Needless to say Sony has sent a endless stream of firmware updates at the PSP's dedicated fans, thats 6, no make that 7 upgrades to the PSP firmware to date. Don't get me wrong, sometimes the updates are fairly welcome. With the web browser for instance, other times however the update is minor, and somewhat lackluster, even making gamers question the necessity of another update. Think back to yourself, how many times did you contemplate to update your Playstation Portable to a newer firmware simply because Sony required you to have the latest firmware in order to shake down hustlers and go down in history as Liberty City Stories #1 Gangsta. We know we have many times.
Well as they say, if your dreams are not extravagant then they may be answered. Enter Device Hook 0.41 Sample Launcher. Dev Hook is a device redirecting driver created by Booster. The application or firmware emulator as one of its features enables provides support for newer firmwares up to 2.5. This is a new update to what was a somewhat outdated loader, and something that we are sure you will enjoy. When we say enjoy, we mean love, because with this application you will be able to emulate full 2.5 edition PSP Firmware Support.

Yes, this means full support and access to the Web Browser among other features. Not just that, but think back to when your world trembled beneath you as you realized that playing Grand Theft Auto would require you to leave behind your beloved homebrew and update to a new firmware, albeit our beloved eLoader. Now GTA with full WiFi access, the fully functional web browser, and everything from firmware 2.5 and below can be yours with the latest edition of Device Hook. Oh, and did we forget to mention that WiFi is working (note below) with some minor exceptions? Leading us to believe that once any remaining bugs get ironed out that Location Free would be fully accessible on 1.5 as well.
So just how do you go about running GTA on your 1.5 PSP? We have put together this simple walkthrough below, taking you step by step and you can rest assured you will be enjoying the features that 2.5 firmware provides on your 1.5 PSP. Even before you can "Sony Firmware Update 3.0".

- Go to the Boot Select Menu and choose "Reboot XMB"
- In the Firmware Menu and select "2.50 + 2.00"
- Next go to UMD Version and make sure it is on "2.xx -> 2.00"
- (optional) Overclock the PSP to "333mhz"
- Finally, in UMD Mount, select "UMD Disk"
- Return to the Device Hook Main Menu and click "Start"
You will need to add the firmware dump from the firmware(s) that you wish to emulate. Included with the application are folders/files that specify the exact location where the files from their respective firmwares should be placed.

Note: There are two versions below. The 0.40 update showcases the Dev Hook Installer which allows redirects flash access to the PSP Memory Stick. The 0.41 version does have full 2.5 support, however WiFi is reportedly not functioning. In addition, overclocking was noted to possibly have a negative impact on Wifi. One thing to consider, while using the application it was noted that it might be possible to emulate 2.5 on a 2.0 version PSP allowing newer UMD's to be played on 2.0 PSP's, but no one at QJ.NET had one handy...
Update: Booster has released v0.41a of DevHook which fixes some small issues regarding wallpaper not restoring properly and other fixes when switching back and forth between the XMB and DevHook (Home + L/R). WiFi still does not work properly when set to 333mhz. Version 0.40/0.41 is needed as this version is not a standalone.

yes it does load isos.. it emulates the firmware first and then it loads up the game.. THIS IS AWSOME!!

This rocks and works!!! It also autoboots after you configure it the first time, so you can change the icon and Eboot name to something better like 2.5 mode. Everyone who finds that network doesnt work, please try the full version and not the update and do NOT overclock. UPDATE: Hmmm.... whenever I try to use navigate w/ the browser it crashes the psp

set the cpu speed tp 222/111 or else wifi wont work. wifi refuses to work if you clock to 333/166 fair warning

Great! found out how to go back to 1.5. Just hold the off switch for about 7 seconds then wait and turn it back on again. BACK TO 1.5!!! I was scared for a sec then wen i say 2.5!!!! EEEK!!!
yes i rebooted my psp and it it went back to normal.. but the umd was still able to play! it was a 2.50 and i didnt need to reload that emulator! wow sweet

Theres no way of loading an iso, i have checked and its quite impossible, it doesnt let you load any homebrew when in 2.5 firmware, people claiming ISOs are working are just having you on. This is a great app for origional UMDs though, my GTA finnaly works, who needs a modchip now eh, lol, this is sweet.

DevHook has always been an ISO loader. It's not until version 0.4 that firmware emulation was introduced. Have a look at the first screenshot. Notice the option ISO NO UMD and ISO ANYUMD? You say you can't run an iso loader while emulating 2.5, but you don't need to, you select the ISO you want to run before the emulation starts, and then the game appears in the menu like a normal UMD. You can even hit Home+L/R to change between ISO's while the emulated firmware is still running so you can even change games without rebooting. Personally, I'm very surprised that QJ posted this...

WHen i press the orange DL button nothing happens. I've even followed User FAQs to change trusted sites and ETC on my Internet Explorer 6. WTH is wrong with this?

from another board, to people who charge their PSPs while it's on. Make sure it's not in emulation mode as it will overheat your PSP. Also, the laser/UMD is running at all times this app is running. So do not open it while on the emulated XMB

WOW,WOW,WOW,, i bought a bunch of UMD videos and refused to upgrade so i have never been able to see them. Ive tested them and they all work! woohoo! And Yes Web Browser is fully functional, no problems here. Just Amazing. I saved an image off the browser and now have a desktop, i know its simple for people who have had 2.0+ but hell, its just awesome. Everything is working beautifully, mad props to everyone that helped make this. Just, WOW.

This App seems to load ISOs that require firmware 2.5+!! Ive just tried Monster Hunter and Its working perfectly. But it seems like i get all sorts of errors when using Web browser. WEb browser turns on, but you cannot connect to wireless router

HOWEVER... this DID corrupt my settings, after which I had to.. reboot, reset all my XMB settings. RE SWAP my X and O buttons. Reset all the XMB settings again because PSPset messes them up Remember what stupid PSPset changes your password to RE-DO my internet connection. it sucked.
The web browser works great, just set up your connection before you try to use it, and leave it at 222mhz, 333mhz doest not make that much of a difference anywayz. This is the best thing to happen to 1.5, im so happy i never upgraded! 1.5 for life!

OK ISOs work with this release! The internet browser works perfectly and you can play 2.0 games on it with multiplayer wireless. so all of you saying that the broswer doesnt work it wrong and ive been able to play socom online with 1.5 with online multiplayer.... Uh, if u ever get the BSOD whilst emulating, just powerdown... Um the flash updater REALLY scared me... :P But it all works! ( Make sure you dump your own updates, it works better. )

Now,now people stop wishing devhook didnt support iso's. And for those that are supprised that pspupdates posted this, honestly, who wont post it, its a breakthrough, on, multiple levels. Who would have thought the people that make the biggest breakthrough's would be pirates them selves? Me. ( Not inferring anything on fanjita or any other dev. )
Some guy said that if you charge your psp while using the firmware will cause it to overheat. I have had mine on for an hour on charge and can confirm that the psp overheats and it crashes the psp (i would say freeze, but since its over "heating", "freeze" just sounds weird), and i am sure it damages the inards of the thing because the psp has no fan. The whole right side, where the power connector goes is realllllly hot, my psp has never been this hot and i no i play with it for hours on end. So this is a caution to all you n00bs, dont charge the psp while using the firmware, be warned. ---- POX----

Very nice work down by a person who really knows about the firmwares. It sounds pretty easy but it must have taken a lot of time to code this app/emu. Great job! if they can emulate 2.50 so there is nothing which can stop them from emulating 2.7x #108: get the full pack not the addon stuff. You dont need fw dump at all. Please do some reading BEFORE you ask such question and make yourself sound stupid.
Great job on making a firmware emulator, but when I try to load GTA via UMD my PSP freezes just before it displays the PSP logo. Anybody else getting this? Still, well done.
this is really a great aprogram amazing!! to 107.. it shouldnt brick ur psp cuz there is no flash write i believe.. but merely reads the flash data from the devhooks firmware.. so it shoudlnt brick the psp at all. =)

I'm using a PAL UMDmovie with a japanese PSP, and everytime when starting the FW 2.5, it says the region code isnt same. What I have understand is that the ISO is working as a UMD from the FW 2.5, which mean when trying to start the ISO, it also trying to start the UMD, but wont work becuz of those damn region codes :(
i really love this site but please kill the lamers stupid comments YES it does load iso images if you would take the time and dl the software and read the read me files maybe there wouldnt be so much wasted space. So again this is great progress and please keep up the great work. And remember if you like the game then buy it.
Really should have waited until fw 3.0 got released before they released this app. You know sony will put a stop to this with the next firmware. then you're going to have all the 2.01+ lamers talking about how they got a ps1 emu. lameo

i just upgraded form 1.5 to 2.5 like an hour before this came out. noooooooooooooo
If you are using this to run backed up games then the UMD in the drive must be a game UMD and nothing else otherwise you will get an incorrect region code. Also you will find that clean and ''legal'' dumps are the ones that work. If you run the web browser set your CPU to 222mhz otherwise it will not work correctly. I wouldn't worry about bricking your Psp since Devhook has redirected all firmware reads and writes to the Memory stick but I could be wrong regarding the bricking risks. Also this is why you may find some games run slow at loading from Mem stick whereas the UMD's run quicker. I have tested Devhook with UMD movies that previously wouldn't run on my 1.5 but with Devhook it plays fine now. This program is better than RunUMD and MPH loader but I am sure the knowledge and sources from those two programs have helped Devhook become what it is today. This is a huge breakthrough but due to the recent news of Modchips and N4 emulation progress it has lost the spotlight somewhat. Now I can travel with my single 1.5 Psp and be able to play all of the 2.0/2.5 UMD's I own which is great!! A big thanks goes to the Dev's involved in this, just remember that amongst all of the flamers, the immature kids and trouble makers there are people who truly appreciate all of your hard work and only offer support both verbal and fiscal. Well done!!

Huzzah, it works! If you have the Neo 4in1 adapter (CF to MS) devhook WON'T work with it - you have to use a proper memorystick. Oh well, no ISO backups for me then.

for those who just got here. this is a iso loader, but it also loads umds that require 2.5 or lower. i have tested out the web browser and it does work. have not tested out savin pics from the web browser to my memory card yet though. umds that i can confirm that work are. gta.socom.smackdown vs raw. street fighter. i will post more here when i test them out

This is the best app i ever seen. Just wanna tell you that some games dont work like my Medevil on 2.6, but on 1.5 it still work so no reasons to cry

Ok so cheatdevice does work I am using 1.00a and so I would think eloader also works! And for #138 I belive it does work I dont see why it wouldnt. UPDATE: Cheatdevice and gta is a little slow and I would not recommend overclocking in gta!
Hi i like to thanks the person who made this but i cant get this to work at all I installed version 0.40 by copying only the two folders DEVHOOK and DEVHOOK% to PSP/GAMES like I usually do I follow everything on the picture but I get an error cant load devhook start so I thought maybe I need to delated 0.40 and install 0.41 but I get the same error message also the version still appears to be 0.40 this is very weird if I'm doing this wrong please advise me with the right procedure once again I thanks the creator of this wonderful program I'm sure is just something that I'm doing wrong please take two minutes of your time and help me get this software to work for me as well
i set all of the stuff up and everything but when i hit start it goes blank and shuts off! is this because i have a umd that does not have the 2.00+ firmware on it. If so can i load off the firmware update i have on my memory stick that is 2.00+?

i copied the files which were in the rar files to the MS like any homebrew. i placed the dh folder on the ms root. now when i try to load 2.5 on my psp it wont work. it just turns into black screen and turns off.

How do you get it to work? When I choose it, the PSP just freezes, then crashes. I have the clock speed at 222/111. I saw a comment where it said to have the connections preset, but when I run the whole DevHook, everything resets, the nickname, the connections, etc. I'd love to use the browser, can anyone help me?

I've got v.04 to work but how do you install the v04.1 updater? They contain same file names...are you suppose to click replace?
I had the same problem but not I fixed it. You just need to download the .40 version it's like 18mb and then you can use the .41 update. I thought that the update was the whole program. I should have known better I feel stupid ;)
I just went to create a new connection all over again, rebooted the PSP, and tried the web browser. It works fine, but a little slower than the actual browser on the 2.0+ PSPs (as I've used them myself). Also, infrastructure works on games as well (I'm only trying out Twisted Metal: Head On, the ISO).
Well, It is slightly annoying that the HDD doesn't work, some of the good apps which have been released don't support it now. I only have that and a 32mb card, which is not enough for this app to load onto. I really don't want to splash out and spend money on ANOTHER card, but it looks like i may just have to get a cheap 512... At least i could have movies on the hdd, and all homebrew on the 512 card i guess.

I am not 100% sure but since this emulates 2.50 firmware I don't believe that you could update your psp. Because your psp thinks it's a 2.50 psp and when you try and update it the psp will say you have the latest firmware and there is no need to update. so unless you do it from the network it won't work and I don't believe there are any umds with anything higher than 2.5 on them so you can't do it that way either. but don't take my word for it I could be wrong.

Yeah, a lot of people are arguing that they have "lost respect" in QJ and their posting of this, but seriously, this is NOT directly connected to loading ISOs. Granted it does load them, they have not encouraged it. They have simply stated that this allows 2.5 UMD games to be played on a 1.5 PSP, nothing more. If they stated that ISOs (illegal) could be played, then it would go against their word. There are a couple of you guys who get easily insinuated and jump to conclusions that you don't even know half of what they're saying. Please pay attention on what they're saying and less on what you should be saying back, because this is helpful for all 1.5 users alike.
I'm having some trouble downloading it. I get the file, but when I go to unrar it, Winrar says that there is a CRC error or sumthin. I have tried downlaoding a couple of times, but same error :( One question aswell, this doesn't play with the actual firmware of the PSP does it? it's all in memory so crashing the PSP takes it back to 1.5 right?

@ 190 you need to get the full version first as it is the whole program the update is just the eboot files it will not work without the .40 full download. @191 I have tried both the japan and us versions of Katamari and neither one works it may need 2.6 firmware. All it does is try to do the reboot thing and then the psp crashes.

i put the dev hook .40 in my games thing but i ddont know where to put the dh folder so i just put it in my h drive and then after i enter the reset xmb and all that stuff and press start a black screen come and it shuts down my psp and i cant go in the program again i dont know whats going someone help please

Been following the DevHook for awhile, and this is pretty freaken amazing, I was not expecting this.
first of all a real good work! but i cant get it started i tested outrun en socom (they are in iso folder in root) i downloaded 'the with firmware version' when i start it then i configure the options then i select socom then start after that my psp restarts en then me psp is 2.50 (yessssss! but i cant play 2.5 games yet :/ ) if i try to open devhook back it gives error that blabla is corrupted what am i doing wrong pls help!!!!

Great program ! I tried to start the XMB of firmware 2.00 but it only work with 2.5... And I could start GTA (I own the original UMD) and use the Cheat Device. The cheat device do not work with the MPH Launcher, but with Devhook it works !!! Again a super program that we must not update our 1.5 PSPs !
Just install .40 first and if you want to install .41 overwrite the two evhook folders in the game folder of the psp but not the others that should make it work I had the same black screen problem too and this fixed it.

When using the browser, is it normal for the memory stick to be constantly accessed? It seems like that makes everything lag a bit.
I tried to use this nice app. I copied everything to the root (4 folder went automaticly to PSP/..) So i startet dev hook. when tried 2 way to do it. 1. auto. and 2. i modified as descriped @pspupdates.com. Both times the result was is crash while start up of the system. I mean 1 second I saw the psp background moving (in black) and then it stoped and crash after 30 seconds. After this I had to set the firware (1.5) setting. What did I wrong?

for those of you that get stuck with the updates on your memory stick what you need to do is place a game with an update in the umd drive and run firmware installer after that you can run dev hook but that is where i am getting stuck

maybe I did the fiurmware dump wrong or something, but when I tried to load up the 2.5 the way you gusy said, it froze after booting up with a black background and the waves. then I reset the PSP and got that blue screen and got a bit scared, but anyway, I not gonna keep fooling with it, no real use for me
this program is pretty awesome. except i have one problem. I have two memory sticks and when the 2.0 version is being emulated the X button doesn't work after i switch memory cards. Also the other memory card has nothing on it. is there certain files needed on it? If so which ones?

If you are trying to load up modified backed up UMD's then most of the time it will crash. You should be able to get away with removing the update folder but if you change the prx then it will most likely crash at startup. To number 230 regarding the browser, Devhook works by redirecting all firmware reads and writes to memory stick so everything you do will alwyas constantly read from the memory stick with potential lag so this is perfectly normal. You might get better results with a high speed Memstick, especially Sandisk ones. Sony ones are the worst in my experience and much slower.

Hi, After reading a few post and testing. I can confirm that the web browser works as long as you keep the CPU speed to 222MHz. I originally had my CPU speed at 333MHz and I could not figure out why I'm getting ERRORS. So, I cursed out my PSP a few times and relax afterward... Now, I share you my solution. I confirmed it with a Japanese Ceramic White PSP w/ firmware 1.5. And a USA Black PSP w/firmware 1.5. Have fun.

Still getting used using X to confirm stuff now instead of O. :P A bug maybe, If you set a wallpaper and put it in sleep mode and than out again the background is black and you need to reset the wallpaper again. Also, about the overheating, why not put it in sleep mode while charging, can't be any harm in that can it?

Great Job Booster!! When using the browser in emulation mode it doesn't come up with the memory error like PSP's with the 2.00+ Firmware installed on them. This is great!! I guess this is using the memory card for the cache. Keep up the good work!!

I just copied the apps from games into my PSP but when I follow the instructions above i get an error. How do i install the firmware needed?
Download and install DevHook on your PSP. Find and download the firmware you want to use( 2.00 or 2.50) to your PC. Use a program like PBP Unpacker and unpack a firmware to a location on your PC. From those files, copy the DATA.PSAR file to the root of your memory card. Use the devhook firmware installer program on your PSS to install the firmware fromm the DATA.PSAR file to your memory stick. Then run DEVHOOK. Good Luck!! Hope this helps some people.

copy your saved files or w/e from your memory stick onto your comp... and then FORMAT YOUR MEMORY STICK TWICE!!!! and then install the files... v .40 and then .41, and then INSTALL your copy of v2.50 firmware dump using the firmware installer. Set settings to those described by the article itself. and your psp should AUTOMATICALLY reboot. (does not require holding power button/pulling battery out) I am running: PSP1000(Japanese) 1.00JP --> 1.50JP --> 2.00JP --> 1.50 JP 1GB Sony MSProDuo. I HAVE NO MODS ENABLED DURING THIS EMULATION ie. Fonthack, background hack etc... Hope this helps...

It was working great and I started testing and at one point I started having problems, and nothing worked as it should. I was resetting (with 5-sec off) a few times, when I took the UMD out... and ahmmm.. a surprise! "press "O" to reset your system settings" (or it was something close it it) then I just rebooted again with UMD-in, No-problem... rebooted again without UMD... ->press "O" I braved it, pressed "o" and had to set the PSP settings again. It looks like it's all good now, haven't re-tested the program tho, but if that happens then it must be writing to the FLASH at some point. (I used the .40 version) (it may have been from the .dax-ed iso... but who knows... didn't think it writes in the flash) kudos for the great work tho :)

Well even if psp updates didnt post this, most other PSP would have :P (ps2nfo, psp-hacks). A great app, a bit glitchy though, such as switching between games. Hmm I tried Socom online, yep its great, but it crashes to the main menu randomly, during matches :P. Fairly decent stuff here, but feild commander dosent work :(

Has anyone tested this on 2.0 firmware? Do I have to downgrade to 1.50 again? I'm going to check it out as soon as I get home from work. I'll post the results.
My psp 1.5 have change to 2.0 by using .40 version with the full pack. It reset the system, now I can't get back to 1.5 even holding the power off for 7 sec. Any clue how I get back?

I thought it would be a good idea to use PSPset or WAB version changer to change the firmware number up to 3.0 so more games would run. I dont know if this would work but you probably wouldnt get those "please update to play this game" things.

You should set up your network connections in 1.5 then use those in 2.5 You dont need 2.5 to scan for SSIDs.
i already instal dvhook progrma and then i run Daxter,and i have problem with save.I can't load it why?
I cant even load daxter with dh, nots sure because why all my other games work ok. Its probably just that its not compatible...yet. Maybe it will be fixed in the next release, I seem to remember getting problems with saving and loading before when I was playing from a few of my backed up iso's

Differences that I can see: 0.41 has 2.5 support (as stated in the readme) however so does 0.40 I believe, so not really quite sure what all thats about. It also has a firmware installer app too, I have no idea what this is for and didn't want to run it... anyone else care to comment or have any ideas?

I think what the firmware installer does is rips the firmware from the updater of the currently inserted UMD... That way, if you have a 2.71 UMD it will rip the flash files from the UMD, and if you run devhook .41 it will temporarily give you 2.71 firmware and you can run the UMD... At least that's what I thought... I don't have any 2.7 UMD to try it on, and it may only work on 2.50 and below or something. I don't know
ALL WRONG! This is what you need... 2.0 update eboot 2.5 update eboot PBP Unpacker When you have PBP Unpacker installed on your comp use it to extract the DATA.PSAR from EACH update eboot. Now once you have both take ONE and put it in the root of your memory stick. Use the Firmware Installer Program that was bundled with Devhook to install the firmware using the DATA.PSAR that you put in the root of your memory stick. Now once you have done that do the same for the other DATA.PSAR. Now you should have firmwares 2.0 and 2.5 installed. now all you have to do is start Devhook and use the settings that PSP updates posted.
I follow all the steps in the tutorial and when i finally press "Start" in the Device Hook Main Menu, my PSP shuts down and when i turn it on again im still 1.5. I've tried many many times but cant get it to work! Can any1 plz help me?

Thanks to whoever made this because you rule. There are a bunch of games I can now play thanks to you. If you make 2.60 work that'd be great and getting 2.70 or 2.71 would be even better. However, I have one concern, By using this I realize I'm booting the firmware off the memory stick but are there any dangers of bricking due to flashing on and off.
It has worked once..i've played fifa street 2. i've returned to menu, i've wanted to see a photo and psp has freezen.. i've had to format ms and reinstall devhook but it doesnt work anymore.. I've got two "fully versions" of devhook.. 0.40 and 0,41. Wot do i have to do? Put 0.4 first and then 0.41? Or only 041? Do i need to have an .iso in the ISO appart of fifa.cis(for example..)?? I need help..i need somebodies' help..
-> I've got some serious thoughts that i'd love to have the developers involved to take a look at: You say it doesn't access the flash memory but I have my doubts whether this is true or not. I know that once it's emulated, you redirect the read/write proccesses, but how come some people (including myself) had our 1.5 optionsdata messed up? It happens if you load a devhook 0.41 with wrong settings, it loads the 2.5 wavy lines but then the waves get black and turn off the psp. when you are back to 1.5, your options savefile is messed, then thankfully it asks you to press O to fix it. but this proves that the initial emulated 2.5 steps really do read from the actual hardware flash ^please prove me wrong
other thing: this IS an iso loader, but it doesn't function like the previous devhook versions. one of the main features of devhook was to load ISOs (or redirect them to actual iso loaders) EVEN if the umd hardware slot is EMPTY. This function was greatly used my people with broken UMD slots or people who just have parent control level 0 discs (ie: demo disc) and dont want to have the psp to boot it every god damn time(and cant access the umd eject slot easily, such as neopsppad users) this does NOT happen on the emulated 2.5, you currently NEED a game umd inserted in the slot (any game) And it doesn't run on slower memorysticks or HDD's, such as the one provided by the Datel or NEOpsppad8in1 / NEO4in1 models, which use microdrives.
also, when using a NEO product (which offers support to memorystick, SD, Compact Flash and microdrives / HDD's) you can't switch between the cards. actually, you can't switch memory cards even if both are msproduos with the emulator installed on both, it will hang up sooner or later. ... both the "run without umd in drive" and "run with microdrive compatibility" should be considered, as they are probably the only next improvements you have left to do (and that would help many people which are willing to help you too). it screwed up my memory stick it made its folder 107 gb and i only hvae a 1gb ms but i couldnt delete the files either. i had to copy all of my files onto my pc except the corrupt ones and format my ms in the psp menu but it is to late to send all of the files back i started it but it said over 200 min to go so i canceled it. school is over tommorrow and we have a short day so i will deal with it tommorrow. i just sent my some of my game saves so i can use it tommorrow but i hate this *****ing program. i would really like to use but i cant get it to work. what happened was it started to load the firmware but it stopped for some reason, i could see the wavy lines but there was no color only black and dark grey, then the psp shut off and i turned it back on but then it was all screwed up idk wtf i did wrong but im too tired to be pissed off. but in the morning i will be pissed. if someone knows what i did wrong can u please help me u can email me at av4237@yahoo.com thanks in advance if u can help

booster needs to fix the problem coz all my other loaders work even the old devhook works so what wrong with this one he needs to sort out this problem fast coz its pissing me off and something like this should of been sorted out within a couple days of its launch
ok..i have a 2 gig ms and i was hearin that it may not work cuz it was too big..bs...i formated my ms 2 times, then i put the files in. ran the firmware installer how they said to run it, then ran the other one w/ the umd of gta....and it worked....its working as im typing this...enough type...its game time!!!
FW 2.6 (or: FW2.71) loading feels like heaven.
Finally after fiddlin' with this thing for a day or so I got it to work. Like many, after reboot nothing happened. Just for kicks I DL the file from another site and followed the instructions and boom there it was, Reboot to 2.5. I have been having trouble dowloading files from PSPUpdates for some time (using firefox), but I never really thought much of untill now. Hope this helps.
Everything loads up liek the UMD select and all that jive, i followed the directions and when i clcik start it doesnt reboot. the psp just shuts down. i turn it on and nothign has changed, same ole 1.50 psp. Any help?
Find the "Full" version download that at let it auto-run, works like a charm for me :)
41a says Home L/R to switch between XMB & Devhook...... If this is to allow you to exit the XMB without a full power down then it does not work for me.... Wallpaper comes back fine after sleepy time. Everything else fine...

Proble with switching between ISO's is that you need to know where the ISO falls on the list in DEVHOOK. If you currently have the first game on the list in the main menu hit (home+R)it will take you to the next game down on the list. If you have the last ISO in the list running and you want the game above that one on the list you have to hit (home+L) and it will take you to the game above the current one on the list. In other words it doesn't cycle through the list it only goes to the next or previous ISO on the list. I hope I made sense, and I hope it helps. Great program, and love this site. Later!
i can see how useful this can be for some, but i'm gonna stick with my umd loaders, thanks very much. Sorry, but i don't see any reason for this, especially with my memstick having around 700mb of my original 1gb memstick, being so filled up with homebrew. I don't have a wireless router, so now i REALLY don't need to risk bricking my psp maybe at a later and less buggy version this would be worth getting, keep up the good work
This runs the newest 1.5 iso's. Such as Exit, which previously couldn't run. (I own the game I'm talking about an ISO Backup I created) So who knows how many not working ones turn into working ones. It's a great program.
for those who got a little confused as to how to get the browser working on use these steps mware's features jog through the following steps. Go to the Boot Select Menu and choose "Reboot XMB" In the Firmware Menu and select "2.50 + 2.00" Next go to UMD Version and make sure it is on "2.xx -> 2.00" (optional) Overclock the PSP to "222mhz"

pspupdates ll not talk about this because when ur on XMB (the OS of the psp) u hold home and u can switch between backup (ISO :O) R for back and L for Next that is really nice u dont have to restart ur psp for choose ur iso and return on devhook again and again thye fixed because in 0.41 this was buging after 3 next iso..well GJ i hope we ll get 2.71 soon now they find how emulates Firmware withut use Flash NO CHANCE OF BRICKING IN ANYWAY !

Sinx...FIFA Street 2 will work and with Fight Night, you have to do a few things but once that is done, it works as well. Will have to find the info though, because I don't know if I should post the site.

i copied all of the files back onto my ms and... i ran the firmware installer like it says to and... i set all of the setting exactly like it says to on this site and... it worked idk if it was because i had a 1.5 umd in the drive or cause i formatted my ms but it doesnt matter now cause it works

Hi, There seems to be a problem with the latest version 0.41a. The battery info cannot be seen, showing BLANKS in battery consumption etc.

the battery display works fine. i dont think that wifi works in .41 but that i guess was expected cause they said that but do i hvae to uninstall everytning or just teh dvehook folders?
I installed version 0.4 back and seems to be fine. reinstalled version 0.41a and again battery icon flashing off and on and showing BLANKS in power consumption...... I just copied one file of version 0.41a into my folder...did I have to make any other changes?
i tried using the 0.41 and i added the 0.41a into it before i installed the firmware and the battery display worked fine. im still trying to get wifi to work though. im gonna reinstall it with 0.40 and 0.41a so i have the fix. u might have to reinstal the firmware but if it is just the battery display it doesnt really matter does it.(i guess it would bug u not knowing but w/e)
I have tried everything to make this work put the DATA.PSAR in the root of the MS and installed the devhook firmware installer, put my ISO in my ISO folder in the root of the MS and followed the directions with the devhook launcher and it keeps saying that can't load/ start devhook. i was having the problem that my psp was crashing as soon as a pressed start, so i basically formatted my stick, and restored all my default settings, then i tried devhook, it works like a charm now
SOOO many people having problems because they don't understand that qj.net can't host official sony firmware files. so they arent in there. like SOOOO many, I guess theyre just used to things working right away

I recently buy a Neo PSP 8in1 adapter with a 4GB microdrive and surprisingly doesn't work with devhook when I try to load it from de MD, but it loads ok if I load it from my 1GB MS attached to the same adaptor, any ideas? maybe something to do with MS size or speed? I don't know this is realy weird, if anyone is having the same issue please repot it. thx
This isn't working for my 4gb micro drive either. From what I've read from other forums it just DOESN'T work with it. Tried it with my 32mb stick and works fine so I'm just going to use that until HOPEFULLY an undate is created which'll allow the 4gb microdrives to work!!

your wifi dont wokr o 333hz becoz ur heating the battery to fast and it could explode if use a normal umd that goes online then plug in ur charger u see that the red light is not online which means ur just runnng the game with battey dieing slower than usual or try to take out ur battery and just use the charger it wont run ur wifi fa_Gets plus one more thing i have a undiluter chip suckers it kicks but iam dumb i bought 4 games already weep weep , cry ,cry hahahaha

Yes theres 10 firmwares, and 9 updates, 4 of which are hotfixes. Hmm, i still cant see why i cant load this on my Sony Memorystick, i'll need them to change the loading methods. Hmm, as for my previous post that was edited, i was clearly supporting pspupdates reasons for posting this article, not objecting it in anyway. For now i boot it off my 32mbstick, which i now call my MODCHIP!!! :P Its pretty cool now we can play 2.00 - 2.50 UMD's nativly... Time to buy GTA, cuz my friend miracously wants it back!

I have to say that I was pretty annoyed with the fact that since I downgraded from 2.00 I couldn't play my legally owned GTA:LCS UMD. Since I was able to play all the other games with different loaders and such, and being a homebrew addict I patiently waited until someone solved this. And finally it has come, so I would like to praise the people behind this. Good job! And no, I do not think that PSPUpdates has done anything wrong. This is software for people like me, not all of you little ISO thieves.

Bump... I have a 1.5 (USA) PSP, however, when emulating 2.5 with Dev Hook my R1 UMD movies won't play (says wrong region)? Do I have Euro 2.5 firmware perhaps? Is there anyway to tell, other than buying a R2 UMD movie of couse? I always thought it was the drive that was locked and nothing to do with the firmware region? *Update*: purchased a R2 UMD movie at lunch today, so will know for sure later.

As usual they are scared to list "UMD ISO Loaders", but they FINALLY listed one, but guess what? They didn't mention that, LOL! The history of DevHook was it was a ISO Emulator that allowed you to play games with no UMD in the drive (Altho I assume that features was taken out for compatibility). I'm not saying "HEY EMULATE ISOs!", I'm just telling you the truth and what they forgot to mention >.>....

I came across this program on mininova under games with all the firmware files where they are suppossed to be. I took a risk and tested it and it works fine. Saves me the headache of finding them myself and trying to put it all together myself. Hope this helps some of you.

It cant hurt your PSP by trying it CISO'd. The worst that can happen is it will crash and you will have to reboot. Although I have not tried a ciso'd .iso I think I am running a modified verdsion of field commander.
YES there is a copy of the Sims 2 that is 472MB, i have tried it and it DOES work. it's a .cso. just look around on BT.

For those in need there are firmware loaded versions of this program out there that do not require the dh_inst folders and thus make this program as easy to use as any popular emulator. Time for me to go BUY some games and give Sony some of the money all their ludicrous fw updates has screwed them out of!

Finally can go out and buy new games. As far as the iso loader, I don't mind shelling out money for a good game, however you could use the iso loader to see if thier worth buying. What an awesome program .... first time I have played my psp in months
Make sure you install the .40 then the .41 then the .41a update for starters the you have to have the 2.50 firmware dump in your 2.50 firmware folder and then follow the directions pspupdates laid out for you already. hit start psp is in 2.50 mode. Yes I had a 1.5 upgraded to 2.0, downgraded back to 1.5 and installed this program, works like a charm.
ok now since alot of u guyz have been wanting help here it iz go here http://www.psp-hacks.com/forums/about30434.html (i know it wuz already put but o well) download the files he put and copy the dh and psp on 2 the root of the psp (next 2 the psp folder) next get a 2.50 update from psp-hacks ull also need pbp unpacker to get data.psar from the update get the DATA.PSAR u got and put it on the root of the psp now after all that is done diconnect ur psp from ur computer and run devhook firmware installer and do what it sayz after itz done u go to devhook v0.40 sample launcher and choose your settings (Listed in the steps at the top of this page above the comments) then press start and you should be running 2.50 on ur 1.50 psp (which seems really familiar to mph firmware installer) o and to go back to 1.50 simply turn off your psp all the way if this tutorial wuz too confusing 4 you just follow what the guy saz on psp-hacks(the link i provided at the top) u guyz on pspupdates should really help ppl out i mean come on, no 1 helped me so i spent three days lookin at this. what would really happen it would just stop using the flash and it might ruin the ms but u can always use a smaller cheaper ms then if it ever breaks u can just spend 20 more bucks on a new one and i dont really think that it will break the ms.

hi ppl, i got dev hook to work and my legally owned back ups of burnout legends and socom work like a charm even in multiplayer, however, when i try to play gta:LCS (legally owned backup) , i do all the options and then hit start. the psp reboots and all that comes up is a black screen. I hit home and return to see that the program is working as i am on v2.5, and the psp thinks that the umd inserted is gta, however when i hit start to start gta allo i get is the black screen again. Please can you help me guys, i would really appreciate it
Check if your settings are correct and using an unmodified version of GTA.
Anyone notice that the memory stick is accessed a ton. For example in GTA it lags really bad because of memory stick access. I thought the ms was faster than a umd. I dont remember other loaders accessing the ms and it slowing the game down. Its been a while since I dusted off the psp. Thanks Booster for the reason to break out the ole psp out of its dusty unused case!
make sure its not named .iso it should be name .ISO in capitals, i was having the same problems

I have not got the 2.5 firmware. I use the 2.0 firmware instead. I´ve managed to surf on the Internet and use different backgrounds, but I can not emulate a game. Not UMD (I tried the game GTA), and not iso-games (I tried tennis world tour and prince of persia). The PSP frezzes instead. Anyone else having the same problem?
#528. Thanks for the tip but didnt make a difference at all for me. When driving its hard to keep the car on the road because the ms is accessed so often that the frame rate drops. Im glad that worked for you but didnt make a bit of difference for me....

i just clicked files on this site and clicked firmwares on the left side of the screen. and there they both are
do what #524 says, thats the one........ and #533, thats the update eboot firmwares u downloaded from this site, if u extract them with something like pbp unpacker, you'll end up with data.psar and data.psp, and I dont think you can use them with this app, you'll have to have the flash folders.... Am I right about this, could someone verify??

is this app emulating 2.0 - 2.5 on top of 1.5 on the psp. is that why setting the cpu to 333 will make it work better because the psp is running two firmware at the sametime? and is there a difference running this app only at 222 vs 333?

sorry if this has been said already, but a new update, or mod rather, that allows WiFi access while clocked at 333MHz. And I was just curious... and not at all inclined to try it... but what would happen if you were to run an update ebbot while devhook is running? Propably nothing good, that's for sure lol
Hey people, i have the devhook sample launcher installed on my 1.5 psp, and i was to quik with using the firmware-installer,( i used it with a umd socom 2.00 psp)this is what happened, the installer begins to instal many many things but the problem is that in my oppinion you DON'T have to do this???? am i right,,,, because now when i start devhook sample lancher it doesn't work anymore, i know its my own fault because on this site nobody talks about to use the FIRMWAREINSTALLER FIRST, so i was to quik by pressing the buttons......... Does anybody got an answer for this jurk??????
the reason it worked before was u werent trying to emulate firmware only 1.5 isos but then u went to try a 2.0+ game and u dont have the firmware 2.5 installed so that is y it doesnt work

I have downloaded many devhook040/041 packages but cant get it to boot my ISOs. It reboots in 2.5/ 2.0 installed but how do you get it to launch an iso ? I've tried Bof3, worldpoker s. 2 but they dont work. It lets you browse the mem stick and then It gives a region error when launching anything after that. Any help guys.

got this tool 2 show up in y game list...followed all instructions...u no...setting it to 222, etc....but after starting the prog it restarted, showed the typical sony s[plash screen, then eventualy froze...after that this multilanguage warning apeared saying my settings are corrupted...i think this tool writes or access tha flash memry of the unit, which i think is very dangerous...nways any idea why it hangs? btw..i formated my mem stick b4 instaling this...pls help out...thnx!

the 2.50 official sony pbp update may be installed, but it isn't recommended instead, use the insaller eboot that comes with the app, and use a 2.5 umd with it. it will automatically extract the files for you. then, just fiddle around with the startup options in the actual devhook app until you get it to start correctly if you are still having trouble, try extracting the 2.0 files in the same manner as the 2.5, then restart the app (p.s. I know, I have the same grammar problem with learning French)

then extract all of the files out of the rar file. then copy all of the files to ur ms. u need to get the data.psar files out of hte 2.00 and the 2.50 eboot files put the 2.00 data.psar file in the root of ur memory stick then run the firmware installer program when finished put the 2.50 data.psar file in the root and rerun the firmware installer. then u need to have a 2.00+ umd game to run this. just put all of the settings to what they are at the top of this page. but to run an iso just change it to iso with any umd. if u cant find the eboots or cant figure out how to get the data.psar files out of the ebbot just email me at av4237@yahoo.com

Download PSafeP from here, and app that scans an EBOOT.PBP file to see whether it reads from/writes to the PSP's flash memory. http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=gotodownload&downloadid=1172 If you scan it yourself, you'll find that Devhook does. Now i'm not gonna try and p*** on anyones bonfire, but i am inclined that the reports of bricked PSPs are valid. This version of Devhook has only just been released remember, making it prone to being buggy (no disarespecta to the pioneers behind this software at all), and there are other third party browsers that do almost as good a job. Be patient, and wait for a more stable release, and don't use this software to load illegally obtained retail games.
Does anyone know the techincal reason Devhook doesn't work with the 4gb HDD addon? I've never had any problem with any other homebrew, but Devhook simply powers off the PSP. I tried it with my default 32mb duo pro stick and it works fine. I'm just curious why the difference in media has anything to do with how the App itself runs...

to my knowledge this program has no way of bricking ur psp. the only complaints are of it corrupting ur settings. but if u do it right u will be fine.
Fair enough drew4237, i agree that it cant be much more dangerous tha any other loader that tricks the PSP into believeing its a firmware that its not, but download this program and scan the EBOOT for yourself: http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=gotodownload&downloadid=1172 I can appreciate that other loaders access the flash too, but none of them screw your settings over. Just get the Links browser if you're only after a browser, its almost as good IMHO.

u cant use the 0.41 version to go online u will have to delete the 0.41 files and only install 0.40 @571 yes i realize that but that is what that program said about the downgrader and i have yet to hear about that ever bricking a psp. but if i am wrong please correct me but i hvae downgraded my psp about 5 times cause i like homebrew but i also wanted to play gta so i would upgrade and downgrade every once in a while, this was before this came out obviously.
OK, i reckon its pretty safe, the actual loader doesnt touch the flash, its only the prog that extracts the firmware that you only use once, so it should be OK. I was just worried, because im cool with messing around with the flash memory, i downgraded my PSP to use the homebrew as you did, but i dont want to use an app if i think its constantly screwing around with the flash memory, cos thats just dangerous. Well i formatted a spare pro Duo twice and the 2.00 browser worked, i was gonna fromat my other one but thought id try ther 2.5 browser first, which works perfectly. 2.00 still crashes at the same point on that stick. Strange lol.

Not at the moment, no, there is no possible way despite what anyone tells you. Whether a 2.5 downgrader will appear in the future is anyones guess, but don't mess with your flash memory unless you know what your doing, and are confident the process is safe and works.

hold the power switch up untill the psp shuts off then turn it back on. it just emulates 2.5 and loads the game right away then when u quit it just loaded the 2.5 xmb.
if the UMD of Daxter will work on it... wanting to buy one but not as a coaster, as a game :P
some how i can play my (UMD)wwe 2006_ 2.5 firmware on my 2.0 psp i believe it is because i used runumd to acquire the game's flash firmware when i bought it 1.52 downgraded 1.5 upgraded via 2.0 GTA(UMD) it never worked before on my 2.0 firmware but after using the loader whilst it was at firmware 1.5 and then upgrading via GTA(UMD) it can now play wwe 2006(UMD) its great coz i can still downgrade and use Devhook
will it really turn your psp into a 2.5 because it took me a while to get it to 1.5,also does anyone know where to get a 2.6 downgrader or a ps1 emulator

i didnt know how to quit it at first but it sucks that u have to just hold the power switch up to quit it. but i still love this program

I have a PSP-1000K (japanese) and i'm having trouble playing "legal backups" using a region 2 UMD Movie within the emulated "again japanese" 2.50 firmware. When i insert the disc it says "This disc cannot be started. The region code is not correct." As far as i know region 2 umd movies are compatible with japanese psp's, so does anyone comment on this issue please? PS: I know it works if you use a UMD game disc, it's been written several times. What i want to know is why it gives that error when i put a region 2 UMD movie to my japanese psp which is emulating 2.50 japanese firmware. isn't that a bit odd?

Make a folder on the root of your memory stick called ISO and put them in there....run devhook and it should see all the ISOs you have in that folder
i cant believe all u 1.5/1.0 people, u finally get an app tht lets u play 2.5 firmware and U STILL AINT HAPPY!!! jeez if ur tht bothered about the guys work he must have bene doing for AGES, and all of it for free, then either work on one urself or upgrade like the other part of the community. All people keep moanin about in here is 'does it run 2.5 iso's now', the guy made it to run UMDS!!!! not newer iso's. its a clever piece of work, but all u 1.5 and 1.0 snobs just dont appreciate the work he must have gone through to make this

OK EVERYONE, stop complaining and listen up. After freaking out about this myself I followed the instuctions and everything worked fine. I think one part is missed and that is you have to run the firmware installer. When the instructions don't tell you is what exactly happens. Download and extract all the files you need, such as the eboot.php (what ever firmware you need) and devhook. Put the dh folder from devhook on the root of the memory stick. Drag or copy the psp folder to the root of the memorystick also. Copy the data.psar file to the root of the memory stick. so you will have a directory structure like so /DH /PSP /GAME DEVHOOK DEVHOOK% DEV_INST DEV_INST% DATA.PSAR Now that everything is installed you need to run the firmware installer program FIRST. What this does is copies the firmware information to the correct folders in the DH folder. When ever you are in emulation mode system calls and programs related to your firmware(web browser) are executed from the memory stick and not the real firmwares' memory location. After you start the firmware installer you will see a lot of text telling you what it's doing, then you will have a choice to exit or copy some other files. Just exit. Now run the devhook program, use the setting menu to do what you want, load umd, iso, what ever. select start. What happens now is the psp will reboot and load the updated firmware from the memory stick. What you now have is the EMULATED version of the firmware you selected, NOT the original 1.5. If you have the umd loaded already it will self load. Now you can play around like you have a 2.5 psp and get on the internet and whatnot. To get back to 1.5 simply shut the psp down by hold the power switch for 7-10 seconds and then the thing boots up you are golden. *Sidenote, because the original instrustion weren't very clear, and no one explained what was going on, I seriously though I upgraded my firmware, and was PISSED. The firmware installer needs to explain this when is starts so it doesn't confuse anyone. Anyway, so I ended up running the recently released downgrader, and all seemed fine, THANK GOD I DID NOT BRICK MY PSP. My wife would have been pissed that I would have had to buy another psp. All of this is from a clean install, if you have devhook already installed, just delete the file and start over. After I downgraded from the fake firmware, I couldn't get devhook to load the emulated firmware untill I started from scratch. Now everything works good. One thing I have not tried is to use the GTA exploit to run other programs, to scared to try :)

you guys ahve to go to other websites to download the firm wares.... comment #634 shows you how to get things done, but you still need a few programs to get that data.psar on your root of your memory stick
