file illegal since it is sonmy's copyrighted OS, only "reverse engineered" and so I do think you guys shoudl still host it since it is important to the PSP scene and the UP users, but i think sony might take the opportunity to sue again since they have no real defense against the modchip.

#8 is a retard. u actually think a firmware loophole which hasn't made any progress other than writing a few files to a memstick is better than owning a modded psp which can at the push of a button boot 1.5 fw / 2.71 fw or a custom fw? you're an idiot.

sony has attempted lawsuits against QJ before and the risk isnt worht it. there are other sources where the flash will be hosted. (hopefully, the UP team will make a site for themselves) and I would say that sony would take any opportunity to destroy the PSP homebrew scene and the modchip

# This bin file...Guest 2006-06-28 10:45
This file is intended for flashing onto the new undiluted platinum mod chip, if you have installed this chio then you can plug in your usb pcb and then usb cable and flash the U.P with 1.5. So for ppl with 2.7...etc they will be able to experience 1.5 for the first time (unless they upgraded from it originally) the U.P flash utility which does not use pbd files to install firmware but uses .RAR data dumps of the the flash chip in the .BIN format (hence the .bin file inthe download. Its a good file for 2.xx mod chip users to get to experience the word of homebrew until epsilon comes out

First and foremost, firmware 2.5 and 2.6 with full kernal access will be great and all, BUT it is still not as good as having a modchip. With a modchip you can have CUSTOM firmwares. Meaning you can even add features that didn't come with the latest firmware released by SOny (If you know a little c/c++) and play EBOOTS with full kernal access. How have you not noticed one of the main features of the modchip? Was it because you were to focused on the price? The price is not bad for the FIRST PSP modchip. The U.P. team has to make some profits.

Also, you need to read and learn about the topic before writing some stupid comment like "OMG OMG OMG OMG the U.P. team is going to get their @$$ kicked by Fanjita. Woo-hoo full kernal access. Wait, what is full kernal access..."

If you don't know what your talking about, please just don't comment.

# Pros and ConsGuest 2006-06-28 11:40
People keep talking trash about all firmwares...so, here we go!!!

Ver 1.5

Pro: Full Kernal Access

Easily access homebrew material

Con: No internet (I don't mean by hacking other software)

Cannot play newer games (Not supporting illegal activities)

Ver 2.5/2.6

Pro: Access to any game on the market (2.60)

Homebrew through GTA

Con: No full kernal access which means less homebrew

Not a lot of support for homebrew at this time

Mod Chip

Pro: Easily access all firmwares

Can play new games with 2.71 firmware and keep 1.5 for homebrew material

Con: Price tag

Installation process

Now, this is just a SIMPLE breakdown of all three items. I am fully aware of full kernal access on 2.5/2.6 in the future, however, you still need GTA to access it which makes it a bit difficult right now, although, in time, I'm sure someone can work around this.

Also, playing ISO's on your 1.5 is NOT a benefit because lets face it, 90% of you are doing it illegally.

I have lots of skill in soldering so I purchased the mod chip for my PSP (gotta wait for that June 30th shipping date) and I'll happily solder it myself. Only con for me was the price tag.

All items have there benefits, period! Just a matter of which one you enjoy more over the others!

Once you have that one flash to boot from you can install another update and unbrick it. The reason we coudn't unbrick them before is because we had nothing to boot from once the origional flash was bricked.

hmmmm,

looks like that 2.5/2.6 downgrader IS real, although "unusual side effects" were mentioned but not elaborated upon.

I'm gonna wait and see how this all pans out, if you did DG thru the experimental downgrader and had side effects I suppose you could then do a clean update to 2.0 using an eboot and then use MPH or whatever to go back to 1.5 with a legit intact 1.5 eboot.

im still gonna wait and see
