Sony has fired out a quick firmware update for their PlayStation Portable handheld consoles. If you feel like updating your PSP up to firmware 5.01, check the Network Update feature of your PSP as we've just gotten word that firmware 5.01 is now available.
Firmware 5.01 fixes an issue where PSP owners using 8GB or 16GB Memory Stick PRO Duos get a message saying there is insufficient memory space on their Memory Sticks while downloading stuff from the PlayStation Store even when there is enough space.
We'll update you guys with a full changelog once we get more details.

Wow that was faaaast..I didnt even know they were going to be uploading a new firmware so soon. I wonder what's in the update besides security fixes... If only there was an update that fixed the darn scanlines.

I couldn't figure out why my 8GB card wasn't working. Need an M33 patch.
i have a 16 gb mem and mines works fine when i dl things from the psnetwork store

seems that with this new update, users on 5.00m33 can no longer access the PSS (playstation store) hopefully DAX will come out with a patch for this. 5.01m33?

So I can't access the Sony store without a firmware update - clearly this is to fix one issue of inept programming (Memstick issue) and another to lock us out of the store. Which I can access on my PS3 or PC. Well, guess I've no choice but to go official then! Bugger, the sarcasm detector just exploded.

Obviously they changed the code to block custom firmware...
you can no longer access the PSS with 5.00m33. the PSS checks your FW when you try to log on to it and it gives you an error stating that you need to update your FW (to 5.01) like i stated before, hopefully DAX will come out with 5.01m33 or a patch to bypass the check.

I mean, I don't really care about being locked out of the store, but not being able to play online wipeout pulse kinda pisses me off.
When 4.00 came out it was only a couple of days later that 4.01 was released. Is this how $ony is going to do their updates just so cfw users won't be on the latest firmware. The PS Store to me isn't a big deal because I have a PS3 that I can access it with, but online play is another issue. Perhaps M33 should start waiting a week or so to start on making new cfws so $ony doesn't pull this bull$h*t again.

Custom firmware is detected by the Playstation Store. Regardless, the store will ALWAYS suggest you update to official firmware. To get around this, you will need to install Dark Alex's fake FW version plugin. Go fish, but that still likely won't address the memory issue in 5.00. -
use hellcat's recovery flasher 1.40 and keep the 5.01 ofw update on your memory stick with dc7 of course. That way you can go from 5.00 m33 to 5.00 at will.
