Devhook updated to v0.45! Launching Homebrew on Emulated 2.71 Now Possible! |

Ó

Proof that once the great developers start, they simply keep rolling out amazing updates! And proof that Booster is one of the greatest developers to have graced the PSP hacking scene.
Just like the last update which offered 2.71 emulation, this one will rock your socks off too! It apparently supports homebrew launching right on 2.71 firmware. Couple it with harleyg's custom firmware mod which allows you to directly load DevHook on startup, and you're practically in PSP heaven. Together, these two mods offer almost all of the functionality of the $90 modchip, for free!
Here's a detailed changelog, translated by our very own Jeff Chen:
- Support for loading EBOOT.PBP on memory stick and EBOOT.BIN on UMD(ISO) in ELF format.
- Fixed problems that made 1.50 NoUMD not functioning.
- Added more exclusive controls added to flash emulation. As well as other memory stick breaking countermeasures.
- Memory map changed for rebooting.
- FW2.71 registry initialization failure problem.
- Stabilize flash emulation (file access).
- NoUMD for FW 2.xx
- NAND driver level emulation
Isn't it great how the PSP scene is suddenly bursting out with great discoveries and creations everyday? And this just begs the question- "What next?". And I personally can't wait for the answer!

all i get is a page telling devs how to make HB for emulated 2.71

With the custom firmware autoloading devhook, this makes any 1.5 psp virtually a 2.71 psp capable of directly loading homebrew!
Whoever said it above is correct: unless you have a bricked psp, the UP modchip is USELESS!

Plus once you've selected your firmware and what to go back is the only way to do this by doing a hard reboot?

it can do everything the Espilon flash can do...like run ISO's from the game menu, and run homebrew, that we could just flash it 2 our PSP's using Dark_Alex's flasher. Espilon is a FW anyway, cause the PSP runs it as FW, so it is posible
booster u rock!

おまけで、ELFなEBOOT.BINがUMD(ISO)も起動できます。
ゲームに静的パッチをしたい方はお試しあれ。
not sure what it means but I guess he is close to releasing yet another version of 0.45 possibly with improved homebrew support on 2.xx.
Also wouldn't it be mad if sony just though ***** it and released v3.0 fw wide-open and able to run anything...

ie: flash0/font
flash0/vsh/resource/gameboot.pmf
The other settings for coldboot.vag, "no intro", and to take away the TM brandings elude me though you'll have to search for those.
PS: You CAN NOT brick your PSP by coping the files as they are on your memory stick not flash. If you do copy files though that are not compatible though the worst you can do is mess up your 2.71 install so make a backup on your desktop so you can revert just in case! ;)

The 2.71 being decrypted in the first place is what will help. Without a way to run code on 2.71, things like this offer little help.
So, what's the deal with the homebrew? Proof of concept, and doesn't run normal 1.00/1.50 eboots? Hope something better comes out.

1) Installing the firmware 3.0 update directly to the memory stick (i.e. fooling the update eboot.pbp to think that its installing to a proper nand flash chip) Thus we will get the decrypted 3.0 files straight to the mem stick)
Also can be used for runni ng epsilon bios in devhook or a similar mod, the nand driver will be loaded and ct as a virtual second flash.
Hope this helps

You then need the source to an e - loader app (most e-loader apps run in user mode as e-loader didn't have kernel access)
you will then need to recopile in adding the callack code written by booster. Re-compile the app using the psp toolchain and make sure its non kxploited.
Done!
Hope that helps

I've read the instructions for converting homebrew and I'd say it's something that the developers might kindly do for us (but if Booster is up to his /her usual form, we might not have to convert them in a few weeks time :->).
My only negative comments are so trivial I feel really silly mentioning them but the XMB icon/background/music for devhook version 0.44 was very impressive and is no longer there. Also Nesterj/HOMEBREW2XX has no XMB icon (maybe this is on oversight or might be how it will be). I tried both the “lite” version and the “full” one (from PS2NFO) to see if the XMB icon changed but it did not. After installing the “full” version, my wallpaper/nickname/time zone and connections had changed (no biggie).
P.S. The person who could not change ISO’s – I guess you know you have to be back at the XMB to change them. If you are then I guess you’ve got a corrupt ISO as said before.

To Post 189: No you cannot play homebrew on 2.71, they have not found an exploit that allows hombrew to run yet. This is for 1.5 users who are emualting 2.71 firmware using devhook, it allows them to run user mode eboots that have been compiled to run in devhooks emualted 2.71 firmware
To post 190: You will need to leave that to a dev, unless you have a linux box with the pspsdk installed and know how to use the psptoolchain. This is only a proof of conecpt, Im sure that the recompilation process will be made easier over the next few release, or maybe evern eliminated completely. There is a compiled version of nesterj at ps2info I belive read post 1987 from scotty16

Who the hell needs a freaking mod-chip and Epsilon BIOS now?
But I must admit that after the mod chip got released, it was easier to create/experiment with custom fw and such without bricking your PSP. It was only after the mod chip got released that we are seeing very new and big developments.
So thank UP for that.

Does this mean that it's possible to run 2.71 software on the emulated 2.71 firmware from the memory stick (ISO or whatever), or is this just a solution to be able to run 1.50 homebrew without having to reboot the PSP?
Thanks :)

1. Boot start with WIFI on and HOLD on (Loads configuration and recovery mode)
2. Go to the boost option and choose 333 mhz
3. Go to exit and wherever you go on your PSP (1.50 or 2.71 or whatever), you'll be at 333mhz
(Browser works perfectly with Flash files - faster too. But I havn't tested Internet capability...)
peace of mind

if you plug in your charger while running devhook , or put it into sleep mode devhook with the power cable in ,the charging cycle never ends..
its not until you exit devhook and return to 1.5 that the charging cycle ends..
i can only imagine that this could damage the battery by overcharging..
is anyone else getting this?

I kep getting problems where devhook runs & then after it reboots it plays the bot upsound twice, also all the icons except the settings, music, video, photo, game & network shows but the rest don't.
When I select the umd icons the background is all corrupt, & finally when I run the game the boot video that you get when running the game is all weird & there is no sound.
please can somebody please help?
I have a magicstor microdrive ATA/IDE 4GB, Model Number GS10040A-41 11, I am running it through a neo 2in1 device converter.
please can somebody tell me if they have any problems like these, if not has somebod got the same drive & had no problems with it, if so can you please tell me how I can fix it to make it work with mine.

and why is it that the 2.5.2.6 exploit olny had a downgrader, and no homebrew?

I tried formatting the stick and putting DH at the very beginning of the HDD to see if I could speed it up (thinking the lag was from seek time, silly me). Still much slower than regular mem stick. I haven't tried the ISO emulation yet, but again I'm extremely happy with v.044 successfully rebooting with fw 2.71 emulation!

NAND Emualtion can be used for two things:
1) Installing the firmware 3.0 update directly to the memory stick (i.e. fooling the update eboot.pbp to think that its installing to a proper nand flash chip) Thus we will get the decrypted 3.0 files straight to the mem stick)
Also can be used for running epsilon bios in devhook or a similar modified firmware, the nand driver will be loaded and would act as a virtual second flash chip ( basically Undiluted.Platinum emulation)
Hope this helps
