Patched TA-082 PSPs don't support FW 3.30?

TA-082: curses again! - Image 1Okay, at of right now, what follows is speculation and low-level analysis based on discussions in the linked QJ Firmware forum thread. Keep that in mind as you read this - it will save a lot of grief later.

Some people are noticing that TA-082 PSPs patched to downgrade and run custom firmware can't successfully upgrade to FW 3.30. The results, however, seem to be mixed. For those TA-082s that can't upgrade, they get an error message. A few others, however, are able to upgrade to 3.30, no prob. People are worried about potential brickage...

(NOTA BENE: THERE ARE NO REPORTS OF BRICKED PSPS FROM STUBBORNLY TRYING TO UPGRADE AS OF NOW. THIS IS SIMPLY AN EXPRESSED WORRY OF A FEW FORUM MEMBERS. AGAIN: NO BRICKS REPORTED, JUST WORRIES. Please don't make us repeat this...)

Right now, we're betting that all our favorite people are looking into 3.30 right now, so the best advice for homebrew enthusiasts still remains: just wait and see if a reliable downgrader, or working Devhook or custom firmware comes out (which you guys probably are waiting for, anyway). Still, for discussion's sake, here are the possible permutations of attempted upgrades discussed in the forums (we don't suggest you try these without good advice, though):
  • Upgrading straight from downgraded-to-FW 1.5 doesn't seem to work at all
  • Upgrading to 3.xx (e.g., 3.00) then to 3.30 bears mixed results - for one guy, it worked, although the result is a MAC Address of all zeros (he LOL).
  • Another report says that 3.11 can't go directly to 3.30 either. One attempt involved a 3.11 TA-082 patched to 1.5 for custom firmware, Recovered to official 1.5 then upped to 2.71 then 3.11, but still errors when trying to up to 3.11.
  • Another report notes that his TA-082 only has five keys corrupted, downgraded to 3.03 using Noobz's downgrader. Opinion by another forum member is that it might successfully upgrade.
  • It has to be noted that FW 3.30 works for North American PSP (PSP-1001) ONLY, so this might be a factor as well.
    • Thank goodness I didn't sacrifice my PSP to find the 3.30 changelog then. It's Japanese.

Why would...

ANYONE want to upgrade their beloved homebrew enabled TA-82 to 3.30? I bet for the few that actually do..they'll be crying for a 3.30 downgrader to come out... Don't upgrade if you enjoy homebrew ;)

hey

does anyone know of a psp game that is full of naked ladies?
by - 2007-03-30 01:36:42
for retards

Anyone stupid enough to update their psp from custom firmware or 1.5 deserves a ruined psp. But did anyone try to reset default settings. I think that might fix some problems.
by akadewboy - 2007-03-30 01:40:10
To those who have failed at upgrading with patched TAs

Have you tried running that IDStorage repair program?
by - 2007-03-30 02:13:27
Fix

Yep, it's a simple nitch where the updater works with the iDstorage, and on a corrupted TA-082 (ie, a downgraded one), the update fails as the updater gets confused and returns error 'DRNffffffcd'. This can be easily fixed by downgrading to 1.50, running a program like this: http://dl.qj.net/General-IdStorage-Repair-and-1.50-ipl-Enabler-PSP/pg/12/fid/13178/catid/114 and running the update.
by - 2007-03-30 03:09:32
FYI

I don't know why the US Playstation site says not to run the update on anything other than North American (1001) PSP, because the download from the US, Japan, Hong Kong, and UK sites all seem to be the exact same file. In fact I bet they are all the same but those are the only ones that I bothered checking the md5 and sha1 values on.
by RaiderX - 2007-03-30 04:03:58
ok...

Then don't upgrade to sony firmware and wait for a cracked one. Why would you want to update to 3.30 anyway? There aren't even any good features, especially none good enough to upgrade from 3.10OE.
by - 2007-03-30 04:08:07
.

Can't get it to work

I tried this method and it won't run the idStorage fix program. I get "Game could not start".
by - 2007-03-30 12:07:16
!

Only idiots upgrade to 3.30.
by - 2007-03-30 12:19:00
No?

No? Sony screwed us over with not being able to update with patched TA-82's, So basically they made a smart move by screwing the home brewers on TA-82's so if they want to update they cant now...
by PSPZorZ - 2007-03-30 12:33:01
f

They are exactly the same, but Sony wants to be able to say you used the wrong update if you brick your PSP, so their not responsible and you are, but the truth is they are all the same and even if you did use the wrong one and bricked it, thre would be no way they could find out so you could just deny it and make them replace your PSP.
by PSPZorZ - 2007-03-30 12:35:04
g

You're dumb... if the 3.30 FW doesn't work with TA-082 corrupt keys, then the 3.30 kernel of a CFW probably won't work... I think that's what this is about...
by - 2007-03-30 13:02:59
...

No Bobert is right... Sony is preventing people from adding thier security features... lol. Not Like I would...
by - 2007-03-30 13:52:37

:(

We'll never be able to update :-(?
by - 2007-03-30 14:16:54
When will this firmware be decrypted?

This firmware allows fatser disk loading! Finally, no more long waits for my Powerstone Collection to load!
by - 2007-03-30 14:32:09
*Title*

I'm fairly certain the faster disk loading works by upping the cpu speed; something we can already do. I'm even willing to bet that they only overclock it to 266, where as we can go up to 333. Then again, this is all speculation.
by - 2007-03-30 15:48:28
linerider

someone needs to get linerider on psp. or sony needs to upgrade the flash.
by - 2007-03-30 16:03:05
WTF

WTF, OMG, .NET, .ORG, Why are these morons trying to upgrade from custom firmwares or the holf of al hollys FW 1.5?
by - 2007-03-30 16:04:35
Not for UMD's

The disc speed option is only for PS1 games, not for UMD's.
by - 2007-03-30 17:35:30
omg

i won't update until there is a cracked one ....like before...and i enjoy changing icon with my 3.03 OE- C but how can i check the psp's board number ?? like TA-082 ( sorry, noob's question )
by - 2007-03-30 17:57:14
checking MOBO numbers

check noobz.eu for info
by - 2007-03-30 18:41:52
SOME OF THIS IS A LIE!

PSPs OTHER THAN PSP 1001 CAN RUN 3.30 TOO. I HAVEN'T INSTALLED IT BUT IF YOU GO TO THE JAPANESE PLAYSTATION SITE IT SAYS 3.30 UPDATE AND THAT THE UPDATE IS FOR PSP 1000 (JAPANESE PSP(BLACK,WHITE,PINK,BLUE,SILVER,GOLD psps). I CHECKED NETWORK UPDATE ON MY 3.03 OE-C PSP AND IT GAVE ME THE 3.30 EBOOT. I DID NOT UPDATE BUT I'M GUESSING YOU COULD RUN IT ON PSP 1000
by - 2007-03-30 20:02:35
ans my question.heh

well guys im so noob at psp's..what is this TA-082 patch for psp???..what's this for??
by - 2007-03-30 20:14:04
happy with 3.03 oe-c

i wouldn't even consider 3.30 an "upgrade"... and until there's a custom firmware, i'm sticking where i am at 3.03 oe-c... but just for fun, i would like to see the inside of that firmware...
by - 2007-03-30 22:21:39
dasf

The only good upgrade that Sony came out with that made everyone kinda want to upgrade was that 3.00?(PS3 wireless support/PSX iso), camera. but still not alot of ppl had a PS3 and didnt sell on ebay. Hopefully this could be cracked though...and maybe make it like the defult PSP...for ppl who dont want Custom firmware anymore...?
by - 2007-03-31 01:59:51
...

If you downgraded a TA-082 it had to have certain files patched in order to let the downgrader work
by - 2007-03-31 03:56:25
No one would...

I wouldn't, without homebrew I would sell my PSP... Learn to completely hack your PSP at http://avenger.hacker.googlepages.com/
