Don't pull your hair out - use the 3.01 DevHook Firmware Installer |
With everyone seemingly running up the walls with excitement now that Booster has allowed homebrew users to emulate firmware 3.01 under DevHook, you may have been left behind in the wake of applications such as the launcher port for 2.71 HEN-D and hybrid firmwares. We are also aware that after the release of DevHook v0.51 yesterday, some users were pulling their hair out as to how to install the latest DevHook.
Despite some extensive tutorials about DevHook v0.51 installation, it still proved an impossible task for some users. So today, tommydanger has come along and provided a 3.01 DevHook Firmware Installer in EBOOT form just for you.
That's right, no PSARDumper required, just you, a PSP, and the 3.01 update EBOOT.PBP. It's completely legal as it does not contain any dumped firmware files but will in fact do to your PSP what PSARDumper does to a PC. Here's what tommydanger said:
To decrypt the FW files you no longer need to extract the PSAR file from the update, the Installer will take care of this. It also moves the FW files to the right directory, you no longer have to move them by hand, and to finish off, it installs the F1 folders so you don't get the Blue Screen of Death.
Now doesn't that sound easy? That's because it is! Just download the 3.01 update from our download site, download the 3.01 DevHook Firmware Install, and you're done. This application is based on PSAR Dumper by PspPet, Dark_AleX, and Team Noobz and this version has been specifically made for the 3.01 Update, but tommydanger is working on a version that will support all updates. Have fun emulating 3.01!

An easier way to install this firmware
make the author a little more noticable please. Also, this wont give you the audio prx that fixes the game bugs.

i dont get it, why cant Devhook 0.51 just be like the 0.46 with easy installer? or like the 1.63 update just replace DH? is 3.01 firmware that different from the past? also, will this installer write to the flash?

yeh 0.46 easy installer was simple... but 0.51 took me about 10 minutes it was nothing.... really are people that lazy i mean the walk through guides here on qj are awesome....

I read somewhere that firmware 2.8+ needs to be psardumped on the individual psp because it is somehow getting info from YOUR psp and adding it to the firmware files, which is why you cant copy a full install to another psp and have it work. Not sure the exacts, but its something like that. Biggest success trick i had was remove ALL old devhook files from the memory stick, for some reason renaming dh to DHOLD and deleting the folders from game didnt allow me a successful load of .51...but deleting those files and starting over worked great.

The installer does the work of psar, (dumping the memstick firmware) then the work of X-flash 16g (dumping the firmware in the onboard flash) and then transfers the files to where they need to be to work with Devhook. That's why he said he could make it for 2.82 firmware

it isnt lazyness. it is for people who like to try this out but fear they will brick their psp. everytime i do something to my psp i fear ill brick it. this way, they know it will be done right 250$ isnt pocket change to alot of us

this trick worked like a charm ! people should follow thw readmes before complaining....there is a lot of things harder to do than this....
Two problems: What does the name of the eboot have to be called? And secondly I am running 2.71 SE-c but when I put these files into game150 it shows a corrupted icon. This doesnt happen when I put it in the game folder. Could this be causing my problem of the program not being able to find the update?
Just name it "eboot"

This is very help to everyone, but not to me. coz after i unstalled the day 3.01 came out, it work perfectly fine, except i didn't get to play my SAVE game data. :( So i went back to 2.71 ughh
I have done both way and both ways worked almost flawlessly, although this one was much quicker. Highly recommended for people new to psp. Also i like that you dont have to flash on this one. Flashing always makes me nervous...

this is awesome i had 3.01 up and running (emulating it of course) in minutes.
this works on 2.71 SE-C. i just used it and it worked perfectly for me. Name the 3.01 update "EBOOT.PBP" and place it in the root of your memory stick copy over this application to your GAME folder copy over the 3 devhook files and then making sure your 2.71 SE-C is in 1.50 kernel mode, start up the app, and then it should work.
this is the only PSP app ive ever had so much trouble with lmao! couldn't get any games to load, and then out of nowhere, the thing decides to reset the flash1 every reboot so i have to do initial setup every time! xD Hoping this installer works, if it does, tommydanger gets winRAR, 4 internets, and a cookie!

its not that it confuses me its just that when i try to emulate a firmware it says reboot system and shuts down. dont know if it is happening to anyone else but its driving me insane. it could possibly be one of my plugins for se-c possibly mp3.prx ill get back if it does. hello.prx doesnt shut off when i use it also kinda wierd but amusing, with lcscheat device i cant play emulators or and when i have the mp3.prx for in games text (the correct file) it doesnt work and it makes my flash videos sound not work either. oh and when i turn on the music in the xmb some songs skip forward in a chipmunchy voice.. well that wraps it up

I think its cause you bought your psp on ebay listed as "1.5 psp" and its a japanese version that uses the buttons in that fashion.
I start this app, I did the old way, I've basically been trying for two days. When ever I start one of these apps, it shows the PSP boot for a couple of seconds. then just shuts off. HELP, anyone?

Well I tried it got so far then that scary blue screen came back! tried deleting the 301 folder then replacing it and trying again, didn't work, just got that dumb blue screen again. Does anyone know how to fix this?
I started with a freshly formatted memory stick and followed the instructions exactly, three times. Here's the error message that I receive after pressing X at the "press [X] to install firmware 3.01 for devhook": Looking for Update Eboot on ms0:/eboot.pbp Unable to open update Eboot Sure it's there?! auto-exiting in 10 seconds I have a 1.5 original firmware PSP and have been using devhook 0.46 in the past without any issues. I guess I'm missing something. Is anybody capable of posting a mature, non-insulting response to this issue?

did you put 3.01 firmware update file on your memory stick root directory? make sure name that file to EBOOT.PBP. it worked for me. I am using TA-082 + HEND.

I tried this 2 times the first time it went black so I deleted the 301 file then replaced it tried it again. I got a little farther I got the little mousic when you reboot, got so far the backround showed then the blue screen appeared! Does anyone know how to fix this? I don't know what I did wrong!

buttons are swapped on mine as well. i have an original 1.5 psp USA retail system. this is not a japanese system
I am by no way an idiot and I installed DevHook manually yesterday, no matter what settings I used (flashed the DevHook files onto my PSP, didn't flash the files, etc.) and despite the fact that I dumped the firmware personally with my own PSP it would simply not work. This installer worked 100% and I'm on 3.01 right now. My only complaint is that for whatever odd reason the confirm button is switched from X to O. I downloaded the firmware here from PSPUpdates, perhaps it was the Japanese firmware?

iamthekiller Yeah you need to place the 3.01 update.pbp file in the root of the ms and rename it eboot.pbp then the updater will find it and start the unpack. I like your name, it's from scary movie, the name of a song. I dig it. good luck.

Thanks for this method. It is very simple and works flawlessly. I appreciate you effort in helping out the community with the simplicity of this updater. My only issues are: The X & O buttons got swapped. I have a USA retail system, not a japanese system, so this is very annoying but still works. And, Internet doesn't work! I tried to enter all my info manually to ensure correct setup but this is the message I keep getting: A connection error has occured. (80410D17) So I do have 3.01FW just can't multiplay online with any cool games or surf the net. Doesn anybody else have this problem with internet? Is there a fix? or is there something I did wrong while installing? and and the X & O be swapped back? Thanks Tommyboy for the great updater, keep it up.

It works awesome on SE-C, but you will have to run it on iR Shell with the homebrew path to GAME150 (put the auto installer in GAME150)!

Wrong, it isnt a jap version PSP. The *****GET that made this kit reversed the buttons. ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** *****. Pole smoker!. Now I know why QJ sucks as much as it does. And no it isnt the PATHETICLY slow site loading, nope thats to easy. hey guys.. I downloaded it and started it and everything went fine. But when i started devhook and did 3.01 and it loaded but the a blue screen with a lot of wriing came. in many languages and said setup information corruted press O to repair and put default settings. Help pls. Ihave 1.5 and 1 gb sandisk.

This ***** is not working on 2.80. When I go to GAME directory it saids "Data is Corrupted" of if I run it with eLoader it tilts in the eMenu screen and the psp shuts of. What is matter? How the hell is supposed to use the DevHook on 3.01 if the 3.01 cant run EBOOTS... Or if I upgrade to 2.82 and then try to run this i cant use eLoader and wont start from GAME directory.. Easiest and best self installer yet! Only difficulty I've had is running my ISOs of the games I have bought. When quitting a game, it turns the entire unit off. Anyone else seeing this?
I don't think all of them are lazy. It's just that if people see alot of steps they become worried about making a mistake and bricking their PSP's. Not everyone who owns a PSP has computer knowledge. I actually charge people to put emulators and roms on their PSP's for this very reason, that and they don't want to spend the time to do it.
Hi i managed to downgrade my 2.81 PSP the other day from a downgrader by a person called Deloo. Anyway i would search on Google you will find it.

Does anyone else have problems with adding RSS channels? I've tried adding them and even adding the sample channel but when I go to the RSS channel tab it says "There are no channels", like it's not storing them. Can anyone confirm that this works? Thanks

hm. actually 3.01 is probably the easiest firmware to install manually. just dump with psar dumper and copy ms0:/f0 to ms0:/dh/301/f0

I have installed devhook 3.01 and eveything is fine but when i try to load a game (umd or iso) it just freezes on the start up screen and then shuts off and returns to 1.5 firmware. Please can someone help...i have tried various settings in devhook but nothing seems to work.

Thank you for the easy installer! The only issue I have is that it boots to the initial setup screen, where I have to enter the language, time zone, time/date, and nickname. Is there any way around that?

hey, im having the same problems with the iso's loading in dev hook .51 its installed and works fine(except for this problem), but when i try to run iso's that used to run perfectly on dev hook .46 it only goes past the intro movie and stops...i kno it cant be a bad iso...what can i do about this? its very frustrating...thanks
Finally a version of devhook and firmware that will run the Ghost in the Shell UMD! Now there isn't a single game I have that doesn't work anymore. Even MGS:Portable Ops works perfectly!

It did not work. I got all files necissary from QJ. This thing, the 3.01 file, and devhook.51 . WTF?! I formatted the memory stick twice, tried it fifty times, and what the mother f***, it doesn't work.
im using 3.01 and i followed the instructions to the letter and i cant get it to work it just says(this game can not be started this data is corrupted) someone please help
To point out that I had enormous problems with the naming of the catalogues on my SE-C psp. I renamed them to: SCE__301_dh_fw SCE__301_dh_fw% and put them in game150 and then got recongnised and I was able to get them to run, might help a few people having problems with SE-C and these devhook files.

I have no idea what to do with this stuff. I'm really new too PSP and I just want to play Metal Gear. My friend said my PSP has "2.71 SE-B" or something. Can someone just tell me EXACTLY what to do?

I was worried that it won't be able to support a 4GB stick (b4 I bought it), but I juz bought one recently here in Japan. Used DH 0.51 (then 0.51.100) emulated 3.02...it works fine. So dun sweat bout it...in case ur still wondering... ;) Cheers!
