3.03 OE-B Released - Movie Madness! |
Dark_Alex has just released his newest revision of his custom firmware for the PSP, Revision B of 3.03 Open Edition (OE). Seems like Dark_Alex has been more concerned about the PSP consumers than Sony is, issuing tons of new firmware updates (only updatable on 3.03 OE which was made possible by using firmware 1.50), so be sure to give him a huge thanks! With full resolution support for MP4-AVC videos (previously limited on Sony firmwares), you can now enjoy all your videos at "DVD quality" like it was meant to be. Having used PMP Player (which supported 480x270 resolution), this update adds the functionality directly into this new update.
You'll have to have 3.03 OE-A already installed onto your PSP in order to update to OE-B. Installation is easy as pie, just drag the PSP folder (found within MS_Root of the download) to your PSP's root directory and run the update eboot from your PSP's game directory like any other OE update which will only take a short duration since it is only flashing a few files onto it, not the entire firmware. Here's the newest additions to the world's greatest PSP firmware (at the moment) -
- Patched the firmware to allow decrypted mp4-AVC videos to play at 480x272 resolution.
- pic0.png was not shown in psp isos. Fixed.
- The speed functions were not dummied after setting the speed. This could cause the few games that set the cpu speed not to run at the selected speed in the recovery menu.
- Changed the structure of the program to have more free ram in game mode.
- sysmemp.prx removed, systemctrl.prx splitted into systemctrl.prx and vshctrl.prx
- Docmaker also now allows for 1000 png (images) to be used rather than the previous 100

were is the recovery folder it is not there ??????? when i press the right trigger get the menu but when u look in game for the uninstall or to unbrick ur psp eboot it is not there but it was in the 3.02eo-b or am i looking the wrong place plz help

Dark_Alex is the man....I was skeptical with the previous 2.71 OE updates, cause of the flashing and the posibility of bricking my PSP, but I just had to try 3.03 OE-A and everything works great, and now, OE-B...DA works fast. This guy is the man. PS....i read through the other threads on how ISO and CSO dont need a UMD to run...i cant get this to work, i start the psp and i enable no UMD but all i get is a black screen, can anyone help me with this.

I have been fiddling around with getting a keyboard to work with the psp. Using the fact that the USB can now host via. the camera update I have had very limited success. I am not a programmer I am just a hobbyist so I figured I would get some feed back on the idea.

Thank you to the entire crew that worked on this, Dark_Alex and everyone else. I love these custom firmwares; all of these features should've been availible from the get-go. It's excellent to see dedicated individuals take the PSP to the next level, and then some.
So how do you convert your movies to this full resolution? What do you use? PSPVideo9 only converts to resolutions accepted by the old firmware, right? How do you get full 480x272?
You can always go back to 1.5 with recovery.

Xvid4PSP should work just fine, I use it all the time to make amazing looking PMP files, now I'll just use it to make full res .mp4 files. Thanks to DA and Mathieulh and anyone else involved...still using 3.02 oe-b, guess I'm gonna have to make another leap now....thanks again guys, your hard work and dedication is truly appreciated.
I have a TA-82, and I used the downgrader to 1.5, and then went up to 3.02OE-A/B and 3.03OE-A/A'/B, and haven't had a single problem. As long as you follow instructions word to word, everything will go fine. I don't know of any people myself who have bricked from this upgrade...so there is almost no chance of bricking if you follow everything close.

You have to go 2.71->1.5->3.03 OE-A->3.03 OE-B I'm surprised how many ta-082 owners still don't realize that they could be on the custom firmware.

Don't change the GAME folder to GAME150, just add a new folder called GAME150. If the GAME folder is not present, it won't detect anything.

download a fw1.5 and put it in the /psp/game/recovery folder and name it eboot.pbp it a bit hard to get through coz u cant see any writing
if u read the readme.txt in the 3.02 oe-a update, it said that the no umd feature has compatability problems w/ some isos/csos.

What kinda problem? If you mean saving over Hotshots 2, all you have to do when you create the game from an image is to change the game ID dax allready set that up in the new popstation so that shouldnt be a problem anymore.

hate to sound like a noob but what folder do i put my videos in and what should they be named? I've tried the MP_ROOT stuff and the video folder in the psp folder so am i doin something wrong or what?
this is insane who in their right mind would risk bricking their psp putting a custom firmware whith ton s of bugs in it!!! what many ppl dont understan is that this firmware is not like devhook!! it writes itself in the f:o and f:1!!! stick whit devhook it run of the memorystick not the flash ..... what correct me me if im wrong on this

I'd like to get my PSP to be 3.03 OE-B, but I've been readin' about this stuff for about a week now but I'm still not sure how I would be able to go about it. Can anybody help me out? Hi guys, could you help me? I would like to install the 3.03 Open Edition Revision B, but, I was reading the readme.txt and I must have to instal the 3.03-OEA before updating to B. I downloaded the 3.03-OEA but I need the 1.5 and 3.03 firmware, like is informed on documentation "Get the 1.50 and 3.03 sony updates, and put them in the oeupdatemaker folder with the names 150.PBP and 303.PBP." so, I would like to know, where I could get these firmeware, somebody could say me? thanks a lot and sorry for my poor english. cheers!!!!

fw 1.5, 2.71 se, or 3.02 oe to have a capability of running 3.03 oe. you can only upgrade if you have 1.5 or custom fw's
DevHook does not support the PSX native emulation in 3.0x+ firmware. That is only available via this custom firmware. If DevHook wouldn't have this limitation then yes, DevHook would be king, but it cannot so it's no longer the fact. In the end Dark Alex's custom firmware will pretty much be on top, no matter what. The only drawback so far is that he's having to remove some of the native apps (i.e. Location Free Player) in order for him to make the dual-kernel 1.5/3.0x work in the limited space that's available in F0. Also, F1 doesn't matter. You can corrupt that all day long and it won't brick your PSP. BTW, DevHook .52 corrupts F1 and forces a BSOD on first startup, yet doesn't cause any issues. It's F0 that's the issue sometimes, but if you follow the simple instructions on the install of any of these custom firmware there's pretty much a 0% chance to brick your PSP. The people that brick on these installs are stupid noobs who don't know how to read and don't understand simple instuctions. Ask yourself this... if you need the Noob Auto Installs that people on PSPHacks make in order to get things as simple as DevHook to work on your PSP, then custom firmware is not for you.... for that matter, just return your PSP back to the store.

This is so awesome, I just installed 3.03 OE-A two days ago on my TA-082. I know everyone's priorities for their PSP's are different, but full resolution video is a HUGE DEAL for me. As soon as I get home, I'm going to be enjoying this (and especially tonight at work). Honestly, Dark_Alex, thank you so much for your contributions. Your work and efforts certainly don't go unnoticed. We all owe you a dept of gratitude.

when will u understand that you can't add features to the firmware that don't already exist (even if limited)? don't you get it? the psp plays mp4. it doesn't play avi, it doesn't play wmv, it doesn't play anything else but mp4. dark_alex hacked the restriction that made user created video not full-screen. understand that you can't add features to the firmware that aren't already there. except for the recovery menu which actually isn't part of the firmware itself.
I agree with "not" but I'd like to add that custom firmwares are probably safer than official ones as custom firmwares have recovery menu to recover from a brick. With official ones though you only have one chance
hey...i was just wondering if you still need to do the stupid MP_ROOT folder on the root of the MS with the other dumb folder inside of it, then the actual video folder inside of the last one named MAQ10004? i heard you can now make a VIDEO folder and put it into your PSP folder (along with the music, game, etc. folders) and then name your video whatever you want to call it. if anyone knows anything about this that would be awesome!

PotFarmer: Place your videos in MP_ROOT\101MNV01\ Each video must be named M4VXXXXX.MP4 where the X's represent any 5 digit number. You can also include a .thm of the same name (E.G M4VXXXXX.thm) which contains the icon for the video. Hope this helps, jscinoz
I have converted a Video with "Videora PMP Converter" but the outputfile is a PMP file! I dont a PMP file i need a .mp4 file!? How can i convert with this program into a .mp4 file?
you're suppose to rename the the 1.50 eboot.pbp to update.pbp, seeing as how there would be 2 eboot.pbp files in the same directory. the flash for recovery eboot program looks for the 1.5fw @ update.pbp and flashes it so that you'll have a 1.5 again.
You need to have an older firmware... The maximum you can have is "offical 2.80" If you have upgraded past that (which you have) then you have no way to run the 3.03 OE installer. Therefore, you can't install it. You're locked out sorry. You just have to hope that someone finds a hole in the 3.03 (don't upgrade anymore!!) firmeware so that you CAN run custom software. Then you will be able to install this. Until then, you're totally out of luck. You can't run any homebrew software, only offically released stuff. I had a 2.80 PSP, thankfully just before Christmas a downgrader was released. Before then, I couldn't do anything either. Here's hoping you had the luck I did...

you lose NOTHING by going to DA's firmwares. it works like this - any homebrew you'd put in your GAME folder, would now go into the GAME150 folder. itll run exactly the same. any 1.5 'brew. just do it!

I have a problem, I upgraded to 3.03OEA ok but I wanted to play GTA VCS with cheat device so I ran GTA with devhook 4.6 with 2.71 an the game started but when I turned the PSP off it wouldnt boot just got the loading screen then a blank screen. I used the recovery and flashed back to 1.50. GTA works find with devhook 4.6 and cheat device now im back on 1.50 but I want to use this new firmware without giveing up cheatdevice. I thought 3.03 was suposed to work with all 1.50 brew so why dose devhook mess up the 3.03oe flash files? Please help

ive tried that stuff already with the m4vxxxxx and the maqxxxxx in the other folder but it gives me this message that data type not supported on my psp. mabie im just encoding the video wrong or something. i used xvid4psp to encode it into a 480 by 272 mp4 avc file. i might try using another program and see if that works.

Not to be rude or complain but FF7 still is glitched for those who are wondering. It might be just me as I still am using my ISO from when 3.02 OE-B was released....but oh well. I'm still quite happy with this update and busy with FF9 which is running beautifully. All this is possible because of our dearest DA. Thank you!

I previously went from 2.6>2.71>1.5>3.02OEA>3.02OEB with all working fine. I decided to go to the next DA 3.03 OE-B. I know that I first needed to upgrade to the 3.03OE-A so I tried that first and I received an "error... DATA.DAXR" and it shut off the PSP and then when I restarted manually my memory card light would flash 8 times then pause 4 sec and reflash... I can get to recovery, but I am not that familiar on the process. Can anyone help? please?

I think that the N64 project would be done in no time flat with DA, and with barely any bugs to fix out...i mean 3.03OE-A and now B is a big step from when everyone started out with a 1.50 and a simple snes emulator. DAX is a genius and i know he has all of our support. And the N64 is just a suggestion afterall.

Guys, DA didn't make the emu, sony did. Emu compatability is only going to increase with later firmware realeases by SONY. Hopefully when those come out DA can hack em.

If you have stock sony 3.02 firmware, you are stuck. You'll have to wait for a downgrader.

If you have firmware 2.81 or less, look for downgraders to 1.50. (Just google it!). If your firmware is higher than 2.81, you are stuck until someone writes a downgrader.

Good job Dark Alex ;) Full res is nice ;) But has ANYONE noticed that the Free UMD region thing doesn't work at all? I have a US PSP, bought some UMD Movies in Europe, but I can't play them at all. Even at the settings set at; UMD REGION IS EUROPE (or Japan) or Free Region or whatever... Sucks pretty much. Still amazed after all this hacking still not possible to play movies from other regions. Been around since the first days of hacking and still nothing :P Should've tried dumping the movie..

First of all THANKS DARK ALEX, that's a great work again! I have a question: It plays videos in full resolution, ok. I was going to test it, I've converted a video with the just released "custom .ini for 3GP Converter v0.34" It converted it successfully. Then I've copied it to Videos folder, it said: unsupported data. Then to MP_ROOT/100MNV01, and it still said that its unsupported data. Then I've put it to the MP_ROOT/101ANV01 and it worked. Its interesting. All videos must be in the 101ANV01 folder?

Hi! first of all u have to turn the psp off by holding power for 2secs! Now hold "rightshift" pressed at the same time u starta the psp. The recoverymode for 3.xx OE shall be open now. go to "Configuration" and take enabled on "Use NO-UMD" good luck!

Awesome, but what feature really needs to be added is for UP owners, running 3.02OEB on their UP, to be able to reflash the PSPNand from 3.02OEB on the UP Chip. Its totally possible, just hasn't been done. My FPC cable on my UP is broke, and I have 3.03OEB on my UP and 3.03Sony on my PSPNand... but I cannot put Epsilon on my UP without the FPC cable, and only epsilon has the ability to flash from the UP tot he PSPNand. the feature could EASILY be added to 3.03OE I would think. maybe even a modified recovery console Eboot would work... Someone please write this, I could try, but not nearly enough coding experience. Anyways, GREAT JOB DA! please please please make what I asked though, without it I cannot run PSX games on my PSP as they dont work of OE is on the UP for some reason.

PSPlayerMT is a homebrew audio/video player for the PSP, which is capable of playing AVI videos with resolution up to 480*272@29.97 fps without lags. Yay! No more transcoding! you need to get a program to load the video on the psp with both files that are created; psp video manager, i believe, is the name of one; it will make it a supported file
hmm...i'm not sure but i think when you convert the image to eboot format you have to make sure both disks have the same gameid. perhaps someone could confirm this?

Don't get me wrong i love everything your doing with the custom firmware playing ffvii-ffIX on my psp is amazing but since going to the 3.03 OE My PS3 does not detect my psp as a psp as it did with my HEND 2.71 firmware it detects it as an external usb device (e.g a thumb drive)... Just wanted to make people aware of the issue and hopefully a fix will come out in the months to come. until then i thank you for all your hard work and i am going go play some more classic final fantasy....

Ever since I updated from 1.5 I haven't been able to play my SNES, Sega & GBA emulators/roms. I am kind of fed up about poking around google with contradictory info. Here is how I made it work under linux in AVC full resolution so you won't have to look it up. I used ffmpeg-0.4.9_p20061016 on my gentoo. Now that Dark_Alex and Mathieulh's firmware is on top, i think it would be cool if they adapted usb keyboard functionality and the ability to hook up a laptop hard disk drive to the psp console using the 'USB HOST' feature. What do you guys think?
after upgrading my PSP to 3.02 OB -> 3.03 OB, i cannot play my psx eboots no more, did any one else have this problem?

OMG THIS SUCKS!!! IM SO STUPID!! ok so... ive upgraded my 3.03 oe-b to this one only to find out that my hombrew apps including my playstation games just shut down everytime i tried to use them. so i went back and put the pops update onto my memory stick and selected it, everything looked like it installed fine. BUT NOW MY PSP DOESN"T START UP!! I CAN SEE THE BACKLIGHT COME ON AND I CAN HEAR THE UMD SPIN BUT THE PSP JUST TURNS IT'S SELF OFF AFTER 10 seconds PLZ CAN SOMEONE HELP ME!!! Alright problem is here i have successfully upgraded to 3.03oe via being on 3.02oeb now i accidently installed 3.02oeb instead of the 3.03oeb update now what is the best thing for me to do to get to 3.03oeb? search "Recovery" in google (and add psp and custom firmware of scourse). u can go back to 1.5 try it
make a GAME150 folder next to ur GAME and put all the h/b that u used with 1.50 in there.

While you can indeed play 480 x 272 movies now, you have to set it to 'fullscreen' mode to do this, which means if you want to watch something that's not 16:9 (ie: a 4:3 video at 320 x 240, or I suppose 362 x 272 is possible now) you have to change the screen mode. Excellent job, but it'd be nice if the 480 x 272 videos would automatically play widescreen instead of shrunk, that way you could leave it on normal all the time like we used to. Maybe for 3.02 OE-B'? ;P
I would do this to my psp but i'm not so sure cause first i gotta downgrade to 2.71 then 1.5 then upgrade, then upgrade again thats like 4 chances of my psp bricking.... I might do it if i do i will post the results *Wish Me Luck* Lol

Problem is i've tried that and it doesnt work. All I see are coruppted icons and a message "This game cannot be started, data is corrupt." Could I be missing something else? Thanks for the help.
i'm not sure what i did wrong but if anyone could give me a suggestion..... i started with 3.02 a and then b. everything worked fine from there. then i updated to 3.03 a with the easy updater from this site where you just run it from your mem stick and scoll to the version you want to update from. i chose 3.03 a then updated. next i got dax's 3.03 b update and put it on the mem stick and updated from that. now i can play video and use 1.5 homebrew but none of my games work, psp isos or psx. also, it was crashing at the sce screen when i switched it on so i went in recovery mode and chose to turn the sce logo off at startup. i would like to start over either from 1.5 or somehow redo the whole 3.03 update again but i don't know what i should do next. i'm afraid to do anything for fear of bricking my psp. any help please? thanks in advance.

when you goto your pics you can get the options up to set as wallpaper but when i set a pic as wallpaper it sets the pic as normal to the wallpaper but when i put the psp on standby then turn back on its gone does anyone else have this problem? thanks
with 3.03 OE A2 you could play UMD videos from USA, JAP or EU on all psp models but now with 3.03 OE B my USA umd video dont't works on my JAP PSP any more

OK, so I updated to OE-B from OE-A and nothing works. My ISOs or PSX games don't work anymore. They get stuck at the PSP logo screen and then freeze and after a few seconds the PSP shuts itself off... WTF is going on here?

my iso's/cso's don't seem to work now I'm using 3.03OE-B, and I put my games in the iso folder and I tried it in the GAME150 folder and still no luck. When I try to start a game it just gets frozen at the PSP logo. Also I got no-umd enabled. Can someone please help me?
Since I update from 3.02 OE-B to 3.03 OE-A I can't use WPA connection in my homebrew apps anymore. Not working is: pspVNC 1.2.3 and PiMPStreamer 2.0.1 Does anybody has the same problem?

Thanks for all, In the 3.03 OE-B I have the same problem I have USE NO-UMD (Currently Enabled), And when I run an ISO Game it doesnt work the screen turns black. The ISos Just work when NO UMD is disabled. En la Version 3.03 OE-B A pesar de tener activado el NO UMD, al correr un ISO, la pantalla se pone negra y se traba, tengo que utilizar forzosamente el NO UMD Disabled utilizando un umd para correr los isos. Hey everyone how's it going? I'm a newbie & I just recently upgraded my PSP to 3.03 OE-A. I also have a 4Gb Memory stick for games & I'm loving it. But I got a problem..i just downloaded "Silent Hill Experience" & I have no idea how to watch it?? It's an UMD-VIDEO ISO file. I tried converting it in "Xilisoft PSP Video Converter" but doesn't work. Can anyone please help? Thanks for your help & take care. BJ PS. I was also wondering if anyone knows how to rip UMD-VIDEOS & UMD GAMES? Because I have quite a few games & movies. I'm always bringing them in a bag full of them, its annoying..lol..is there anyway of ripping them on the memory stick & backing them up on the computer to save the trouble? Thanks again.

ok guys here goes, i have upgraded downgraded my psp from: 2.0-2.5-1.5-2.71-2.81-3.02oea-oeb now im trying to update to 3.03oea then up. i have never had any problems up till now, i have downloaded the update for 3.03oeA placed the 2 folders into the GAME150 folder closed the usb connection, opened the update from the xmb then i get the sony screen and then all goes blank! psp turns off and no update?? am i missing something? i now cant play my umd's as the psp says it cant read the disk and i cant play downloaded demos or my backup iso's!! help!!

My Lethal Alliance iso doesn't work anymore. It worked fine on my 1.5 w/ devhook. But now I get "The game could not be started. (80020148)" What does this mean. This game is awsome. I'd like to play it again. Anyone got any pointers on how to run it?
