Needless to say Sony has sent a endless stream of firmware updates at the PSP's dedicated fans, thats 6, no make that 7 upgrades to the PSP firmware to date. Don't get me wrong, sometimes the updates are fairly welcome. With the web browser for instance, other times however the update is minor, and somewhat lackluster, even making gamers question the necessity of another update. Think back to yourself, how many times did you contemplate to update your Playstation Portable to a newer firmware simply because Sony required you to have the latest firmware in order to shake down hustlers and go down in history as Liberty City Stories #1 Gangsta. We know we have many times.

Well as they say, if your dreams are not extravagant then they may be answered. Enter Device Hook 0.41 Sample Launcher. Dev Hook is a device redirecting driver created by Booster. The application or firmware emulator as one of its features enables provides support for newer firmwares up to 2.5. This is a new update to what was a somewhat outdated loader, and something that we are sure you will enjoy. When we say enjoy, we mean love, because with this application you will be able to emulate full 2.5 edition PSP Firmware Support.

Defy the Update Machine. Play 2.5 UMD's and Browse the Web with 1.5 Firmware!

Yes, this means full support and access to the Web Browser among other features. Not just that, but think back to when your world trembled beneath you as you realized that playing Grand Theft Auto would require you to leave behind your beloved homebrew and update to a new firmware, albeit our beloved eLoader. Now GTA with full WiFi access, the fully functional web browser, and everything from firmware 2.5 and below can be yours with the latest edition of Device Hook. Oh, and did we forget to mention that WiFi is working (note below) with some minor exceptions? Leading us to believe that once any remaining bugs get ironed out that Location Free would be fully accessible on 1.5 as well.

So just how do you go about running GTA on your 1.5 PSP? We have put together this simple walkthrough below, taking you step by step and you can rest assured you will be enjoying the features that 2.5 firmware provides on your 1.5 PSP. Even before you can "Sony Firmware Update 3.0".

Once you extract Device Hook onto your computer, copy both folders over to your PSP like any other homebrew. Then you are going to want to run it from the game menu on your PSP. The issue at hand here gamers is running newer games and taking advantage of the full blown PSP web browser. In order to take full advantage of the PSP 2.5 Firmware's features jog through the following steps.

Go to the Boot Select Menu and choose "Reboot XMB"
In the Firmware Menu and select "2.50 + 2.00"
Next go to UMD Version and make sure it is on "2.xx -> 2.00"
(optional) Overclock the PSP to "333mhz"
Finally, in UMD Mount, select "UMD Disk"
Return to the Device Hook Main Menu and click "Start"

Once your PSP reboots you will be in 2.50 mode. You are able to view the PSP Web Browser via this menu as well as play UMD's that require up to version 2.5 Firmware. This application will allow you to jump between newer PSP games that require firmware updates, the web browser, AND great games and applications such as Callisto that require 1.5 firmware all without upgrading or downgrading. They say miracles dont come true...

You will need to add the firmware dump from the firmware(s) that you wish to emulate. Included with the application are folders/files that specify the exact location where the files from their respective firmwares should be placed.

- FW2.71 reboot
- NAND driver emulation

Note: There are two versions below. The 0.40 update showcases the Dev Hook Installer which allows redirects flash access to the PSP Memory Stick. The 0.41 version does have full 2.5 support, however WiFi is reportedly not functioning. In addition, overclocking was noted to possibly have a negative impact on Wifi. One thing to consider, while using the application it was noted that it might be possible to emulate 2.5 on a 2.0 version PSP allowing newer UMD's to be played on 2.0 PSP's, but no one at QJ.NET had one handy...

Update: Booster has released v0.41a of DevHook which fixes some small issues regarding wallpaper not restoring properly and other fixes when switching back and forth between the XMB and DevHook (Home + L/R). WiFi still does not work properly when set to 333mhz. Version 0.40/0.41 is needed as this version is not a standalone.

This rocks and works!!! It also autoboots after you configure it the first time, so you can change the icon and Eboot name to something better like 2.5 mode.

Everyone who finds that network doesnt work, please try the full version and not the update and do NOT overclock.

Theres no way of loading an iso, i have checked and its quite impossible, it doesnt let you load any homebrew when in 2.5 firmware, people claiming ISOs are working are just having you on. This is a great app for origional UMDs though, my GTA finnaly works, who needs a modchip now eh, lol, this is sweet.

DevHook has always been an ISO loader. It's not until version 0.4 that firmware emulation was introduced.

Have a look at the first screenshot. Notice the option ISO NO UMD and ISO ANYUMD?

You say you can't run an iso loader while emulating 2.5, but you don't need to, you select the ISO you want to run before the emulation starts, and then the game appears in the menu like a normal UMD. You can even hit Home+L/R to change between ISO's while the emulated firmware is still running so you can even change games without rebooting.

Personally, I'm very surprised that QJ posted this...

WOW,WOW,WOW,, i bought a bunch of UMD videos and refused to upgrade so i have never been able to see them. Ive tested them and they all work! woohoo! And Yes Web Browser is fully functional, no problems here. Just Amazing. I saved an image off the browser and now have a desktop, i know its simple for people who have had 2.0+ but hell, its just awesome. Everything is working beautifully, mad props to everyone that helped make this. Just, WOW.

OK ISOs work with this release! The internet browser works perfectly and you can play 2.0 games on it with multiplayer wireless. so all of you saying that the broswer doesnt work it wrong and ive been able to play socom online with 1.5 with online multiplayer....

The PSP community is by far the worst community of all, it includes the most arrogant spitefull people to grace gods given earth, just look at the posts for monkey 64, full of disrespect for the author and everyone else, these people, which is about 95% of the community should be shot with a sawn off shotgun to the head.

Anyway, to help you out, put an ISO folder in the Root of your mem stick and put your isos in there, it should pick it up.

Some guy said that if you charge your psp while using the firmware will cause it to overheat.

I have had mine on for an hour on charge and can confirm that the psp overheats and it crashes the psp (i would say freeze, but since its over "heating", "freeze" just sounds weird), and i am sure it damages the inards of the thing because the psp has no fan. The whole right side, where the power connector goes is realllllly hot, my psp has never been this hot and i no i play with it for hours on end.

So this is a caution to all you n00bs, dont charge the psp while using the firmware, be warned.

Very nice work down by a person who really knows about the firmwares. It sounds pretty easy but it must have taken a lot of time to code this app/emu. Great job! if they can emulate 2.50 so there is nothing which can stop them from emulating 2.7x

I'm using a PAL UMDmovie with a japanese PSP, and everytime when starting the FW 2.5, it says the region code isnt same. What I have understand is that the ISO is working as a UMD from the FW 2.5, which mean when trying to start the ISO, it also trying to start the UMD, but wont work becuz of those damn region codes :(

If you are using this to run backed up games then the UMD in the drive must be a game UMD and nothing else otherwise you will get an incorrect region code. Also you will find that clean and ''legal'' dumps are the ones that work.

If you run the web browser set your CPU to 222mhz otherwise it will not work correctly. I wouldn't worry about bricking your Psp since Devhook has redirected all firmware reads and writes to the Memory stick but I could be wrong regarding the bricking risks. Also this is why you may find some games run slow at loading from Mem stick whereas the UMD's run quicker.

I have tested Devhook with UMD movies that previously wouldn't run on my 1.5 but with Devhook it plays fine now. This program is better than RunUMD and MPH loader but I am sure the knowledge and sources from those two programs have helped Devhook become what it is today.

This is a huge breakthrough but due to the recent news of Modchips and N4 emulation progress it has lost the spotlight somewhat.

Now I can travel with my single 1.5 Psp and be able to play all of the 2.0/2.5 UMD's I own which is great!!

A big thanks goes to the Dev's involved in this, just remember that amongst all of the flamers, the immature kids and trouble makers there are people who truly appreciate all of your hard work and only offer support both verbal and fiscal. Well done!!

Huzzah, it works! If you have the Neo 4in1 adapter (CF to MS) devhook WON'T work with it - you have to use a proper memorystick. Oh well, no ISO backups for me then.

for those who just got here. this is a iso loader, but it also loads umds that require 2.5 or lower. i have tested out the web browser and it does work. have not tested out savin pics from the web browser to my memory card yet though. umds that i can confirm that work are. gta.socom.smackdown vs raw. street fighter. i will post more here when i test them out

- thats ecatly what happend to me when trying to boot up ISO, thought it was because I was using a PAL UMD with my japanese PSP...

Ok so cheatdevice does work I am using 1.00a and so I would think eloader also works! And for #138 I belive it does work I dont see why it wouldnt.

UPDATE: Cheatdevice and gta is a little slow and I would not recommend overclocking in gta!

Hi i like to thanks the person who made this but i cant get this to work at all I installed version 0.40 by copying only the two folders DEVHOOK and DEVHOOK% to PSP/GAMES like I usually do I follow everything on the picture but I get an error cant load devhook start so I thought maybe I need to delated 0.40 and install 0.41 but I get the same error message also the version still appears to be 0.40 this is very weird if I'm doing this wrong please advise me with the right procedure once again I thanks the creator of this wonderful program I'm sure is just something that I'm doing wrong please take two minutes of your time and help me get this software to work for me as well

i copied the files which were in the rar files to the MS like any homebrew. i placed the dh folder on the ms root. now when i try to load 2.5 on my psp it wont work. it just turns into black screen and turns off.

How do you get it to work? When I choose it, the PSP just freezes, then crashes. I have the clock speed at 222/111. I had the same problem but not I fixed it. You just need to download the .40 version it's like 18mb and then you can use the .41 update. I thought that the update was the whole program. I should have known better I feel stupid ;)

I just went to create a new connection all over again, rebooted the PSP, and tried the web browser. It works fine, but a little slower than the actual browser on the 2.0+ PSPs (as I've used them myself). Also, infrastructure works on games as well (I'm only trying out Twisted Metal: Head On, the ISO).

Well, It is slightly annoying that the HDD doesn't work, some of the good apps which have been released don't support it now.

I am not 100% sure but since this emulates 2.50 firmware I don't believe that you could update your psp. Because your psp thinks it's a 2.50 psp and when you try and update it the psp will say you have the latest firmware and there is no need to update. so unless you do it from the network it won't work and I don't believe there are any umds with anything higher than 2.5 on them so you can't do it that way either. but don't take my word for it I could be wrong.

Yeah, a lot of people are arguing that they have "lost respect" in QJ and their posting of this, but seriously, this is NOT directly connected to loading ISOs. Granted it does load them, they have not encouraged it. They have simply stated that this allows 2.5 UMD games to be played on a 1.5 PSP, nothing more. If they stated that ISOs (illegal) could be played, then it would go against their word. There are a couple of you guys who get easily insinuated and jump to conclusions that you don't even know half of what they're saying. I'm having some trouble downloading it. I get the file, but when I go to unrar it, Winrar says that there is a CRC error or sumthin. I have tried downlaoding a couple of times, but same error :(

I have tried both the japan and us versions of Katamari and neither one works it may need 2.6 firmware. All it does is try to do the reboot thing and then the psp crashes.

"Go to the Boot Select Menu and choose "Reboot XMB"

In the Firmware Menu and select "2.50 + 2.00"

Next go to UMD Version and make sure it is on "2.xx -> 2.00"

(optional) Overclock the PSP to "333mhz"

Finally, in UMD Mount, select "UMD Disk"

Return to the Device Hook Main Menu and click "Start"

Great program ! I tried to start the XMB of firmware 2.00 but it only work with 2.5... And I could start GTA (I own the original UMD) and use the Cheat Device. The cheat device do not work with the MPH Launcher, but with Devhook it works !!! Again a super program that we must not update our 1.5 PSPs !

Just install .40 first and if you want to install .41 overwrite the two evhook folders in the game folder of the psp but not the others that should make it work I had the same black screen problem too and this fixed it.

I tried to use this nice app. I copied everything to the root (4 folder went automaticly to PSP/..)

So i startet dev hook. when tried 2 way to do it. 1. auto. and 2. i modified as descriped @pspupdates.com. Both times the result was is crash while start up of the system. I mean 1 second I saw the psp background moving (in black) and then it stoped and crash after 30 seconds. After this I had to set the firware (1.5) setting.

What did I wrong?

If you are trying to load up modified backed up UMD's then most of the time it will crash. You should be able to get away with removing the update folder but if you change the prx then it will most likely crash at startup.

To number 230 regarding the browser, Devhook works by redirecting all firmware reads and writes to memory stick so everything you do will alwyas constantly read from the memory stick with potential lag so this is perfectly normal. You might get better results with a high speed Memstick, especially Sandisk ones. Sony ones are the worst in my experience and much slower.

After reading a few post and testing. I can confirm that the web browser works as long as you keep the CPU speed to 222MHz.

I originally had my CPU speed at 333MHz and I could not figure out why I'm getting ERRORS. So, I cursed out my PSP a few times and relax afterward... Now, I share you my solution.

I confirmed it with a Japanese Ceramic White PSP w/ firmware 1.5. And a USA Black PSP w/firmware 1.5. Have fun.

Then run DEVHOOK.

copy your saved files or w/e from your memory stick onto your comp... and then FORMAT YOUR MEMORY STICK TWICE!!!! and then install the files... v .40 and then .41,

and then INSTALL your copy of v2.50 firmware dump using the firmware installer. Set settings to those described by the article itself. and your psp should AUTOMATICALLY reboot. (does not require holding power button/pulling battery out)

I am running: PSP1000(Japanese) 1.00JP --> 1.50JP --> 2.00JP --> 1.50 JP 1GB Sony MSProDuo. I HAVE NO MODS ENABLED DURING THIS EMULATION ie. Fonthack, background hack etc...

It was working great and I started testing and at one point I started having problems, and nothing worked as it should.

I was resetting (with 5-sec off) a few times, when I took the UMD out... and ahmmm.. a surprise!

"press "O" to reset your system settings" (or it was something close it it)

then I just rebooted again with UMD-in, No-problem...

rebooted again without UMD... ->press "O"

I braved it, pressed "o" and had to set the PSP settings again. It looks like it's all good now, haven't re-tested the program tho, but if that happens then it must be writing to the FLASH at some point.

(I used the .40 version)

(it may have been from the .dax-ed iso... but who knows... didn't think it writes in the flash)

I think what the firmware installer does is rips the firmware from the updater of the currently inserted UMD... That way, if you have a 2.71 UMD it will rip the flash files from the UMD, and if you run devhook .41 it will temporarily give you 2.71 firmware and you can run the UMD... At least that's what I thought... I don't have any 2.7 UMD to try it on, and it may only work on 2.50 and below or something. I don't know

This is what you need...

2.0 update eboot

2.5 update eboot

PBP Unpacker

When you have PBP Unpacker installed on your comp use it to extract the DATA.PSAR from EACH update eboot.

Now once you have both take ONE and put it in the root of your memory stick. Use the Firmware Installer Program that was bundled with Devhook to install the firmware using the DATA.PSAR that you put in the root of your memory stick.

Now once you have done that do the same for the other DATA.PSAR.

Now you should have firmwares 2.0 and 2.5 installed.

now all you have to do is start Devhook and use the settings that PSP updates posted.

It happens if you load a devhook 0.41 with wrong settings, it loads the 2.5 wavy lines but then the waves get black and turn off the psp.

when you are back to 1.5, your options savefile is messed, then thankfully it asks you to press O to fix it.

but this proves that the initial emulated 2.5 steps really do read from the actual hardware flash

other thing: this IS an iso loader, but it doesn't function like the previous devhook versions.

one of the main features of devhook was to load ISOs (or redirect them to actual iso loaders) EVEN if the umd hardware slot is EMPTY.

This function was greatly used my people with broken UMD slots or people who just have parent control level 0 discs (ie: demo disc) and dont want to have the psp to boot it every god damn time(and cant access the umd eject slot easily, such as neopsppad users)

this does NOT happen on the emulated 2.5, you currently NEED a game umd inserted in the slot (any game)

And it doesn't run on slower memorysticks or HDD's, such as the one provided by the Datel or NEOpsppad8in1 / NEO4in1 models, which use microdrives.

also, when using a NEO product (which offers support to memorystick, SD, Compact Flash and microdrives / HDD's) you can't switch between the cards. actually, you can't switch memory cards even if both are msproduos with the emulator installed on both, it will hang up sooner or later.

it screwed up my memory stick it made its folder 107 gb and i only hvae a 1gb ms but i couldnt delete the files either. i had to copy all of my files onto my pc except the corrupt ones and format my ms in the psp menu but it is to late to send all of the files back i started it but it said over 200 min to go so i canceled it. school is over tommorrow and we have a short day so i will deal with it tommorrow. i just sent my some of my game saves so i can use it tommorrow but i hate this *****ing program.

Finally after fiddlin' with this thing for a day or so I got it to work. Like many, after reboot nothing happened.

Just for kicks I DL the file from another site and followed the instructions and boom there it was, Reboot to 2.5. I have been having trouble dowloading files from PSPUpdates for some time (using firefox), but I never really thought much of untill now. Hope this helps.

Proble with switching between ISO's is that you need to know where the ISO falls on the list in DEVHOOK. If you currently have the first game on the list in the main menu hit (home+R)it will take you to the next game down on the list. If you have the last ISO in the list running and you want the game above that one on the list you have to hit (home+L) and it will take you to the game above the current one on the list. In other words it doesn't cycle through the list it only goes to the next or previous ISO on the list. I hope I made sense, and I hope it helps.

Sorry, but i don't see any reason for this, especially with my memstick having around 700mb of my original 1gb memstick, being so filled up with homebrew. I don't have a wireless router, so now i REALLY don't need to risk bricking my psp

maybe at a later and less buggy version this would be worth getting, keep up the good work

This runs the newest 1.5 iso's. Such as Exit, which previously couldn't run. (I own the game I'm talking about an ISO Backup I created) So who knows how many not working ones turn into working ones. It's a great program.

for those who got a little confused as to how to get the browser working on use these steps

mware's features jog through the following steps.

Go to the Boot Select Menu and choose "Reboot XMB"

In the Firmware Menu and select "2.50 + 2.00"

Next go to UMD Version and make sure it is on "2.xx -> 2.00"

(optional) Overclock the PSP to "222mhz"

pspupdates ll not talk about this because when ur on XMB (the OS of the psp) u hold home and u can switch between backup (ISO :O) R for back and L for Next that is really nice u dont have to restart ur psp for choose ur iso and return on devhook again and again thye fixed because in 0.41 this was buging after 3 next iso..well GJ i hope we ll get 2.71 soon now they find how emulates Firmware withut use Flash NO CHANCE OF BRICKING IN ANYWAY !

i tried using the 0.41 and i added the 0.41a into it before i installed the firmware and the battery display worked fine. im still trying to get wifi to work though. im gonna reinstall it with 0.40 and 0.41a so i have the fix. u might have to reinstal the firmware but if it is just the battery display it doesnt really matter does it.(i guess it would bug u not knowing but w/e)

I have tried everything to make this work put the DATA.PSAR in the root of the MS and installed the devhook firmware installer, put my ISO in my ISO folder in the root of the MS and followed the directions with the devhook launcher and it keeps saying that can't load/ start devhook. I have to say that I was pretty annoyed with the fact that since I downgraded from 2.00 I couldn't play my legally owned GTA:LCS UMD.

Since I was able to play all the other games with different loaders and such, and being a homebrew addict I patiently waited until someone solved this.

And finally it has come, so I would like to praise the people behind this. Good job!

Then run DEVHOOK.

As usual they are scared to list "UMD ISO Loaders", but they FINALLY listed one, but guess what? They didn't mention that, LOL! The history of DevHook was it was a ISO Emulator that allowed you to play games with no UMD in the drive (Altho I assume that features was taken out for compatibility). It cant hurt your PSP by trying it CISO'd. The worst that can happen is it will crash and you will have to reboot. Although I have not tried a ciso'd .iso I think I am running a modified verdsion of field commander.

Make sure you install the .40 then the .41 then the .41a update for starters the you have to have the 2.50 firmware dump in your 2.50 firmware folder and then follow the directions pspupdates laid out for you already. hit start psp is in 2.50 mode.

ull also need pbp unpacker to get data.psar from the update

get the DATA.PSAR u got and put it on the root of the psp

now after all that is done diconnect ur psp from ur computer and run devhook firmware installer and do what it sayz

after itz done u go to devhook v0.40 sample launcher and choose your settings (Listed in the steps at the top of this page above the comments)

then press start and you should be running 2.50 on ur 1.50 psp

(which seems really familiar to mph firmware installer)

o and to go back to 1.50 simply turn off your psp all the way

if this tutorial wuz too confusing 4 you just follow what the guy saz on psp-hacks(the link i provided at the top)

u guyz on pspupdates should really help ppl out i mean come on, no 1 helped me so i spent three days lookin at this. Hav a little more respect

Anyone notice that the memory stick is accessed a ton. For example in GTA it lags really bad because of memory stick access. I thought the ms was faster than a umd. I have not got the 2.5 firmware. I use the 2.0 firmware instead. I´ve managed to surf on the Internet and use different backgrounds, but I can not emulate a game. Not UMD (I tried the game GTA), and not iso-games (I tried tennis world tour and prince of persia). The PSP frezzes instead.

Hey people, i have the devhook sample launcher installed on my 1.5 psp, and i was to quik with using the firmware-installer,( i used it with a umd socom 2.00 psp)this is what happened, the installer begins to instal many many things but the problem is that in my oppinion you DON'T have to do this???? am i right,,,, because now when i start devhook sample lancher it doesn't work anymore, i know its my own fault because on this site nobody talks about to use the FIRMWAREINSTALL ER FIRST, so i was to quik by pressing the buttons.........

I have downloaded many devhook040/041 packages but cant get it to boot my ISOs.

It reboots in 2.5/ 2.0 installed but how do you get it to launch an iso ? I've tried Bof3, worldpoker s. 2 but they dont work.

It lets you browse the mem stick and then It gives a region error when launching anything after that.

Any help guys.

the 2.50 official sony pbp update may be installed, but it isn't recommended

instead, use the insaller eboot that comes with the app, and use a 2.5 umd with it. it will automatically extract the files for you. then, just fiddle around with the startup options in the actual devhook app until you get it to start correctly

if you are still having trouble, try extracting the 2.0 files in the same manner as the 2.5, then restart the app

(p.s. I know, I have the same grammar problem with learning French)

Download PSafeP from here, and app that scans an EBOOT.PBP file to see whether it reads from/writes to the PSP's flash memory.

If you scan it yourself, you'll find that Devhook does. Now i'm not gonna try and p*** on anyones bonfire, but i am inclined that the reports of bricked PSPs are valid. This version of Devhook has only just been released remember, making it prone to being buggy (no disarespecta to the pioneers behind this software at all), and there are other third party browsers that do almost as good a job.

Be patient, and wait for a more stable release, and don't use this software to load illegally obtained retail games.

OK, i reckon its pretty safe, the actual loader doesnt touch the flash, its only the prog that extracts the firmware that you only use once, so it should be OK.

I was just worried, because im cool with messing around with the flash memory, i downgraded my PSP to use the homebrew as you did, but i dont want to use an app if i think its constantly screwing around with the flash memory, cos thats just dangerous.

Not at the moment, no, there is no possible way despite what anyone tells you. Whether a 2.5 downgrader will appear in the future is anyones guess, but don't mess with your flash memory unless you know what your doing, and are confident the process is safe and works.

hold the power switch up untill the psp shuts off then turn it back on.

it just emulates 2.5 and loads the game right away then when u quit it just loaded the 2.5 xmb.

some how i can play my (UMD)wwe 2006_ 2.5 firmware on my 2.0 psp i believe it is because i used runumd to acquire the game's flash

firmware when i bought it 1.52

downgraded 1.5

upgraded via 2.0 GTA(UMD)

it never worked before on my 2.0 firmware but after using the loader whilst it was at firmware 1.5 and then upgrading via GTA(UMD) it can now play wwe 2006(UMD)

its great coz i can still downgrade and use Devhook

I have a PSP-1000K (japanese) and i'm having trouble playing "legal backups" using a region 2 UMD Movie within the emulated "again japanese" 2.50 firmware. When i insert the disc it says "This disc cannot be started. The region code is not correct." As far as i know region 2 umd movies are compatible with japanese psp's, so does anyone comment on this issue please?

PS: I know it works if you use a UMD game disc, it's been written several times. What i want to know is why it gives that error when i put a region 2 UMD movie to my japanese psp which is emulating 2.50 japanese firmware. isn't that a bit odd?

i cant believe all u 1.5/1.0 people, u finally get an app tht lets u play 2.5 firmware and U STILL AINT HAPPY!!! jeez if ur tht bothered about the guys work he must have bene doing for AGES, and all of it for free, then either work on one urself or upgrade like the other part of the community. OK EVERYONE, stop complaining and listen up.

After freaking out about this myself I followed the instuctions and everything worked fine. I think one part is missed and that is you have to run the firmware installer.

When the instructions don't tell you is what exactly happens.

Download and extract all the files you need, such as the eboot.php (what ever firmware you need) and devhook.

Put the dh folder from devhook on the root of the memory stick. Drag or copy the psp folder to the root of the memorystick also. Copy the data.psar file to the root of the memory stick.

so you will have a directory structure like so

/DH

/PSP

/GAME

DEVHOOK

DEVHOOK%

DEV_INST

DEV_INST%

DATA.PSAR

Now that everything is installed you need to run the firmware installer program FIRST. What this does is copies the firmware information to the correct folders in the DH folder. When ever you are in emulation mode system calls and programs related to your firmware(web browser) are executed from the memory stick and not the real firmwares' memory location.

After you start the firmware installer you will see a lot of text telling you what it's doing, then you will have a choice to exit or copy some other files. Just exit.

Now run the devhook program, use the setting menu to do what you want, load umd, iso, what ever. select start. What happens now is the psp will reboot and load the updated firmware from the memory stick. What you now have is the EMULATED version of the firmware you selected, NOT the original 1.5. If you have the umd loaded already it will self load. Now you can play around like you have a 2.5 psp and get on the internet and whatnot.

To get back to 1.5 simply shut the psp down by hold the power switch for 7-10 seconds and then the thing boots up you are golden.

*Sidenote, because the original instrustion weren't very clear, and no one explained what was going on, I seriously though I upgraded my firmware, and was PISSED. The firmware installer needs to explain this when is starts so it doesn't confuse anyone. Anyway, so I ended up running the recently released downgrader, and all seemed fine, THANK GOD I DID NOT BRICK MY PSP. My wife would have been pissed that I would have had to buy another psp.

All of this is from a clean install, if you have devhook already installed, just delete the file and start over. After I downgraded from the fake firmware, I couldn't get devhook to load the emulated firmware untill I started from scratch. Now everything works good.

One thing I have not tried is to use the GTA exploit to run other programs, to scared to try :)
