Great news guys! Team GEN's latest Custom Firmware 5.50GEN-D3 and 5.03HEN-C has already been dated and is scheduled to arrive this December.

According to MaGiXieN's post, the latest CFW 5.50GEN and 5.03HEN update will be released on December 15, 2009 and will feature an increased compatibility with the recently released games in UMD and PSN.

What's new in these new versions:

Both options are already installed and working perfectly.

Compatibility with games / demos from the PSN sold until Listed

Tekken 6, Gundam, etc..) - OK

Compatible with UMD games sold until Listed

(Tekken 6, Gundam, etc..) - OK

What's possible in these new versions?

These options are under development. We try to establish in the D3 but nothing is yet clear on these points.

Support for the new Go! Cam (with the fouls Invizimals) - Ongoing

This will enjoy Invizimals and Eye of Judgment. The addition of the compatibility of this new camera will be tried as soon as we receive our copy.

Support for the NIDS 6.0 - Ongoing

Yoshihiro working on the addition of 6.0 nests on 5.50GEN. This would launch SenseMe and Digital Comics. For the moment this possibility is in its infancy.

Network Update - Ongoing

It is posssible to update the custom firmware via internet.

I would've thought about switching to Gen f/w if it could get me access to PSN store or PSN online play. This update doesnt make alot of sense to me. It's not worth it to make a new cfw even though it has a new feature (even though the comic reader is pretty lame), but it is worth it to release an update each time the decryptor needs updating? Maybe some of the doubters around here are right that team Genyus cant make thier own cfw?

Very nice! I'm not too fussed about the new FW features like the comic reader, etc. But we do need support for newer games.

Sony are winning though. More and more I'm thinking about buying a PSP-3000 for OFW and keeping my 2000 for homebrew/emulators. All I need CFW for is portable SNES and now FFVII is on the PSN...

They actually have shown us that they've done 6.10 GEN-A, but due to incompability they decided to keep it on the shelf for a while.

It's not about piracy, there is more than that, new functions, like using the new go!cam.

Well, people love to complain but they don't see that they can't do what others have done, so is there really any point? Only dissing.

Ain't happy with GEN stay with M33, atm I'm with 5.00 M33-6 because no real update has made me change to 5.50 GEN-D2, but when 5.50 GEN-D3 comes I will.

Until they release a firmware that can access the PSN, I refuse to believe they have the ability to make their own. If I can't get on the PSN, I see no reason to update past 5.00m33-6.

And I'm not even one of the DAX loyalists here. I just want a firmware that can get on the PSN and allow us to actually buy games. Decrypters will let us play current games on older firmwares, so until they can make an actual update I see no reason to use it.

I have not yet made the change to go from m33 to gen. not because I am an m33 'fanboy' (Though I have the greatest respect for everything they bought to the scene) but because there has been no reason for me to change. Though now if GEN can pull of getting the new psp-450 cam to function correctly I will definatly be making the change.

Sure, he is maybe the one that has done the most for the PSP CFs, but he isn't active, and GEN is. They may not be as good, they may be as good or better. We really don't know. For me gen allows me to still enjoy latest umd games I bought and still have cfw. Without them I would have to pandora my psp everytime I want to run homebrew which is not something I would personally do.I would have ditch homebrew if it weren't for gen.

we can play all the brand new psp games because i just got Gundam vs Gundam next plus and it don't work haven't tried tekken yet I was going to update to D2 but I kept hearing about D3 and how it only works on that so i'll wait if thats the case but you sure its decemeber 15? and we don't end up waiting wayyy longer.

That's right. Out of maybe 500 games on the PSP, I chose the best of the best and rounded up somewhere around 25 games (a pretty big number) which sums up that 95% of all games are shitty. Except maybe if you're a 6 year old.

So get a clue ! Emulators are better and a pretty big chunk of those 200.000 games (NeoGeo, SEGA, NES, SNES, GameBoy, etc) are better. Way better.

I still have been considering updating my m33 to GEN but I haven't still yet found ne reason to since the newer games work on 5.00 m33-6 neways thru hacks. I was gonna buy another psp n just upgrade that to a GEN but now I haven't seen any reason to do so.
