Firmware 3.03 - Download + Devhook details

UPDATE: Well unfortunately, the problem is a bit bigger than what was originally thought. While the keys for most modules are unchanged, it seems that the keys for the loadcode and loadexec modules have been changed, plus they have been tagged differently. While many of the modules are decrypted, the problem is that a lot more modules are left un-decrypted, which means that Devhook emulation is currently not possible.

At this point, I won't speculate about when it will get decrypted. Let's just hope for the best! Also, thanks to Mathieulh for clearing up the confusion.

Firmware update 3.03Yes, the latest firmware for the PSP is out! But just like the last few updates, this one offers nothing great unless you're lucky enough to have a PS3 with you. Here's the single update which is listed on Sony's official site:
Don't worry though, we do have something to be excited about. I talked to my friend Birdman a while ago who gave the news that even though it's currently unusable with the latest Devhook, the problem is quite minor. It seems that Sony hasn't changed the decryption keys, which means that a lot of stuff gets decrypted. The only problem is that they seem to have changed the PSAR layout which means that psardumper gets confused while decrypting.

Obviously, this means that psardumper can easily be modded to check for a different layout when decrypting this firmware. And since it's open source and well maintained, we should be expecting a modded version soon. Anyways, even though most of you know this, let's just make it clear, shall we?

This firmware is currently non-homebrew-able. Please don't upgrade with the hope of it being cracked anytime soon.

Now that we have that out of the way, here's the download for firmware 3.03.

Download: [PSP Firmware 3.03]

why do you have to change that PSAR thingy we want homebrew not homebrew less PSPs i dont like nor do i hate you.BUT NOW I HATE YOU you keep acting like you are the best why dont you just make a FINAL release which is uncrackable?

by Chainsaw - 2006-12-19 19:01
» What ???

I don't understand Sony. No homebrew on PSP, often new firmware to block everything. But on PS3 they allow other operating systems that make homebrew and a lot more possible. PSP:Everything forbidden and blocked... PS3: Everything allowed ?

» and again

another update, another fairly pointless feature.

Sony, hurry up and give us psone downloads from the psp. not all of us can afford your behemoth. hell it isnt even out in aus yet...

» 4.0???

Sony might as well change it to firmware 4.0. If I was a coder I would mod the PSAR dumper butt nope I'm not. Good luck to the people modding that dumper so we can use it with devhook.

On PS3, homebrew can not result in the use of pirated PS3 games. On PSP it can, and is being used for that. Maybe when devhook/custom firmware stops including an ISO loader it'll have less resistance

by sony crapping on us - 2006-12-19 19:36
» all sony are doing is craping on us

sony really knows how to crap on there customers,

the first thing they should done is made all the ps1 games download able to the psp and not having it like it is now which is totaly unfare to it's world wide coustomers, the ps3 won't even be out in the UK until march at least and even then there won't be enoght to go round so most of the psp owners will still not be able to use the ps1 games only the lucky ones with ps3, so sony can now stuff the ps3 I just got a wii instead your loss sony

So Sony is going to release a firmware update everytime they add more PS1 titles to download? That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. I don't want to have to spend 5 minutes upgrading my firmware every week.

» PRXs

it seems they changed the encryption in loadexec.prx, sysmem.prx, and reboot.bin.

I think they'll eventually have a dump/decrypt-proof FW. and they'll keep making games for higher and higher FWs, and they'll keep making games not bootable on DevHook. and then they have won.

All Sony's customers know how to do is crap on Sony actually! The first thing the PSP communit would do if they allowed downloads without the PS3 would be to pirate the PS1 titles.

» so where...

so where is your ps1 emulator? where is your ps1 emulator that happens to be perfect in one version and never needs updates? so where in fact is any emulator ever made that never required incremental updates? you are really quite clueless about how software development works. would you prefer everyone was made to wait until december 2007 until the emulator is 110% beyond a doubt perfect because poor little you gets offended by updates?

» Same old Sony...

Instead of getting new customers to their PSP system or even encourage them to get one nah.... they just love to restrict it as much as they can so but then find it a shock when people are buying XBox360 & the Wii.

To tell ya the truth i'm sick of Sony, I've been a fan of theirs since the PS1, PS2 and now the PSP (including digital cameras and recorders) but with their new system the PS3 which will be released in the UK in March (which i think there will be a shortage or a delay) will cost about £400+ for 20GB and £600+ for 60GB... sorry but that's just way too much man ***** i ain't rich!

If that weren't bad enough we've also got to content with more updates on another system... black mailing peeps to get a PS3 just to play PS1 games on the PSP... Sorry Sony i think Xbox360 will do me including a Wii as well (if i can get hold of one lol).

I upgraded to 3.03 and now I can't play my DevHook. What happened?!!??!!11!?

NOT! But it could happen to some noobs... we've all seen it. So here's an idea.

How about this site stops posting the links to the actual download. Just state that it's in the download section. After all, if someone needs to get it for DevHook or something else they'll have to dig for it. At least it won't be readily available for the "click-happy" noobs to update to prior to understanding what it does in the first place... yeah, like that never happens.

So, QJ, stop posting the download links for it... just state that you can "Get it in the downloads section".

I bought this little bundle of joy with my own hard-earned money. It belongs to me. I will use it for WHATEVER I WANT TO. And Sony can suck it!!!!

Meanwhile, they're lingering above us saying, "wouldn't you like to play the newest games?" Of course, who wouldn't? But WHY lock out the old games, and the homebrew that everyone has worked so hard to perfect?

Now I'm on a possible-brick suicide mission. I'm 2.81 only until I beat Sonic Rivals... After that, it's homebrew or brick!! I don't care anymore. I won't play along with Sony's retarded crap...

Oh... and whoever is first post or second post is completely IRRELEVANT!!! I can't stand you!!! Stop wasting valuable webspace to proclaim "I posted first! he he! I'm a dumb little girl!!" just go play with your barbie dolls and let the grown-ups talk... geez.

We wont see games implement 3.03 for another month or so, maybe even longer, so everyone can relax when it comes to games not working with Devhook. Im running Devhook with 3.01 emu and it works great. I want to give a big shout out to all devs working on a solution around the minor problems with 3.03. I hope to see a PSAR dumper soon that works. There's so much piracy on the PSP, selling homebrew-allowing PSPs is costing them a lot of money - they expect to lose some money on selling the actual PSP units, but make up for that with the game sales. Homebrew apps, along with pirated PSP games are lowering PSP Game sales. Sony doesn't mind PS3 having homebrew cuz PS3 games cannot be pirated (at least not yet and even if they were, it would take like weeks to download a full PS3 game) and crappy homebrew games aren't going to really interfere with the PS3's game sales.

the problem isn't the hombrews... sony like that we have it, and sony can love to put all emulators... they don't care of that... what the problem is and what really cares to sony are the isos... that makes that depelopers don't make a decent games to the psp... just ports and some other fun games but nothing that let u buy a psp... maybe tekken and metal gear ops... but really... what else? for now... I use my psp for the location free and watch movies... no umd bye the way... if just the psp had a video out I will buy the umds... don't have to buy the dvd version some... at home and on the go...

by huge - 2006-12-20 11:02

iso's and the lack of people buying games is exactly what kills sony and the psp (not literally kills them ...). its just like the movies, who's going to go buy the movie when they can just copy it from their pc for the cost of one program(if they buy even that much) and the time it takes to convert. I for one understand why sony isn't happy with homebrew, but that isnt going to change things, because the people are happy. maybe if sony started offering iso's of psp games (through non p2p trap methods) and actually tried to make money off it instead of finding people to sue, they might turn a profit and work things to their advantage.

» Oh Geez!

[ The PLAYSTATION Network] Titles which can be played from the PSN have been increased.

Does that mean I don't need a PS3 to download my PS1 games?

HOW IN THE F**K did you conclude that "Titles which can be played from the PSN HAVE BEEN INCREASED" really means that you dont need a PS3 to download PS1 games? I seriously question how these people are able to make it alive day to day with their seriously flawed mental capability, as shown through the above diahrea of a comment.

And to all of you bashing ISO's, shut your as*es up!!! Lots of ISO users who have a conscience use them so they can dump the UMD's they own onto their memory card, so as to carry a few games with them, instead of swapping the UMD when they need a change. So, I for one do NOT want to see Devhook lose its ISO capability, because the sheer convenience of having my whole library stored on my memory card is too much of a luxury just to deter others from obtaining their games in a more shady manor.

And for those bashing emulators, again, put a cork in it!! Quite frankly, i dont see a means of obtaining a copy of 10 yard fight anymore, except for paying over 100 dollars to get a vintage NES collection from ebay, then be forced to play it on an old used NES obtained from that auction, while realizing the reason i dont play NES anymore as im blowing into the cartridge, cleaning the connections, and hitting it just to get it going!!! I will download old nes games, and will stop, when Nintendo, Sega, etc. take the initiative and allow the purchase of those games that they control for a price that is REASONABLE and which doesnt require me to purchase a Wii, which I would rather sh*t out a cinder block then purchase that novelty infused fisher price toy.

"the keys for the loadcode and loadexec modules have been changed" This is no problem. I will make a exec program tonight that fowards the source code from the psar and pbp files. After it is done with this the automatic reconfigure adjustment file will automatically change the tags by setting up a host and tricking the files to think that it is being run by the administrator so that it will not be needed.

» an easy solution

sony and developers should drop the over inflated price of games and umd's to $5. That would encourage people to buy UMDs. Rather they are ripping people off with the ridiculous pricing. Most of the time you end up with a sh1t game that you only play once anyway. People that download ISOs know this and it is cheaper to download the game to try it out first as 90% of the PSP games are *****.

» IM JUST SAYIN YO

On PS3, homebrew can not result in the use of pirated PS3 games. On PSP it can, and is being used for that. Maybe when devhook/custom firmware stops including an ISO loader it'll have less resistance

thats pretty rich bull***** right there dude! I MEAN WE did GO THAT ROUTE FROM 1.5-2.6 MOST EVERYONE AS A whole WITH ELOADER EXPLOITS N SUCH.....BUT IF SOMY SIMPLY DOES NOT CARE ABOUT ALL ITS USERS or TRUST US....AND PATRINIZES OUR IMPORTANTS AS THE GAMMERS USING THE MACHINE ....THEN WHAT CHOICE IS THERE THAN TO DO WHAT ANYONE WHO PAID A TON FOR THERE PSP'S DO... GET A FAT LOT OF EMULATORS AND HOMEBREW BECAUSE SONY OFFERS NON-FEATURE RICH OPERATING SYSTYEMS AND TAKES POLLS ON " WHAT THEY WILL REMOVE" (ASK BETA TESTERTS FORTHE NEW DAXTER GAME :( ) ITS THE FACT THAT SONY WANTS TOO OFFER LESS AND EXPECTS TO COMPETE WITH THE NDS AND IPOD! WELL YOU KNOW IF IT WERE USING ITS FULL POTENTIAL EVERYWHERE NOT JUST FOR HOMEBREWERS IT WOULD BE A MEDIA KILLER AND ALTHOUGH WE SEEM LIKE MANY WE ARE FEW IN COMPARISON TO THE MILLION PSP'S SOLD WORLD WIDE EVEN COMBINING OUR NUMBERS.....HOMEBREW IS SMALL SCALE COMPARISON TO NON HOMEBREW NON FEATURE RICH PSP'S ....WITHOUT HOMEBREW MY PSP GETS OLD FAST EVEN WITH REAL PSP GAMES :( ITS NOTHING COMPARED TO PLAYING A HOMEBREW PS1 AND FF7-9

» your a prick

gettin a 360 and a wii will cost as much as just getting a ps3 and they are both crap in comparison to the ps3. I wish you'd all stop moaning sony are just protecting their sales of games. If they allow homebrew people use iso's and don't buy games sony make no money, go bankrupt and then they will be no psp or ps3 and no games for them either !!!

I wish there was some way to download the network games on the PC. Then I'd be able to see if they worked on 3.03.

I think you should ALL SHUT UP - dear god... Yes we all hate sony... we dont need to hear it three million times on every frikkin forum. At least talk about somit useful so the "n00bs" can learn instead of *****in like petty school cows and make the homebrew community somit worthwhile - those who hate homebrew, its not all about pirating so get over ya sel! An those of you who go on about the n00bs being stoopid... i aint heard any of you say somit remotely helpful - pretty amateurish... don ya think? Jus appreciate what peolpe are doing in their free time to make our PSP's better, an stop demanding they bring out this an that - THEY are the ones who know what theyre doing - so leave of dumbasses.

» devhook an emulators

devhook emulates (or runs) firmware over your existing firmware so you can use for example firmware 3.03 temporarily so you can play UMD games that require that firware while keeping firmware 1.5 for homebrew games or software etc. Emulators run homebrew games - for example if you want an n64 game on your psp you will need an n64 emulator.

Downgraders will downgrade your firmware if you "accidentally" upgraded to a firmware not capable of certain homebrews or functions of a lower firmware - downgrading is difficult - upgrade to a brand new firmware and our gonna b stuck with it for quite a loong time until a donwgrader surfaces. Im not sure of the average time scale but you would be looking at months, easily. These are the basics... obviously it goes a lot deeper - but with the basics you shouldnt go wrong and screw up home brew capabilities for a months.

» Can't wait

I updated to 3.00 in hopes that there will be a crack soon, I can't wait so I can try DevHook out, I got my PSP pre-owned and the previous owner already updated to 2.82 when I got it so I couldn't do anything, I love PSP HB Personally and hope that some dev cracks it soon! I want PSP Homebrew so I can load DevHook and some homebrew like Psix or 3.01-OE. Currently I'm bored with my PSP because it only reads UMDs half the time

» games for firmware of 3.03

hey you guys should make games for the firmnware of 3.03 because it is supid that if you have a pspand you cant download the right firmware because it wont work.

i think you guys should create a game like fable for psp and finsh the game final fantasy 7 for psp and release it.and make more games like fable because fable is awesome and i want to play it but i dont have a x-box or ps2 the only thing i have is the psp and there should be a downgrade for every firmware.
