PSP FW 6.20 coming tomorrow in Japan UPDATE Now live for all regions

Sony's giving out a big firmware double-whammy to celebrate the PS3's third birthday. With Firmware 3.10 coming out for the PS3 today, Sony's following it up with the release of FW 6.20 for the PSP tomorrow, November 19th, in Japan.

The highlight of this firmware update would be the addition of the PSP comics service that they announced back at TGS, as well as the addition of another column to the XMB. This applies to all PSP models, from the 1000 to the new PSP Go.

Downloadable comics will be available in Japan on December 10th. Price would be falling around Â¥ 420 (about US$ 4.70)for a complete comic book, and between Â¥ 50-Â¥ 150 (about US$ .50-1.70) if you just want a chapter. Enterbrain, Bandai Visual, Kadokawa Shoten, and Square Enix will count themselves among content providers.

No word, however, on when the update will go stateside.

The [TV] category has been integrated into the new [Extras] category in the XMB menu. Compatible models: PSP-2000, PSP-2005, PSP-3000, PSP-N1000, PSP-N1005

the comic thing looks like a retarted thing to put but no need to go out cursing like crazy about it if it sucks then STOP EFEN WHINGING ABOUT IT. if you dont like it then dont update, and as for the GEN thing their right they dont wanna release it cause all ya do is complain about when their going to release it. when their doing it for us for free they dont have to rlease it if they dont want to ya know. so just keep quiet if your just going to be negative about everything

I don't know if you're new to the PSP, but it's not a case of "if you don't like it, don't update" because a short time will come when you are forced into updating to play new releases.

Also you earn bonus points for saying "AND GROW UP" as a pissed off child would. And spelling.

besides all they do is complain about making a new CFW its not as easy as it sounds i dont know the first thing about how to make CFW so i dont ask them why dont they release it. they need to learn to be patient

It's going to be a proprietary format developed specifically for the PSP in conjunction with Marvel and titles will be available via subscription/download on PSN.

So, all of those pirate cbr/cbz files from the net are not going to work.

It's out and I updated my GO to it.

The comic book reader is pathetic. It's out but no comics are so wtf $ony?

It doesn't read CBR files or PDF so I'm not even sure what format the files are in.

There is a new DIR on the MS called BOOK which I guess is where they go but nothing to say what format or anything.

Would've been nice of $ony to give us at least 1 free book to try it with.

Oh, BTW, you have to download the reader so its another download after the firmware is installed, just like that crap music addon I never use. I cant even remember the name if it.

I really hope they start putting in good stuff in the next firmwares. Lately it's been really crap.

DA said he will make a new firmware when there is something worthy of CFW in it. Looks like its not 620.

And if I did want to read a comic I would go buy the actual comic and read it.

A comic book reader is not needed on the PSP. It's a gimmic. There are other features that are better and needed for the PSP but they chose to put this in.

I'm actually yet to read my first digital comic, and what's the bet $ony will charge you for them.

And Sony had said from when they first announced the digital comics service that it wouldn't be available until December, they just made the reader available so you will have it when the comics come out.

Of course they are going to charge for them, you have to pay for real comics, you have to pay for digital comics if you sign up for Marvel's online service, why in the hell would you think they wouldn't charge for them here. You will have to buy the comics...

But for anyone running legit firmware, you can open .cbr/cbz files with winrar (and I assume winzip) and you will find it's just an archive full of .jpg's

So you extract the jpg's and you can read the comics using the psp photo function...

Abit of a pain in the ass...but hey, can't complain over free.
