Countdown? 3.30 OE custom firmware on the way in 2-3 days?

PSP-Generation claims Dark_Alex's planning to push 3.30 OE custom firmware out the receiving door within "48-72 hours". Given the timings between the news on April 1 (it's just a calendar date, after all), and the 3.30 decrypter, this claim is quite credible on the best analysis.

The devil is in the details, though. PSP-Gen explains that Dark_Alex found 3.30 using up quite a lot of the PSP's flash memory, which is complicating efforts to add bonus functions. Hence, the 48-72 hour thing: he's trying to make up his mind between releasing 3.30 OE as is, and add bonus functions through patches later, or release it later with the bonus functions built in.

Well, so far as current PSP games aren't demanding 3.30, maybe it can wait, but with the improvements to movie playback...

I think I'd rather just wait for the better version. DA does awesome stuff when he does it for a set time. It'd be great to see what it'd be like if he put everything he wanted to into one firmware.

Still don't see why he hasn't used the memory stick to store parts of the firmware yet, but I suppose as it woud be a quick easy way to solve the space problems, so he must have some reason for not resorting to it yet.

That said, I also can't wait for it to come out >_

the most important virtue here is patience. Custom firmwares don't just pop out of the ground, there is a lot of work that goes into them...

i am all for 3.30 oe, but let us all be patient, and let Dax do his work. Besides, there is absolutely nothing wrong with 3.03 oe-c.

(btw I just wonder if Sony put a bunch of useless junk in the flash just to fill it up)

What improvements to movie playback have been made in 3.30 that aren't in DAX's OE firmware already? You can already play back movies at the PSP's native resolution.

Quite frankly, the ability to play anything higher than 480x272 is utterly useless - the video will simply be downscaled to the PSP's resolution, the file size will be significantly larger, and the picture quality won't be improved any at all.

Anyways, keep up the work DAX! You rock.

The update would include any of sony's features that may be slightly more polished then the features produced by the homebrew community. The post hints at better movie playback, and yeah there are homebrew apps for improved playback, but they seem to have limits and crash a lot. so maybe this update includes a change that crashes less and is more consistent on that front.

...with bonus functions in it. I don't like updating constantly. It's not that I'm really paranoid about the flash, it's just slightly inconvenient to get out the old USB cable, connect it, put the files in, attempt to flash it only to realize you have to charge it 75% before you can, etc. I mean I don't mind waiting if I have to wait an extra week only.

because there are no really big functions.

So as long DaX doesn't add new functions, it's useless because in 3.10 OE-A' you already have nearly all functions of 3.30, I never had problems with POPSgames

and about this thing with the Hotspots.....

I'm from Germany so that doesn't interests me at all....

It's not I don't respect DaX work, man HE'S A GOD FOR ME!, but I simply have no reason to upgrade yet.

I will stay with 3.03 OE-C (1st PSP) and 3.10 OE-A' (2nd PSP)

Not to brag about stuff, but seeing as this is 3.30. A lot of it's 'new' features will be primary targeted towards Playstation 3 owners.

Taking that I own a Playstation 3, I've found that I've used my PSP in conjunction with my PS3 only twice and that's because the first time it simply did not work.

If you do away with Location Free, Remote Play, Online Instructions, and even Game Sharing (Never had a game besides Syphon Filter that was capable of doing that) you could free up a ton of space on the new OE.

A side note though... I think what Dark_Alex is doing is simply amazing. I could only see this as going forward. I'm also more than capable of doing the same, but I fear the public eye.

What are you talking about? I thought UMD firmware-requirements were overruled already in 2.71 SE-B'' for the GTA: Vice City Stories release. If I insert a 3.30 UMD in a 2.71 SE-B'' PSP (actually I have 3.03 OE-C, but just for the example), it should run perfectly. Doesn't every UMD game run on OE, no matter what OE-revision and no matter what UMD firmware requirement?

I have a PSP fw 3.10OE-A' withc runs ISO:s and CSO:s whithout UMD, there is a use no UMD option in Recoverymenu and it workin perfectly on my PSP. I can take a video of it if you want and I can also send my flash files if it helps you.

my advice would be to wait and add bonus features firtst that way we wont need to do a complete update when he adds new stuff as dont think 3.30 is leaving dark alex much room to play with if he adds most things in his first release he might be able to update it through little patches then there is less chance of bricking p.s hope we can fully edit the top_menu and so on.

I see no reason in getting this if you have any other custom firm or v 1.5. I mean, 3.30 is not that much better. Since I just starting getting into this PSP hacking, I accidently updated to 3.30, so I am Happy.

But the rest of you guys should just be happy with what you got and hope to God you don't brick your PSP.

I think you got the message mixed up. UMD Games still require a certain firmware, but there still nothing that requires 3.03 and up so.... 3.03 OE will be fine.

The movie playback? Read the 3.30 improvements. They added a higher resolution. upt to 780 x 480 I think. Or somewhere around there.

Until Now there are no such words as downgrade for PSP above 3.03, people just swearing allmost all forums I have entered. Me myself on 3.10 cause it was what I got when I bought it (GOLD PSP). an emulator for a console has to be able run nessary files to pretend to be the console. so you will need for example a ps3 to run xbox 360. I mean come on get real there isn't enough power to run a ps2 emulator on the PSP because as i said it needs power to emulate

and OE firmwares come with a recovery mode, making it very easy to go to any official sony firmware you want (1.5 is the likely choice)

The one good thing I can think of is if you already have an AVC, mpeg or other 3.30-readable file, you don't have to waste the time re-converting it for PSP viewing if you have the extra space to waste and don't mind wasting it.

Just want to fill you all in on something.

First off I could tell this was a rumor.

Here is why.

first off DAX and his team usually post this kinda news on their forums lan.sh and exophase forums. (thats their favs aside from lan.sh that one they own.)

Next, look at previous oe releases. They all have a certain release pattern that this did not follow. ( i will let you do the research on that one)

Now that thats over let me leave you with this thought.

Please do not get upset with DAX. This is in no way his fault as he has said nothing of a release or that he was even working on it. This was just a rumor which sparked from misinformation and the hype of the possibility. If anyone is to blame it is the person who FIRST posted this topic. QJ isn't entirely to blame but they should at leave have the decency to VERIFY a claim before posting it and getting the community in a feeding freenzy for a new toy that hasn't even hit the shelves yet (expression people try to have some humor)

So relax. Trust me when this gets worked on (if it gets worked on) you will know it.
