PSP Advisory: Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder 2 NOT Compatible With Firmware 2.7 |

Ó
Neuros Technology advised PSP owners not to upgrade to Sony’s recently-released firmware 2.7 update if they are using Neuros' MPEG-4 Recorder 2. The MPEG-4 Recorder 2 records analog video straight to the Memory Stick Pro Duo cards used by the PSP console.“We don’t think Sony did this on purpose, but, for now, PSPs with the upgraded firmware won’t play files recorded with the Recorder 2,” said the company. “A second result of this issue is that any files you may have recorded previously with the Recorder 2 would need to be converted to play on PSPs having the upgraded Version 2.7 firmware." Neuros is currently working on a firmware upgrade for the MPEG-4 Recorder 2 to fix the problem. The fix will be available to users for free.

this is a big deal if you shelled out the money, and now the hardware is useless...

For me this whole thing is an interesting development. On the one hand this is perhaps indicative of a vulnerability in the .m4v headers in previous firmwares, although personally I hate dynamic media exploits so I doubt that I'll be looking into it. Interesting though.
On the other hand, it must be upsetting for Sony to have broken support for legitimate hardware. They need their firmware updates to be rock-solid and risk-free if they're going to entice people to continue to unquestioningly upgrade. If legitimate things that previously worked are suddenly broken, then that reduces consumer confidence in the upgrades. (Of course, we don't really know Sony's attitude to the Neuros recorder, which could well be unlicensed 3rd party hardware).

2 people were banned for attempting to impersonate QJ staff (i.e. me), it had nothing to do with taking personal offence. I receive countless trolls and flames, I just shrug them off.
What I do object to is people going off on a mindless rant due to their own ignorance. You admitted in your first post that you had no idea what Neuros was, but decided to claim that it was crap anyway. Someone put you straight, and then you went off on one. And you continue to rant, in big-boy CAPITAL LETTERS.
Meanwhile, the rest of us are trying to have a mature discussion. This is your last warning, calm down or you'll be on an enforced break. If you'd like to discuss things further, I would suggest contacting me via PM rather than airing more rage in public.

This is the tech spec on one of the file types straight from the Neuros site:
30fps@368x208 resolution (16:9, WQVGA setting)wide screen format for PSP
Seems to me there were warnings in the past for a possible shift in accessibility to these files. Has anyone seen if their 368x208 mp4s still work after the upgrade? It's possible they are just disallowing the previous hack resolution.

But I believe I know a way around it (if you have the following programs, etc)
The neuros recorder (duh, haha)
A registered version of Quicktime
And A converter that works with .mov files (I know the official media manager does)
If you bring the recorded file to your compy you can edit out the commercials with quicktime and then save as a .mov. You can then convert the .mov with the Media manager and I believe it would work.
Granted I haven't tried this with a 2.7 as I only have a 2.5 or 2.6 but I believe it should work.
