The recently released Custom Firmware 5.50GEN-C didn't fare well with the PSP community because of various system freezes and other bug reports, but now it seems everything has been fixed and the new update is ready for upload.

Custom Firmware 5.50GEN-D is indeed complete and if everything goes on as planned, it will be released tomorrow, 21st October 2009, around 8 pm (French Time).

The latest update will include:
  • All features of 5.50GEN-B2 are available.
  • Compatibility with games requiring firmware 5.51 with no additional handling (now, you don't need Game Decrypter)
  • Compatibility with most of games normally protected and refusing to be ran on a Custom Firmware (Full Metal Alchemist, Soul Calibur, etc). Yoshihiro has created a system to run them and he succeed to make this system more stable and it's now compatible with all PSP, unlike the 5.50 GEN-C.
  • Possibility to connect at the Playstation Store via MEDIAGO, to retrieve game and goodies without having to install Fake USB or other complicated stuff.

» Hmmmm ...

Sounds good, just have a feeling something will go wrong ..

im still on 5.50 Gen - B .. So i have no problems .. i can run Gran Turismo nice and smooth

» Well

Respect them for their hard work but just hope they did some basic testing before releasing this one.

by sicksider - 2009-10-20 16:16
» Why?

To me, I rather choose Magixien to make 6.10GEN than wasting time making this patch since it cannot connect to PSN.

by nyr2k2 - 2009-10-20 16:48
» Hmm

I had GEN-C running within 15 minutes of it being posted, and it sucked, haha. I downgraded back to GEN-B2 yesterday night. And yet, I'm sure I'll test the waters of GEN-D as soon as it drops.

» Man...

I miss Dark Alex. Man was a *****in' genius.

by ov3rkill - 2009-10-20 17:27
» Great news!

I can't wait for the release. I just hope most of the homebrews and plugins are compatible.

by suckmyofff - 2009-10-20 17:31
» Just drop it already

It's obvious that he doesn't have the ability to make a CFW above 5.50. Yoshihiro is looking for a way to get around it, possibly might be the update for GEN-E. Just enjoy what he's making and releasing. If you think his work is a waste of time keep your opinion to yourself and don't download it. If you really want PSN access then upgrade to 6.10 OFW. I bet anything you're not gonna do it, why? Because you don't need PSN that badly. Besides, you could always use pandora, which is what I do if need to to quickly switch to 6.10 nand.

» Down with GEN

Up with M33!!!!

GEN SUCKS and all you people that say that we should keep our opinions to ourselves, ***** you!!!

Your the reason why D_A doesn't make CFW anymore.

by animebuster - 2009-10-20 18:34
» yeah i wish m33 were still making cfw as well but...

but right now gen is all we have untill Dark-Alex releases a new custom firmware

but im still sticking to 5.00m33-6 dark-alexs most resent cfw it doesnt take long to patch the most newest games for it anyway and its the most stable :)

» Stop Whining

For everyone that is just saying that GEN sucks. STOP WHINING! At least they are working on something to keep our psp alive. Everyone just whines that they want a new *****ing m33, want one? Start working and create your own!!! That's why D_A most likely stop working, because of the parasites, that want the CFW without doing a f***ing thing.

by rededbest - 2009-10-20 19:14
» True

Stop whining and update to 5.50gen-d. you can always go back to 6.00mm3 when D_A makes it. The guy named is a F**king idiot. what a LOSER

by yourmistakes - 2009-10-20 19:16
» not me

i'm not updating until we get a 1.5 kernel add on, i can't live with out my super mario war. if they realease a 1.5 kernel, then screw 5.00 m33-6; i'd be with GEN for a while.

by jolophi23 - 2009-10-20 20:30
» Just thank M33 and GEN

Come on people, why do you keep on complaining, and comparing M33 and GEN!? Both CFWs have their own pros and cons. It doesn't matter which one is better, as long as you're happy with what you're using, then that's fine. There's no need to say craps like "Gen sucks!" or "Screw M33". Just be thankful to the developers for providing us their works for free!

I know that we all love DA's works, I mean who doesn't? But let's be thankful to GEN for their efforts at least. And hope that this new update will solve the issues of the previous one.

by junesue1205 - 2009-10-20 21:11
» so with this CFW stuff

can you play infrastructure mode?

the only game i'm really looking forwards to is phantasy star portable 2..

and i heard somewhere that CFW = no infrastructure mode.

I hope that's a lie. and psp2 will have infrastructure mode which is amazing.

by ChaosX6 - 2009-10-20 21:29
» seriously?

CFW stops Infra. ...

I've herd some wierd n00b stuff before, I mean I use to mod a PSP site for about a year and yet, i can say that is the dumbest question I've ever seen.

Out of like the 2,000+ (the real number being much higher) questions I've answered I've never read a question that....LOL im done lmfao....

by auronvi - 2009-10-20 21:35
» there is a 1.5 kernal add-on

My emulators work fine even with GEN-C. So... i say give it a try.

» Fanbois...

Is there nothing safe from fanboyism?

by auronvi - 2009-10-20 21:39
» so...

What ChaosX6 is trying to say is...

No... you can't use infrastructure mode with a hacked psp. Just like you can't play online with a hacked version of a PC game, or xbox game, or ps2 game, or dreamcast, or wii...

by MickMog - 2009-10-20 21:53
» lol

infrastructure?? lol...thats allll im sayin!!

anyway,GEN's getting the same flak DA got when he left a bug in CFW, how many bricks did DA make before we got recovery mode u reckon?

its called progression &if you dont have positive feedback you got slow progression....now if u chimp ass fanboys cant understand that then u just gotta GROW UP a lil and youll see ;/

by misthero - 2009-10-20 22:17
» don't bash gen

they are doing a good work and keeping the scene alive, I agree D_A cf where on a different level, and maybe gen has not the ability to do an entire cf from scratch. They do what they can and you should appreciate them for it, they are doing it for free anyway.

Anyway i would like to hear something from dark too, I miss him.

» Gran Turismo

I wonder if GEN-D will allow me to play Gran Turismo?

It freezes at startup under GEN-C on my PSP :(

by Foolmonkey - 2009-10-21 02:20
» @auronvi

Not true at all. Only games that use PSN to sign in (very few) can't be played online. There are huge majority that CAN be played online. All EA games for instance can. Do not speak if you don't know what you're talking about.

by symbyosis - 2009-10-21 02:37
» I don't see why people are so passionate about m33 anymore

its obvious Dark Alex has 0 interest in programming, while greatful for his previous works, I'm saddend that he's let the FWs go 1.10 levels over where he last left off. I still enjoyed using 5.00 m33 and everything before it, BUT team GEN has been putting out the fws and I guess I have to stick to them from now on.

by Humpfreey - 2009-10-21 03:31
» well

DaX has said on several occasions he would leave the scene only to come back, this time looks forever though as its 9 months and counting.

He has left a huge body of work and made the PSP into a great handheld with all the homebrew developed for it, so he has my eternal thanks!

GEN are a capable crew with a friendly positive attitude so lets all hope they continue being interested in the PSP and PSP2 when it arrives (!)

by HirogaX - 2009-10-21 04:24
» 7.00 the return???

I wonder when the PSP reaches firmware 7.00, I think Dax might return with a new fully loaded team... well thats my opinion... anyways as long as any custom firmware works I just have to test it, + well I'm still waiting for Gundam Seed Destiny for PSP xD or a port maybe?

by sickofitall - 2009-10-21 04:56
» @ auronvi

can you provide a link? There is homebrew that does not require a 1.5 add-on, but I have not seen the add-on released either.

I was using it for NES and SNES emulators, but guess we don't need it for SNES now.

by tobyo1 - 2009-10-21 05:44
» WLAN

Will this update fix the problem with WLAN, where on WPA connections it can never connect? It just eventually times out :( very annoying. Just upgraded from 5.00M33, kinda missing it. That said, I appreciate the work of team GEN, and am pleased I can play the latest UMD games, ty a lot.

by iamshadow - 2009-10-21 06:06
» Yeah

Out of the 30+ PSP Games I own, only 2 cannot be played online. They are Resistance: Retribution, and Motorstorm: Arctic Edge.

All my other games like Killzone: Liberation (best PSP game ever) and Starwars BF2 work online.

by iamshadow - 2009-10-21 06:11
» @ HirogaX

Maybe he will team up with the GEN team and have 7.00 G3N *hopes*

I'll wait for a few days and read some comments once this is actually released, then I will decide if its really worth it to upgrade, since GEN cant do anything I cant do already...Just wait and see i guess...

by strizzmatik - 2009-10-21 06:45
» Unbelievable

Can't believe people are still *****ing about GEN compared to M33. It can do virtually everything M33 can, with a few extras other than load 1.5 games, which is a moot point since almost all major homebrew has a 3XX version. FatMSMod takes care of 80% of the MS speed. DAX is most likely retired or moving on to bigger and better things. Get the f*ck over it and get with the times, GEN is clearly the CFW of choice for right now.

by sickofitall - 2009-10-21 07:07
» i thought fatmsmod,

only displayed the ms speed for games.

I did find another tutorial to help speed up the ms:

http://www.gamerstyle.com/forums/psp-tutorials/16129-tutorial-how-speed-up-your-4gb-memory-stick.html

by Bountyhunter53 - 2009-10-21 07:07
» One thing.....

misthero, even if you make a petition for im to come back. He isnt forced to read or even come back at all. Don't see the point. But damn DA was good. But at least were scraping past with GEN.

Btw Yoshihiro is a new person to the scene i think.....anyone thinking......DA's notorious alias thingy again?.....Like M33?

by RSX46 - 2009-10-21 07:16
» M33

I will be staying with M33...

» ***** Dark Alex

***** Dark Alex that piece of ***** turned on us!!!! ***** HIM GEN IS THE FUTURE DARK ALEX IS A TRAITOR PIECE OF *****

by tobyo1 - 2009-10-21 08:11
» Calm down

Dark Alex did some fantastic work for the hb community, he was never obliged to do his great work, he merely did it out of charity and wanting to share his good work. He is not our slave, and he has done us wondeful favours, if he wants to quit now it's a shame, but it is his choice and a choice you must respect, after all he's not our slave.

Peace.

by DatGoodJ - 2009-10-21 08:21
» tobyo1 no

Dark Alex doesn't deserve respect because if he truly cared he would be still making CFW but he doesnt so **** him he can go die

by sandeep4010 - 2009-10-21 09:01

» released now

on pspgen !!!!

by KingPepper - 2009-10-21 11:32
» Didn't you watch the video................

The video connected to this very thread, it shows Yoshihiro playing the GT PSP UMD itself, and working perfectly, come on guys, give these people a break.

After this GEN-D is released, the Gen team are going to tackle the problem with the PSN not connecting, also this release is going to work with all games released so far (.iso/.cso / UMD's) you name it, and WPA connecting with the internet PSP browser, AVC playback has been corrected, if they include a memorystick speedup as well, then to me its perfect, so people you have no reason to whine, anymore.

The Gen team said sorry to all of us, for the last release, being buggy, i for one will be looking forward to this update.

My thanks go out to the Gen Team for there continuing efforts.

by KingPepper - 2009-10-21 11:40
» Of course........

All UMDs / .iso / .cso.

Yoshihiro is definitely not new to the scene.
