PSP Firmware 2.82 out! *UPDATE* |

Like a sudden tight slap to the face of all PSP homebrewers, Sony has come out with the newest firmware update, v2.82. You won't find them on the official sites yet, because they're yet to be updated. But talking to zshadow, it seems that the updates are being rolled out right now through the Network Update feature.Here's what's new in the latest homebrew-less PSP firmware:
- Ability to play Flash content in the Internet Browser (Connection to internet required for license)
- Connection Settings added under Settings in Internet Browser
- Ability to save content added in RSS to Memory Stick
- Automatic has been added under Rate in Location Free Player
- UMD Video L/R button added under Video Settings in Settings
- Ability to disable Chapter Skip feature of the L/R Buttons (UMD Video)
- New playable extension - AAC
- Simplified Chinese, Tradition Chinese added as new languages
- RSS channel Settings added in Settings
- Demos can now be downloaded from Browser and saved on Memory Stick
- Video output can now be displayed correctly when an external tuner is selected in Location Free Player
- Ability to download Video and Image content under RSS Channel
- Ability to register devices via a wireless LAN access point under Location Free Player
- Ability to play AAC files with .3gp extension under Music
- Ability to play content saved in MUSIC, PICTURE and VIDEO folders on a Memory Stick
- Added security strengthening revisions.
Update: Everything except for the last change has been present in firmware 2.80 and 2.81. The only thing which is new in this update is the bolded part, i.e. added security revisions. Although, when you do run the update, you will see the exact list which is present here. Our apologies for the confusion. And even though it's quite obvious, let us get one thing straight shall we?
You will not be able to use any homebrew on firmware 2.82.
Please do not rest your hopes on anyone cracking it soon.
In case you're still hell bent on shutting down homebrew on your PSP, you can download them for your respective region below. Though, once your PSP stops booting homebrew, remember.....We told ya!

I really didnt see this coming. Any one allready installed it ? and checked the files etc ? According to the change log quite a few features have been added. strange that the version jumps from 2.81 to 2.82 and not 2.9 or 3. Lets hope this can lead to en exploit in downloading game demos etc.
all the features listed on this blog were added in older firmware versions. Seems like you guys spent too much time on 1.5. LOL SAD. Post when it actually comes out.

i already decrypted it and the only thing i found was the vsh/module/msvideo_plugin.prx is 128 bytes smaller.

Thats what I thought too. But GTA will be released in 5 days or so ? The game has allready been burned on umd , I assume otherwise, they will have problems shipping the games on time. IF GTA will require the new F/W, it means that Sony had this f/w for a while, and allready asked RS to recompile the game for the new f/w.

Probably not, as GTA is out on Saturday (oct 28) and would have been shipped probably at least 2 weeks ago so the highest it would need is 2.81. That's why we have Devhook! :) w00tz0rz!

decrypter works, the decrypted files are 35 mb.. much more then 2.71, i don't know why.. someone any suguestion's ?
The FW 2.82 has the same alogithm so it can be decrypted easily ... but it's not useful
Any1 with 2.81/2.82 can never have homebrew, it is nearly impossible to hack.. But 3.0 will be easy cos sony will put their heads in the toilet when they realise ps1 emulator helped the hackers.

Probably just gave it a different key than 2.81, 2.8 and 2.81 were both decrypted.
if sony released a 2.82, that means they found a hole in 2.81. that means that if we all update to 2.81, and get ppl to look for holes, it would work, cuz sony just told us.

The Decrypter mod of DarK_AleX works on this one but i think booster aint gonna make any devhooks anymore since he's suited by sony They are watching him 24/7 ,,, he and his collegue dark alex are sony's biggest enemies at this moment in the psp scene

I was going to update one of my Modchip flash chips with this but even that isn't worth while. They have provided no new features worth even mentioning and have just done a security update. I hope this is cracked some time and everyone runs homebrew because although I appreciate Sony making such a great console they still suck.

Booster isnt releasing devhook is because he found something in every fw and he is waiting till 3.0 for that reason. It will be a lot easier to crack too!
I will upgrade, because all what sony does is something that we need. And what about people with 1,50? They stuck in sotne age. Yes they try to say i can simulate till 2,71. But all you can do is kill your psp lifetime, cause if all psp will be unlegal Sony will get no moey. Bussiness rule No.1 NO MONEY NO BUSSINESS. Get that? definately not at the moment... but apparently some of the highly regarded devs are workin on somethin big(?) that s all i know. if there was 2.81 devhook it would have been reallly big news i'll be stick between homebrew& GTA VCS. i think i'll upgrade , and just get the segamegadrive wtc etc for the PC . plus they'll be faster and i'll also be able to play the world tour socar, ridgeracer 2 and ape escape car demo and mercury meltdown... plus i'll have loads free room on the MS

It doesn't come with any new features, just a security update. It must mean something.
The only thing that's different here is more security and the version number. 2.82 doesn't offer anything new to the PSP. All these features are in 2.8 anyway.

sony doesn't add mpg or avi because the prossesor is too small to decode .. that's why it's in simpler format..smaller size.... i don't mind converting to mp4 ... .. it's alright.

Look back at the update history and its not as strange, remember the 1.50>1.51>1.52>2.0 update string? most of that stuff was included in the 2.81, 2.80, 2.71, and 2.70 updates it just a cover for tightening security measures.
Sony probably found some kind of exploit or security hole on their own, or is gearing up for the next big jump (ie:1.52>2.0 / 2.82>3.0 (just a guess)) like they did right before 2.0 and is adding things to the firmware that aren't active yet but will be utilized and activated in the next firmware (kinda like with the camera/gps libs in the last update)
probably so that it cant be put into something like 2.71 SE...because the flash won't hold dual firmwares now that 2.82 is so big

What is the point of a new firmware when they have Ta-082. It doesnt allow you to downgrade anyways. I guess sony doesnt understand the problem completely.

Well since there is a security update we must have overlooked something in the 2.81 update that may lead to an exploit. Once we figure out how to dump this firmware we need to start comparing it to the 2.81 firmware so we can find something to help the 2.81ers.

Screw off Sony - I don't care about PSP games anymore - I only care about Homebrew. 2.71 SE-B is my Firmware of choice and I will never upgrade unless someone HACKS a newer Firmware. Until that day comes, I won't spend a single penny on any Sony games. If I can't get it for free, I won't get it at all.

Why bother posting the same file 8 times? I haven't checked 2.82 but for every other firmware, all regions use the same eboot. md5 check all the 2.71 eboots.

currently i have no real interest in homebrew because i dont use my psp often enough anymore to care i have to much else to do right now it streams music to my cars stereo and that is all it does
Maybe if sony increased the security, then maybe they found a vulnerability and patched it b4 it could be hacked. so, we need to look very carefully for exploit possobilities in 2.8 and 2.81. Also, does anyone have a link to a website that discusses homebrew for 2.8+. I have a 2.8 refurbished psp. i just bricked my 2.71 the day the tiff xploit came out. I have great luck, dont I? you sir.... are uneducated... avi is uncompressed... divx, mpeg, and xvid (along with others) are compressed and there is homebrew out there that can play them without a problem (even running on 222Mhz). Stay in school

If Sony would just give us the features we want they would not have such a big problem. With some of the crap they add in these firmware updates it seems like they want our PSPs to be paperweights. Hell it seems like the firmware updates are released just to keep us thinking that the piece of crap was worth $250.
well i already have 2.81. I'm upgrading right now to 2.82. ive noticed now sony doesn't require you to have an AC adapter to update anymore
not everybody has a TA-082. Therefore, updates are required to stop non ta-082 users from homebrew.

How many times can you write to a flash before it doesn't write properly anyways? They patched another hole .. it must have been a good one, because they released v2.82 not too long after 2.81 ... and the peice of crap PSP still isn't worth the money it cost to print the box, well if you upgrade, it wont. Bottom line: This update writes more crap to the flash, how much more can the poor flash be written till it stops working? UPGRADE AND FIND OUT! 89 bucks plus S&H to replace the PSP, what a load ..

is it possible to emulate to 2.82 by devhook.
I just found that out on Tuesday when I picked up my copy. Bummer. I haven't updated my virgin 1.50 PSP yet, but this game is soooo tempting. I tried using Devhook to run it anyway, but I couldn't get it to launch since devhook only goes up to 2.71. I read somewhere that the new Star Trek game is the same way. I was hoping 2.8x would be able to run on devhook by now, but no such luck. Anyone know if it's close to being done? I've been getting a little tired of my old emulators and I was probably gonna update for the official PSOne emulator if/when it gets released anyway. I figure I'll use my PC for NES/SNES/GBA/Neo Geo/etc. emulators in the future. It's better at them anyway and it'll free up my memory stick for some videos and/or music. I used to play ISO's, but I've been buying quite a few games lately ($400 at Best Buy in the last month alone), so I don't need them anymore.

You all are fools to think Sony has no real agenda in releasing this firmware to PSPs. They get the ability to see if hackers and coders can break the 2.82 system. If they do, then sony will go back to thr drawing board and make 2.83 and so on and so on. So far it seems that Sony is winning, if they cant hack this new firmware then you can totally forget about getting 3.0 to work with dev hook. Some of you have totally simplistic thinking that you cant see that every single firmware that gets cracked is a benefit to Sony to fix. Each new firmware will get better and better and eventually it will come down to a point that it will no longer be able to be emulated and they can finally succeed in stopping homebrew and dev hook for all new firmwares.
The locoroco demo is already out and hexed, use the files from this link http://www.lesemeu.com/PSP/fichiers/locohallo271.zip Note that the game folder has loco roco halloween at the end of its name, you have to delete that for this to work. It requires 2.71
Yes this has secret 3.0 stuff hidden in it, I know all about it because my dad works for sony. This firmware can play all homebrew and psx emulator and you can use your ir port as a camera, and it lets you use your psp as a UMD burner. Sony just forgot to put all those things in the changelog. Seriously people, get real.
Some people are claiming that the decrypter still works, I am not entirely sure what this patch fixed.

Uhh I updated my PSP to 2.82 and guess what? I tried nesterJ Emulator and It works! I think sony patched up a new hole but they forgot to patch the hole for the emulator! so if you're 2.80, upgrade to 2.82 and you can use emulators. not homebrew though.
Cant they just release 3.0!? Its rather annoying. I think 3.0 is going to be the big firmware release which will convince poeple to switch from older versions eg 1.5, to 3.0 due to its cool sounding lineup of features. Downloadable ps1 games is awesome and could actualy increase sales of the PSP greatly. Release it sony!

man...for your information this firmware was already fully decrypted within minutes of release because the algorythms didn't change from 2.81. so it is capable of being fully emulated at some point in time. a security loophole where homebrew can be loaded in 2.82? maybe not but who the hell cares about that when u can emulate it with 1.8 and devhook or hopefully 2.71 se-x. jackass.

2.82 Decrypts just fine using the existing 2.8x PSAR Dumper Mod.
How do you devhook 2.8x because some dudes they say that they emulated 2.8x but i just don't get higer than 2.71 i can decrypted v2.8X but not get it work with devhook
Hi, BOOSTER's Devhook for 2.81 is out and these guys were just waiting for the 3.0 update and they would release it then cause if they would have released it now (2.81 compatible devhook), Sony would have pluged the holes. Its seems one of the hackers members has leaked this to Sony and they have plugged it in 2.82. Thats all the 2.82 update does is plugs the 0.50 Devhook !
Ace Combat X works great with Devhook 0.46, who says it doesnt??

im on 2.7 and have only recently started to question why we have to update all the time? Sony want us all todo as they say with OUR consoles? why shud i upgrade when no good games come out and then when 1 good game comes out they want me to update my psp to play it, and then when i finish that game i cant have any more fun on my console because my homebrew is blocked? Save for 2 PSPs. All of whom are wanting a ps3 (and a PSP to be compatible), know this: It's likely that there will be yet another "update". Joy. I bought 2 PSPs for this reason. One is for homebrew and one is for everything else. This way everyone is happy; Me (thank you to every person that has a hand in homebrew and hacking) and Sony (2 PSPs?! Spend More Money!) I admit.. I'm impatient.. But there are so many mysterious games to try, so I couldn't wait.
