Dark AleX's CFW PSP 3.80 M33 released *Update* |

We've had a lot of updates about this one (not to mention some PSP scene drama on the side), and now it's finally out: the highly-anticipated 3.80 M33 Custom Firmware for our Sony PlayStation Portables, from none other than the treasure vaults of Dark AleX and Team M33. After delays, bugfixes, and the occasional appetite-whetting, we can now finally unlock the fullest potential of our own PSPs. Awesome!
If you've been keeping up with the news, then you'd know about the brand-spanking new features in this new firmware. But for the sake of completion, here's the changelog:
- HEN core: user mode can load now signchecked files from flash.
- recovery: flash1 format will create flash1 directories after format.
- This could fix some flash1 issues with the previous versions.
- Network update from dark-alex.org page. By default is enabled. You can turn it off in recovery (when off, network update will download sony updates as usual).
- Nids resolver for various kernel libraries.

*Update* We hear from NorthenFusion in our forums that Dark AleX has given some clarifications on CFW 3.80 M33. As some have reported, they've already encountered some problems upon installing the latest custom firmware. Here's what DAX has to say:

thx jusor, i've been missing out on this stuff lately and i wanna play some of the latest games and get into it again. however can someone just tell me what the best upgrade path from 3.03 OE-C to this one would be? i know that i can go from 3.52 M33-3 to this one without any problems, but how do i get there?

If you try to upgrade from 3.03 OE-C you'll just get a message saying 3.52 m33 is required.

Sorry for the double post. I just tried putting the same photo onto a 512mb card and it works fine. I don't think that it recognises 4gb cards anymore. Does anyone else have the problem with a 4gb memory stick?

same problem for me, with 4 and 8 GB sticks ,Message " no files" ( but they are still there). (btw. Pandora Batterie still works. So i downgraded from 380 m33 to 3.52 m33 4)
It does the same thing here after selecting the new visualisation and then coming back into the menu. It seems like it continues to use cpu cycles continuously... you have to load another song and then deselect the visualisation to make the xmb work fluidly again.

Why does this installation not reqire you to get the 150.PBP? Does this mean it can't play homebrew?

my 8gb mstick shows files to me,but when clicking on photos/music it lags a bit on xmb,what imma do is,ill try to reformat it through psp,then see whats teh difference
DAX only told them not to release a statement saying "Will be coming out soon!" or post some binaries that were "released" before, as those were usually fake. He said that he will only release on his site... meaning once the CFW is on his site, all sites are free to host it. besides, I'm sure DAX will appreciate the fact that not as many people are hammering his site.
ill try to reformat later,maybe its because of the memstick.. not sure though,im using 8gb btw.. so its a bug(?)
Just updated to 3.80 M33 on my PSP SLIM. It took a long time but it was worth it. : )

Is homebrew still playable on 3.80 M33 because it doesn't ask you to get the original 1.5 firmware? Help needed.
Everything works good except you cant change your opening_plugin.prx Not really a big deal but thats the only problem I found with this CFW. Everything else is great.
hey guys, i just found a solution to homebrew (not showing) just create a folder called GAME380 and move all the files from game371 to game380, that's it.

I don't understand the importance of people wanting 1.50 Kernal, the majority of hombrew now works without it because the kernal is always accessable in the newer firmware IE 3.80 kernal is accessable we dont need the 1.50 kernal in order for homebrew to work, implementing it all the time takes space for what could be potentially better features. Or leaving the space so we don't need to take stuff out, like location free player keeping the originality of the system, regardless of the fact weather you use it or not. I hate having that icon there if it serves no purpose (meaning clicking it and it does nothing) If I got the idea wrong then someone tell me, what is the real purpose of everyone begging for the 1.50 kernal?
It is to make sure you don't lose power during installation. It has to be 75% to be really safe. Nobody wants their PSP to brick or something if it lost power during installation.

the popsloader prx is just for optimizations. basic ps1 gaming still functions. ff7 and gran turismo 2 works, as well as the multidisc functions

THE Memory Stick should have no Label. In Windows, select properties of the Drive with the Stick and delete the Label (Name is empty) now it works for me (sorry for my bad english) hope you understand, maybe i could help
...I've been waiting like a week for this CFW, and it doesn't even read 4gb memory cards. That's bull**** Guess I'll wait a little longer on 3.71-2 if that's the case. What brand of 4gb card do you have supersteve? It's not fake right? This sucks. I wonder if that's fixed in 3.80--2 and just not stated as so in the read me. That's a pretty big let down for how much I was looking forward to this. Where is your god DaX now?

i have 3.71 m33-4 and i can't update. i have official 3.8, renamed it, put it in the update folder, put that update folder inside the game folder, the updater ran fine, 3.8 update verified, pressing X just returns an error saying my system configuration does not appear to be correct (error DRNFFFFFFCD).. is it maybe because i removed the japanese font?

try to make a folder to your desktop then save the file to it, i just did it a while ago, hope it will turn good to you too.

found out what's wrong, you have to unpatch key 5.
there was nothing there that says you have to update official 3.8 before updating to 3.8 m33. it says download the official update, rename it to 380.pbp copy into the update folder and then update. i guess you have to downgrade to something lower, use pandora and the update correctly next time.
As much as i love custom firmwares, installing it right now is way too risky. So many possible undiscovered bugs, and so many updates...best to wait 2 months before updating

I dunno if my psp is messed up or not but i upgraded to CFW 3.80 m33 and it was working fine but when i tried to change the theme (which i kno how to do) it stopped copying the files halfway and said that the disk is full, when i tried to turn on my psp the green light comes on for about 15 seconds and shuts back off...nothing on the screen comes up...i cant even access the recovery menu or anything what should i do
I think I'll split back to 3.52 M33-4. I ran into lots of problems with PRXs and the SCE will NOT disable. I like HOME button for vsh menu anyway. I use 'select' button for photo/video switch mode on PSP go!cam. It aggravates me seeing vshmenu come up instead. IR Shell doesn't work yet for this FW. good job on this CFW but eeeeh...not for me. A Radio isn't that much worth it. besides there's PSPradio!! wooo

yes, use a pandora batt, downgrade to 1.5 then install 3.80 M33 then 3.80 M33-2 (use network update to go from 380 m33 to M333-2 if you have Wifi, I just tried it and it made me giggle!)
first, you have to install a custom firmware. A pandora battery and a magic memory stick with Despertar del Cementerio V3 will work on your PSP. After that, you can install 3.80 m33

Thank you DAX and M33 you are are truly an inspiration. I was dumb and way too quick to replace the topmenu_plugin.rco with custom theme now my psp will boot to a menu with no icons just battery. Recovery Console works but I can't get the eboots to launch so I can't downgrade back to 1.5 either. Can anyone please help me I need the default topmenu created after the new M33 3.8 install.

I have just changed the name of my memory stick and it now works as it used to. ******4GB Sticks WORK**** delete the name of the stick first though.
I'm new to this whole PSP thing and I recently updated my PSP with Sony's 3.80 update. Now no matter what type of 'third party' software/firmware I try to run I get a '80020148' error including this new 3.80 M33 firmaware update. I've tried to rollback to a previous version first but that doesn't work either. Please help, What can I do?
you bricked your psp. Just use pandoras battery and downgrade to 3.71 m33 then you can update back to 3.80 m33. I dont think the custum themes for 3.71 work for 3.80

i have this error when i press on update 3.80 black screen and in white it says Verifying 380.PBP ... Cannot read the file anyone getting this how may i solve the problem I have been following exact steps even looked up videos on you tube following the video but still same error in brackets it says (0x80010002) any tips on that

hey I've been away from the psp scene for a while...I have Dark Alex's 3.10 OE-A firmware. I just want to make sure I do this right. Should my update path be 3.10 OE-A to 3.52 M33 to 3.52 M33 v2 to 3.52 M33 v3 to 3.80 M33? Or can I just go straight from 3.10 OE-A to 3.52 M33 v3 and then update to the 3.80 M33. I just need to know how to get to 3.52-3 without bricking my psp...thanks in advance.

It works great on my psp. Its better to stick with 3.52m33-4, or 3.71m33-4. Its better when comes to psx and psp compatibility. I was having sound issues with a certain cso on 3.80

sony's 3.80 and the 3.80m33 are two diff. firware.. thats why you cant update..

I already installed psp frimware 3.80 from http://www.us.playstation.com/PSP/About/SystemUpdate/pc.html Then my psp cant find iso files on my 4gb memory stick, but it can play the music. Man, the update specifically says during the installation that it's going to REMOVE the Location Free Player as well as the Korean font to make room for other things. Doesn't anyone read anymore?
Very nice. Thanks, Dark Alex. This is a great update. On my PSP, it fixed the problem with the wallpaper not staying after rebooting or entering a game. With the 1.50 kernel add-on, everything is great.

u probably dont have a custom firmware, is it just 3.72 or also HX (something like that)? If not, u have to downgrade

I'm really confused now. People on MaxConsole are telling me as long as you don't install the 1.50 add on, the locationfree is still there and works. I was under the impression with previous cfws that the locationfree was removed to make space on the flash0. Either way I just really want to make sure that either it works after the update or I can somehow reinstall it like I did when I installed 3.40 OE. Can someone give me some advice?
People should just get the installer like I did. It saves ALOT of head ache and does the work for you (as little as it is)
Ok, so i'm still fresh in the newb land... and have a inquiry. I recently have been attempting to go to 3.80 M33 from my 3.71 M33... now I had 3.52 M33-4 and could NOT worth the life of me go to 3.71 M33 without a Pandora's Batt. Now with 3.80 M33 released I again am having the same problems... I have tried several timesto get the installation to work, but it's not allowing me to get past updater program.. once i press x to start the update and it starts the sce updater... it tells me "config of my psp system is not correct and the update can not be completed call technical for service" Anyone out there have the same issue or anyone know how i go about getting by all this and getting my psp to 3.80 m33
I've tried serveral times, including trying the installer to get the update on my psp and every time i try and run the update, it plays the animation that always plays when you start something about 95% and then just locks up and eventually restarts.... any ideas???
Can I directly update my 3.72 HX-2 fat psp to this?
If it's a fat I'd recommend using pandoras battery to go back to 1.50, then update to 3.52 m33 then 3.52 m33-3 and then 3.80 m33 (or 3.71 m33 if that's what you want). Then again you might have a pandora battery

I have one question... reading from the readme txt i need to down load the sony firmware and re-name to 380.PBP. put it in the 380-M33 update folder....?
My damned PSP doesn't want to downgrade why!?! First it's 3.71 and I tried all Dark_Alex's downgrader but all of them won't work!! why!?! and now I tried it in 3.80 it's still not working!!! why pleaaasee! help me!

hey gents. New here. I'm trying to upgrade my Sony 3.80 to CFW 3.80 M-33...I'm getting confused as to what folder gets copied to where, and what gets named to what...every time I think I've got it correct, I get message on PSP saying: The game could not be started. Anyone have any idea....I'm quite sure it's something really stupid I'm forgetting or not quite understanding...I've read the read me file with the cfw, but still having same problem....If Im upgrading, why do I need the Original sony 3.80 firmware in the Update Folder? When I go to my PSP, it shows the 3.80M-33 file, but I still get that error I mentioned. any help would be greatly appreciated...Sorry to sound like such a noob, as you all like to say, but I am...thanks in advance
Hey, I gotta question.... I'm at 3.03 OE-B and some games now aren't working for me (Final Fantasy II). It comes up with this error: Game Could Not Be Started (80020148) I'm guessing that's because my PSP version is too old. Anyways, I want to upgrade to the latest version, can I go straight to 3.8 M33? or what order do I have to upgrade? Thanks for your help.

On Dark Alex's site there is up to 3.8 update number 5 already and the 1.5 patch for psp phat is there too.
Is there any way to upgrade to m33 from official fw? When (or if)3.90m33 comes out can I use update from my PSP/GAME folder? Pandora`s battery application will not format my mem. stick and says something about logical memory is more than physical memory and cannot handle it. formatted it before starting, followed the right prompts, cannot get further. Using 3.80 fw with sony 2gig. Tried it on my 3 computers with xp.
hey im havin problems installing--it did the same with 3.71m33. im at 3.52m33-4 and i copy all files onto memorystick and boot program. it boots but the screen stays black and eventually the psp turns itself off. its doing the same for 3.80m33---i dont wanna be stuck on 3.52m33 can anyone please email me with suggestions??? bradius_silkius@hotmail.com

i recently installed3.80 M33 and i want to chuck in the 1.50 Kernel addon. But for some reason, whenever i open "Memory Stick" in games on the XMB, it always says its empty. But i followed the same directories as in the readme file. any help??
