Just tried the compression with Hot Shots Golf 2. Original Backup ISO = 275 MB Playstation Store PBP = 143 MB Popstation Level 9 Compressed PBP = 174 MB Not sure what Sony does differently, or maybe they ripped some stuff out of the game. Either way, it's still sweet, and this will help a lot. I'm going to try with Crash Bandicoot next.

Crash Bandicoot Original Backup ISO + 602 MB Playstation Store PBP + 463 MB Popstation Level 9 Compressed PBP + 524 MB So Sony must have a special compression that's a little better. Not complaining though, because this is still pretty damn sweet. On another note, not only do these compressed PBP's work flawlessly, but they also properly pick up my save files from the playstation store versions. I'm only willing to test this on games that I actually own, otherwise I would test a couple more. So that's that.

I just updated :-) It is OK to install it with a moded topmenu_plugin.rco file. Do not flash an old version spoof to the flash (sysctrl.rco) It is different for all versions just to let you guys know. Is there a limit size for the .png used to create a .DOC file? Because after starting the game I try to open the manual created with the docmaker and there's a message that says " There is no software manual available" I already installed the version 3.03 OE-A and the game code is the same as in the Eboot file and still it won't recognize the DOC file. Does anybody know how to creat them so it can be recognized? Thx.

As soon as I saw this up, I downloaded the files and crap and got straight to it. Upgraded from 3.02 OE-B. Worked Instantly. And I'm partially drunk, so if you can't get this working then you're an idiot!

Problem and I'm not the only one

Why won't the background pic you set in 3.03 OE-A stay on the background after a power off?!?!?!?! This is anoying as *****!!! Here's my findings: 1) You set a background pic and on Standby poweroff when you turn the PSP back on the background is completely BLACK and the Theme setting is still set to Use Wallpaper. You set the background pic and on Full poweroff when you turn the PSP back on the background is back to the monthly choice and the Theme settings is back to the default of Don't Use Wallpaper. Tried a Restore Default which should have nuked F1 and reset it up. Still same thing. What the ***** is going on? F1 should have plenty of space. I'm guessing that the combo of 150/303 firmware somehow messes with the PSP's ability to interpret the F1 contents properly. Someone needs to verify my findings please.

DAX, if you read this your OE firmware's are great, and I hope in the next release you make it so we can change the BOOT and RECOVERY directories to other things like __SCE__BOOT and __SCE__RECOVERY and make them still work because I want to have the boot protector password protection thing auto-boot, but I don't want it to show up in my GAME menu, I also want to have recovery on my PSP at all times, but don't want it to show up on the GAME menu. Changed the background to something smaller (less then 100k) and it does the same thing. When you go to Theme and set the Wallpaper to use (even though it's already set at this) after a restart or shandby restart and it states THERE IS NO WALLPAPER SET. For some reason the wallpaper does not save to F1. What is going on here? Others have reported this same problem. I have nothing flashed to F1 or any use of PRXs or anything custom. Anything else you can think of?

You can set a background pic and then go to the Theme settings and switch the wallpaper to "Do not Use", then immediately set it back to "Use" and it thows up the THERE IS NO WALLPAPER SET. What the hell is going on? From what I can tell (because some settings keep like psp name and such) F1 is writeable, just not the F1 directory of VSH\Theme. I say this because that's the path for the wallpaper set in DH.

Yea, me too, but after first testing it with devhook I found out that if you dumped your custom topmenu_plugin.rco from 3.02 OE-X you can flash it right back on 3.03 OE with no problem (except those that already are with a custom menu) using psp filer (1.5 but I think the new ones works too, why shouldn't they?)

mine is the same just put everything to PSP/Game, i have a TA-082 w/ 3.03OE-A, and it works fine, if you dont have a GAME150 it just means that you DONT have the first generation motherboard...i think...but yeah ur fine you dont need to reflash anything...

Basically, you need to run it with the 1.5 kernal. By DEFAULT, the GAME folder in 3.02 OE runs a hacked, home-brew compatible 3.03/2.71 kernal and 1.5 needs a special user-created folder called GAME150 in the PSP dir. But, if you go into the registry and set the GAME folder kernal to 1.5, then you can put the files in the GAME folder. Hope that helps.

Yes, I tried that... that was the first thing I tried when I found the problem. I was expecting the BSOD on initial startup of OE-A, but didn't get it so I after noticing the wallpaper issue that was the first thing I tried.

Ok, This IS way better than Devhook. The installation is way easy also. I didn't even have to flash a thing, it is self organized. You got 3.03 firmware powers with the hombrew powers of 1.50 all in one. and when Newer firmwares are released by Sony, the update will be the same as always. So make sure you hold on to the 1.50 Update.pbp file. Kudo's to Dark Alex!!! Way to start off the New Year!!!

Are you sure you have the base.pbp and keys.bin file in the popstation directory? And if you're doing this from the command prompt like you're supposed to, you should just browse to C:/Documents and Settings/Bernard/Desktop/popstation c:/>cd C:/Documents and Settings/Bernard/Desktop/popstation Then your popstation command would only need to be popstation.exe FinalFantasy8CD1 SLUS00892 9 "C:/Documents and Settings/Bernard/Desktop/popstation/FF8 disk1.iso" You only require quotes if the argument has spaces in it.

it says you need to activate (as everyone should know). a program that would bypass this activation when converting the ps1 games to eboot.pbp would have been way better than this 3.03 OE-A crap.

How To Convert Your PSX 2 PSP

So sick of the popstation questions I’m going to puke…so here’s what you do: 1. create a folder called popstation in the root of your c drive 2. put all popstation files in the c:\popstation folder – if you do not know what files to use, you’re a moron – stop reading now and go play Atari 3. Use Slysoft CloneCD and make an image of your PSX game. Have the image created in the c:\popstation folder and name the image “image” (without the quotes) 4. When finished the c:\popstation folder will have all the required popstation files and a few files called image 5. Open the command prompt and type: “cd c:\” 6. The command prompt should now just have a “C:\>” 7. Now type “cd popstation” 8. The command prompt should now just have a “C:\popstation>” 9. I used Soul Blade so make modifications to the title of your game 10. Now type “popstation “Soul Blade” SCUS86023 9 image.img” 11. When you press enter, the file will process to create an eboot 12. When finished, copy the eboot and keys file to your psp game folder (inside the game folder, create a folder of any name and put the 2 files there) There are custom option available, so please read the readme that came with popstation

Undiluted Platinum?

I have a question and any help is appreciated. I'm always getting put under the pressure of updateing for the new features without waiting for the firmware to be homebrew enabled, and 3.0 and up has been homebrew enabled but you need to be at 1.5 to update to the great custom firmwares DarK_AleX has contributed. So I ended up homebrewless now. So I've gotten enough money to buy a Undiluted Platinum Modchip with the installation service, and I'm wondering if when installed, does the chip already have a firmware on it, and if at all, a homebrew enabled firmware? Because I think this would be a good investment so everytime I update I don't have to worry about not having homebrew since I can just have 2 firmwares at once. But I'll get to the point, I'm planning on buying the mod chip and using that to get the custom firmware. Does anybody with knowledge of the modchip think this is a bad or good approach? Again, thanks in advance for any help.

PPL WITH BACKGROUND ISSUES

The PPL that are having problems with the background after putting their psp on standby or shutting it down. I used to have that problem with the 3.02OE-A when it first came out. i tried to change different settings and still didn't work. i found out the only way to fix it is by recovering ur psp back to 1.5 firmware and re-installing 3.03OE again. i think it might be due to the data.dxar that was made. Just recreate the data.dxar. It worked for me so hopefully it works for you guys that are having trouble with the background also.

Everything gone fine. Upgrading from 3.02 OE-B to 3.03 OE-A and worked really great. And I'm using PSX2PSP to extract the ISOs from my already made EBOOTs.PBP, so I can create them again, with compressed games. :-D Dark_Alex, you rock, man!

If it's just that it's probably a write error to the flash or in the creation of the data.dxar file(?), you're lucky an error didn't occur somewhere crucial. Shouldn't X-Flash be able to fix it once a 3.03 OE version is released, most likely in the next few days

yeah, the recovery is just a app to take the UPDATE.PBP in the same folder and flash it to your PSP and you can run the program from any version so as long as you have a FW 1.50 (or maybe any version, I dunno cuz I just use 1.50 w/ recovery) update in the RECOVERY folder called UPDATE.PBP, it will work.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO UPDATE TO 3.03!!! the only thing you have to do is download both 1.5 and 3.03 firmware and rename them 150.PBP and 303.PBP and put them in the oeupdatemaker folder. Then Copy the folder oeupdatemaker and %oeupdatemaker to your GAME folder on your psp (if you have 1.50 version) or GAME150 if you have 3.02OE-A or B. Which makes me doubt something. What firmare do you have? You can check it by going to System Settings on your psp. Tell me what it says.

Well, did you rename both 150.PBP and 303.PBP? then you need to copy the two folders oeupdatemaker and %oeupdatemaker to the "GAME" folder on your psp. Ok, so you have the 1.5 and 3.03 update files. Rename them to 150.PBP and 303.PBP and put them both in the oeupdmaker folder And now run it. Make sure you didn't overwrite the eboot.pbp If it asks you if you want to update to 3.03 say NO, CANCEL, because that means you overwrote the eboot.pbp with the 3.03 update file.

Look for the RECOVERY folder, it might have come with your 3.02 OE-A download, if it's not there, download a different version of 3.02 OE-A or a 2.71 SE version and eventually you'll find one with the RECOVERY program. There should be the following files in there: decryptprx.prx, libpsardumper.prx, EBOOT.PBP, extprxs.PBP, and there MIGHT be a file called UPDATE.PBP, which should be a 1.50 FW upgrade renamed to UPDATE.PBP. If the UPDATE.PBP file isn't there, download the 1.50 FW upgrade file and put it in the RECOVERY folder and rename it to UPDATE. Now you can go into recovery mode with your PSP and choose Toggle USB then connect your PSP to your computer with a USB chord. Now transfer the RECOVERY folder from your comp to your PSP's GAME folder and, once it's done, click toggle usb again to disable it and then go to "Run program at /PSP/GAME/RECOVERY/EBOOT.PBP", which will start the program to reflash your PSP to 1.50. I dont know if the program starts immediately when you start it, or if it asks you to press a button to start cuz I can't remember since when I last did it, so plug in your PSP before you choose "Run program...". Once it's done, you'll have 1.50 and you can update back to 3.02 OE-B again or go straight to 3.02 OE-B

I think if you rename the Theme-PSP folder to RECOVERY and launch it and restore the default (I assume themepsp can restore original wallpapers/fonts/etc but I've never used it) of whatever you bricked, it'll be unbricked, or you can try to rename XFlash to RECOVERY and launch it and reflash whatever is corrupt in your flash. So just go to recovery and go to USB mode and put whatever on your PSP to try to reflash your psp so it's notr bricked ;)

I think it has to do with a messed up F1 on the nand. Question is... how do you fix it? The weird thing is that the wallpaper is the only thing that won't save. PSP name and other settings stay. One other thing I've noticed is that I can turn my volume all the way down and then hard reboot and my volume is back up to where it was before I flashed 3.03 OE-A. It changes back to that. It's almost as if some of the F1 registry files are read only. Also, when I set a wallpaper something flashes up really quick, but there's no way to see what it is. Something is definatly wrong here... wish DA would have put in an F1 format on the install of the firmware. That would generate the BSOD on reboot and force a complete build of F1. Something is not resetting when you do a Restore Default Settings for some reason. I want this fixed!!! Everything else seems ok.

I fixed the issue with the wallpaper not saving properly. It must have been some fugged up F1 stuff. Anyway, the fix is to somehow get your PSP to BSOD where you have to hit O to restore the defaults. Here's what I did to generate this... don't know if it'll work for you, but it did for me because I remembered it did it when I first setup DH .52 and then went back to 1.50 (out of DH). This of course is easy if you kept your DH .52 directories like I did in a backup before I installed 3.03OE-A. Anyway, put your DH folders back on your memory card and then just go into the 303 F1 folder and delete all the folders in it (so that it's the way it would be on a fresh DH install... i.e. no F1 configuration files or directory structure.) Then start up DH .52 and boot up emulating 3.03. On startup you will get the BSOD... hit O and wait for it to restart. Once it restarts get to the XMB and then HardPower your PSP so that it starts back up without DH running (i.e. don't put it in standby, hold power and then power back on). Once it starts back up off the NAND which is 3.03OE-A you will BSOD again. Hit O and let it restart. Once it's back up, set your settings and have fun. F1 is now fixed and the wallpaper stuff will work and save each time. Everything will be back to normal. I don't know why this happens and I don't really care... it's probably some kind of fuggup on the OE install. DA really needs to format F1 on the install as well so that on the initial startup in OE-X it BSOD so that F1 will have a fresh layout per the new firmware. At least this is how I would do it. Hope this helps everyone that had this problem.... cuz I know no one and I mean NO ONE on the forums found a fix for this except for ME. Spread the word if you need to giving me credit. Thanks

Hey, I fixed this...

Check out my posts on the second page on this thread. I forced a BSOD and this fixed it. Basically an F1 format would fix this... I had to force it. That is all that is needed. DA needs to format F1 on the next OE-X installs. It would keep this from happening, even though not everyone gets this... I don't know why it only happens sometimes, but it's fixed. Generate a BSOD either with my method or some other way and it'll fix your issues.

Yeah I have the same thing, it is total garbage now. I can't even stand to play it, battle menus flicker, can't read Tifa's limit breaker, no battle blur intro. As if a graphics layer isn't there, I remember having the battle blur lacking when I used to emulate ff7 on PC, and the emulator couldn't emulate all the graphics effects of the PS1. Also new sound glitches, different attacks will randomly lose the proper sound and have a dull static like sound. All in all I am more disappointed with 3.03 OE than I am excited for it, for the small bit of compression, it doesn't seem that this was worth it really.

FF8 oddity

I removed my UMD and FF8 is working a tiny bit better then it did with it! Instead of freezing when Diablos uses Gravajava it only freezes when selphie uses her limit breaks... but when it freezes I can press the home button I can go to the menu. (unlike before where as soon as Diablos casted Gravajava or zell went into his limit break the game would crash and shut off.) What does this mean? Oo

My psp's umd drive laser is dead and there is no way to repair my psp laser in my country{warrenty period expired also}. After that i cant play my umds. First I was using devhook with noumd mode but noumd support is only with fw1.5 in DH. When dark Alex released his 2.71 second edition with no umd support ,i thought that this is what i was waiting for. After updating to se-b/c no umd support compatibility increased. But when the new edition comes 3.02 oe-a ,there was very less compatibility with no umd support .but one big moment psx emulation. I was shocked,coz if i update my psp i can run my psx games but secrifice my psp games. After a long thought,I decided that I m not going to update to 3.02 oe-a . I can play my ps1 games om my pc but i cant play psp games.I know that Dark Alex is God for psp gamers.I also want to Stay with dark Alex's FW's but one request to DARK ALEX . To those who bricked their PSP's but can get into Recovery mode... the same thing happened to me. First, you need to get the RECOVERY folder that should have been included with 3.02 OE-A. You'll also need to get the 1.50 firmware, rename it to UPDATE.PBP Boot your PSP holding down R and Toggle USB, copy the RECOVERY folder over. X:/RECOVERY. Then choose the recovery option. If you still get a black screen follow further instructions. You'll also need the systemctrl.prx file for 1.50. Google for it. Then when in recovery mode: toggle USB and place the systemctrl.prx file in X:/REFLASH, go to advance options and choose Flash->Systemctrl (1.50). When done, go back and try to run the recovery option again. If it wirks, you'll be in firmware 1.50 again, then you can try reupdating again.

Wow, could you be more vague. I'm assuming the "it" in "it just flashes up real quick" is POPStation, which would have nothing to do with 3.02 OE-B. See, no one can help you with your problem if you're not telling us enough information. Primarily, what command you used. Also did you make sure the CygWin DLLs were installed properly (I think they have to be in C:/Windows/System32 or something like that, or was that removed from this version?) You know, it's things like these that convince me that EVERYONE should be forced to use a UNIX based system (other than OS X) for at least a year, so they'd learn how to file a proper bug report.

First, what you should be presented with is a DAT file, which is a generic binary data file. A DOC file is a MS Word file. The two are completely different. If you're ending up with a DOC file, I think you're doing something wrong. Second, did you copy the created document.dat file with the eBoot? I'm pretty sure they have to be in the same place, or at least created with the eBoot. Third, what command did you use to create the manual?

Well, seeing as this is quite possibly the most vague complaint I've ever read, it's hard to help you. I'm going to assume you tried to execute POPStation from the Explorer, as opposed to the command prompt (you should run cmd.exe to find it). Check the ReadMe file. ...And I don't even use Windows!

This is an issue with the PSP's PSX Emulator. You can't fix it with POPStation, and I doubt Dark Alex is going to be able to fix it. This would require intimate knowledge of emulation in general, as well as the source code of the PSX emulator, both of which I doubt DA has. Don't get me wrong, DA's a smart guy, but his expertise seems to be in circumventing cryptographic systems, and modification of binaries, which is VASTLY different from emulation. So, you're going to have to sit down, be patient, and wait for Sony to release an update for the PSX Emulator, and for DA to hack it. In the meantime, grab a copy of Final Fantasy Tactics, it's damn good, and there's plenty of gameplay to keep you occupied.

Its wierd my recovery menu crashed when i was playing with my plugins. thought i try something. i turned of my OCmodule prx for both VSH and Game. went back to my system info and it now says 3.03 OE yippee.dont know if this complete related to OC or just some plugins in general.

3.03 OE-A is complex enough. Figuring out the cryptography involved in doing things with a "kosher" firmware (read: official Sony firmware) is far more difficult than just modifying the firmware to ignore encryption requirements. And in my opinion, a stable downgrader for 3.03 and earlier would be more of a benefit than what you want, since OE runs homebrew, has integrated CSO/ISO support, has a Recovery Mode, and allows downgrading.

Use Hashes! Dark Alex was nice enough to include MD5 and SHA1 hashes of what the DXAR file should produce, so use them in the first place, and prevent all the trouble.

You can already play Kingdom Hearts 2 (and many other PS2 games) on your PSP! It's called Remote Play with a PS3. However, if you mean true emulation, without the use of a PS3, on the PSP, it'll never happen. Two major issues. First, the PS2 is SEVERAL TIMES more powerful than the PSP. Generally, your host system (the machine that's doing the emulation) should be at least eight times more powerful than the guest system (the machine being emulated). There are exceptions to this, but you can NEVER emulate a powerful machine on a weak machine. Second, PS2 games use single and dual layer DVDs. This means they can have a maximum file size between 4.38 and 7.5 GB. The largest MSPro available is 4 GB, and even then, the FAT16 file system currently used on MSPros chock on files larger than 2 GB. FAT32 can't handle anything larger than 4 GB. NTFS, EXT2 and HFS+ aren't options as Microsoft refuses to disclose any information on NTFS, and Windows users can't read EXT2 and HFS+ partitions. So, right there, you're never going to get your wish. Sorry.

It concerns Resident Evil:Directors Cut. Every so often, the screen will go into the Options screen (Like if you would hit start and select) only it would do it by itself whenever you turn a corner or something. No you can't use 3.02 OE-A, because simply it contains 3.02 and not 3.03 (and I think DAX has already done his mods by that point.. or rather his oeupdmaker), but good news is that if you just put iR Shell on you can run oeupdmaker via nethost/usbhost :D

Just wondering can 3.03 OE-A run homebrew, the same as 1.5 firmware psps? was not to sure, and if it can will i be able to run dev hook still? becasue my psp laser motor burn out a while ago and the only way i can play games is using the noUMD feture used in dev hook, so dont fancy upgrading to this to only find out i can no longer use homebrew games and apps, and can no longer play games, casue if that were to happen i would be left with a psp that would be as much use as a bricked psp. Sorry about that It's DAT files not DOC files I wrote it wrong in this comment. When I create the Document.DAT file I copy it to the psp in the same folder as my eboot and the keys.bin. I can't read the manual that I create, but I can read the default manual for hot shots 2. As for the command that I use, it's: C:\DOCMAKER>docmaker SLUS01295 C:\DOCMAKER I've been using SLUS01295 as the game code for that eboot.

Well i made this but it doesnt works. Until this Then start up DH .52 and boot up emulating 3.03. On startup you will get the BSOD... hit O and wait for it to restart. ...Since here all right but..it will restart and u will need to insert your configs..then even when u hard reset your psp in 3.03oe A it will not appear the BSOD and u will not need to insert configs..and the problem of 3.03oe-A wallpapers still there :|

You would need to copy the cmd of the directory on System 32, wheres is located in, "C:\WINDOWS\system32" and paste it on your Popstation folder. Run the cmd from the Popstation folder, and just type in, " popstation title gamecode compression level file.iso" It work for me.

Jarvis, 3.02 OE-B had a noUMD feature built-in to the XMB, so I don't see any reason why 3.03 wouldn't. Also, there should still be 1.5 and 3.02 kernel modes, so I'm pretty sure Devhook would work. I'm reading the README for 3.03 OE-A right now, which says it is very similar to 3.02 OE-B, so it should run any homebrew, and ISOs, you have. If not, you can use the Recovery feature to flash back to a lower firmware, like 1.5 or 2.71, but you shouldn't need it.

...You have to launch the recovery file when you boot up your psp. You do that by holding in the R-button. Then you should be able to change the 3.03 to 1.50 kernal. What that'll do is alow you to keep running the 3.03 firmware but give you access to use all 1.50 homebrew.

3.03 PSX emulator different

been playing FF7 and updated to 3.03 OEA, the battle menu upper left corner glitch is less noticeable, and Tifa's limit break seems to work now, but now the screen won't spin and blur when entering battle mode. same thing happens when I load the old uncompressed PBP so the emu code might be different. Hope someone at Sony is reading this while they work on the next update. BTW If PSP and MemStick sales boom in the next few months like I think it will, It will be directly because of Dark_AleX

Ok, I asked before but here we go again. How do I use my SNES, GBA & Sega emulators to play roms in 3.03 OE-A. Snarg said: "put your emulators in GAME150" I created both "150" & "Game150" in both "GAME" & "PSP" folders, placed the emulators in like normal and tried it both ways but got no results I recognized. Can anyone help me? I keep getting "The game could not be started (80020321)", I am using a legally backed-up copy of my dbz game "ISO format". Made a ISO folder in the root dir and placed it there, it shows up in my psp game, but does not play, am i doing anything wrong? Thanks in advance.

they are not called updates, their called firmware, and dont get them form sony. Try searching for 1.5 firmware and then (at same time) 3.03 from sony

soon there will be a down-grader for higher firmwares and dark_alex will have better custom firmwares. Heck, they got a 2.8 downgrader we just had to wait. :)

i found the option for NoUMD but when I am going to play my ISO it just turns into a black screen....also, does this support DAX format?
