All the news just keeps pouring in! A little while after our original post about the PS3's online network, one of our dedicated readers Rami was kind enough to translate all the Japanese text on the PlayStation online network for us! While the gist of his translation was about the capability of the PS3 online network, there was a small bit of info there which will be great news for our PSP readers too! If you're interested, here's the full post with all the juicy bits left in!
The thing which PSP owners should know is that right now, you will need a PS3 to enjoy PS1 games on your PSP. But if we recall correctly, Sony have announced that it will be possible to buy PS1 games right off your own PSP, or maybe even your PC. We believe it's only a matter of time before Sony get around to doing that.
For now, here's what you'll see in the PLAYSTATION store on your PS3 with regards to the PSP.

Frankly, the need for PSP firmware 3.0 is sorely being felt. And I think I'm gonna backtrack on my speculation when I said that 3.0 won't have PS1 emulation. It does seem that 3.0 will have PS1 emulation. Secondly, for all you lucky guys with their PS3s, you can start downloading the games now so that come 3.0 launch day, you will already have the games ready for transfer to your PSP.
And looking at the insane amount of hype building up with regards to the PS3, we're sure that there's lots more PS3-PSP interconnectivity which we haven't even seen yet. And don't you worry, because we will be getting our PS3 soon; there's no need to go anywhere else for your PS3/PSP news! And finally, a big thanks to our loyal reader MGSROCKS1/Rami for translating the juicy bits; we love ya!

Sony is forgetting one thing: They haven't stopped us yet. I bet the games will be able to be pirated, just like UMD ISO images, and the emulator will be decrypted from the firmware somehow or Booster will come back with a mind-blowing Devhook :D Just my two cents :)
Think I'll wait for a homebrew emulator to come up to speed or for someone to hack the 3.0 firmware/official emulator.
Devhook for 3.0 ftw! :P Hopefully their emulation will give us a pretty nice insight into homebrew PS1 emulators out there. Hopefully they will also have a good selection of games out there, mostly/hopefully the FF series. IMO I will ditch homebrew apps if i have to in order to play FF7, 8, and 9. ^^ Can't wait.

This isn't really news! I've known for ages that 3.00 will technically have nothing to do with the PS games, as they're not technically emulated. They work exactly the same as a demo, except with encryption for different firmwares. It also looks like us Europeans, despite not getting a PS3 until March at the earliest, we still will be able to get PS games through the European PSP Downloads Store.

IMHO, you won't read that you don't need a PS3 to play PS1 game on the PSP, in THE PS3 Website :D They want you to buy PS3 with that Website, so they won't say that you won't need it for that ;)

a PS2 Emulator is kinda impossible... the PSP's Processor isn't powerful enough,,, PS2 needs at least 400mhz... psp Has 300mhz.... so yeah.. seee why now..

i say that this will most likely be in an eboot.pbp form for the emulator, so all we need is one person to upgrade, copy the file for us then us pbp unpacker to chang it from 3.0 - 2.8 or 2.71 or what ever
ok so if sony is going to sell there ps1 emulators I want to know three things one how much is it going to cost two will I need a ps3 to download and three is it even going to be comparable to the wii and its downloading of old games that are fun
that the games would cost $5 or less, but we'll have to see if that sticks. As for sharing them, probably not (as it would help cut down piracy).

Are you messed up in the head? Try going back into the early HomeBrew scene and you will see just how difficult it is to transfer at the least, 80-90 Mbs of memory with a PSP, *****, most PCs have trouble with that. Please think before you post, people

@Howmuch: We'll probably be able to download the games through a computer, so I don't think storage is that much of a problem. Maybe games with multiple discs will be offered in as many files as discs, though that seems unlikely.

Kindof an off the wall thing but......... I upgraded my PSP to 2.71 SE-B, it worked. I fixed the ISO folder thing but.... I still cant run any homebrew except for a font hacker(which doesnt work after i reboot the PSP)... also i cant run any of the downgraders, unless theres one that is made for this .... somebody plz help me send an email to Mrbobo115@gmail.com

as much as i hate to admit defeat, i started packing up my psp, games and accessories. it seemed the end was looming but with this emu plus some of the ridiculously awesome games stated for release on umd, not to mention the psp-ps3 interface, sony may have turned the tables for the seemingly doomed little handheld. with ps1 roms like silent bomber, arc the lad, tekken and resident evil directors cut, and knockout hits like oblivion slated for release on psp i for one will be dusing off my logitec playgear case and white sony headphone. whos with me?

For one you can backup your existing PS1 games into ISOs and yes everybody is gonna buy them for the emulator. No one owns every single PS1 game ever made.
Love them or hate them, you guys are interested in what Sony is doing for the PSP. If you think they're tyrants, then why stoop to their level and hack something they made for piracy. You also making yourself a tyrant. This is business, if we want an none-upgradable ps1emu, let someone make it (though it seems not very successful) this is what homebrew is about. More and more people are refusing to play a legitimate role with Sony and are relying on pirates/hackers in order to play free games that are made by professional developers. im using my free features that sony threw in, if they accedently decided to throw iso support into 1.50 im not one to complain, ill gladly use that feature.
Is it me or do almost all those games lack appeal? I don't know about you guys but I expected to be able to play Metal Gear Solid or Final Fantasy VII, not Arc the Lad! If these are the only games Sony can offer us, 3.0 may not be the frimware to make homebrewers upgrade.
