CFW - Image 1

The much-awaited 5.50GEN-C custom firmware had its share of problems upon launch. There were reports of freezes, although they seemed to be dependent on the PSP model. PSPGEN's MaGiXieN has moved to address these issues as well as announce that work is proceeding on CFW 5.50GEN-D.

Here's what Google Translate spit out:

Firstly, the original version that was being posted was well prepared for this announcement and we had given 24 hours of additional testing to verify that everything worked well. This first release does not launch the protected games but all games 5.55 +. In the process, Yoshihiro out how to counter the protections we have decided to announce and release in the edit function. So this is where we fished for if everything worked in our tests, it is found that certain protections of our CFW have come to panic under certain conditions and also depending on the model of PSP. Moreover, to avoid (too much) delay the release, we dropped the baby without giving her a test period of time. Accept our apologies for this.

MaGiXieN also pointed out some errors that are "not attributable" to the CFW such as semi-bricks ("You had left a personalized theme and therefore it was enough to format the flash1 via Recovery menu") and actual full-on bricks ("The installer of 5.50GEN has no CFW our bug and can not be directly responsible for that.").

Last, but not least, is news that GENyUS and Yoshihiro are hard at work on the next revision, 5.50GEN-D. The release shouldn't take long and will be announced when everything has been checked and double checked. Stick around for further updates.

Thanks to jfscorreia for the tip!

M33 has problems, but seriously, when was the last time M33 drivers had problems THIS bad. Never, M33 and Dark Alex are the only thing people should support. Theres no reason not to anymore seeing as how 5.55+ games can now be patched to work with 5.00.

Also, if anyone mentions the time when M33 firmware would brick users PSP, that was because the user was stupid enough to download from that website.

Rickshaw has problems, but seriously, when was the last time a rickshaw had accidents THIS bad. Never, rickshaws and horses are the only things people should support. There's no reason not to anymore seeing as how cars can now be cut down to become rickshaws.

Also if anyone mentions the time when rickshaws would kill their passengers, that was because the riders were stupid enough to hire that driver.

» you should be able to

I don't reccomend updating to 5.550 genc because I screwed up my psp. To fix it I had to:

install hellcatz recovery flasher -> 5.00m33-6 then from there I updated to 5.50 genc. It is now working, but I would just wait till they release this one the 5.50 genD .

I don't even use GEN and I don't think they should apologize, it's all a free service. They act like they're getting something back. So the firmware had a few glitches, no biggie, they'll fix 'em.

Personally I have to stay on 5.00 m33 because of IRShell. The patches don't fix the multitasking or nethost, and I love features. Even so, way to go on the firmware updates guys.

» LOL!

Dude are you living under a rock. M33 has had problems and bugs thats why its M33[-6] meaning 6th version.......

The biggest bug was on 5.00 M33-5, it would not boot without a memory card or it would even brick itself. If that isn't a bug what is?

No one is perfect they can only test so much. But for the GEN didn't they notice that Remote play was dead, UMD's dont work and games before 6.00 and 5.55 don't work. As i said before rushed release.

» Laziness and School to the Rescue!

Man, good thing I had schoolwork to the brim yesterday, or I would've screwed up my PSP. Oh well, I am appreciative that they are addressing the issues and are releasing a firmware that'll (hopefully) "Allow me to Rock My Socks Off w/ More DLC @ the PSStore!!!"

Really, Sony why lock us out anyway? I mean, you're justified in your fear of piracy (especially w/ the PSPGo Exploit fiasco where everyone essentially implied that their pirates by demanding an exploit that they wouldn't use so... well, they can pirate! Am I the only one who uses CFW for ONLY backups and homebrew?) but locking us out accomplishes nothing but alienating its most loyal fans. Because: In order to get a game, you actually need to BUY Something!

Yes, I'm aware that piracy "could spread" without it, but blocking out all because a bunch of idiots pirate seems... a little harsh (BTW, how long you think until they block GEN-D for the same reason?).

What ?? Of course they should apologize. Releasing something that bricks other people's devices is a no-no.

PS: Both 3.95 GEN and 5.02 GEN randomly froze from time to time. I don't have time to try 5.50 GEN and I'll probably never will (until I have a damned good reason) because Yoshiro did a great job on Game Decrypter v4 and we can play them on 5.00 M33-6. They should focus on 6.10 instead of this - like they always did with newer custom firmware. Like 3.95 GEN when 3.90 M33-3 was the sh*t and 5.02 GEN/5.00 M33. But newer isn't always better. I learned that the hard way back when I used to work in IT...

i have a ds emulator for the psp in the works if your interested pls visit the forums for updates on the emulator..i need coders aswell as game testers..the emulator "NPsp" runs "most" games at 30-40fps,depending on your configuration..the touchscreen runs off the GPU making it faster and more responsive than having both run off the CPU..i still need to make a "good enough" pointer before i release beta1..i plan to release the first beta at the end of the week..if your interested in the source code..please email me lilace@gmail.com..for more info visit teh forums/developements

DSpider, so you're saying that the custom firmware others use, you know, that thing that enables them to play homebrew and newer games for free is basically a right and not a privilege? They're not forcing you to update, nor do you require to give anything back to them spending time to make it.

Also, read up on "bricks" and "semi-bricks" which is a very big difference because I've yet to read someone "bricks" their PSP, and for those that semi-bricked it was due to them trying to put a custom theme on their PSP.

What else did you mention... The previous CFW randomly.. froze?.. Oh no, what ever did you do about that? Did they refund your money you gave them? No? Shut up. The point is they don't have to give you anything. They were excited they were able to create something you never could and released it earlier with bugs, and you complain anyway even though you "don't have the time." Ha ha.

LastguitarHero its not like they can charge us because then they would be making a profit off of someone else s product and be promoting piracy which is illegal so basically its not like they can charge us i bet if they could most of them would so people stop saying that they do this for free which they do but because most of them not all but most would if they could they probably would charge us +P

» FIFA 2010 freezes

Yes FIFA 2010 freezes in manager mode, I'm not sure if other modes too but manager mode freezes so bad that I had to go back to GEN-B2 I hope they fix this also in GEN-D.

» @whiskey109

Actually, they're making money with advertising. The fact that members associate their name to the site pspgen draws an incredible audience to their website. I'm pretty sure the Devs work for free, not realizing the MediaGen company is making money on that.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing, the PSPGen site is a quality site and they probably deserve their success, but that's just to say that they're not doing all this entirely for free.

By "They", I mean PSPGen and the company behind them. I don't know about the devs involved in the firmware.

by RetroGamerX3 - 2009-10-19 22:12
» Plain nd Simple Truth....

Kool, I hope to see 5.50 GEN-D soon.

AND TO EVERYONE WHO KEEPS ARGUING ABOUT WHICH IS BETTER M33 or GEN.....

I personally think it shouldnt matter, both firmwares have done me good. Since I have 2 psps i run GEN on 1 and M33 on the other. I mean come on ppl, most of you started with Dark Alex's M33, so i mean learn to be a little more open minded and just be happy that teams of ppl actually took the time to give us anykind of CFW

So stop complaing and ENJOY IT....=)

by Auron21 - 2009-10-20 03:44
» too true /\

i agree, i mean its not as if you've paid for this or anything. and IF it has killed your PSP, im afraid thats the risk we ALL take when istalling a softmod (software modification, just incase)

i started with M33 and stuck with them untill the trouble wioth 5.50+ games came, then switched to GEN C, but no big problem to go back to M33

just used Hellcats tool (sorry i cant remember the full name)

by FORCE4121 - 2009-10-20 05:00
» not only cfw......

you can even brick your psp with ofw.....

i even heard rumors of ps3 bricks with ofw

by Bountyhunter53 - 2009-10-20 06:24
» @ Dspider

Why don't you make a CFW, its easy isn't it.....

Its a service which they are providing for free. You do NOT need to update to their firmware. You could stay on 5.00M33-6 and be a ignorant fool.

And secondly it was the user's fault for not turning their custom themes off. Thats why every other CFW installer checks if you have a theme on. If you do it kicks you.

If you read their installer readme.txt it clearly states ANY loss of anything isn't their fault and is your responsibility.

BTW they have to put ISO loading in or their CFW wouldn't take off and people would complain.

And also i think im being followed by a hater. Getting loads of sad faces.

by Auron21 - 2009-10-20 07:03
» not rumors, true!

they arent rumors at all, my cmate was upgrading his PS3 firmware and it went oka like normal, then it was dead.

it can happen to ANYTHING, if the device crashes halfway through upgrading, the chips only got a 50-50 mix of BOTH OFW's.

some motherboards for PC's have a twin bios chip to prevent EXACTLY this from happening.
