2.80 plays 480x272, if it's Motion JPEG |
Ó

When PSP-Vault tooled with the video functions of Sony's Firmware 2.80 for the PSP, finding that its video playbacks were limited to a rather smallish 320x240 pix rather than the 480x272 the screen can handle, they missed out on something. zmcnulty found out just recently that 2.80 CAN play 480x272 vids without the need of homebrew. If the vid was encoded in Motion JPEG, that is.
Motion JPEG is a video made up of a flipbook of JPEG stills - literally. Many digicams still use Motion JPEG as their video capture format since, well, the camera's set to cap JPEG stills anyway. There is a big disadvantage to using Motion JPEG formats, however: they're huge. By way of example, zmcnulty converted a 40-second, 2MB XviD file into Motion JPEG, and it ended up taking 20MB. Guess we'll be needing more Memory Sticks...
And there's one other thing zmcnulty's wondering about: Why didn't Sony publicize this? He says,
That's an excellent question, and one I'm struggling with myself.
Perhaps the same reason many speculate they have disabled the playback
of 480 x 272 video in MPEG-4 or AVC/H.264: they don't want to hurt
sales of UMD-Video.
Of course, there are reasons why some people won't update to 2.80+...

wats thi s mean?1st sorry
Click the link to psp-vault.com and it explains it better.
MJPEG isn't a good codec to use (if you can even call it a codec...). It takes forever to convert and the file sizes can be gargantuan. No wonder sony didn't say anything.
Motion jpeg was implemented along with the camera, its one of the new features unmentioned. its used for the chotto shotto to create "Movies" out of several jpegs put together. like a 60fps camera would actually have 60 images/second just an update for you guys. its only logical that they would have this. Another word, the psp's camera although 1.3 megapixel its FPS would be considerablly low, around at least 30fps decent playback. Basically the more fps the more jpegs used and the more space taken. sad but true.

Motion JPEG doesn't take "forever" to convert. There's very little compression, so it actually converts a lot faster than MPEG-4 or AVC.

You guys are douchebags, his name is zmcnulty, its a proper name, get it right. Not "zmNULty, "zmcNUTTY", or anything else you've cited him as in the past. Show some respect QGay.
Not "zMUCnulty" ***
wat about gif? it is so much smaller and more common. i haven't really heard of motion jpeg until about now. idk, it's something that doesn't need to go said.
gifs are viewable, however, only animated gifs are able to be viewed throuh the internet browser, and not from the XMB itself.
Thank you for your kind attention to our error, we also have fixed our spellcheckers, we mean no disrespect to zmcnulty. Speaking of which, wherever you got your gaydar, please get it checked, or replace the batteries, it must be conking out. ;)
Although GIFs are great as a moving picture, they are very low in quality compared to, say, AVC. Just wait til Sony releases another codec for the PSP.
why does the videoo have 41sec duration, i thought it can only record about 15...strange
Think of it as a mp4 file with inhanced resolution
Ahh, back in my good old college days (1995-1999) MJPEG was a choice codec to use for video if you had hardware to support it.
Realtime editing of full screen video at 30fps was possible without ANY rendering or wait times with a PCI capture card with MJPEG on board. Of course, nowadays it has been usurped by DV video captured as a digital stream.
On a lowly PII 200 with enough HD space, one could do amazing things with Premiere 4 back then. Makes me wonder if I should break out my dusty old Pinnacle/Miro DC30 capture card and make - WAIT, that ***** is done fer.
Long live Mpeg4!!
its not the camera, its the video someone converted.
UMD VIDEO even used 720x480 resolution.
when you want to say "background", say background. NOT backround. If you think about the definitions for a moment, "backround" does not make any sense.
Thank you for your time. Consider this a warning.

2nd post +P
He banned me from his g@y site so which makes him sooooooooo G@Y!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!! I hope you read this zmcnulty
anyonw know of a program or a link to a program that lets me convert my movies to a motion jpeg.. also what is the file extension of motion jpegs
It says on that site that there is .avi playback on psp 2.8+!!!!??? But on my psp they say unsupported data
there is a converter called "super" (or something) and it converts any video to motion jpeg (mjpeg) to a smaller size. the size is still pretty big but its smaller than 3gp converted file.... when you get it you have to set it at avi, mjpeg for video codec, wav pcm 16 for audio codec.. select ffmpeg click on use directshow then customize the video size to 480x272.
add your video and voila.
your welcome
P.S. to find the converter search super in google it the second link, also the converter is free
Guys, chill out, if you got banned, maybe there's a reason that does not include the sexual preferences of someone. And if something is misspelt, it's not out of disrespect for anyone, it's just a typo. The citing of a source is a sign of respect, untainted by typos. Oh, and please stay relevant to the subject of the post.
Now, to my comment;
Why doesn't sony decide to implement full res video in the PSP now that UMD-Video support has petered down, and essentially died? They can't lose any more market now can they?
