In the wake of the recent PSX-P emulator release, Kando has been running around like a chicken in an IRC channel, uncovering (and confirming) some new information. This new information comes a few days after Fanjita's new eLoader (v0.995) and xLoader, and you guessed it, it uses the new eLoader to accomplish its feat! This feat is none other than the writing to Flash0 on your PSP. As of right now, custom gameboots have been flashed to a 2.80 PSP using xLoader (custom gameboots are illegally made, so please do not distribute them here).
Kando used a certain program (which we will not reveal for the safety of our readers, bricking is highly possible) to read and write files to the Flash0 on his PSP! With flash0 access, the first thing that was tested was the gameboots, and it succeeded without any hiccups! You can watch a video of the custom gameboot below -
So, now that we have this acccess, what can we do? With flash0 access, a user can create, and use custom gameboots, fonts, backgrounds and remove the signature wavy-thing on the PSP's XMB. As I am writing this article, several users (Freeplay, Jordan, Kando, NOPx86, vb_master, etc) are all discussing this new discovery and what they can potentially accomplish.

Great news though, faster than I expected.
For the people that may read this keep in mind how long it actually takes to create a downgrader so please don't go around forums asking millions of questions... and be safe hacking into your 2.8 psp.

Anyways, back on topic, hopefully they come out with some more new things in the homebrew scene as the scene is pretty dead/slow right now, we need something to spark it up. Hopefully they find something out for 2.82 too since my uncle upgraded to it without knowing about what a 1.5 can do lol.
what can we do? a downdater would be first of course, or atleast devhook but boosters got that covered. but ya great job guys, hope you do some great things with this.

I think it is pspfiler or even uOrganizer (spelling). I don't know, that doesn't really matter. If they put the warning up and no program, i think they really mean that it is dangerous. Also, downgraders take time peoples. Granted Dark_Alex is fast, don't pressure and be happy since it is potentially your fault for upgrading.
Happy days for those who had the patience to wait. Now I'm going to point and laugh at those who upgraded, laugh with me Lolzorz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
its kind of pointless anyway because the ps1 emulator will come on 2.82 or 2.83 firmware not 2.8 anyway, also 2.8 games work fine on devhook it sjust the 2.81 and 2.82 stuff that doesnt.
just a reminder that ALL flash0 editing is dangerous but yeah! downgrade here we come!

well since Flashing has caused alot of PSP bricking ... i only Flash my PSP with the 2.71SE-B'' if you have 2.80... i wouldn't try it... you will be really risking your PSP ..... just wait for a development in this sort of thing.... so yeah.... but this is great to know there is flashing on 2.80... well yeah.. fyi, conclusion: there is no kernal access at the moment. there is simply read/write/delete access for all items in flash0. files CANNOT be over-written, but can be deleted and then replaced. you CANNOT use custom prx's or edit any config files. again, there is NO kernal access. the IPL is still off limits, which means no downgrader AS OF YET. also means no reverse devhook as of yet. but hey, cheers all, one step at a time =) -kando

why are all you 2.8 users laughing at people who upgraded to 2.81 or 2.82 because they have no flash access the fact to the matter is you were still dumb enough to upgrade to 2.8 when it came out and lose all your homebrew if you 2.8 users were really clever you wouldnt have upgraded to 2.8 and would be on 1.5 or 2.71 se like most of us right now anyway thats my bit said hopefully will see more progress soon on homebrew for 2.8+ users

Most people have 2.8 because they got a new psp with it already on the motherboard, and those who upgraded to 2.8 were smart enough not to keep going, but some idiots upgraded to 2.81/2.82 or did it by mistake OR did it for religeous beliefs (come on, i know you freaks are out there. We can NOT make a downgrader using this. We need access to the IPL, which we don't have.

I find this weird though. Don't we need Kernal access to do anything with the PSP's flash memory? I Thought we didn't have any Kernal access on the 2.8
I'm in two minds about this, I mean it should essentially open doors to a downgrader and this leads to my point. I mean if a downgrader is made it will be a big thing in the PSP scene right? But how many downgraders have to be made before people stop upgrading beond the downgrade limit? I mean say a 2.80 downgrader does come out...we still gonna be getting people mithering for a 2.81 or 2.82 downgrader, I mean it's their own stupid fault for upgrading to far when they knew full well about the scene. People at 2.81 or 2.82 should stay where they are now and not upgrade to any future firmwares, because at the end of the day this prooves that a downgrader will always come eventually, but they higher your firmware, the longer you have to wait - havn't you figured this out yet?

Good finaly some good news for 2.8!!!
I learnd my lesson for updating from 2.6 to 2.80, I waited, and waited and it was a long time of waiting, but finaly i got my reward (eLoader/xLoader) for patience, and now i can laugh and at the same time feel sorry for the people that updated.
Well i'm on 2.80 and dont think that people that updated to 2.8x dont deserve a DG coz I found out of homebrew,... after i updated my 2.60 to 2.80.
I updated to 2.80 and saw that was a dumb choice, but I stil hope that 2.8x users will be able to have homebrew on their psp's, than almost everyone will be happy, ... Well SONY wont be happy but .... SONY and the stupid updates that patch exploits!

I have 2.80 and i saw that then wen to PSP-hacks and saw that 2.80 users not can have custome font! and now i have custome font! and looks really cool. just don't do the button swap, i almost bricked and i had to have my friend help uninstall.

I found out about Homebrew at 2.6. I Started playing it and liked it. Then people were saying that the next vershion was coming out and it had flash. People were then saying that GTA was a bug in the game itself even Fanjita thought so he told me on IRC that Updating would be a risk but i was so exitced I took a chance by updating finding flash on psp sucked. and tryed my GTA and it didnt work Of course this was at midnight I was so exitced so then i had 2.7 nothing... 2.71 nothing... 2.8 then i was about to update to 2.81 and was like hmmmm Checked QJ and it said libtiff was found for frimwares 2.01-2.8 . I stayed at 2.8 and now here i am with 2.8 hoping for a downgrader.

2.8 se ? mwahahaha never had 2.8 and i dont think i ever will. still bugs meh having 2.71 but if d_a can make it possible id def check it out if the same features still work. waiting on dax for se and possibly make it able to play movie clips thatd be awes0me. when i saw connectivity for the psp i thought of hacking checked it out when i was at 2.01 bumped up to 2.6 then down to 1.5 couldnt figure it out went back to 2.01 for the fanjita gta hack re checked it out figured out games needed a dummy pbp and have been loving gaming since. realllllly cant wait till 64 emukation is full. games with auto save can be saved and sound speed aint a big concern since i can find speed roms. man i have been loving my psp experience and soon u 2,8ers will also. hmm wonder why 2.8 and 2,81 are so different ill do a little research

I bought a PSP off a mate. It was on 2.6 firmware, but the day before i picked it up, he upgraded (foolishly thinking he was doing me a favour) to 2.81 :( didnt realize till i got home :( so annoying! im only 0.01 versions off from being able to play GBA and SNES games on my PSP :(
Wouldn't it be possible to patch the version information in flash0 (say from 2.80 to 2.50) and then start an official unpatched updater per swaptrick from UMD or MS? I managed to start updater 2.60 before, but when I hit "Start", it noticed my firmware is already 2.80 - so if that info is manipulated in flash0, that would work, right? BTW. I started GTA:VCS updater 2.82 and switched the UMD at the Gamebootscreen to GTA:LCS (new version) with updater 2.60

Hey some people upgraded to 2.81 or 2.82 before they even knew about homebrew! Saying they don't deserve a downgrader and you 2.80's do is selfish. Luckily, I have 2.71 SE-B3 ;). I had GTA and 2.60 during the whole "GTA Exploit" but homebrew didn't sound that great and I wanted flash games so I updated to 2.70 and had fun with flash games for a while, then I updated to 2.71 for some demos... when 2.80 came out, I was never thinking about getting homebrew cuz it still didn't sound so great and I would've upgraded to 2.80... if I wasn't so lazy! Praise my laziness!

everyone has thier reasons for updating, lets praise the good work of others for thier great work on hopefully getting us a downgrader or homebrew on 2.8 its been succecefully done on the ones below so im sure it will happen on 2.8, i made the mistake of updating to 2.8 right before 2.7 dg came out and i too regret it so thanks to those trying to make a dg or homebrew possible
I run a ISO... edit line 348 of gamebootx.zyf to "boot .iso 1.20 game" Then reset ur psp.. it gives u an error.. press L+R and edit flash.010 ... reboot enter flash1, edit umdaccess.xiv, line 247 to "boot eboot 2x1". Convert ur ISO to a EBOOT using SNFConverter 2.95 load it up wit eLoader and done! Easy as pie...

Whu don't u guys purchase a Modchip for ur psp ? aka Undiluted Platinum... that way you'll have 2 flash mems in ur psp.. the UP could be used for all homebrews (firmware 1.5 and devhook) and use ur original psp Flash for the normal updates like 3.00 fw... This way u could play the latest games through ur orig flash and home brew via UP...

guys why need to downgrade if the devolpers are working on homebrews that work on 2.8 same as the 1.5 ? it is easy to use and way faster but i still wish that i didnt upgraded it to 2.8 from 2.7 patiance is the key in this ******* life so have some like i did and get rewarded in the near ******* future btw what is a TA-082 ?????
Ta-082 is a mother board for the psp that is a big pain as far as downgading. if attempted it will brick your psp.
This may sound a bit stupid, but every thought counts right. Why doesn't someone try to make a Java program that will downgrade the firmware? That way none of the firmware patches can block it. it would run from the web browser. If it is a stupid idea, it may at least spark another idea that might work.
