Improved 2.80 Downgrader released by Noobz! |
The Noobz team (with help from Mathieulh and Dark_Alex) has just announced and released an improved version of Dark_Alex's 2.80 downgrader with 2.80 HEN support as well! Previously, HEN was only usable on firmware 2.71 but the Noobz team has worked their magic and ported it to firmware 2.80. So, a downgrader and a homebrew enabler in one announcement, what a nice present!
Apparently, a lot of people have been bugging for a stable, secure, and easy downgrader for 2.80 firmware. Well, the Noobz team never ceases to impress us and has released just that!
Using the recent 2.80 downgrader and the generic downgrader from Dark_Alex, the team has been able to create the "best" 2.80 downgrader. The great part about this downgrader is the fact that it uses the original 1.50 eboot file in order to downgrade, which will decrease the hassle of obtaining the 1.50 dump files. For all those TA-082 and TA-086 users, this downgrader will still work on your PSPs.
The Noobz team has also bundled a new homebrew enabler for the 2.80 firmware, eventhough the last one was only on 2.71. This 2.80 HEN will allow users that are afraid of downgrader to execute homebrew on their 2.80 firmware (TA-082/86 supported). There's always a risk in downgrading if you do not follow the instructions, so please follow these instructions if you plan on downgrading -
- Install the HEN files, by following the details in the readme.txt file.
- Test that HEN is working fine, by running one of the bundled sample applications - e.g. the cube demo.
- If you have a TA-082 or TA-086 PSP, run the "TA082 IdStorage Changer", via HEN, to patch your registry before downgrading.
- Get a copy of the v1.5 upgrade EBOOT (e.g. from here) and copy it to the /psp/game/UPDATE/ folder on your memory stick, as UPDATE.PBP.
- Start the"PSP Update ver X.YZ" program via HEN, and follow the instructions.
- Congratulations, you now have a v1.5 PSP! :D

I just succesfully downgraded with these instructions and files from 2.8 to 1.5 on my TA-082. woohoo! It was nice and easy. This is what i've been waiting for. nice work!

I read everything, I even reformatted the stick and recopied everything to it. It still either freezes and shuts down or actually starts readint ehe memory stick then freezes -_-

You might have done nothing wrong, there is always a chance of bricking your psp with a downgrader.

Alright, the enabler finally loaded and I successfully downgraded my psp. I'm debating on whether I should up to a custom furnware...
I know one of the easy downgraders used some illegal files or whatnot, is this the same or is this 100% legal?

there will not be a 2.81 downgrader for a long time
that is what people said about all of the other firmwares. don't be discouraged Avyrex. just be patient and there will be something eventually. it is important that you don't upgrade in the mean time. the downgraders tend to come out in order of the firmwares. so you should be next in line if you just stay put.
on step 4 do u need to rename the EBOOT.PBP as UPDATE.PBP and what is the PSP Update ver X.YZ?
also I dont have a TA-082/086 psp so can I still downgrade?

This damn site isn't showing any of my comments! I'm trying to use this stupid thing, but in the rare case that HEN works, 1.5 eboot won't work! I've named it UPDATE.PBP and put it in UPDATE, which I put in GAME, but it just won't work! The readme says I have to convert it to .prx using PatchSFO, but qj and psphacks don't say anything like that! I've tried it the qj way, and it doesn't work, so now I'm gonna patch it. Thanks a lot qj.

My pc is buggy, so I re-booted it and voila! I got to see me make an *** of myself. Anyway, it won't read the update and says it's corrupted data, so I'm forced to go with csfreakno1's dg. Not that that's a bad thing, I just trust noobz more and wanted to do it their way.
First of all, all the homebrew i was using with xLoader is now not loading with HEN, do i need to do something to it now to get it to work?

i followed the instructions and renamed the eboot to UPDATE.PBP and when i try to run - I get a "corrupt" icon
-BUT when i dont rename I see the "1.5 update" - the demo test work fine and am stuck on the last step - thanks to any help in advance- =)

YES people it does work. I tried it and almost shat in my pants but I got it down to 1.5 from 2.8. I thought it was gonna be more difficult thats why I was so scared. Just remember to change to 13mb Eboot.PBP file to Update.PBP then it will work.

good 4 u 2.8s... i used to have 2.8 and i had kriek, then i bought thrillville and was forced to upgrade to 2.81. then when 3.01 came out i was like, what the hell? i cant run homebrew on my ta-082 2.81 anyways. so now i have 3.01, and im trying to wait patiently for an exploit.

wow.. lots of questions. I thought it was pretty straight forward. QJ provided all the links for the required files. Yes, it work for TA-082. It worked for me. Yes it works for 2.80. it worked for me. If your UPDATE.PBP says it's corrupted, redownload it from QJ. They posted a link right to it in the article. That's the one I used. Also, while installing these apps..
read the included README.txt's. They're very useful.
HEN will most likly freeze your PSP the first few times you run it. I ran it by going to PHOTO and pressing the right arrow. I had to try it 3 times before it worked. YOu can also check your System Setting for your firmware version. IF it's running, it will say 2.80 HEN. BUt I also suggest testing by going to your GAME meny and running the cube demo that was included in the 280HEN package.
once more.. read the readme.txt files included in each download before running/installing them. They'll tell you excatly what to do.
i dont know exactly where to put all of the files to get hen to work. sorry.
In the Homebrew Enabler installation, i copy and paste the PSP folder into my psp’s root folder. As i go in the HEN_280 folder via my psp’s photo viewer, my psp just freezes and turned off. I retry for like 20 times but its still the same thing. no blue nor red screens show up. ??? what am i doing wrong here?
...to use the IdStorage Changer app first though. Or your PSP will brick.
It's not that simple. They need to find a way to run the downgrader first.

yes, that sucks.. a friend of mine did the same thing but for 2.80 (downgraded some weeks ago by Ookms downgrader), appearantly it said he needed to upgrade on a note that came with the PSP..
2.00 and 2.80 are just as good as 1.50, but only after you downgraded it to 1.50
IF YOU DO EVERYTHING RIGHT AND CHECK IT A MILLION TIMES THAT EVERYTHING IS PERFECT DO YOU STILL HAVE A CHANCE TO BRICK YOUR PSP?????

stylez, just keep trying man. the TIFF exploit that runs HEN is not very stable. As long as you have the 280HEN files in your /psp/photo directory and can see the icon in the photo menu (it's a picture of a rooster or hen. :) ) then it's installed right. If i recall correctly, I think the readme says there must be a 280HEN folder in 2 places.
Tip: i formatted my memory stick before doing this downgrade. If anyone cares, it was a 2GB official Sony memstick Pro duo.
Good for 2.80 users a stable downgrader will decrease chances of bricking. I myself downgraded with the easy version of 0okm's downgrader and it worked. But this will be even better.
So do you put the HEN 'psp' file in your root and then put what is in the HEN 'photo' file into your psp's photo file? and same with the GAME file?
yes, you might drop the PSP on the floor so that the battery comes out in the middle of the downgrade... also there are risks of writing wrong to the flash, just like files can get wrong when downloading and such (not talking about the dg.. it has so many checks).. but I'd say it's as safe as will ever be (as safe or maybe even safer than an official upgrades).. I'm not sure though, but Dark_AleX's flashers usually are.
I succesfully dg my 2.80 PSP non-TA-082 to 1.50, and I'm HAPPY NOW! Just remember to copy the files to right directions and follow the instructions, and it will work. :))

Does the Easy downgrader work with Uk PSPs as the firmware in the downgrader says north america .
Does it affect the Region coding on UMD movies.
i have read all the comments but they dont seem to answer my questions.
Also a number of other posts i have seen about the downgrader says that you have to downgrade to 1.50 the upto 2.71 then use the 2.71 to 1.50 downgrader. is this true. as other sites have said the downgraded firmware is "DIRTY"

I think so. Double check that HEN is running by going to your "System Settings". It should say 2.80 HEN for your firmware version. Also test it out by running the cube demo that was in the HEN download package.

hey killamonjaro, what did you do wrong or did the dg just messed up while flashing?
can somebody help me, my psp runs in 2.80 HEN (ive checked it in system settings and ran the cube demo) but the 1.50 eboot is still "corrupted". im sure it's called UPDATE.PBP and is in psp-game-updat
to change background, view a photo, hit triangle button, select "set as wallpaper". there is also a setting in "themes" to enable wallpaper use. It's usually set to "on" by default. This however, is a basic function of all 2.6 and up psp's (maybe lower, i don't know). no hombrew is needed to do that.
i found that when I went to 303OEB, none of my apps in /PSP/GAME that i used with 2.8 worked. I can see them, but when i clicked them they said game could not be started. I'm assuming it's because they were patched with PatchSFO to work with 2.8. So, I will also assume I'll need the unpatch the eboot's to fix them. Also, if you put them into GAME150, i think they also need the accompanying %FOLDER to work properly which was not needed with the apps that worked for 2.8. For example, game 150 should look like so:
PSP/GAME150/APP1
PSP/GAME150/%APP1
The %FOLDER's are usually included with the original download under the 1.5 folder. That's my best guess at that. I could be complete wrong. :)

1. This DownGrader version could downgrade every mother-board model.
2. Download the 3 files which QJ gives you.
3. Dont worry if this version of DG is mentioned only for TA-082. (just dont do the steps for TA-082)
*Read everything twice, and check 5 times before DG'ing.
*If the HEN Tiff won't work , retry until it will - Because it will. (It took me 11 times until it worked !!!!)
*Pray for it to work.
I just tried this on my friends PSP - same problem a number of other people have commented on - I have not been able to get HEN280 to work. Most of the time, it tries to launch, but then freezes on a black screen, but sometimes it freezes on the photo viewer screen.
I ended up using the old 0okm 2.80->2.71 downgrade, that worked with no problems.
When i try to run HEN the memory stick light either flashes for about 5 seconds and then stops and nothing happens, or it is a steady light for about 10 seconds, and then psp turns off. i have tried it at least 25 times

now that i've downgraded and I have 1.50, how do I make any homebrew work.
I've seen somewhere that you need to upgrade to 2.00 and then downgrade back to 1.50 to make homebrew work.

GA: you can upgrade from 1.50 straight to 303OE-A. Again, read the readme files included in the 303OE-A download. You will need the official 1.50 update eboot that you used to dg with and you will also need the official 303 update eboot. You will need to rename them and put them somewhere. read the readme and it will tell you what to do. if DATA.DXAR is empty then that most likely means the oeupdatemaker program you ran didn't complete correctly. it could be because you were missing the required official 150 and 303 update eboots.
I want to downgrade from 2.60 then up to 3.03 OE-b, and this whole scene is a little confusing? Do I have to find a game that upgrades to 2.80, then use this, then upgrade?

iam pretty much confident that development in the new firmware exploit department is all but over seeing as how no one gives a flying F***! about us still stuck on 2.81and^^ i really wish someone would do something about this but it appears no one probably will for a long...... time or at all

I totally agree with Alexmod and Loco. I would be saying more than just "dang!". I mean, I was so pissed when my PSP's screen got scratched up. So stop renaming yourself person and stop trying to scare people.

To Corrupted Data:
You need to have both the 1.50 EBOOT.PBP file in the UPDATE folder as well as the copy of 1.50 named UPDATE.PBP otherwise it won't have anything to load and show as corrupted.
My problem now is, I was able to get HEN working but when I click on the 1.50 update, it says I already have 2.80 installed. If I go to System Info, it shows "2.80 HEN" so I don't understand what's wrong.

I've read the instructions step by step. I've put the files in the right area.
I followed atomic's comments about going to Photo and pressing the right arrow to initialize Hen, however it keeps on freezing still.
I must have tried at least 50 times already. I even re-formated the memory stick and copied the contents from MS_ROOT over again to the memory stick..but the same issue keeps occurring. Do I just keep on going and going?? Or are there any tricks that I am unaware of.

jeepers, I bricked my psp after I followed all the steps.
I just tried to downgrade my friends PSP with this - despite lots of tries, I couldn't get the hombrew enabler to run - it either hung on the photo screen, on on a black screen after booting. Unit was a TA-082, and the older 0okm downgrader worked fine.
Ok i was checking all Dark_Alex DG and i saw that there are the same files on almost same places . So the ? is can i mix everything on a single 32MS and work or not because i want my space from my small ms back for small emulators im gready in space isues

i used easy downgrader in the end.. HEN did not work, the gif was too unstable and caused my psp to reboot after i opened the pic.
but with the easydowngrader it worked !

For those of us who are having the issue with the UPDATE.PBP file not running because it's being viewed as "CORRUPTED DATA," I think I found a common link to all of us, by reading through these comments, so answer this question... Did you already have an UPDATE folder inside your GAME folder containing files already, or did you need to create the UPDATE folder before you copied the UPDATE.PBP file to it?

im not sure if it really makes a difference but try putting the UPDATE.BPB in the right location BEFORE you are going to enter the tiff

OK, I see what I did wrong, and I finally got this to work. I was unclear on the instructions, so I'm hopeing this helps someone else having the "Corrupted Data" issue.
I did not think I needed to download and use the file called "TA-082 EASY DOWNGRADER" as for some reason, I thought this was only needed if I had a newer motherboard. This files has the [UPDATE] folder you need to COPY over to your PSP/GAME folder, and NOT create the UPDATE directory yourself. It holds 5 files, and the actual downgrader is in this folder.
THEN, rename the 1.5 Eboot file to UPDATE.PBP and copy into your PSP/GAME/UPDATE folder, being careful NOT to replace the existing eboot.pbp file.
Here's a edited tutorial list to help visualize this...
1. Install the HEN files, by following the details in the readme.txt file.
2. Test that HEN is working fine, by running one of the bundled sample applications - e.g. the cube demo.
3. COPY ENTIRE [UPDATE] FOLDER CONTAINING ALL 5 FILES TO THE PSP/GAME DIRECTORY FROM THE TA-082 EASY DOWNGRADER FILE. THIS FILE HOLDS THE ACTUAL DOWNGRADER.
4. If you have a TA-082 or TA-086 PSP, run the "TA082 IdStorage Changer", via HEN, to patch your registry before downgrading.
5. Get a copy of the v1.5 upgrade EBOOT (e.g. from here) and copy it to the /psp/game/UPDATE/ folder on your memory stick, as UPDATE.PBP. DO NOT REPLACE THE EXISTING EBOOT.PBP FILE! CHANGE THE NAME OF THE 1.5 EBOOT TO UPDATE.PBP BEFORE MOVING THE FILE INTO THE PSP/GAME/UPDATE FOLDER.
6. Start the"PSP Update ver X.YZ" program via HEN, and follow the instructions.
7. Congratulations , you now have a v1.5 PSP!
This is how I got it to work, so I hope this helps someone else!
When we got the psp for my son it was great with the homebrew games.But after renting a game we had 2.80
firmware.With this downgrader we are back to 1.50.

This seemed easier. Downgraded from 2.80 to 1.50 successfully. There is a missing step, here it is. After step 7, go to photo then xloader (don't press X) press Triangle! Select slideshow. It will go to an error message. Press O. now you can go to step 8. Hope this helps.

I put it in the psp/game/update section and when i go to use it in the xmb, it says corrupted data. why would this happen? the hen-280 is booted up...

YES, finally got it to work. You need to dl the ta-082 folder and use that UPDATE folder instead of creating your own UPDATE folder. Thanks for all the help! I'll be enjoying my new 1.5 PSP.
i got easy downgrader, copyed all files, renamed eboot, but how does it istall?
the first time i installed the HEN files, everthing worked fine. the cube sample worked and i thought i was on my way... then when i copied the UPDATE folder into my psp/game directory, it quit working. when i try and load the cube sample, or any other sample, i get this message "The game could not be started (80020148)"
can same one explanemy if we can use same 1.5 and 2.80 firmware, like the 1.0 with elouder and xlouder (for 2.80). i now it´s a nooby question but i don´t understand please help me.

I have succesfully downgraded my psp (non TA-082) (with easy downgrader) from 2.8 tot 1.5 In the beginning i was to scared to brick my psp, so many times i quited looking for a downgrader. But yesterday i just gave it a go, bc otherwise my psp is always in the desk, i only have one game, wipe out, bored with it. First i downloaded this improved downgrader by noobz. I followed the steps.Try to load the HEN, but after 20 and more times my psp only crashed or rebooted. So i guess the "improved and so far best downgrader isnt that good". So i formatted the memory stick. Then i went back to a previos downgrader, i downloaded esy downgrader 2.8. I have tried this before but it didnt work, but it was my fault. I readed all the steps over and over, watched a VERY GOOD movie ,where you can see all you need to do for downgrading with easy downgrader. And it worked perfectly, i have a psp 3.03 OE-B now, download many torrents and they all work. Now it worked for me and i want to help everybody who needs help. Thanks to the developers, and thanks to Daremo for posting the correct method of using this. I had a 2.6 non TA-082, so I upgdated to 2.8, then used this to downgrade to a 1.5 it worked great.

where is the root of your memory stick?
just keep trying to run the hen, it will eventually work. make sure that you have the right hen 280 folders where they should be (one in the photo folder and one in /psp). you have to follow the instructions to a T. once you get to 1.5, it is really easy to upgrade to the 3.03 OE A/B which is way better than 1.5

i finally got hen to work. i researched a bit and used this guy's method:
"heres how what i did…. I go to Photo then press O then you will see HEN_280 folder, then i pressed start. then it goes all white and you can see the memory led light is lighting saying its busy. Then i let it run then after i guess 15mins of loading. i thought it was frozen again i remove the batt and place it back after 1 min turned it on… and tried again the same procedure after pressing start it turned into blue screen and it restarted itself. I was happy when i saw the blue screen… I turned it on again and tried running the Cube sample and Polyphonic sample by shrine and it all worked."

okay so I'm a clueless nooob and can't even get past the first step:
-Copy all contents inside MS_ROOT to the root of your memory stick
when exploring the psp, there is an MP_Root, no MS root. when I copy all the files int' the root of the memeory stick, the main folder that holds the folllowing folders, MP_ROOT, MUSIC, PICTURE, PSP, VIDEO,

Yes you do need to rename the eboot.pbp to update pbp
so I was able to get Hen to work, i've copied over the update file from the 2.8 downgrader, added the update.pbp, I can launch the x.yz application, I see and accept the risk message, then i recieve a error 80020148. any ideas? what files am I missing?

I love you Noobs Team for making this downgrader possible.I used the downgrader and it worked the Hen D program was a ***** because it took me about 20 tries to enable it but once I did I sucessfully downgraded for real.I can now play the games the I love against my friends.Including King of Fighters and Double Dragon.Please continue to beat Sony and live on the psp community.Thanks Noobz

It took me about two weeks of trying on a regular basis. Not sure what made it work suddenly but I kept trying and it paid off. I put some other pictures in the PHOTO folder (I only had HEN in there previously) and it worked shortly after that... could have been dumb luck though...
but i cant cause i cant find the psp update ver X.YZ thingy so im screwed..unless some1 helps a brotha out
