Firmware v3.00 clocked higher then 222Mhz? |

Has Sony forgotten to mention something special about firmware 3.00? A discussion has been brewing in our PSP forums here at QJ, and although we wouldn't usually post assumptions, this discussion has pretty good reason to suggest that some games are running at a speed higher than 222Mhz on the new firmware 3.00. It all started with a forum user called Colombian Cartel (thanks for the tip!) who claimed that Metal Gear Acid and Metal Gear Acid 2 have been running a lot quicker since he upgraded to firmware 3.0, with the blinking effect on the game menu going much quicker than when he was on a lower firmware.
Of course, this is an isolated report from one user; until psp093 came a long testing his 1.50 firmware PSP playing Metal Gear Acid with a 3.00 PSP doing the same. His results backed up Colombian Cartel - that 3.0 did actually seem to run the game faster with the PSPs running side-by-side.
There are three explanations to this, and one of them is that both Colombian Cartel and psp093 are hallucinating. The other explanations are that either firmware 3.0 utilizes the processor speed of 222Mhz better and can run games faster, or that firmware 3.0 is clocking the processor to a speed above 222, for example 266Mhz.

I upgraded to Firmware 3.0 too and I have to say that I own GTA: Liberty City Stories and the game seems to load the textures quicker and I now barely see any framerate drop.
This was prolly their plan. Release it at 222MHz, when not many games can take advantage of it, but design it to go up to 333MHz. That way, battery life isn't as big an issue. Then, when games start coming out that can handle the juice, up the clock speed. No one is thinking about battery life anymore (except us), they just use the original battery specs. Rather clever...
of course they did it! or you though they would able to run the psx emulator flawless at 222mhz?
is an awesome reason to do a little bit of this...

I think they upped it to 266MHz. It makes sense. they wanna make developers be able to make better graphic games and also they want users to play the music visualization with minimal fps drops.

maybe this is just another fooler article that qj is making,like the gta:vcs article tha they said you have to upgrade to play gta:vcs,maybe sony paid again,this is so gay,all they want is that we upgrade to 3.00. besides,i can run games and stuff at 222mhz+...there are overclocking modules out there...
Sony might as well as barely any of us are even paying attention to battery life, especially veterans (like me) who had them since last year since it's already worn out. Then, if there are some complaints, release batteries with longer life at a REASONABLE price. If this happens, our games will look better and probably more games will be bought, etc.
Now my battery can run out of life faster!
Good news, now I don't have to avoid official firmwares and "hack" my PSP just to play games at a better framerate.

and now a comment more relevant to this thread: i did a little test by opening up my psp, the processor does heat up a bit more, as if it was clocked higher. i say it is, plus the battery actually does last about 20 minutes less than other firmwares.
i wanted to sell my psp so i can get something thats actually fun like a wii but she wont let me cuz "she paid for it".the psp looks great till u actually pick it up to play the games.
does anyone know how i can raise some money for a wii?

First of all im not a spoiled little 12 year old and i take that mow lawns thing offensively considering im mexican,lol jk.My mom works 2 jobs and leaves to the first one at 6 in the mourning and comes home at 10 pm to 11 pm and my dad dont live with us or support us.He got the lucky end of this.Anyways i had to work alot to get a psp and i was not happy at all with it.Now i can finally do homebrew and i do it and im not happy still.The wii is the most affordable console i can get and thats what im aiming for.

I think he's lying if I were him I wouldn't be around the internet looking for help on how to get rid of a PSP to get a Wii because his mom wont let him do that. Obviously he's lying. the PSP over any of the next gen consoles myself, but thats just because I'm out and about all of the time. You can have plenty of fun with the psp if you buy the right games. I have a vast game library and I am happy with every game I own.

I to have noticed a significant change in how GTA VCS is running. It seems to run quicker and more fluid like. Not as many stutters either.
I havnt really noticed any difference. I will check next time i play GTA VCS

If firmware 3.0 does in fact run at a higher clock speed than 2.81 and below, the best way to find out would be to measure the battery life (both PSPs using new batteries) with both PSPs playing the same game.
I just popped in GTA:LCS and I must say, the framerate looks much smoother than it used to be... and no I have not been drinking or using any type of drug.
i know it runs faster
plus the connection way better
VCS deffo has less slowdown during big fights such as when you get aloada cops on you!

i haven't noticed a diff in SOCOM FTB (1) both online and offline. i have 3.00 TA-082. although i should probably try Battlefront II and Twisted Metal. LocoRoco's already fast so theres no diff for it. wireless internet hasn;t changed for me.
i got a 3.00 psp and whenever i try to download something on my psp from the web browser it seem to take 5 times as long to download. has any 1 eles had this problem

well have you been noticing the homebrews there was one out that overclocks the cpu and sony got the idea from them and they thought well **** why dont we make a profit on battery sales

well this is logic, that would allow some ps1 games and music visualisations, even the remote play thing,
I think there are some games that clock up the psp during gameplay but return it to normal when returns to xmb, then the 3.00 thing could be a general clockspeed addition...
Keep working on that Wii then. You say your not 12, so maybe you can get some money from a job.
you mine as well...seeing as 3.01 may become cracked very soon ( i hope ) unless 2.8 runs homebrew, which i dont think 2.8 or 2.81 runs homebrew, just update to 3.01 and enjoy th ecrapy visualizations! lol, trust me im an idiot i just bought me psp on friday (originally 2.6x) then updated like an idiot to 3.01...
