Custom Firmware 1.50: Media Edition |
Ó
The concept of creating a custom firmware package that will allow the best of both worlds above and below the 2.0 mark has been around for a while. Thanks to GameShark that's all starting to change. He has created the first "custom" firmware package that has all the abilities of a 1.50 PSP, but has the added media capabilities and codecs of 2.0+.At the moment, you can only run this custom firmware using MPH's Firmware Launcher. Do not try to use this package as an actual upgrade. Here's what GameShark had to say:
Features
1.5 - Full HB
2.0 Media Fetures
This is a Beta If there are any problems Just Let me know
I hope to add 2.0 UMD support to the next release
Also next release will be pacaged so that it can be added to an existing 1.5
Right now you need The MPH FW Launcher

Good point, so PSP Updates should go ahead and start hosting ISO's and guides, I mean either way the same infringements are happening...
Actually ISO's are indirect infringements to sony, and dumped firmwares are direct infringements to sony, so think...
BTW this this is useless, as i said before it pointlessly reformated my 2gig card, now was that really useful...
WARNING!
The RAR File contains Sony copyrighted materials illegally decripted.
That's a fact...
wrong completely it is not circumventing the copyright protection unless you can prove the people getting the file are those who do not already have it to whom the DMCA does not apply which you cannot thusly you are wrong also like you said revers engineering CAN be illegal in rare instances and is ALWAYS circumventable look up modchips pal and have a nice day :)
p.s. why did pspupdates get that crappy QuickJump,if formal on wasnt enough, even after being registered on QJ-cant resume damn download, pisses of
"We do not support piracy or advocate creation of any illegal software" - A quote from the PSPUpdates post on the news of the first PSP ISO.
Correct me if i'm wrong, but this is illegal software.
It's good to see PSPHacker back to normal again.. I was getting worried with all these lame changes like "pspupdates" and "qj.net"...
>>Mantis at 8:02PM
I can't quote the specific law for you (I'm sure Google could help you there), but it is illegal to make and distribute copies of copyrighted software. Period. This is why ROM sites are shut down all the time. This is also why PSPUpdates doesn't distribute the unencrypted versions of Sony's updates. The encrypted versions are freely available from Sony and any other website. The unencrypted versions, if distributed, may contain copyrighted materials that could get PSPUpdates sued by Sony. Since we all love QJ.net (why the hell else would you be here?), we wouldn't want them to get sued.
Because this "Custom Firmware" contains several of the unencrypted files from Sony's updates, it could be infringing on Sony's copyrights. Since QJ.net is distributing copies of Sony's copyrighted materials, they could be in pretty hot water, both legally and morally.
Ok to all you people that are b*itching about how the firmware is illegal, just stop. I don't support piracy like ISO, but this is reidiculous. If you don't want pspupdates to let you download *illegal* firmwares, then what will this site do when custom firmwares become a big thing? Everyone will migrate to differnt sites to dwonload those firmwares without dumbas*s restrictions you guys are trying to impose.
And this is a big thing( even though it dosen't work), if pspupdates dosen't have it then aren't we missing out on the best things just because of your legal issues? Stop complaining about this kind of crap..
Sounds good:)
Deadly for psp ?
cojonudo, lo unico que lo mismo luego no podemos actualizar nunca mas por que se nos ve el plumero. un puntazo
good job. no it wont hurt your psp. no its not a downgrader. no you dont update with it. no it only works for 1.5 and maybe 1.0. yes this is only a BETA. no its probaly not perfect. what else...
how to use then ?
Former_PSPUpdates_Webmaster is a known troll here. This firmware cannot damage your PSP if used with the MPH Firmware Launcher because the firmware package is being emulated, not flashed to your PSP.
For troubleshooting or other questions, go to the forum thread linked to in the news post.
wow, gameshark said he'd do it and he did :D , i have everythin setup then i get an error message for all the PRX files.. ill chekc over until i have it right, but all the best to gameshark on his releases
I'm sure the Recording Industry Association of America is very interested in PSP firmware updates. At least troll intellegently.
On topic:
"I hope to add 2.0 UMD support to the next release"
Yes PLEASE!
"former_pspupdates_webmaster", talking **** YET again i see, dont worry all you posts will be gone soon.
RIAA, oh yes this is right up their ally isnt it you moron, after that expect ATF.
bring on quake2 whoo!
Nice, I've been waiting for this.
Breakthroughs all around!

Former_Pspupdates_Webmaster is a lying idiot. DONT LISTEN TO HIM.
MPH firmware emulator does nothing at all to your firmware. It is a simple emulation. so there is no worries with doing this.
I hate people who try to ruin good stuff with immature lies so as to get attention.
Quote "At the moment, you can only run this custom firmware using MPH's Firmware Launcher. Do not try to use this package as an actual upgrade."
This isn't worth squat untill you can flash it. Currently you are better off using the standard 2.0 or 2.50 firmware launched with MPH's Firmware Launcher because they do more than this crippled custom firmware does.
Wooooo!
Can't wait for the UMD support
Long live Homebrew!
UMD Movie support is already here using 2.0 & 2.50 firmware running on the same MPH Firmware Launcher as this custom firmware. If you think your going to get 2.0 Game UMD support from this custom firmware you are sadly mistaken.
hey does this have a webbrowser??
No Web Browser. Just 2.0 AVC codecs.
yo i cant log onto the forum so ill post here... i know this is a great release, but im aving troubles loading it up on FW 1.5, i have teh folders:
- E:psp/game/mphfwlauncher + mphfwlauncher %
and E:flash0 and flash1
but i get an error when trying to load up, it cant load the PRX files , which im assumin will be the codecs? anyway if im doin anythin wrong please jus say it will help me alot :D
Oh yes!! I can see this release getting better and better with every version.
God i wish to see a 1.5 with all the 2.60 features. I have high expectations of this.
(So happy!)
Has any1 actually gotten this to play a v2.0 AVC coded movie? ive been trying for around 1/2 it boots and everything fine. but it acts like 1.5 in every way
ie in movies: unsupported data
what have i done wrong?
(and i have tried both movie folders, using the MAQ & MV4 names so far)
is this tung from oklahoma?
Lol i tried every single thing to get an AVC running with this FW but its like GiBBz said it doesnt work what a pitty!!!!
to maker:
can you please add the SXT version changer... cuz than we would mybe be able to boot 2.0 games e.a GTA :D
when booting this... the fw number goes to 1.5 and when using STX firmware changer the emulation stops as it flashes the flash0
sorry for talking crap ( prolly :P )
yeah, i played around with this for a while and none of the 2.00 media functions actually work!
So everyone this release doesnt work allot of people tried it without any success why is it released?
Hey....I tried to tell you guys. Just use the standard 2.0 or 2.5 firmware that is availabe. If you want to see more comments on this then go read the comments at psp-hacks.com. Same story there.
what a misnomer. "Extended Multimedia Capabilities" my ASS!! Damn **** doesn't play AVC encoded files.
Hey ed:...You want to play AVC encoded files on your 1.50 PSP right? Well all you have to do is use the standard 2.50 firmware and launch it using MPH's Firmware Launcher. You will not only be able to watch AVC video but there is a Web Browser too. Although the browser is a little buggy it is useable.
Her is where you can download the 2.50 firmware: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=IUVGEMDY
woooooooooooooooootage!!!!!!!!!!!!!
www.pspcrazy.com is teh 1337
Socal: yup, i know about loading the 2.0 fw and it kicks ass. Ya, the browser is buggy at best but it loads some pages before it crashes :). I just wanted to give this a shot and see what came out of it. I just gottan say, it's a waste of time right now.
If you don't like any of the files PSPUpdates host please feel free to get the **** out.
V 2.00 firmware plays homebrew..so uh..that's what i'm using
Ok peoples, this firmware was made so we could practicly stay in emulation for longer than we would whilst emulating 2.00+ ...
Since theres no homebrew whilst emulating 2.00, you should use this instead so you can remain in emulation, notice emulation protects you from all flashing, ( With the exception of the rumors involving using offical updates during emulation. ) Now remember its VERY SAFE, much safer than a downgrade or a version change... As it involves NO Flashing, hence its safe!
Now is there any browser? I have to check my self...
Wait a tick, PSPUpdates hosting a dumped 1.50 firmware? Wasnt that like against some rules, i fort that's sony copyrighted, dosn't that make it illegal or what?
It should really be a patch, to patch the 1.50 firmware...
Scuse me darklord, but i use this site daily, but i find the fact disturbing that they shun the slightest details of the whereabouts of a single iso file, and they do not even host the LEGAL iso dumpers/loaders.
But all of a sudden GameShark makes a "custom firmware" which is what everyone else above said, 1.50 with the single video prx from 2.00, which does create a great instablilty, and therefore formatted my memorystick, so its illegal, corrupt and useless.
Don't get me wrong i always use this site i even use its RSS feeds on all its consoles, but hey whats this single post, the only excuse given is "How are we going to progress with Custom Firmwares if we cant host it?" well firstly get some people with some skill ( Even I could do this ) to make a program that shifts the correct files from an authentic 2.00 dump to a 1.50 dump. ( I know no editing is required of any of the files as they are compounded so they corrupt upon slight editing. )
If anyone couldnt provide them selves with a 1.50 dump and a 2.00 dump, they wouldnt have the knoledge to even load up this illegal dump.
BTW the only other site i have seen with any form of decrypted ( reverse engineered ) dumps of the offical sony psp firmware is one that also had ISO's. Yep, an illegal site.
Fix this fast by removing this file.
We wont loose jack s#!^ cuz it don't work anyway...
I thank GameShark for trying anyway and hope he is no fraud...
And no i will not "f#ck out" of a community because a certain copyright law has been broken, i just wish to inform the staff, and make this community a PIRATE FREE community...
I thought thats what everyone here wanted...
A few things:
1.) This contains partial rips of both the 1.50 and 2.00 firmware. These files are under copyright, so you might not want to host them on your file site.
2.) There's no way that he'll be able to add 2.00 UMD game support, unless MPH figures out how to enable this in his firmware loader. Right now, the loader can only use the real firmware's hardware support.
3.) I'm not sure how much I'd trust this. On the original forum where this program appeared, GameShark was talking about how he could encrypt PRX files, which would mean that he has access to a copy of the official Sony SDK - or, at the very least, access to Sony's private key. Which means one of three things:
a) He's lying,
b) He has a pirated version of the SDK, or
c) He works for Sony.
All I'm saying is that you should be careful with this.
when emulating the 2.0 fm can i play gta? And if so what do i need?
SIGH!
I loaded up this firmware, firstly its very hacked, very illegal im assuming, its reverse engineered.
Then i try some homebrew, i try file assistant first, comes up with a huge error... then my psp resets.
My 2gig memory stick is reformatted...
How can that be explained?..
I had a heap of movies and songs and pictures i havnt got else where...
I don't think file assistant did this, as i have use it many times before...
LordSturm: This is exactly the sort of thing I expected to happen.
The MPH firmware loader only has *partial access* to the MS. That's why things like pictures and music don't show up.
It is not designed to allow the running of homebrew. It is essentially a brute-force emulation of the PSP's 'dashboard' and a few firmware features.
****ING BASTARDS
**** PSPUPDATES.COM BECAUSE THEY ARE HOSTING ILLEGAL PIRATED FILES SUCH AS THE FIRMWARE RIP THAT HAS OFFICAL COPYRIGHTED CODE BY SONY!!
AND IF THEY DELETE THIS MESSAGE, THEN IT PROVES THEY DO
FPW: I tiraded against this site in a similar way a few months back. You're wasting your breath. Just get over it and grow up.

CONTAINS FILES THAT ARE COPYRIGHTED BY SONY!!!!!!!!
THIS IS AN OUTRAGE
Can someone enlighten me whats the difference between this version released by gameshark and the actual MPHFL v1.37? From what I understand, MPHFL v1.37 allows you to play AVC videos and semi use the browser in FW2.0/FW2.5 already. If so, what changes are there that gameshark make?
Funny it seems alot of people on here are either lawyers or pre - law or something. a site that hosts backups (ISO's) of games that people download, (people who may own a copy of that game) is illegal??? really what law are they violating???? WHICH SPECIFIC LAW???? is it not legal for me to own a backup copy of something I purchased???? what if I do not yet own a memory stick big enough to dump my own games ( with huge pointless pad files) and I still don't want to spend 40$ (7% of my monthly rent)on a flimsy piece of plastic that Might fall apart despite the utmost care ( my tony hawk did I dont know if it was a defective glue job or what but the clear piece fell in and It was always in my psp or its retail case which were treated exceptionally no one will take it back of course) without being sure I will be able to play it as long as I like in whichever form I choose like faster loading from the memory stick, or "overclocked" to where they actually run smooth like they should seems some here would have us pigeonhold to sonys battery life problems. The point is these issues have yet to be specifically legislated the copyright laws you are referring to are ancient in terms of the speed of technological advancement. Thusly to say that something is illegal you better have a specific statute to quote that a lawyer (or n e 1 with common sense) COULD NOT easily argue does not apply to this specific situation or you have an opinion not a fact, an opinion thats validity has yet to be decided by our justice system ( as flawed as it may be)or you could cite a decision on another trial that applies here Thats what lawyers do and some of you must be since you so sure its illegal to host these files here and to host ISOs on other sites. The fact is what they host here is NONE OF YOUR BUISINESS! OMG thats right they don't force anyone to give them anything in return for this site or anything that they host its up to you to donate or not and thats where you get to show your opinion on this site if you don't like it DON'T DOWNLOAD IT! It's not hurting you any more than your comments caused me physical pain whilst trying to comprehend you ineptitude. rules to live by folks if you don't like it shut up and don't use it and if you can manage that then thanx you for helping contribute to an IGNORANT MORON FREE community. thnx :)
The goal here is to actually be able to flash this right? Not just use this as emulation, because thats rather pointless, but actually flash this as the firmware...
i really hope thats what these guys are working towards...
-Ash-
Reky, there's no point in using this. We've already got someone saying that trying to use FileAssistant under this wiped out his memory stick.
Anyways, this is a custom firmware, not a firmware loader. It allows you to run homebrew like 1.50 while still having access to the added image, audio and video formats 2.00 makes available.
And apparently it doesn't do that very well.
AshsToAshs: It'll never be possible to flash this firmware to the PSP, because the PRX files have been decrypted.
nightrose, you have mistaken.. what i am trying to say is that i am aware of the existance of MPH firmware loader and its capabilities. However, what exactly is the difference between the custom firmware media by gameshark and the MPHFL or are they simply juz that same? Right now, i am able to successfully load up the emulated firmware and its great but correct me if i am wrong here.. if gameshark's custom firmware media version and MPHFL v1.37 are the same, isn't gameshark simply just annoucing MPHFL v1.37 to the public?
God i wish to see a 1.5 with all the 2.60 features.
Same here man, that would be AWESOME!!!
Anyone know if Grand Theft Auto Liberty City Stories will work with this on 1.5?
Mantis: You want a specific law? Fine. The Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998 makes it illegal to provide access to methods that circumvent copyright protection. By copying a UMD disc to a PC and hosting it on a web site, you are providing such a method. Therefore, you have violated US copyright law, and are liable for up to $150,000 per copyright violation.
It is perfectly legal to make a backup copy of your own games. It is illegal to make these backups publicly available.
Also: Under US law, reverse-engineering a patented item can be infringement. The Sony firmware upgrades are likely patented items.
reky: MPHFL is not a firmware. This is. They aren't even relatively close to being the same.
JT: No.
I can't get this thing to work, every single time it can not load the .prx files....hmmmmmmm......
Sigh, you clearly dont get the point, i dont care that this is here, i dont care that your here ( i should damn well.. ) and i dont blatenly care about getting real legal action happening...
That would be stupido...
All im trying to get across, is if PSPUpdates continulsy disses everyone that relates to ISO's and just then you were DEFENDING it, WTF do they just go out and release a reverse engineered update, which is illegal, because its been decrpyted, not because you should pay for it...
O kmon... Just c the point, no law needed...
