"Downgrader" for 1.0 PSP Users! Go back to 1.0 after using 1.50 Firmware! |
Ó

That mad scientist 0okm is at it again. And this time, it's something pretty revolutionary. He has just managed to write a program which can flash your 1.5 PSPs to 1.0, provided that you've backed it up using his tool. This isn't a true downgrader since you can't actually downgrade your original 1.5 PSPs, or even the 1.0s unless you've backed up your firmware with it. But if you're one of those lucky people to still have a 1.0 PSP, rejoice! You can actually take a trip to the 1.5 firmware, and come back home to 1.0!
How is it possible? Well, in simple words, it's just copying the firmware to the memory stick and later, just re-flashing it again. But then, why wouldn't a normal firmware file work, like in the 2.0 downgrader? Under the circumstances, I'll assume that all the files in the flash are somehow encrypted differently for every PSP. That's why it isn't accepting files from a different PSP. It will only restore your firmware if the backup is taken on your own PSP.
And this comes from the guy with the multiple firmware hack which we covered some time back. Seeing all his wacky projects, I'm pretty much sure he has a bunch of stuff up his sleeve. What exactly, I can't tell you because I myself don't know. But whatever it is, I'm waiting with bated breath. For now, enjoy this backup and restore tool for your 1.0 PSP.
The download file is locked by a password. You should open the attached README and find it out yourself since it carries an important message. Please make sure to read the README because it also mentions a lot of info which you should be aware of before embarking on this adventure. And as with every firmware tool, it is risky. Make sure you know what you're doing. Neither 0okm, or QJ.NET accepts any responsibility if you burn your hands badly with it.
But if you're still dying to try it, download it using the link below. And thanks for the tip i386!

This is great news for 1.0 users! and you're right, this is revolutionary!
WELL DONE!

whats the advantage of 1.0 vs 1.5?

I wouldn't risk it right now though.

And if possible, not even above 1.5. Nobody can guarantee the results of this tool if you go over 1.5

the only reason anyone would do this is so they can upgrade to 1.50 in the knowlage that if any custom firmware comes out (most likely any custom firmware will only be usable on 1.00)
they can replace the origional flash.
1.00 isnt better than 1.50, the best way to describe it is 2.00 without the webbrowser and any new game support etc. but homebrew is accessable through game menu without any exploit.

I suppose theoreticly, one could go all the way up to 2.0 with this.. Backup, upgrade to 2.0, downgrade to 1.5, restore with restore tools.
but then again, if its only good for 1.0 users who cares I guess...
at least this gets people one step closer to being able to downgrade to 1.0

Also I thought that when you use the 2.0 downgrader, your PSP becomes 1.0 until you upgrade to 1.5. Is this not true 1.0 or something? Did Sony ever release 1.0 PSP's in the U.S.?

I posted this comment earlier. Just one month ago I had a version 1.5 psp until it got wet and it died. Retuned it with the warranty i bought and now i have a version 2.01 psp. All i want is streaming video on my psp. I would get the location free player but i bet the sound volume sucks just like the volume on UMD movies suck. I could care less about ISO loaders. When i saw downgrader and learned i could not use it i simply snapped. I apologize to all in here and all that try to get stuff working.

You needed to use this tool for the upgrade.
MPH downgrader is a version tricker to 1.0, not an actual downgrader.
The 1.0 version tricker allows the 1.50 updater to work,
but it's never really a 1.0.

Care to post your experience in the official thread http://forums.qj.net/showthread.php?p=667768 ?
I'm highly interested in this app but a single report from an enregistered user on a quick comment board just isn't enought to convince me it's OK.

Onequestion i got for the developer of this, when the 1.0 Firmware is backup, do you just copy all files on the flash to the memory stick or is there hidden data on the flash not accessible via sceIoOpen??
Reply
Still, other than "Mike"s quick claim in an unregistered post, no-one seems to have tried this yet... I've looked on multiple forums too.
I'm sticking with 1.00 till I know this works.
For people that asked what's better about 1.0 compared to 1.5?
- No KXploit (tidier Game folder)
- Initial loading time of homebrew is a lot quicker.
- Possibility of future custom 1.5 upgrade, but that could probably be acheived by 1.5 users tricking their psp to think it is 1.0 first.
For people that ask why this is good news for them if they don't have 1.0 firmware?
The hardcore people that have stuck with just one firmware 1.00 psp, who may be knowledgeable coders, may now be able to help with things like:
- improving umd/firmware loaders
- developing downgraders
- finding security holes like the gta one (which us 1.0 fw users could not find as good umd loaders don't work yet on 1.0)
But we still need a bit of confirmation/evidence of this program working...
