Again another update with no features to actualy make me want to update. When GPS is made available and the PS1 emulator I prob will, but if sony really want to try and get us lot to update they need to add something better. Though I am quite sure they have given up hope of getting people who already know about homebrew to update. I'm sure these updates are for the majority of PSP owners who dont really know about homebrew and will just upgrade giving them no chance of getting into homebrew. Kind of trying to stop more poeple going to homebrew than converting homebrew psp owners back to sony.

Guys, It doesn't do any good to keep saying "Oh Booster emulate this soon for me" or "Hurry up I want to use 2.80". It'll come when it does, and when he wants to, not when you all ask him to. If Sony have learnt they're lesson, and it's a big IF, it may take longer than first thought. A few nice additions in 2.80, pics in RSS, and saving to most folders is good. But apart from that, nothing major it still seems. It's as if they've just made 3.00, and are slowly releasing bits in between just to kep us "happy". Oh well, more firmware to toy around with eh! :) huds601

@ #5 and #12 SONY hasnt in the past even raced homebrew hackers at all. they dont try to entice us with new features AT ALL!!!! if you read the press release last march they already had all the firmware updates planned. INCLUDING this one! find the article on IGN, im too lazy to find it for you (as you wont even listen to me) the flash player was already scheduled to come out in spring. it had nothing to do with hackers. and this RSS update was alrady schduled to come in summer 2006. the ps1 emu and the GPS and camera are coming in october its rumored. on IGN.com they quote Sony saying its coming in fall/winter. the only exception to this is the X.X1 updates. like 1.51 and 2.01 and 2.71 thos are security fixes, probably some oversight sony wanted to clean up so that legit PSP owners couldnt brick thier PSP with malicious homebrew.

Both the US and UK EBOOTS are identical (ie. the SAME file), so it doesn't matter which you download as the firmware is not regeion specific.

I have updated my psp 2.71 > 2.80, nothing is really changed appart form video rss and a slighty faster web browser.....oh and the Tama Run demo is like the mercury game but still not bad for a demo. I thought we where going to get a different demo though soccer related. Any way this update is worth updating if you have 2.70/2.71. I now have a 2.80 psp and a 1.5 psp!

Using the demo

Kiah's translation/instructions on how do install the demo game: 1. Connect your psp to your computer using your USB cable. 2. Please note that to use this demo, you need version 2.80 firmware (It can be checked in the system settings.) 3. Download the eboot file from http://www.jp.playstation.com/R/dl0727_tamarun 4. Place the eboot file in PSP > GAME > UCJS10043 on your memory stick. (You will need to create the UCJS10043 folder) [img]http://www.jp.playstation.com/scej/title/tama-run/dl/img_ud/folder.jpg[/img] 5. Now leave usb mode, and go to game, memory stick, and it should be there! Enjoy!

The US, UK and the JAP EBOOTS are ALL the same file. No difference, but dunno if that matters to anyone... :-)

Any word on PS1 emulator?

Has anyone heard anymore info on PS1 emulator? Does anyone know when it comes out if you are able to rip and play PS1 games that you currently own on the PSP or somehow download them for free? I can't wait for this emulator and I hope I don't have to pay again just to play old games that I already own.

I think the only reason we were able to downgrade 2.5/6 psp was because they could run the E-loader. Now 2.70/1 doesn't have any homebrew support whatsoever, they're gonna have to find a completely different exploit (Which could take months and months), then find a way to run a downgrader on it. I'm having serious doubts they can do that at any point in the near future, looks like I'm going to have to get my @ss a modchip. Just finding a place in the UK to fit it for me (Since I'm not any good at soldering/electronics), is going to be a complete pain in the @ss. I have the cash, I'd get one fitted tomorrow but I can't... I'm still going to stay at 2.70 however, in the hope a miracle happens. I never thought they'd create a 2.5/6 downgrader but they did. And props to them for that!

Does any one know how to get the Japanese Tama Demo to work on 2.70 without having to update. i have been trying to use hex editor, but i can only get the Loco Roco and Kazuo demos working. thanx

Never Cared To Downgrade

I always upgrade and have a blast with the new features. I didnt buy a PSP to play NES games, or pirate games for that matter. Not my style (plus, like I said, I LOVE the new features when they get dished out for FREE)

Yeah, Kazuo is a Sudoku style game demo. It cames with Firmware 2.71 (i think). I am hoping to get the new demos working on my 2.70 also. I can only get hold of the Tama Run game at the moment. I hope more demos become available soon.

Tama Run param.sfo wont work. You have to upgrade to 2.80, new security key added. i dunno if it can be decrypted either... 2.7 couldnt be decrypted until we had 2.6 decrypted. is 2.8 the same? Can anyone confirm the modchip working with 2.80? someone with a modchip might be able get a dump

Homebrews??? we had the eloader for a while.. thats why i've been on 2.50 for months hoping for a downgrader... from Oct to July1st.. and when the BETA version of the downgader came out..(V05) i jumped on it taking the risk... so yeahhh dont upgrade man.. stay on 2.70 you might be lucky someday... good luck to you.. hope you learned something from updating 2.60 --> 2.70 1.50 for ever!

cuz the exploit that allowed kernal access for 2.5/2.6 was discovered after 2.71, sony would probably have only just patched it with this update. so for those with 2.7/2.71 if someone can find a way to run homebrew then u'll probably get kernal straight away = possible downgrader if u upgrade then even if they do find an exploit its doubtful you'll get kernal access straight away since sony would have clearly patched it up.. so stay with what u have imo

Anyone who updates usually ends up whinging that they want a downgrader. Look at the 2.6 epidemic. Alot of users updated, intentionally and unintentionally, and a few days later there were thousands of posts wanting a downgrader, *****ing about how 1.5 users get everything. (im not including who bought 2.6 PSP's however). Then 2.7 came out - less people updated, but more or less the same thing happened. If you hate homebrew, or have two PSP's go ahead, update, but dont go whinging that you NEED a downgrader because its your own bloody fault you updated.

Why they are releasing 2.7,2.71 and 2.8 is cus they do sequrity fixes all the time, and when we prove we can break it, they fix it, this is so we won't be able to use 3.0 if we don't upgrade. imagine if they would release 3.0 with 2.6 or 2.7 sequrity, they would be *****ed, so PLS pretend that we cant break this, and they think that 2.8 is "safe" and then those sequrity fixes will apply to 3.0

RSS Video?!? yeah Sony GREAT.... You can´t get streaming to work on your great psp... Sony s Great feature is only a possibility to save videos to the memstick. NO STREAMING at all... Do not underestimate the benefits of the Modchip!!

Since the Psp now has a Modchip, don't forget that it will allow people to test exploits and techniques without fear of permenent bricking. The Modchip is supposedly able to recover a bricked Psp so it is quite possible that it will allow a quicker method of accessing the new firmware. Team Epsilon also claim that there methods ''future proof'' the custom firmware so now we will really see. Sony aren't stupid enough to release firmware 2.80 with the same weaknesses as 2.71 though so expect something different. To soopergooman, this is exactly why I never contact Pspupdates regarding news anymore because they only give credit to who they feel like giving it to. Either way this is being realised and is probably why some other sites are way ahead with breaking news. I sometimes see news released 2-3 days before pspupdates on other sites and that is probably because they actually appreciate and credit their users as opposed to annoying them by not giving credit.

If you want homebrew...

...buy a GP2X. Gamepark actually endorses homebrew, and no matter how much you update the firmware, you'll still be able to play homebrew.

He shouldent let the "cat out of the bag" pertaining to how their fws could be cracked. They'll just make it that much harder later on. The demos aren't that great anyway. :P Just my thoughts ...

1. go buy a used version of GTA: LCS not a new or it wont work!!! 2. download the 2.5/2.6 downgrader easy installer(scince your new to homebrew and it comes w/eloader) 3. after it is downloaded put GTA into your PSP and plug in the usb cable to your computer and go to usb mode 4. once in usb mode run the easy downgrader and follow the instructions. 5. once its done run GTA and load the eloader game save and congradulations you 1.50!!!

This is just really retarded. All of you are like "F U SONY" and "ANOTHER PATHETIC UPDATE". You all use homebrew to play old versions of games and useless applications that actually have a risk of bricking your PSP (regardless of whether you think it can't or not). And you don't get the full effects of the new updates because you have to keep 1.5 and emulate firmwares to void your warranty. Now I liked the update. I am a frequent updater and I'm damn proud of it so excuse me if I don't want to risk bricking my PSP and voiding my warranty for f***ing Mario or Pong. I can play Pong on Flash and Mario on the Wii when it comes out. And I respect the fact that there's those of you that like to update (like me) and those who are hombrew fanatics, and that is okay. But what really makes me angry is having to go through 100 or more posts with homebrew fanatics complaining about how the new update sucked. So for those of you who do that, take your Devhook emulated firmware on your fancy 1.5 PSPs and go play some f***ing Mario. Don't create all these posts saying that updaters are stupid and that the update was stupid as some people just would like to chat about the update. Not about how it sucked or it will "be emulated on Devhook in the next 2 weeks". I am really sick and tired of it and I know alot of other people are too. And finally, I want to know how homebrew is so great. I mean, think about it. Since 1.50 we have gotten a lot of security updates, a web browser, support for different types of photos and music, the ability to set our own backgrounds, support for other MP4 formats, updated UMD Movie menus, SonicStage compatibility, Location Free Player compatibility, copyrighted video playback, option to save input history in web browser, updated network settings, updated clock features, RSS channel (audio, video and photo), Macromedia Flash Player 6, the ability to save RSS content, the ability to download game demos from your PSP, the ability to have more than 2 GB of space for your PSP and not to mention the Loco Roco (US & Japanese versions), Kazuo, Tama-Run, World Tour Soccer 2 demos. And soon there will be a PS1 emulator and VOIP support as well as GPS and an EyeToy camera. Now you may be able to emulate with Devhook but wouldn't you rather just update and not have to access games and features through a program, or in 2.01-2.6, GTA: LCS? Out of all of that, I know that homebrewers can not possibly create that stuff from scratch. When they can create a better PS1 emulator, support for GPS, VOIP and EyeToy and all four of those demos, then I'll give. But until they do, I am going to keep updating, even if the firmware is cracked (which it most likely won't be because Sony is smarter than you think). Otherwise all the hardcore homebrewers wouldn't be going "When the PS1 emulator comes out, then I'll update." Because Sony knows that sooner or later they'll make you update with an eye-catching feature. And you know that you feel left out because your homebrew can't emulate the features fast enough, or even at all. So just admit that it is just to show off your hacking skills and say you are better than Sony. Ten to one, I bet you will update for the PS1 emulator or shortly after. If I'm wrong, I'll buy you all a pizza.

227: I know this may be hard for you n00bish little brain, but DevHook actually emulates the firmware better than the PSP itself, just by itself in it's nature being able to overclock to 333mHz. Your just complaining because you can't get any of the homebrew yourself, because you were stupid and went and upgraded your PSP all the time. They have had homebrew that does most of the stuff the updates since 2.5 could do. They have STREAMING video, images, and music. They even had a web browser within 3 months of the PSP's initial release, they didn't have to wait for 2.0 when the official web browser came out, which sucked pretty bad anyways. 228: Just to let you know, the downgrading has a very slim chance of bricking your PSP. That slim chance happens when you know nothing about what your doing. I just bought my PSP a week ago. FW2.5, upped to 2.6, since it said I shouldn't use a factory FW and the downed to 1.5. I thought i had a Ta-082 an upgraded to 2.8. I figured i could never get a 1.5 an upgraded. When i checked the undiluted platinum compatability check i thought the number was on the left and upgraded. Now i realize im wrong and want to shoot myself. The only homebrew I want is too play iso because HELL im NOT gonna pay $50 dollars for a stupid psp game when I can save it for a 360 game. psp games r too expensive and playing games on the psp is so uncomfortable anyway. I just use it for videos and when im bored ill play flash games. The only game I really liked for psp was Dragonball z which is Y i want 1.50. Homebrew or not im not buying psp games. So idk if i should upgrade or not, i need some convincing. It would be convienient to have a video folder and i never used RSS.

.......We are warning yo ppl now itself....cuz our INDIA team are still workin on 2.70-1 downgrader. We have allready managed to set the PSP BIOS to $_Tim_Emp=1; which means it will have a boot feature. Now we'av created a 1.7 KB ASCII file to test. Its just working !! lol. Which means instead of loading FIRMWARE , OUR 2.71 IS LOADING THE ASCII FILE.(TXT). The contents under it are nor proper-formatted. So we'r still working on that....we'll place a LNX-EXECUTER. This way , we'll run 1.1 replacing 2.71 on 2.71-70. This can also be done on other psp's. So we'r doing our best....dont update....SONY MAY ADD SECURITY FEATURES LIKE IF IT FINDS SOME UNKNOWN FILES IN MEMORY ROOT , IT MAY DELETE. So we'v not tested 2.80 , dun update till WE SUGGEST YOU. gREETS , CodeRocKeR.

Here is my idea: For 2.70 and 2.71 Users: Download the 2.80 Update on ya PC. Open the EBOOT with a Text Editor Program (NOT MICROSOFT WORD). Then change the text "Firmware-Update 2.80" to "Firmware-Update 1.50". Put the EBOOT to this Memory Stick Folder: ms0:/GAME/UPDATE and install the "Update"! Now you have FW 1.5!!!

to all sony psp haters: if you hate sony so much then why did you freakin buy their psps anyway? homebrews are good but game creators need money to create more good games. if you just rely on downloads then how will game developers come up with good games? maybe, in the future we will end up with bad games when game developers get tired of making games that don't benefit their pockets. Sony is a good company and just doing their job. Firmware updates are good. Why does firmwares have updates? Because art is never finished and everyday there are more and more technology that is being discovered. If you don't want to upgrade then don't. No one is really forcing you. If you want to upgrade then that's good because you made the right and legal decision.

I just updated to 2.8 which was a VERY DUMB THING TO DO. My friend went to Viet and bought some cracked UMDs on CDs and i cant run them because of 2.8!!!! 1. Can someone PLEASE find a downgrader for 2.8 and 2. Dont update, its not worth it =.=
