PSP 3.00 Firmware Update Released with Online Manual

For today! We just got word from badrix that the Playstation Portable 3.00 Firmware Manual has been posted up on Sony's site. The manual details some of the mundane details for your typical firmware update, however there are a few hot topics in there which demand attention. I'll tell you right off that there was no information in their updated manual regarding the PSP supporting homebrew with firmware 3.00, and this was a rather large disappointment. On the other hand, the few additions that were made were helpful, one might even say overdue, but these added pleasures were still bitter sweet.

Remote Play - Remote play is a new feature in Firmware 3.00 that allows you to remotely control your PlayStation 3 from your PSP. This also includes the display of PS3 content on the PSP. "You can display a PLAYSTATIONÂ®3 system screen on a PSPÂ™ system and play content that is on the PS3Â™ system. To use this feature, you must adjust the necessary settings on the PSPÂ™ system and the PS3Â™ system." Using this new mode of playback, one can control the Photo, Music, Video, and Internet Browser features of the PlayStation 3 from a remote location via their Playstation Portable.

Video Compatibility - In this updated version of the Playstation Portable firmware, you are also able to play a few new video formats. The Motion JPEG format (M-JPEG), is an "informal name for multimedia formats where each video frame or interlaced field of a digital video sequence is separately compressed as a JPEG image" (Wikipedia). The PlayStation Portable plays both the Linear PCM and the μ-Law versions of the Motion JPEG video format. In addition, you will now be able to access the Camera (functionality) from the photo option menus, for quicker easier access when taking photos or video. Another nifty function is the ability to finally turn off Auto Play for inserted UMD Discs via UMD Auto Boot. (Thanks zerojay)

PlayStation Games - Here's the big tip you've been waiting for. Finally, Sony is going to drop their highly anticipated PlayStation One emulator onto the PSP. From the manual however, there seems to be a unavoidable catch. If you don't have a PS3, your not going to be enjoying PlayStation One games emulating on Sony's PlayStation One emulator for PSP anytime soon. From the manual it states that you must connect to the Playstation Online store with your PSP connected to the PlayStation 3 in order to download and play the games. In addition, they mention that you can in fact share the games, but you must activate the other system in the Friends menu as a PS3 Network Account.

Now to top it all off right before posting this, I came across a tip submitted by Jordan. Which led me to a post made by 0okm and from the looks of things, it would appear the PlayStation Portable 3.00 Firmware will be out soon - as soon as Today! just a few days, on November 22 to be exact, according to Sony Asia's Managing Director Tetsuhiko Yasuda. Remember, Sony didn't mention anything about homebrew this time around either, so make sure you are aware that the current methods for playing unofficial games will probably not work. No matter the consequences it would appear that if your looking to get into some PlayStation One gaming on the PSP, for now, you know what you gotta do...

Update: Just got wind that PSP 3.00 Firmware is out now! We have obtained the file and are uploading it as you read. If you were thinking about updating, check your network settings, reports have come in it is up and ready via network update as well. With the Japanese 3.00 firmware update finally out on the net, we can only assume it will appear in stores on the shelf very soon as well.

if this is the first you've read about the PSone "emulator" (its not really an emulator, just gives the PSP the ability to play the new eboots that are the games) then you need to do some research (http://www.qj.net/You-won-t-need-a-PS3-to-grab-PS1-games/pg/49/aid/70093) and if it isn't....you need to do some research anyway, cause you have short-term memory. The only way to obtain the PSone games RIGHT NOW might be with the PS3, or who knows the website the article (above) talks about could open the 22nd. Here's my prediction.

Sony will take so long to implement downloading games onto your PSP without the use of a PS3, that someone else will figure out how to distribute the games, and since the only way most people will then have of obtaining the games will be through piracy, Sony will in essence have promoted piracy. Nor my friends or me are stupid enough to buy a 700$ console + 5$ each time we want to play again games we own for years and have already paid 40$ each. Even if PS3 is not necessary, I don't agree. What about sending back original PS1 games to Sony and have them for 'free' ? Of course not, heh. That's the deal with videogames since the first Playstation: play with the same games again and again with only graphics updated. Only tards and kids are seem not to be aware of that, but it also seem there are many.

hmm- time for devhook to come out with a new release by booster (its been a while) maybe underground this time since he was a bit paranoid from all that rap from sony.. Sony said in the beginning, they plan to only release PSX games through the PS3. Then after, you will be able to connect to the Sonystore through the PSP.

They never lied, they stated their road map for the PSX emulation. First through the PS3 Playstation Store, then after, they will make the PlaystationStor e for the PSP.

Some of you are idiots in thinking they would do it for PSP without testing it to make sure you cant crack it.

when you update you psp, unless its a security patch, it will completely wipe the nand flash adn reinstalll all the files nessesary to run your psp. so your custom gameboot will be removed

alright you stupid noobs,this is what I saw my friend do on his psp and ps3.He bought a game on the ps3.He used remote play function on the psp.A game popped up on the game folder,after a 20 second delay.Then he enabled his usb.Copied the folder to my psp.Now this is for all the other noobs.I set my 2.71 SEB'' to this

The eboot will be encoded to your PSP. You will have to connect your PSP to the PS3 via USB in order to download games onto the memory stick.

So the fact being, they are using a full proof medium to ensure they can keep the purchase of the PSX game off the internet, because even if someone does upload the eboot, you wont be able to run it on other PSP3.0 because each eboot is encoded to the PSP it was uploaded to.

So it may be possible to load PSX games on multiple PSPs but it has to be from the same PS3. You want be able to upload it online to play them.

actually that's not the definition of 'double jeapordy' and technically speaking you don't already own THOSE games, you own PS1 games in PS1 media format, these are PS1 games REformatted for the PSP, so technically not the same game. Now since the PS1 games for PSP have to be slightly redesigned and reprogrammed (you know, the whole 'lack of a second analog and lack of a second set of shoulder buttons' thing) they are not the same game, kinda like in that I own the US Final Fantasys when they were on Nintendo (pre ps1), but when the compilation came out reformatted for PS I didn't just get a copy cause I already owned them on another platform, I had to buy it if I wanted it... Do you seriously think Sony would spend the time and money to reprogram games that are ten years old and then NOT charge you for them? and how would you propose that your copies of PS1 games be converted so that you could play them on your PSP? get real people, if you're willing to pay for it then go ahead, if you're not willing to pay five bucks for a ten year old game then don't and quit complaining.

they didn't 'break their promise' they never promised anything.

1. Just because it was said at E3 doesn't mean it's a promise and will actually happen. It's not like Kutaragi called a press conference and said "I PROMISE that we will [insert anything]." E3 is about HYPE, to get you interested in a product...

If you ever read the release that said that PS1 games would download straight to PSP (as opposed to just reading the little QJ overview) you would know what was actually said, which was that it would happen, but at first you would need a PS3, and straight to PSP downloads would come later, once Sony was able to implement the system into the PSP online network.

2.Put your PSP in the closet somewhere.

3.Whip out your old PS1

4.Insert old PS1 Game.

wasnt the GPS USB dongle realeased around late october? Then there might be another update along they way for it. But it will have to be in 07. There wont be anymore updates with features this year

I had heard sooo much about how great FW 3.00 was going to be before it came out. Now that I read about all it can really do. I am very disappointed. Why get a PS3 to play games on PSP? Now that 2.80 has homebrew and emulators...I am satisfied and don't care about the ps1 emu anymore. Screw PS3 because......Wii will Wii will ROCK YOU!!! I am a big PSP fan but I never got into PS1 or PS2 and Xbox is okay. Console systems for me are Nintendo all the way!!!

and i've already figured out that mine can't be downgraded. so i loaded FW 3.01. the only noticeable additions are visualizations for the music player, a certificate utility, and camera feature (sony may release some kind of add-on digicam accessory). for those who just bought/got a psp, upgrade to the latest FW and wait for the hacks to come out.

i've actually had a hard time finding decent games for it. thinking about selling it and buying a PS2. i know i'm behind on the times - never been a big console gamer until Black was released. pc games are just so easy to get for free.
