3.03 OE-A in the making, ISO compression confirmed |

Viet_mode told us recently of some stuff going on across the different forums and IRC chatrooms out there in the great wide cyberspace. It seems Dark_Alex has already begun work on 3.03 OE-A, which should allow all of us to enjoy PSX games on the latest firmware that Sony's concocted.
More importantly, current PopStation users will be happy to know that PSX ISO compression has been confirmed. The files you're using to play PS1 games shouldn't end up eating your memory sticks that badly now. For now, expect to hear of an actual 3.03 OE-A release before the week ends.
For now, we're linking to the QJ forum thread about this little development with very big implications for readers to check out. Whether you're from DCEmu or Maxconsole or from QJ, I think it's safe to say this is a great way to start off a new year. Cheers.

Do you have a life man? Is your only source of pride rooted in whether or not you can find something on the internet the fastest? Oh well... your probably 12... Anyways, I wonder how far the ISO's can be compressed? and if compressed, if they can be expanded later on.
I'm on 3.02OE-B, and I would love to shrink this FFVII I"m playing, so I can use more Homebrew ;). But I was wondering if anybody else is having the same problem as me. My battery life is terrible now! maybe it's just time for a new one (I've had this one for 1.5 yrs) or is it the emulator that's sucking my power so quickly. I've never drained my battery all the way out, but in the week or so after my upgrade I've drained it twice! Anybody?
that this isn't too much of a pain to install (by which i mean I hope someone makes one of them very friendly installers)
I think I read somewhere that they upped the processor to 333 in the emulator. It normally runs at 222 for everything else, (Unless set differently in some hombrew).
DA you have to be 1 of the most ambitious coders ever, let alone on the psp scene. It's like 1 right after another. I'm on 3.02 OE-B right now and its great. As for the battery life thing, I havent noticed a change. Maybe its just that youre playing your psp more now that FFVII is on it :) Anyway, looking forward to the release, and thanks for all your hard work DA!

like Kleptoone said it runs at 333 in the emulator (according to everywhere) but theres some prx's that'll allow you to run it at 222 with a little lag i beleive the mp3 plug-in is one but im not sure also CWCheat the newest version i beleive has that option but m not too sure
I been all over stores trying to find psx games luckily i saved my favorite ones.. Anyone got Tony hawk PS 1 2 3 to work??? I do got a 4gb but it aint enough...this will be great to compress them....... Im still complainting on no background music for twisted metal...i remember playing that game parts 3 and 4 for hours and having the music all loud... THem tracks are sick...But im loving this version and its sick how we now upgrading just like sony.. our psp no longer sony haha.....ItS DAX now lol Happy New years keep up the good work

I agree with axelixc about number 6 and 7...I really would like custom gameboots etc without messing up my psx emulation.
This is great news! Maybe when this comes out I'll be able to play final fantasy 7. I don't know how most of you got that to work, cuz mine gets to the new games screen and once clicked goes black, just like most all the psx games ive put on my psp, except for Crash Bandicoot.
Would we be able to compress the eboot.pbp game file somehow if it's possible? ..or only the PSX ISO? T__T I don't want to have to redownload all again since I've deleted them.

From what I heard the only diff between US and the rest of the world is: US uses NTSC vid encoding, PAL for every1 else ... PSX2PSP already ahs a fix for this.

1)Better No-UMD Support Always works for me and i have 20+ isos.
notice that you're using 3.02 OE-B this is 3.03 OE-A
All of the previous custom firmware updates have been upgradable through the lower custom firmware. Either using a quick easy update (SE-A to SE-B)or creating a file to install seperately(SE to OE-A or SE-B to SE-C). Seeing as this goes up to 3.03 it will probebly require you to make that data file. Long story short. U will be able to upgrade from 3.02 oe-b. If your feeling unsure, wait for an easy installer
i had that problem. then i got a different iso file and it worked perfectly. my suggestion would be to try a different iso.
PSX2PSP will needed to be updated so that it makes the .PBP with the new compression popstation :D?
probably u r lucky 2 hv 20 isos tat r compatible. wait till u hv more, den u'll know 3.02oeb has a lot of no-umd compatibility issue compare to 2.71se-c. why i know? coz i tested 197 isos.
use alcohol 120% or crdwin to create your iso and they will work. it does make a huge difference what program you use to rip
that's wat always make me sick about it. I wan my custom gameboot and custom opening_plugin back though now they r not compatible wif 3.02oeb....just hope he'll fix them.
the short answer is yes, but you might just get away with swapping out the .exe file with the new one.... maybe but probably not

ye, I have that same problem! I was playing GTA:VCS perfectly on 2.71 SE-b and now I can't get it to run at all on 3.02 OE-B! is it possible that 3.03 OE-a could fix this or do I have to downgrade to finish the game?

Last weekend I installed 3.02 B It works perfectly only what I don't understand how to play games from my stick. The manual says to put them in the games folder or the game302 folder but then I don't see them. Do you have some tips? Keep up the work guys your doing all great. Greetings D

my 3.02 oe-b ta-082 is the *****ing ***** allready and now alex is doing it again... insane i just cant stop using my psp now. Havent used my pc for anything in a long time now.
1)no need of hot shots golf 2 for making your psx eboots (it's why i can't play my psx games :( ,im not going to illegally rip that game) 2)make it a straight update from 3.02 oe b 3)support for every homebrew game also playable in 1.50 (like the old ir shells) 4)get some fame DA... put your name in the about psp thank you also...
or you could' take the demo disk that came free with the psp (if you havent throw it away then ask your friends who have psp's if the still use there demo disk

Use some google, jeeesus :( You can upgrade to OE only from 1.50 firmware or other custom firmwares (which needed 1.50 at some point anyway).
Dark_AleXs installer already is easy! the only problem is making the dxar, I had problem with it on 2.71 SE, my guess is that I was using the japanese 2.71 eboot..
Don't be, even if the installation would fail (because you do something wrong) you would still have the recovery menu (press R at boot) so that you can return to 1.50 and try again

Yes, I've tried THPS 2 but there were big problems with it. I don't know if it's because it's originally PAL or if it is the game itself, but the faces (3D surfaces) keep disapearing around the player and not only visually. If you skate over a face when it is disappeared you hover until you get something to stand on again... you could get quite impressive spins though (1080 and such).. But I'm hoping sony fixed that in 3.03 which would result in it being fixed on 3.03 OE too (for those that didn't already understand it)

I can understand those not upgrading to 3.03 OE-A if everything already works perfect in 3.02 OE (and they don't want to pwn sony a little bit by having the latest firmware PLUS homebrew) but for example that guy not upgrading from 2.71 SE is just weird, why not upgrade to 3.02 OE while waiting? maybe start ripping your PSX games and convert them?

PAL games don't work well graphically, you need to get your hands on a ntsc version... same happened with my psx games, I had to get ntsc versions of all my pal games... apparently some of the popstation tools can (or will) convert pal games well... there just so many versions of the tool... gah

This would be a VERY nice birthday present! Being an owner of only a 1gb memory stick it does get annoying swapping games around all the time. But now, with compression confirmed, should be easier and better paying these games!

Anything that isn't 2.80 or below, or already a 3.0x O-E custom firmware will have to sit on their thumbs until someone comes out with a suitable hack to downgrade them.

1) Ability to make the DATA.DXAR on the computer (for people with 32mb memory sticks. Besides, is there any reason why the oeupdmaker has to run on a PSP?) 2) USB/nethostfs (again, for the 32mb people) Compression sounds great for people with smaller memory sticks (unfortunately I doubt it'll be enough for 32mb :-P) As you've probably guessed, I only have a 32mb MS.

Yes, there is a reason why you have to run it on a PSP. Firmwares from version 2.80 and up are encrypted in such a way that they have to be decrypted for a specific PSP. This way oeupdmaker if able to decrypt the file specifically for your PSP. I also believe that it is actually illegal to modify Sony's copyrighted firmware files, however there's a loophole if the files are modified on the PSP since the official installer has to modify them anyway.

Jack, because you're on Sony's official firmware 3.03 which isn't downgradable. For example, I was on 1.5 firmware using devhook, then 3.02OE-A was released, so because I was on 1.5 firmware I could upgrade to 3.02OE-A.. from that I could upgrade to OE-B once it was released. You'll only be able to get DA's new firmware once a downgrader for 3.03 comes out, which will probably be a long long time.

Ok, so i pirated all 4 Thps games, BUT I BOUGHT THEM ALL 10 YEARS AGO!!!! 200+bucks, gone, and i'm not paying AGAIN. NYwayz, i tried 1+2 so far, and both work, but with BIG ASS graphic errors, enough to make it unplayable... oh well, lets see this fixed...
Dark Alex makes some excellent programs. As long as it's something really released by him (and not some scam site) you're fine.

is it possible to replicate this directory again? also i have been trying to play psp millionaire on 3.02oe-b and cant seem to.
Nothing I ripped in ISO format worked. Make sure you rip the raw files with no conversion and hopefully you get one file in BIN format. Some games like Resident Evil DC have 2 BIN files but I converted using the larger one and it worked.
Does anyone know what the compression ratio will be, will you be able to compress the eboot directly or do you have to go back to the beginning of making the eboot, will Tomb Raider PSX work, will Battle Arena Toshinden series and Soul Blade play at better speeds?

The 3.03 firmware we're talking about is an emulated firmware. It's not the actual Sony update.

I got Tony Hawk ps 2 to run but there were a lot of graphical problems. It wasnt really playable. T.J Lavins Ultimate BMX, Gran Turismo 2, + NASCAR 2003 all worked great for me though.
I just put mine in the GAME folder (I set it up to use 1.50 homebrew.) You only need the one EBOOT generated by popstation or whatever GUI you use.

I couldn't get Tomb Raider 1 or 2 to work. I haven't tried Revelations, but TR 3 and Chronicles are confirmed working. If you rip the game and you get more than one BIN file, usually they don't work.
Just downgraded my 2.8 to 1.50, then upgraded to 3.02 OE-B... And now 3.03 OE-A is announced with ISO compression... This is a good week... :D

Not all of Dark Alex's firmware updates have it included. I think there is one with the 3.02 OE-A download. I wouldn't use the one from the 2.71 SE versions. Some games just don't work with custom firmware. Luamines also doesn't work. I thought I read about a converter somewere on this site but I can't find it. Anybody out there know about it?
I bought 6 playstation games at EB games for less than $10! Sure beats $20-$50 each for a PSP game! On the small screen the graphics of PS1 games seem much better than I remember.

it still says you need to activate. a program that would bypass this activation when converting the ps1 games to eboot.pbp would have been way better than this 3.03 OE-A crap.
factory t-82 2.6 -> 2.71 -> 1.5 -> 3.03 OEA - 3.03 OEB . IT does work and is possible just make sure to fallow instructions exactly

i've upgraded my psp to firmware 3.03 by the update icon on my psp,is firmware 3.03 the same as firmware 3.03-OE?.If this aint the same have i messed up the chance to be able to play psone games on my psp or psp iso games on it?

Install the custom firmware just fine. But where in the heck do you put you ISO's at? They are not showing up on the psp. The read me file for the FW says "ISOS are shown under memory stick games." Please help.
