Ó

PSP firmware 5.55 has been spotted again, but this time it's not just in Japan. As shown in the YouTube vid below, the PSP version of G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra apparently comes with and requires 5.55 in order to be played.

This brings two questions to my mind: 1. Will Dark AleX finally release a new M33 OFW?, and 2. Is there anybody out there -- ANYBODY -- who wants to play this game?

» new M33

I hope there is a new M33 soon. The GEN FW just doesn't do it for me, and there is still no 1.5 add-on for it.

» GI Joe isn't the only game:

Armored Core 3 Portable, Shinseiki Evangelion: Battle Orchestra Portable, and Tales of VS. all require 5.55 too.

» Nooooo...

Soul Calibur too... -sigh- I doubt that there will be a cfw (M33, GEN) for a Sony update that is only for UMD at this time.

» Who Cares!

» uh...

I guess all upcoming games will have this feature, so good luck running them in your hacked psp, mate.

» Question...

If you bought the game (legally, of course) then dumped the ISO, and played the 5.55-update-required ISO, on a 5.0 M33-6 PSP, wouldn't you still be able to play the game since you're on CFW?

If not, how would you bypass that?

He said he's buying it you dumb noob.

ppl actually buy quality games to show support.

» And...

If he has a hacked psp, even if he owns it he won't be able to play it without reinstalling the OFW... I think that was all the person above was trying to say. If he already has an OFW psp, then he's fine anyway.

» Not necessarily, unfortunately.

Some games use new calls that the older firmwares don't have. I don't actually know much about it at all, but that was the problem with a few releases recently, I believe. Bypassing it probably requires a game hack anyway, so if you want to play the game, you might have to download the hacked version even if you own the original.

» hey noobsfire

If you're gonna insult someone, at least learn to read. BryanNitro said "Who Cares!", clearly dismissing the information as unimportant. He says he only cares about those two games, ignoring the fact that all new releases are going to come with this firmware, and are unplayable on a hacked psp.

I never implied pirating games or anything, you can't play them even if you own the UMD.

Now, if he means that he has official firmware, he's on the safe side, but his comment would make no sense.

» Official M33? LOL

I love how you guys have come to accept M33 as OFW. It must either really rival Sony's FW or is the only official CFW sponsored, rather supported by QJ. That's kinda funny lol. Would be nice to see DA back in the game though. Everytime I see my 5.00 M33-6 i sigh a bit in remembrance lol. DA is still a PSP legend and will always be THE bar for other programmers. Him, and the Noobz. I must tip my hat to Freeplay though as he's defnintely retained and earned his spot among the elite!
