Needless to say, the title says it all. A quick visit to Japan's official PlayStation site reveals the release of PlayStation Portable firmware version 3.50. But enough of our dawdling - here's a translation of this latest release's changelog (pardon the Engrish):- It reached the point where you can connect by way of Internet in remote play.
- Communication setting was added to the menu of remote play.
- The RSS channel guide was added to the RSS channel.

I just downloaded the 3.50 US version 5 mins ago and just got done sending QJ a note about it being released in the USA over Network Download.
Its also available via Network Update now
do we need to upgrade our psp to 3.50? im running now on 3.40 fw of sony buy if you ask me what i want, i answer i want downgrader so i can put the custom firmware on my psp T_T *sob*

Well, it's finally here, the big 3.50. Let's take a look at our major firmware updates over the past:
1.50 - first exploited firmware
2.00 - many new features (the most of any firmware to date)
2.71 - popular among the custom firmware scene
3.01 - a few new features such as PS1 emulation
3.50 - the real deal. its all here now!

I'm nervous connecting my psp to my ps3 with a 3.50 OE on it. I eman even if Dax makes it totally safe, I'm still worried Sony might detect it and ban me. I only use hombrew for Pokemon now, so I'm not sure.

i dont egt why so many of u are so intent on sticking to custom firmware when homebrew and emulators are generally so buggy and crappy, and there wont be n64 emulation for at least another year and the ps1 emulationr equires huge memory space so its not even worth it.

Ah the logic of someone with an official firmware.
You see if you had a custom firmware, you'd know that most of your points are wrong.
In fact even the one point that makes sense is still wrong, you see there will never be a fully working N64 emu.
There are more about homebrew than games... in fact... the best thing in homebrew scene for me isn't the emulation... but I like the old snes game lol... but hate piracy sooo...
1. SNES emulation is flawless
2. GBA emulation is flawless
that both makes most of my fave games playable anywhere I go.
3. PS1 emulation is buggy I must say... i think FF8 still has it's battle-bug thingy... still most of the PS1 games are playable... which does make all the PS1 enthusiasts happy.
okay... so that's that with emulation... now let's see what else we've got...
oh yeah...
4. AFKIM - instant messanger which is hundred years better, than using eBuddy through the browser (even with the crappy portals out there)
5. eBookr - guess how I read the last 4 novels? Yeah... on the psp...
okay... so... let's just move along to the more geek part of brews out there...
6. PSP SSH - with that i could make some last minute debuging of my C++ homework, before sending it in. Yeah i know... it could have been much easier with a laptop, but I don't have the money for that.
7. Mac OS emulation, and x86 emulation... i actually won some cash on a bet, that i could load Win95 on my psp
and finally...
8. piKey - i couldn't test it yet, since like i said right now i'm out of cash... but it would definetly make browsing, and AFKIM easier... and u know what? piKey drivers can NOT be installed on official fws... so no keyboard for the PSP for you guys... nope ... NEVER .. .okay.. well... there are no signs of offical keyboard development.. so... too bad
ps: And I didn't mention ... *cough*ISO*coug h*
ps2: about that huge memory space... well 2GB memsticks aren't that cheap .. that's true.. but than again... with the 32MB memstick you can't even watch a low resolution 20mins video. Which i also what I use my PSP for... watching movies ... of course that can be done with official FWs
Why Sony does not focus on media content like Windows Media Video or Divx?? Will be cool playing DivX or WMV native on the PSP, don't you think?

I think this firmware is is more aimed at the ps3 owners. It will give us more functions through remoteplay. So save your pennies, buy a PS3 and hope the Dark_Alex brings out a new custom firmware.

Unfortunatly, I have to tell you, that right now eventhough the hackers are probably working on it.... THERE IS NO DOWNGRADER FOR ANY OFFICIAL FIRMWARE HIGHER THAN 3.03. So obviusly using newer official FW updates will make you're PSP (for the time being... or maybe forever) unable to install any CFW, and therefore no 'brews too you.

Maybe it was just my connection, but man, I could hardly do anything with the PSP on remote play with my PS3. Hopefully they will give us some hints cause all it did was basically stutter around. Good luck streaming video. Music is a little better. I can't wait for them to make improvements. It's a neat idea, but probably harder to pull off in the real world.
watching youtube is now possible, access remote play on ps3 and use the ps3 browser instead of the psp one and presto you can watch youtube but yes too many process involve. but its fairly easy. and sadly still cannot play wmv, mov, divx-avi or any other popular formats.

listen Shuin if you want to downgrade stay where you are i was at 2.80 and uped to 2.81 and the 2.80 downgrader came out next day, so pissed i continued to up all the way to 3.03 but just my luck the 3.03 downgrader came out, dont listen to snarg, i know its hard wait for downgrader but thats your only hope at homebrew, because if your at 2.81, you cant use a 2.80 downgrader, have patience and one day you too will use homebrew

...you can find manual updates for versions higher than 2.71 on the internet, download them, transfer them to the memory stick and install there without problems, right? Updating from the PSP itself only allows me to jump straight to 3.50, and according to some people, it's not worth the download.

Naw, couldn't be. When I installed my buddy's 3.40 OE for him, he had that icon along with another blue colored icon below it for updating. (Those were Not on mine when I installed 3.40 OE-A) but since he really had no idea what everything did yet I just said, "Just don't touch those."
I extracted and decrypted all files witjout any errors. So Sony doesn't changed the decryption code.

if you have payed attention they have been focusing a LOT more on the ps3 firmware updates,and as a side note new in this firmware is remote play.
Rss doesnt need a ps3.what it does is download an xml file,parse through it for new content,and if you click a content it goes the the place specified in the xml file to download it/stream it.you do need a ps3 for remote play,because it needs to listen for incoming connects that require that ps3 to intercept(it does remote play in prmiscuous mode,IE it sees all)
remember,dax is the same person that released both 3.30 OE and 3.40 OE,of which 3.4 wasnt much of an update.
I would guess he talking about custom firmware,and i would guess sony wouldnt give DA that privelage.
I dont think sony would want you to be able to watch the format that 90% of pirated content is on,and i dont think either you or sony want to pay a royalty to microsoft to buy the wmv codec,because its not free like wma,mp3,mp4 or avc.
There is a way to go back but its cheaper just to buy a new psp and install CFW on it.

gba emulation is not flawless, u cant play medal of honor on it (the killzone one not the crapp fps one). And snes emulation is far for flawless, starfox is absically unplayable, and u need frameskip with most games which result in games like metropid ur character being invisible after egtting hit/

Sony's lost, and they know it. why else do you think that they keep releasing feeble firmware updates only for security purposes. really, whts wrong with homebrew? they organize our files and distract us for long long long periods of time. Really long. they seriously need to embrce the homebrew scene. It sells lots of psps now. see how much psp 1.5's are going for on e-bay. at least 20 bucks more. and plus, lots of people think that piracy is lame. anywy, theyd just have to restrict iso and cso (etc. etc.) to destroy piracy. some people i know would like homebrew, they just dont want to risk downgrading. embracing homebrew would be sweet. They could sponsor others, add a playstation store with every ps1 game, hire dark_alex, fanjita, team c+d, etc. that would rock a lot. sorry fot the length but, sony, seriously, get the picture.

Sony will soon require new published games to have this latest firmware for no reason other than to make people upgrade, and then we will have a hacked firmware capable of running all games as well as homebrew.

first of all they cant ban u because they dont have a reason for it example- custom firmwares arent illegal or wrong. its only illegal if u use iso's. second of all dax cant make custom firmwares 100% safe-it writes to the ram for crying out loud and runs iso's off the memory card. and pokemon for homebrew. theres plenty of other good stuff not just pokemon.

fw 3.50 is officially out. Team`s C+D psar decrypter actually works as it decrypts the files but somehow it crashes during reboot.bin extraction, so i guess the psar layout must have changed. Instead two new files appear loadexec.tmp and sysmem.tmp. To be honest I dunno much about coding, any1 any suggestions?

I've had it happen to me every now and then, i think it is a glitch in the way the page is loaded. at first, it will say you are logged in as someone else, but when you post, it will post as unregistered with that persons id.
What version of the snes emulator are you using, about 99% of the games work fine, only the ones that run in mode 5 (correct me if i am wrong, but i believe it is 5?) don't work or barely work. these mode 5 games include mario cart, yoshi's island, and even starfox. other than that games work fine without frameskip. as for gba, i've played all my games at near full speed without any problems.

Keep the lowest firmware possible. ALWAYS. That way if a downgrader comes out and you need to upgrade you CAN.
