DevHook

Booster has updated his firmware launching tool, DevHook for the PSP to version 0.42 today. For those of you who don't know (i.e. 2.5/2.6 users who have just downgraded), DevHook allows you to launch another firmware version up to 2.5 and use all of its features, enabling you to use the web browser and LocationFree player, and run UMDs that require firmware version 1.5. The firmware remains loaded in the PSP's RAM, so after a simple reboot of your PSP, it will return to firmware version 1.5 like magic.

Here's the changelog:
  • Menu looks sharper with a better resolution.
  • No UMD bug fix
  • UMD Emu's semaphore bug fix
  • Changed Clock reset timing
  • Changed contents of configuration data
  • Changed loading & setting method from launcher
  • Changed the config load at the time of starting into a memory course from a file.
  • XMB's UMD change feature is now in an external module.
  • Added a CLOCK change function to the XMB shortcut.
  • Clock frequency is displayed on the XMB
  • Remote control compatibility with Kprintf.
  • Added Japanese localization launcher version by mok
Todo:
  • FW2.00 No-UMD loading
  • FW2.71 reboot
  • NAND driver emulation
Most of these changes are to the core of DevHook, and they improve the stability and compatibility of this program. The main differences the average user will spot are the menu resolution enhancements and the addition of Remote control compatibility with Kprintf. Those who have downgraded from 2.5-2.6 now know why 1.5 is known as 'the magic firmware.' You can do almost anything with it: defy the Update Machine; play 2.5 UMD's; and, browse the Web with 1.5 Firmware!

Note: Dumped firmware files are required in order to emulate that firmware version. We cannot provide these for legal reasons, you must obtain them yourself.

UPDATE: These developers sure work fast. Barely two days after releasing v0.42 of DevHook, Booster has another update for all off us. V0.42a fixes a bug for NOUMD. The return value of dhGetVersion () has changed from 0x00004200 to 0x00420001 in this update. Get updated version of DevHook below.

Download: [DevHook v0.42a]

UPDATE No. 2: Booster is not only one smart guy to have come up with DevHook, he's also one fast worker as well. In a span of two days, he was able to give us not only one but THREE updates to arguably one of the most exciting homebrew app to cross our ways.

Thanks to AkiraPsychic, we got to know of the latest version to Bosster's DevHook. V0.42b has the following changelog (as always, thanks to the amazing Jeff Chen for the translation):

- Memory drain improved when rebooting.
- DevHook resident task stack changed from 4KB to 8KB.
- The return value of dhGetVersion() changed from 0x00004201 to 0x00420002.
- When set CPU CLOCK=0, the CLOCK manipulation of DevHook will be disabled (launcher is not supported yet)

if you rip a umd disc with a game that requires 2.6, or 2.7, you can edit files and make it into an iso for playing on the devhook launcher, of course, the game iso's are large. but being able to play new games on your 1.5 is a very nice feature.

if you want loco roco to work you will need to download the patch from www.maxconsole.net, join forum search for loco roco patch its by a guy called "meetjoeblack", make sure you download ppf o-matic too, theres a link to it on the page with the lco roco patch...and make sure you check the file size of the iso before patching, make sure it corresponds with the size nexts to the patch hyperlink on the maxconsole page. Hope this clears up any confusion on this matter

» To post #9, the douchebag.

I own SOCOM, and wouldn't risk downgrading from 2.0 to if I wouldn't be able to play. So it's certain it will work? With the last ones, it emulated perfectly except with WiFi.

I said nothing of piracy. And even if I did, it should be the PSP owners option of what to do with thier PSP as long as thier aware of the risk. Sony is blocking out a lot more than piracy with these updates, and without kernal mode, I can't play some of the best homebrew games, like the modable Super Smash Bros clone somebody made.

I am assuming you have not properly installed firmwares 2.0 and 2.5 into devhook. You need to download firmwares 2.0 and 2.5 and use the firmware installer thing that comes with devhook. It should be like the next icon down when choosing to launch devhook.

I am not sure if this version comes with it. If it doesn't download version .40 and it should have the firmware installer. If you have a UMD that has firmware 2.0 you can use that with the firmware installer(its a lot easier this way).

Same thing for 2.5 and don't forget you need both.

If you don't want to go through all of this mess join ps2nfo.com and download devhook through them. I think theres comes with the firmwares already installed.

Hi guys,

Im a noob to this forum and been running a downgraded to 1.5 PS with an old version of DevHook for some time now. So I'd like to upgrade to this version.

Can someone please give info on how to get this new version up and running. The txt files in the RAR give no useful info (that I can see anyway). Do I need to upgrade to 2.0/2.5 and then back down again? If so, where can I get the dumpfiles?

» DevHook 0.42 setup guide!!!

Step by step guide on how to setup DevHook 0.42

Before you start make sure you have a PSP with firmware 1.50

1. Download DevHook 0.42

2. Go into the MS-Root folder in the DevHook download and copy the dh and psp folder onto the root of your mem-stick.

3. Download pbp unpacker(you'll have to find it on your own)

4.Download 2.50 update(from PSP Updates :)

5. Open the update with pbp unpacker and extract all the files to wherever you want (the file needed is the data.psar)

6. Get the data.psar from the extracted update and put that onto the root of your mem-stick

7. On the psp choose devhook installer and start that, then when you are in the eboot start the installer, at the end of the installation it will ask if you want to copy your flash1, press O to copy flash1 settings

8. When everything is done open DevHook and use these settings:

UMD Select: (choose your iso, cso or --UMD DISC--)

UMD Mount: ISO ANYUMD

UMD Version: 2.xx > 2.00

Firmware: 2.50

CPU Clock: 222MHz / 111MHz (that is what I always use no problems)

Boot Select: Reboot XMB

When selecting a UMD Disc with the UMD Select option the other settings will be changed automatically so the UMD will run, the settings can be changed back later by pressing O when DevHook is auto-starting.

9. (optional)Use PSP ISO Compressor to compress the ISO into cso format for use with DevHook. This helps with MS space (pretty simple yo use)

Where to put your iso/cso

Some people don't know where there iso/cso/dax (dax isn't compatible with DevHook by the way) goes, it goes in a folder called ISO in the root of you mem-stick (this applies to all loaders).

Your psp isn't now a 2.50

Some people seem to think their psp is now 2.50 it is not just hold down the power button until the psp turns off completely, boot the psp back up and it will be back to 1.50. It never actually installs anything to the psp it just runs the dump from the mem-stick, if it made the psp update to 2.50 nobody would use it.

How to install new verions if you already have a previous version set up

Whenever you download a new version of DevHook you can insatall it without having to re-install the dump. When you have downloaded the latest version of devhook go into the MS_ROOT > PSP > GAME > and remove the DevHook installer eboots. Now go back into the MS_ROOT folder so you are just presented with the folders dh and PSP, now just copy these two folders into the root of your mem-stick and then if a message comes up saying something like "If the files in the folder have the same name do you want to replace them?" click "yes to all".

LONG LIVE BOOSTER!! Keep up the great work and I'm looking forward for later fw emulation, like 2.6 and 2.7x

Hmm.. What a strange coincidence. I think some people should HAVE just stayed at 3rd grade, so that they would know some basic grammar and spelling rules.

You're an idiot. It's dififcult for new users, and you should not expect them to know everything, and besides the point, PSP USERS ARE MORONS. And you know it is true. A PSP user is not smart enough to know even HOW to search for answers on these things. Maybe 95% of them are too dumb. Sure, there are the top 5% like me, and POSSIBLY you, but then again it does not matter as people like you would rather spout elitisms than actually help the lower 95%.

» @100, 2.71 emulation is very possible now

2.71 emulation is very possible in the not too distant future. With kernal mode being unlocked on 2.5/6, people can now find the decryption keys stored in the kernal, these keys wouldn't have changed for 2.71. So although we don't have kernal mode unlocked on 2.71 we can still decrypt it and emulate it with devhook, it's only a matter of time.

» RRgh.

Yaknow, there's forums here for asking these kinds of questions. With a whole search function, just for finding the tutorials that will help you install and use devhook.

Kindly try getting off your lazy buttocks, and use that cobwebbed brain of yours. Firefox has a google search bar for a reason -- use it. And if you're still using IE, get google toolbar, or dump IE and use firefox instead.

For those looking for something to extract RAR files, just go and get 7-zip -- it's free & LGPL and it'll happily extract RARs.

http://www.7-zip.org/

http://www.getfirefox.com/

And the Loco Roco UMD works fine with devhook 0.42a. Wifi's broken though.

For those asking to get .DAX'd isos working on devhook, do a search for CSOnDAX.exe -- it can convert .DAX to .CSO, .ISO to .DAX, .ISO to .CSO, CSO to .ISO, and .DAX to .ISO.

http://perso.orange.fr/sanaell/psp/CSOnDAX.rar

And for any other questions, UTFS! (Use The Frakkin' Search!)

If everyone just downloads ISOs then there will be no new games and the PSP will die.

is monster hunter a 2.5 or 2.6 fw game if its 2.6 i might wait on buying it till 2.71 is emulated Im not a big fan on running isos especially since they run slower on the MS then a UMD with this program. So if anyone can help and see if it the umd works even if it is 2.6 let me know. I want this game but im not stupid enough to update to 2.6 even with the downgrader.

» @ Oriyen

Dude the games run faster off of memory stick than they do UMD. That's the only reason I'm on 1.5. I could use my UMDs, but it's faster to change them to ISO and run through devhook.

If UMD was faster, I'd be on 2.71.

Well i was experienceing that and i heard others saying that as well. So eitherway i don't care but im still interested if Monster Hunter is 2.5 or 2.6 because Id like to own the game and be able to use the UMD as well before I use the ISO. Its just a wierd thing for me I like owning the original to encourage the production of better games.

» #74 >>DevHook 0.42 setup guide!!! (UPDATED)

#92

If you want 2.0 function as well I would recommend uninstalling Devhook (or begin with a fresh format:), download the 2.0 Firmware update and follow these EXTRA step. (this step should be followed between 4 & 5)

4a)Open the (2.0) update with pbp unpacker and extract all the files to wherever you want (the file needed is the data.psar)

4b) Get the data.psar from the extracted update and put that onto the root of your mem-stick

4c)On the psp choose devhook installer and start that, then when you are in the eboot start the installer, at the end of the installation it will ask if you want to copy your flash1, *DO NOT COPY THE FLASH1 SETTINGS*

The rest of the steps 5,6 & 7 are repeated with 2.5 firmware update.

#101

Try these same steps (I believe it will work) if not you will need to find an ISO "fix". By the way this is for a legally obtained back-up ISO right???

To snake : To change ISO's in Devhook hold down the home button and press L or R so you don't even need to reboot or load the program again ala DAX Loader.

Yes, noobs might seem annoying sometimes, but this is supposed to be a COMMUNITY. But the PSP community is absolutely notorious for being a bunch of ungrateful wankers, full of idiots who only talk ***** and whine about the developers not doing this or that, completely unappreciative of the dev's work. Most noobs come here looking for help, and a lot of them have already run searches and probably couldnt find an answer to their specific question (although some noobs do have pretty basic questions, indicating they didn't run a search). Regardless, the hostility of the PSP community is shocking compared to the treatment of noobs in other communities. I get the feeling that most of you are immature 13-14 year old herbs who watch too much hentai.

People like Alucard are a rarity in the PSP updates community.

» Syphon Filter

I am a longtime 1.5 user that upgraded to 2.0 as soon as GTA came out then downgraded back to 1.5 to have some more fun when i got bored with GTA. When Syphon Filter came out, I upgraded to 2.6 in order to play it. Devhook came out after my 1.5 days, I've read alot of people reporting that some 2.6 FW games run on Devhook. I'd like to know if Syphon Filter UMD (not pirated iso garbage, the actual umd) will load w/ the newest Devhook. I read up above someone talking about it freezing after theload screen but wasn't very detailed.

Anyone else try the Syphon UMD on devhook 0.42a? Thnx

I've put the 0.42 version on my PSP and it won't start my Loco Roco CSO. It just freezes when in start the CSO. And then the 0.42a version was out I thought; Maybe it's a bug and 0.42a fixes it and I can play my Loco Roco CSO. But it also freezes. So I put 0.41d back and I can play my Loco Roco CSO again..Why can't I play my Loco Roco CSO on 0.42 and above? Can someone help me?

look at these questions.... i wish the 2.5/6 downgrader never got released.

these people were on higher firmwares for one reason, that being they're morons.

the flood of piracy has come.

...come on man, they aren't stupid, more like ignorenet... you have to remember that the downgrader expanded the communtiy, and these kids havent been exposed to some of the 1.5 homebrew

Just make the ISO for loco roco if you have the UMD. But I can only get the game to work up to the last level of world 3, then if crashes.

That's right, 2.71 is officially decrypted:

http://forums.qj.net/showthread.php?t=58007

Although, it can't be used via emulation yet, Devhook needs to be updated to be 2.71 compatible.

» @218

Omg 218 give booster some credit u n00b!!!

Anywayz I wonder if its possible to emulate 2.71?

I hope so and i think Booster is smart enough to know how. By the way I think its great that there is now a 2.6/2.5 dgrader!!! It will make the homebrew community bigger and better. (I used to be a n00b and went and upgraded my 1.5 and that was b4 the downgrader came out. So I just traded my 2.6 and 2 games for a 1.5. Now people wont have to take such drastic measures lol)

Oh and did I mention... BOOSTER IS GOD!!!!!!

» Non-n00b questions

Anybody know what the NAND Driver emulation will do and also what the different reboot modes do in devhook, I have always used "reboot xmb" but the other options *****ling me to find out what they do, for example:

Reboot UMD (1.5 ONLY)

Reboot RunUMD (1.5 ONLY)

...ETC

Surely none of these other options are needed as the reboot xmb option works a treat?

» confused

I've used devhook to visit the world of fw2.50 since the first release but I still have some confusion about these new updates.

at first, I really didn't care about the malfunctioning wifi on 333Mhz but, as games and web browser run best on 333MHz, I'm now back to 0.41a with wifi fix but eagerly want to update. I also notice that somebody up there have posted that the reason for the mulfunctioning is not in the devhook program itself, but in the dump side. (actually, still quite blur with this fact too...)

sorry if I foreseen if there was already a solution for this. my question is how to update devhook to 0.42b with 333Mhz wifi fix available? is it possible? any help would be so much appreciated

thanx in advance!

@234: No, I am afriad you have to wait for the new one to come out, that one is going to be with 2.71 games compatiable.

@235: Yes, you have to extract the DATA.PSAR file from 2.50 Update then put it on the root of your MS, then lauch the installer eboot on the psp, press circle to install. Then lauch DEVHOOK Laucher to emu 2.50, for now.

@236: Yes, if you want a up to date version. Much safer.

@237: Check the file section of QJ-PSP( You have to search for it in the file section or chose firmware update on the left).

also, the people that are above even 2.0 ARE idiots, so many of you people regret you updated, well its your fault only, nobody made you update, and most of you knew about homebrew already, im not saying people who bought the 2.0+psp without knowing homebrew, I'm talking about idiots who updated with full kowning that they can't get homebrew, its their fault and them only them don't deserve this great downgreader

u can play some 2.60 games check this compatibility list at http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=21299

it will tell u if they run but if they need to be edited then u have to make an iso of ur games.

i have had a problem with 0.42b when i hit the home button and then yes it starts to quit but then it makes a white bar on the bottom of the screen and just sits there forever
