PSP homebrew - CFW 6.38 ME-2

Homebrew coder neur0n continues his steady stream of releases with 6.38 ME-2, a custom firmware for PSP-1000s and PSP-2000s. The coder notes that the degree of stability of this release is still unknown, so users are advised to test and refer to other people's test results.

Below are a few notes from the readme file included in the archive. Feel free to head on over to the QJ.NET PSP forums if you have any questions or wish to discuss this release further.

CFW 6.38 Minimum Edition for 01g, 02g model by neur0n

From 5.00M33 -> OK
From 5.50GEN -> OK(may need to edit version.txt)
From 5.50Prometheus -> OK(may need to edit version.txt)
From 6.20TN-D -> OK
From 6.20PRO-B4 -> OK
From 6.35PRO-B4 -> OK

Installation:

First, you need to install CFW or HEN in your PSP.

Copy UPDATE folder at ms0:/PSP/GAME/.
Put 6.38 official update at ms0:/PSP/GAME/UPDATE/638.PBP .
Run installer from xmb.

Features:

Hold R trigger and turn on the psp, you can enter recovery menu.
Hold Home button and turn on the psp, you can Boot OFW.

This CFW is based Dark_AleX's 5.00M33. And usbdev.prx is his own.

try holding r trigger while turning on psp. if you can get to recovery menu that way hope is not lost. download hellcat's recovery flasher v1.60 (i have this one) and 5.00 ofw eboot(google). go to recovery and choose the "run program at /psp/game/recovery/eboot.pbp" option. when it opens choose the "install cfw(of versionselected above)" option and you will be on 5.00m33-6 and then you can upgrade back to 5.50 gen if you want.if you had the prome-4 cfw patch you will need to reinstall it.

Make sure all plugins are turned off or deleted. and the vhs.txt, etc. Some plugins cause 6.xx custom firmwares to crash.

I update my psp 1000 from 5.50 Gen-D3 or whatever the last one was (I haven't looked at it in awhile). The OFW boot feature worked, I've tried an old version of gpsp and that worked fine, and an cso(or iso, can't recall) of jak and daxter and it worked just fine. So far I have have no complaints, great release! Does the network update work for updating to future me releases or is that only for offical firmware (obviously from the CFW side of things, not doing this through OFW)

By default I believe, it works for updating OFWs, but do this as you will lose your CFW. To turn on CFW (ME) update from "Network Update", go to recovery menu and enable network update. Also for latest releases (CFWS and plugins from Neur0n) check out http://psp.usamimi.info/ :) Hope this helped!

Been using this for a few days now (my ofw PSP broke, so I replaced M33 with this on my other PSP), and I'm very impressed so far. No problems, and everything I've tried runs very well.

Alright, so my PSP has been out of commission for like 2 years, so I'm coming from 5.00 M33-6.
Is there any benefit to upgrading to this firmware? Do certain games need it or does it enable PSN or something?
Also how does this affect, say, the 1.50 kernel module I installed oh so long ago.
I'm a noob here who hasn't been following the CFW scene for a while, just asking.

Having trouble getting homebrew to load, specifically Dgen 1.7, just says game cannot be started etc..

Tried all kinds of settings in recovery mode, but nothing works.. any ideas?
