Ó

PSP Dark AleX - Image 1Dark AleX has finally released what he was promising a few days back: the 1.50 kernel addon for 3.71 M33. It's here, and it's mighty, and we're reeling in shock.

Installation instructions are pretty easy and straight forward. They're found in the readme so you better take a look at that. Also, please note that this homebrew hack is only for PSP Fat. As DAX puts it in the readme: "The program will reject PSP Slim, due to the 1.50 kernel not working on it."

While everyone is rejoicing for this release, a rather bitter after taste has settled among some members of the homebrew community. One simple question is whispered among the crowd: does this mean Dark AleX is quitting?

When he/M33 released the CFW v3.71, DAX promised two last releases:
  1. the universal unbricker for PSP Fat and Slim
  2. and this one, the 1.50 kernel
So is the great DAX finally leaving the scene? Well... For now, we have this. And we should be thankful. Count your blessings and forever thank the homebrew developer.

Further info on the kernel can be found or discussed about in the forum link below. If you need any help or come across any problems (or just feel a sudden urge to wail about your woes on DAX leaving), the homebrew community will always have an ear.

by Morlander - 2007-09-30 07:43:02
end of an era

hope some people post on this as i have not even installed 3.71m33 yet cuz i wanted to see how this patch worked but either way the scene will miss Dark_Alex. more than anyone realize's yet.
by dapaperclip - 2007-09-30 07:43:44
XD

Nice to see that the thing has finally been released, too bad it's the last release through. Already tested it and it works great with all of my stuff. As it says in the readme just put your 150 eboot nameb 150.pbp into the root folder of the psp and the UPDATE installed into the GAME folder. Thanks

by otacon - 2007-09-30 07:44:32
WAIT A MINUTE

by dapaperclip - 2007-09-30 07:45:42
YES YOU CAN

You could have mad a pandora batter without the patch, there is already a 3xx pandora creator, also tested it and it works.
by Soulfinder - 2007-09-30 07:46:35
Cool

Thanks DAX!

by Ram_Chow - 2007-09-30 08:40:49
Question

Well, make that two questions: 1) What are kernal files/what do they do? 2) I have PSP 3.51 M33, would it work on that?
by FearEvil19 - 2007-09-30 08:45:16
thanks

Thank you , Dark_AleX. I will never forget you T_T
by The Uncreated - 2007-09-30 08:46:44
Not so fast, partnuh

I'll wait for a few of you overzealous materialists to brick before I consider installing this. :) The Uncreated

PSX games ?

I couldn't run any of my PSX games on my PSP with 3.71 M33 (without the 1.50 kernel) so i downgraded back to 3.52 M33-4 ....can somebody tell if they are able to run their PSX games now after they install the 1.50 kernel on 3.71 M33 ?
by Chaoticgamer - 2007-09-30 09:00:48
umm..

First kernal files are what modify the PSP into using programs like homebrew and CFW updates. Second update to 3.52 M33-3/4 then update to 3.71 m33 then apply this 1.50 patch.
by Chaoticgamer - 2007-09-30 09:04:12
??

i was able to play PSX games on my 3.71 m33 before I installed this patch. Yes PSx games work on this firmware.
by pepinux - 2007-09-30 09:09:08
a

Themes have nothing to do with 1.5 firmware. Themes depends on a few plugins of the target firmware.... that's the reason we have themes targeting 3.30OE, 3.40OE,3.52M33 and we don't have a theme for all versions... please don't talk about something you don't know... There aren't themes fully compatible with 3.71M33 but that's not DA work...
by s00xj - 2007-09-30 09:10:39
Thanks D_A

Thanks Dark_Alex i succesfully installed it Thnx for all
by akujo - 2007-09-30 09:10:43
PSX GAMES

Chaoticgamer, i tried Resident Evil 2 and 3 on my PSP, none of them worked with 3.71 M33...and by that i mean both of them froze at the intro screen. (i had all my plugins removed and disabled them.. still no luck) now i'm on 3.52 M33-4 and now they work excellent...thats pretty weird ...
by pepinux - 2007-09-30 09:26:40

you have "Desperdar del cementerio" to take care of your bricks... ;)

by LowsNameBrand - 2007-09-30 10:09:15

Is It Worth It??? Did It Add Any New Features besides what sony added???
by FearEvil19 - 2007-09-30 10:23:41
NOPE

but its still better that 3.52 m33-4. some plugins don't work, i don't know why (can someone explain it, please?).we will have to wait for some updates

by Ram_Chow - 2007-09-30 14:04:09
One more bit

Thanks buddy. There was actually one more thing I forgot to ask: Is there a high chance, if any at all, of it bricking my PSP?
by Ram_Chow - 2007-09-30 14:06:55
RE 2

Damn I wish I had it on PS1. I woulda made an EBOOT out of it. I have it on N64 :( Oh and speaking of which, you should give making your own EBOOTs a shot, they work 100% for me and I'm running 3.51 M33
by urherenow - 2007-09-30 14:26:00
hmmm....

snes tyl 0.4.2 me doesn't work ohhh.... on an 8GB card that is. moved it to a 1gig before posting and it works fine! IRshell works on the 8GB psx works fine as well so everything is in order! Except I can't be bothered with one thing that *could* be a pain in the rear... which plugins to use? 3.71 or 1.5? I'm sure you could keep a copy of both on your memory stick by renaming the 3.71 ones and adding the new name to the text (ie. game.txt pops.txt vsh.txt) but you'd still have to do a cold boot every time to enable/disable the proper ones for whatever you're doing. At any rate, THANK YOU DAX!!! You da man :D
by MitchenX - 2007-09-30 14:52:00
Once again

Thank you once again!!! Works like a charm, too. Dark Alex rules!!! :)

1.5 instalation problems

it keeps telling me "incorrect or inexistant 150.pbp at root" i renamed the eboot like it told me even downloaded a new 1.50 eboot and still got this error someone please help me because i have lost all my 1.5 app usage because of this update i was fine until this and i might as well have standard fw if i cant get my kernel up and running
by dapaperclip - 2007-09-30 18:40:36
Jsut make sure

That your 150.pbp file is in the root of the memory stick NOT in the update folder. Cheers
by ck472007 - 2007-09-30 19:33:41
1 question

Thank DAX and hope u will be back. We will miss you. One question: Does this mean that the psp fat can go back to 1.5 without using the DAX's universal unbricker or the Pandora's battery. I mean like all the recovery EBOOT in all the other CFW.
by snkysnake - 2007-09-30 21:08:01

plugins?

Hi... I read that 3.71 M33 has kernel changes and plugins don't work. Does this addon affect/make more plugins work? Or does anybody know if PiKey works with 3.71 M33?
by J Z - 2007-10-01 03:42:05
root

root would be right on the letter of your PSP when it's in USB mode. So you'd go, if your PSPs letter is H, say "H:\150.PBP"

by Mister Common Sense - 2007-10-01 05:00:23
why upgrade?

M33 3.52 v4 is perfectly fine for me because it supports popsloader. Popsloader gives you better PS1 game compatibility.
by JaXeRiR - 2007-10-01 08:07:38
Nah...

I'm just waitin' and hopin' someone makes it so that a) You can update straight from 3.40 OE-A b) It has the kernel patch straight, no messing with this c) It really works d) It has been released by Dark_Alex, M33 or Wildcard not some pspcoderhacker0292489142 e) It has also the new microwave patch, which allows you to cook food through the iR port f) It has been locked from dumbasses that really believed e)
by JaXeRiR - 2007-10-01 08:12:56
@viper2500

Umm... If you're using gpSP, this update won't help you run your roms. You need a file called gba_bios.bin in X:\PSP\GAME150\gpSP\ which you can download by searching it on Google.
by duane - 2007-10-01 08:33:01
re

Kernel files do not 'modify' the psp but rather, ARE the psp. More technically, the kernel files are the operating system of the psp. By installing this 1.50 kernel update, you're basically installing the 1.50 kernel subset over the 3.71 kernel superset to alow 1.50 homebrew to be used on m33 3.71. Thats basically how all of the CFWs work :) FYI
by Mister Common Sense - 2007-10-01 08:48:17
no!

But I use my location free player and Korean fonts all the time! [sarcasm]
by JaXeRiR - 2007-10-01 08:54:06
Oh...

I just noticed one thing... Now, IF DAX is leaving, he's leaving completely, no messing around behind a fake name, everybody could guess :) So this is the end I guess. If there won't be any other firmware devs, which there probably won't be any cheap rip-off firmwares, like those made by that becus guy and the other pspfwdev2149871589 (well whoever...) And here I wasn't counting WildC*rd, I think they are really something to look forward to. Then there are that Void and AoP, which I'm not sure about. I guess they were just some other ripoff developers. But, the bottom line here is that, this time we know that DAX is really leaving, he won't mess with us two times on a row. So, if Mathieulh and the rest of the M33 won't continue without DAX, we might be pretty much screwed, unless WildC*rd shows us some deep-inside-secret coding skills, and now it might be really the time for them to show how go(o)d they are. We're counting on you WildC*rd!!!!!!!
by Mister Common Sense - 2007-10-01 08:56:02
good luck with that, lol

When I tried finding that gba_bios.bin file using google, all I got was a lot of malicious spyware from various sites on my computer. Luckily I found it on a popular file sharing site.
by duane - 2007-10-01 11:45:53
@ Ram_Chow

There's always a tiny chance of bricking your psp, whenever you write to flash. Even if you are using official firmwares. But thats only if you pull the ac plug with insufficient battery or pull the battery out oO. Don't do that and you'll be okay. The update wont work anyway if you have insufficient battery (70% I think). There is a way to bypass this but I forgot how and even if I knew I wouldn't tell. It may lead to bricking.
by tobyo1 - 2007-10-01 11:52:19
BRICK WARNING

If you go up to 3.71M33 and want to go to 3.52M33, DO NOT PUT THE UPDATED STRAIGHT INTO 3.71M33, DOWNGRADE FIRST OR YOU WILL BE VERY DISSAPOINTED WHEN YOU TRY TO TURN ON YOUR PSP AFTER THE UPDATE IS DONE!! PS: Thank god for pandora!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
by TheBourneID - 2007-10-01 12:48:12
More "Location Free Player" Info

One of the things this disables is "Location Free Player." Does this in ANY way refer to the ability to playback UMD video ISOs? Any info is appreciated...
by J Z - 2007-10-01 14:30:47
uh

Wow, the coding on the site really messed my post up lol. What's up with quick replies. What I mean is just copy the 150.PBP right to the letter of your PSP.

Inspiration

hey guys i dont know if anyone has tried this or not, but im in the middle of learning codeing. Have not got it kwit figured out yet but here is a idea for someone if they can pull it off Kudos. Kernal Change in the VSH menu on the XMB Im sure im not the only one that has been annoyed by the fact if i wanna play somethings not on a 1.5 kernal, that i have to go to recovery mode to swap it to the curent 3.XX. If anyone can give me some hints on how to make a patch for something like this it would be appreciated. If for some reason DAX reads this, guna miss ya man and i always looked forward to your work. Im just wanting a Kernal Changer in the VSH menu on XMB. I think it would go over great for the homebrew community. Any Criticism on this would be much appreciated.
by J Z - 2007-10-02 03:43:27
solution

You don't have to be annoyed as long as 3.71 M33 is the same as the rest. Just create a "GAME150" folder and a "GAME371" folder in the folder called "PSP" on your memory stick. Put any 3.xx homebrew in GAME371 and any 1.50 homebrew in GAME150, and it'll run no matter what the kernel is set at.
by coolguy5678 - 2007-10-02 04:26:55
yeah

It turns out M33 was DAX all along.
by iamback(unregistered) - 2007-10-10 11:20:57
btw,

just wanted to point out, you can already make the pandora battery without the patch, there is already a 3.xx pandora creator out. I've tested it and it works.
