PSP plays original PlayStation games via remote play with PS3 update |
Ó
Here's one unexpected surprise (and what a surprise) from the latest PS3 firmware update: you can now play all your games from the original PlayStation on your PSP via Remote Play! (Discs included, so collecting those games weren't a waste of time!)
If you have the unfortunate luck of having thrown out your discs, worry not for PS1 game downloads are now also available via the PlayStation Network. To be able to play the games on your PSP you'd need the PS3 Firmware 2.10 update and the PSP Firmware 3.80 update.
Now you can enjoy your PS1 discs that you lovingly put aside (but sadly gathered dust). We don't know why such news weren't publicized but who's complaining?

"If your console doesn't support backwards compatibility worry not" What? All PS3 models are compatible with PS1 games. Check it.
Discs Hm, Nice, But Im Still On 3.52 M33, You Cant Downgrade The New Ones In The Recovery Which Pisses Me Off :\
Too bad for me that almost all of my PSX discs are backups *shame on me*
Ever heard of popstation?
All we need now is a nice 3.80 custom firmware, hopefully with 1.5 kernel support and popsloader like my 3.52v4 has. This is a cool feature, but does it really make sense to have the PS3 and PSP running on a network just to play a PS1 game off a disc?
What about if it's not over a local network? As soon as CFW 3.80 comes out, I can play any PS1 game anywhere in the world with a wi-fi hotspot without wasting all the space on my memory stick with popstation, and legitimate PSP owners on official firmware can do it too. Maybe they didn't publicize this because they want the PS1 classic section of the Playstation Store to do well, even though it only has about 10 games in it.
Come on Sony when in the world will you put FF7,8,9 on the PS store. Or at least make us able to download the game on the PS3 hardware and stuff. I want my PS1 classics on the PSP at all times. Does anyone from QJ know Sony's personal email address. Im serious i will email them.
Popstation anyone? The only real good thing about this is saving the memory on your PSP.
too late. We already have it. lol
Does this mean you can put image files of the PS1 games on the PS3's hard drive and play them anywhere in the world, so long as the Ps3 and PSP are both on?
Don't forget, the 40 GB version doesn't have that feature I think.
Would you let people do that if you were Sony?
You don't need 3.80. As long as you have 3.71 m33-4 with the remote play prx's from 3.73 (i forgot which ones they are, but if you google it you should find some instructions on how to do it), you can remote play and play ps1 discs/downloads. Also, if by "running on a network" you mean connected over the internet, no. You can just connected the psp directly to your ps3's wifi. Unless you just mean is the feature as a whole is worth it, in which case, yeah if you intend on playing a ps1 game on a disc on both the ps3 and PSP. Transferring saves from PS3 to Popstation is a pain in the butt, as i learned last night (Big ups to sony for making all that time learning how last night worthless)
I've been playing FF7 and FF8 for a while now. You do know popstation right? FF7 runs great and 8 randomly locks up so you have to save every 5 minutes. You have to use popsloader and the 3.10 version works the best.
Basically
The people who dont have popstation lol. So this is the official way.
Doesn't have the emotion engine for Hardware Emulation but still does the Software one.
Why would Sony support ISOs (You said image files)
Not all games support software emulation, and most of the new PS2 games were built using the most advanced features of the emotion engine and as such, will no longer work. PS1 games should continue to work without a hitch I would think.
...not a matter of supporting them, but if it reads the disk just like any PS1 disk, I wonder if that could be the case. If not, and it takes actual homebrew where it first has to be able to be read by the Ps3 first (aka playing backup PS1 games on the Ps3 system itself), then this might be something where once that happens, this may become possible as well. I have plenty of PS1 games, though, so I'll try it out. Xenogears on the PSP? Yes please!
Well, yes, I've been using it since day one now, But I would like to be able to play PSX games on my PS3 too, you know. Just for that nice nostalgic feeling. And I know this article is about playing PSX games on your PSP (albeit through your PS3)
after all these months of gruesome bashing on the ps3 and sony, there are still stupid dumb people lurking on every game website. the 40GB if 99% compatible with PS1/PSone titles, be it downloadable or discs. on discs the region lock is defeated IF you popstation it on the psp. emotion engine has nothing to do with ps1 emulation. if a ps1 game discs doesnt work on a real ps2 it will also not work on ps3. and for me backwards compatibility is a cool bonus feature, it is not a hindrance on buying a ps3 because lets face it, we are tired of playing old games, we buy ps3 to play next gen games and next gen movies (bluray). if it really pains you that the new ps3 doesnt have backwards compatibility, just buy freakin ps2. or better yet a PS3 60gb model. you whiners are such pains in the web. i would rather have a ps3 that only plays ps3 games and bluray discs than have a console that are always in verge of breaking with red lights. people above me should be taught how to use wikipedia, google or any internet search engines so that they can easily do a research before posting stupid moronic comments. 60gb/20gb model - plays ps3 games, ps2 games, ps1 games and downloadable games from PSN 80gb model - plays ps3 games, most ps2 games, almost all ps1 games and downlodable PSN games. 40gb model - does whatever the 80gb model does minus the ps2 games playability, 2 usb ports and multi card reader.
Remote Play is precisely the reason why the Wifi-less 20GB model was pulled from shelves.. With a feature like this finally showing true funcionality of the feature and more PSN titles supporting it all the time.. I feel sorry for the adopters of the 20GB.. they should get a voucher for a cheap swap to a 40GB if they care not for Backward Compatibility. Oh well.. Huzzah 60GB
Uh you need to be aware of somethings. The 20 GB was updated to include remote play The 20 GB...so long as connected to a wireless router via ethernet cable has the same capabilities as everything else. I've had my PS3 for over a year and upgraded the HDD...and I have full backwards PS2 compatibility. Who's the poor shmuck now?
you idiots! ALL PS3 models play PS1 games. The 40gb does not play PS2 games!
I think with the new PS3 FW 2.10, you can access remote play over internet better. I could never get my psp to connect either, but I tried it yesterday and it connected over the internet. They also added options to adjust the connection speed to make it better once you are connected. I am also running 3.71 M33-4
This will be great, I can now play FF7 on my psp without any custom firmwares or any other programs.
entra programs. ps3 para psp?
