PSP FW 5.55 spotted in Japan Expo

PSP FW 5.55 - Image 1KaiserCz, one of the editors at PSPGen, went over to the Japan Expo for a look at what the event had to offer. There, he got his hands on a PSP-1000, on which he tried out a Soul Calibur demo. But that's not really the point of this story. What's notable here is that KaiserCz found that the PSP that he used was running on firmware 5.55.

Unfortunately, due to the nature of the set-up, KaiserCz was unable to determine the features of the said firmware. He didn't leave empty-handed though - the managed to walk away with a snapshot of the PSP, showing that it really was running on 5.55. The image is quite blurry, so you may have to squint a bit.

Any further info about 5.55 is currently unavailable, and what it does is left to pure speculation. We'll keep you guys posted once we find out more.

It looks more like 4/16 or 4/18 to me

I don't see a slash between the "1".

I don't see why this wouldn't be legit. It may have a 4/1 date on it but the event ran July 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th. I can set the date on my PSP to whatever I want it to be and some people just don't care and hit X through all the setup crap.

A quick look around at www.japan-expo.com though shows that Sony wasn't on the guest list.

I can't say for certain whether it is true or false so I'll place this info in the "unsubstantiated rumor" category.

Am I the only one that notices the generic PSP nickname, meaning it's recently been reset to default settings, meaning the date and time might also not be set?

This is probably to block some more exploitable loopholes found by sony themselves. Wouldn't it be nice if we could have an insider at sony handing us the exploitable holes? lol

It could be the date's at 4th january because the Psp was just reset for the expo 3 days before and the date started on the 1st.
