Nintendo DS Lites and Sony PSP 1.5s In Stock at Import Sites

If you've been paying attention to the sales in Japan lately, you'll notice that the Nintendo DS Lite is selling about the same as every other console combined. Well, the truth is that those numbers are nowhere near what they could be. The DS Lite is actually suffering from shortages, much like the Xbox 360 in the west, and not all customers are getting what they want. As a result, import sites like Play-Asia and Lik-Sang jacked up the price and closed off orders until new shipments arrived.

Good news! Play-Asia says they have new shipments of the Enamel Navy and Ice Blue DS Lites (the Crystal White ones, though, are still out of stock). The bad news is that they're still at $199.90 US. However, if you want your DS Lite now, you likely don't care.

While the average PSP owner might not even know what the word firmware means, the average QJ.net reader knows it's one of the most important pieces of information to look at when buying a PSP. Version 1.5 is the most sought after and RenChi has some for sale. If you need a system with the widest variety of homebrew available, you might want to look into this. Be warned, though, that the price is a bit steep.

Nintendo DS Lite
Sony PSP 1.5

Both the DS and PSP are region-free. This means they can play games from any region. However, the PSP can only play UMD movies from Region 1 (N. America).

I know where there are lots of 1.5 psp's. Here in my city it seems. As iI goto other stores and check out their supply, well all of them have had the letter "K" on the side(next to the upc). The Letter "K" (for those that don't know) signifies a 1.5 Virgin PSP. Just like the one I got yesterday! ;^) and cheaper than almost four Franklins.....

A bit of a rip, but it's for those who want the safe way out. Some people just don't trust EBay. Didja see the DS Lites on that website? $260. And something tells me they're selling just fine due to the unbelievably high demand.

The price may be inflated if you live in the good old usa but with the good exchange rate they are only £18 more than retail :)

Living in Japan, I see ver 1.0 PSPs come up once or twice a month at my local Sofmap. They sell for about 24,000 yen (which is pretty steep IMO) so I should pick one up and sell it to people $340. Not a bad profit!

Hey there's no shortage of good deals on 1.5 or 2.0 firmware psps on Ebay. $335? I'd say you better go see if you can find the kids who want to read good center. This is the worst news in a while. I thought pspupdates only reported on GOOD deals.

Screw that. Who in their mind would pay that much. Just go to walmart twords night and go into the games isle. Now, the walmarts I've been to keep all PSP games on the sides of the main console cases since the PSP selection isn't that big. Most of the clearks will let you pick out the game you want, just ask to see the PSPs and tell them you're looking for a specific type, and if you read about the numbers on the side of the box which indicate the firm, look for the right one. You should be able to find a 1.0-2.00.

# yeah, butGuest 2006-04-06 21:58
sure, the price is high, but no way I am buying from eBay, just got burnt too many times there...

But in terms of DS Lite, it's only this week when there are more places who have them in stock, and the renchi.com site is still the only one I can find with the White DS Lite, no one else seems to have them...

# 1.52Guest 2006-04-06 22:19
Well you can get 1.52 PSP's at the local store here, and you can upgrade n downgrade those to 1.5, plus they sell it for EUR 247 which is pretty fair price here

People diss ebay too much. if you are smart about it, and cehck the auction for overly high shipping, and cehckthe guy's feedback (only read their negative comments, so you know what they did wrong in the past). and you'll be fine.plus, if you make sure tio message and ask them about the firmware, you can always send it back if it isn't right, and get your mony back through paypal.

# Ebay Rocks!!Guest 2006-04-07 01:23
I have purchased 2x homebrew capable Psp's from Ebay on seperate occasions as well as many other items and not had a single problem. I always read the sellers feedback, ratings, check ID history, read all details in the auction, look for Power sellers and higher level Buyer protection. If you don't do your research you will get burned. As for the expensive DS-Lite, due to currency rates I got a Crystal white one from the US for the equivilant of £160 and I love it. If I lived in the US I would not buy it of course.Oh by the way, firmware is also important on the DS / DS-Lite if you want to run your own programs and Nintendo have also modified the firmware / hardware to block exploits but these blocks have been exploited just like they have been on the Psp.

TONS of stores in NYC Metro have 1.52s (even plenty of 1.50s still somehow). They are not worth paying such a high premium for, yet..

# Price keep loweringGuest 2006-04-25 02:18
Looks like the DS prices are lowering by the day... This renchi.com site has the navy and ice blues at $198 now, seems to be the lowest on the web, at least from what I can find.
