Mathieulh finds PSP 3.96 firmware update in Hot Shots Golf 2 |

Mathieulh, one of the members of the M33 team, has discovered an interesting little bit of code in the Playstation Portable video game Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee 2. Apparently, the American UMD of the game sports a 3.96 update which isn't on any of Sony's servers.According to the changelog, "support for PLAYSTATION Network titles has been expanded." LAN.ST forums admin SilverSpring did a comparison with the 3.95 firmware and found it to be almost identical to the PSP FW 3.95:
Seems identical to 3.95, only sysmem.prx changed (grew in size by 68-Bytes). The other prxs just had a single byte change (version bumped up to 3.96). Even pops.prx is binary identical (same SHA1 hash) so not sure how PSN support had been expanded.
The current consensus regarding this update is that it is nothing more than a compatibility update to make the game run. Still, if the update does do more than this, we're confident that more information will be made available soon as it has piqued the interest of some of the best minds in the PSP community. As Mathieulh seems to be a bit busy for the moment, he does promise to look further into it soon.

I Knew it there would be 3.96 and maybe there will be 3.97 etc.
Whenever $ONY releases a new firmware with the last digit changed, it's only just a security patch. Not really worth it in the end.

Sony c'mon please release OFW 4.00.When sony wanna release? Sony keeping changing the last digit of the OFW. Maybe Sony don't have any ideas what to put in the 4.00 or maybe Sony have the FW but still testing it.
M33 is the name of the group, Dark_AleX is just the lead coder.
Sony release it when their release schedule says to +P stop complaining about this shÂite!
I just pick up this game day before yesterday and never play it yet. I love golf but not a whole lot. I try it now and I can confirm that Hot Shots Golf 2 does have a 3.96 sitting by the damn UMD icon. well guess I wait. odd I thought Sony give up a long time ago since we found the battery hack. LOL

I wonder what they'll do if they have one after 3.99 but before they release 4.00???
They patch the mother boards so you all ways want to get a first release console. They patch the batteries so you always gotta get the first series batteries. Trust and believe they wont stop until they realize what they're up against.

They'd probably add a digit, like 3.991. BTW Typo is newspost: "the 3.95 firmware and found it to be almost identical to the PSP FW 3.95" should be: "the 3.96 firmware and found it to be almost identical to the PSP FW 3.95"
i have hot shots golf 2 in america and I didn't have to upgrade from 3.90 M33-3
Ok, I do see it but it as an option, but it didn't force me to update my firmware. I'm still playing fine on 3.90
You didn't have to update because custom firmwares ignore the version requirements and let you boot the game.
Why dosent sony just make the jump to 4.0 now, instead of messin around with all these 3.95 and 3.96 etc. Just give us the features and we will be happy!
