^ lolol owned
Memory stick boot IS the PS emulator.
Must...not...update!!!
i hope there's ginna be a eloader for it
Why would they release camera and gps library in spring firmware when the camera and gps hardware won't be out until fall?
old news
thanks for re-iterating though
to hype it, and also to see if protypes work...
any word as to changes in the video and audio players..? specifically, i would be curious about full screen/rez video from memory stick..? ogg/flac..?
ok these terms are vague. all I care about... The one thing I care about... is getting this damn PSP to work on my university network! Does "Network Support" mean VPN connection support, because if it does then that will be the tipping point as to when I would cast off out of firmware 1.5 land and go foth to the inevidible and upgrade to version 3.5. GPS is a stupid feature they have it on new verizon phones, it better on the phone because A. It has talking feature. B Data is stored on verizon servers, therefore you dont need 400$ 4 GB memstickduo that hasnt come out yet and wont depreciate til the PSP 2 comes out which will have a hard drive anyway so basically now you should just sell your PSP on eBay now and wait for PSP 2 if you want GPS so bad in 2008 and dont have a cell phone from verizon or whereever else. As for the camera feature I think that the only good game that could come out would be connecting to a hooker that you can chat with on the cheap in some far off foriegn country. Basically other then that this feature sucks.
This Is Foamy, I Don't Want To Make An Account
----------
Well Based On The Distance Between Sept 6(Cam Release) And Oct(GPS Release) I've Figured That The Next Network Update Will Be Around July 6th
my birthday is October 6th
Why are the blog writers writeing about really old news?
even though im a homebrew user.. these features are persuaing me to update... i can hear them now..
"come to the light side... i am your firmware..."
i think that they wont release it cz their afraid of the eloader working. lol
yeah its coming soon cz its spring and almost summer
More RSS? How about PSONE Emulator?
my bday IS july 6ths, so that would be pretty sweet.
If the flash support supports flash games with full sound support and the ability to map keystrokes to buttons on the PSP (and decent compatibility, of course)then I will definitely update, eloader or no eloader. When I get bored of that I can always use my spare used 1.5 PSP to play homebrew games again. But chances are SONY will not have implemented these features (yet) so I may not do so. I sure as hell hope SONY considers allowing decent controls for flash games because that would be a great alternative to homebrew which still allows people to create decent free content and would not allow any form of piracy.
As for the "PS1 emulator", if I wanted a portable version of a PS1 I would not bother waiting, I could always purchase a GP2X system which has a good PS1 emulator available and no need to re-purchase games I already own. Also, i will be interested in finding out how SONY intends to keep people from pirating games that are supposed to be played from the memory stick. Of course, if SONY is willing to encrypt some freeware to a format that will work on 3.X PSPs and allow people to download the converted version for free (as if that will ever happen, but wishful thinking never hurt anybody) then I would think more highly of this feature.
As for the camera, it would be a fun novelty if it has content disstributed with it that is similar to the eye toy and I hope the PSP will eventually have a messenger feature that will allow using the web cam while contacting people over MSN Messenger and AIM protocols. That would make it an almost must have item.
And last but not least, the GPS. This would be a nifty tool to use with a PSP system but the price better be very competitive compared to other GPS systems, I have seen a GPS that utilizes road maps and does not require payment to any services for $450 in some stores and am not really in the market for a GPS at this point.
As far as voice over IP is concerned, it would only be practical for me if it worked outside of wifi hotspots. I have a readily accesible cell phone so I have no need to use something of this nature. However, if a chat program that incorporated this feature (and still works with internet chat protocols) were added to the PSP, then I suppose it can be useful.
man.. i really wanted programs like paint, alarm clock..even something like to put a password to even get on the psp so my bro cant get on..dissipointment T_T
Hope we'll get the camera specification soon... will it even be able to shoot stills/videos? (video chat is not equal to "video recording")
If not - I may sell my unit...
I just want some Playstation games, I'll upgrade for that.
the psp cam wont be all that bad unless you love homebrew, becaus e i can bet tekken gold that you will have to update the firmware for it to work....
OMFG THE ONLY THING GOOD IS THE GOD DAMN CAMERA AND MACROMEDIA. JESUS ***** THEN NO MORE HOME BREWS WHAT A *****ING RIP OFF I AM OUT OF HERE ***** YOU GUYS
Wow! All this right after I woke up and thought "Hmm, here I am in April, with a PSP that hasn't been updated in a long time. Come on Sony, tell me whn the next update will be!" It's all thanks to Sony's BrainWAVE XMitter Portable, FW 3.21502. Good thing they can read my mind!
Could you repeat that... In english.
I want the PS1 emulator, but If that will cost too much will be just a friggin' waste, In that case I would update only if there's a GTA eLoader (or any other game, I don't care)
With the flash player does that mean we can play flash games like N? If so that would be sweet---many probally would update so they can make flash homebrew games.
that is If there is homebrew at all.
It says to be released october and September 06....as in 2006....not the 6th of the month....moron
Flash support - massive exploit opportunity there...
Kernal access on a newer firmware would rule after it seems that the leaked 3.0 has blocked the eloader.
I find it interesting that Sony are adding features that were seen as important selling points on the Gizmondo.
I hope they took note that it failed dismally.
My PSP is staying 1.5 forever and thats that. Im buying a DSlite and I will keep that upto date(well not really but buying browser, etc)
Just anything above 1.5 doesnt really have appeal since you have requirement(GTA for one).
My PSP was born free.
Psp is realey starting to get boring )-:
this is really old...can't believe is on the front page... TODAY!!!
your nice and quick this is old buddy
from the looks of where the dot is in the spring, it seems very soon , early spring and such, maybe the 4/20 theory is true and a new update will come then
whaaaaat?
what abou the 3mul8er?
yes one psp fpr upgrades the other for emu
PSP is gettin really boring and old. The only good homebrew is snes emulator. THATS IT. I think I'm gonna sell my PSP soon.

it is another lost in translation these English-As-A-Second-Language news/blog posters do. QJ hires the cheapest labor which tends to be ESL people. but we can't blame them because atleast they are trying :) it is certainly better than us having to read translated stuff on a non-English site. so QJ staff, we still love you.
Why else would they be reporting so much news that is ALREADY ON THIS WEBSITE?
Idiots.
old news
I'll just do this overall:
I searched the QJ site with some key words and could not find any posts on this subject. Someone gave me a news tip so I decided to follow up on it and post it here. If it's old, then kindly shut the hell up and move on. Posting that it's old is not going to help you, it will only waste more time than you've already wasted. As you can see from many comments, lots of people didn't know about it so it's new to them.
To #34, I did not think Sony would put "06" to mean "2006" when they chart already showed that it was 2006. I was mistaken. You might want to lighten up on the name-calling though, this isn't the 7th grade.
To #47, stop being such a ****ing redneck. Just because I don't have some standard western name does not mean I am struggling with the English language. AP English is not ESL.
Thank you to everyone else who comment and didn't give the impression that the PSP fanbase really is made of 12 year olds attempting to look older.
FLASH ACCESS!
The memory stick is interesting. I take you can use the PS1 emulator like this or something... that's also positive news for us homebrew users, maybe fanjita or ditlew can sneak up a way to boot their own stuff that way. lol
Camera, VoIP, GPS. Hmm maybe I'll upgrade right away. I hope the GPS device thingy won't cost too much, I want one
were did guys read this before today? I realy want to see this site.
Do u guys think that when i buy my new basic pack for the white psp from japan it will come with this firmware or what. Is there realy firmware 2.61?
I already have a 1.5 psp but i want another one so can stay up to date with the latest firmwares.
These features aren't too appealing.
I want a portable and light keyboard attatchment with e-mail, IM, notepad, schedule and other palm pilot-like applications.
VoIP should be interesting anyway. I hope they have a little more up their sleeve.
i hav a 1.5 firmware psp and im keeping it dat way... evur since the downgrader came out, i had a 1.5 psp... and evr since then, i have nvr upgraded... 1.5 will find a way... all these features will cum out for 1.5... just w8... (BTW: remember wat they sed abt never being a downgrade, and gta working on 1.5... well were they WRONG!) 1.5 will stay the best
The time line says there will be an update in the begining of spring. Its almost summer and no update? It better come out soon, cuz i'm bored to death with 2.6.
I hope fanjita or someone can make homebrew that runs through the ps1 emulator. That whould be awesome.
I bet when sony says "spring" they mean June 20th, which is the day before summer begins, so you probably shouldn't get your hopes up that the next firmware is coming out any time soon.
Im freiken selling my psp when ds lite comes out this is bullshiit im gonna be happy when the dumbass's at soney drive there handheld out of buisness.
Uh, Rushan? This is very old..
I agree with #34.
The networking and video RSS will be the main things I'll be most interested in.
58. » What soneys doing is freiken retarded.
Im freiken selling my psp when ds lite comes out this is bullshiit im gonna be happy when the dumbass's at soney drive there handheld out of buisness.
Im always keeping my 1.5 even if its just for homebrew apps. Most of the features requested by peeps above are already available on 1.5.
But I can get a DSlite(that is only for games since THATS!!!!!!!!!! !!!!! all I want it for.) thats only 130euros.
The games are cheaper(and possibly better although they are different worlds apart), the web browser is going to be better.
The PSP doesnt have the 30gb+ space to ever make it as a decent multimedia player. Zen vision always does it for me. 360euros. The 8gb memory stick duos are going to be atleast that but surely more.
So to get the PSP working as a fairly decent MP4/MP3 player you need a PSP 200euro and a 8gig stick 400??? euro. Its 22gb smaller in space and twice as bulky.
All these new features need wifi which isnt everywhere so thats a requirement that I can only get at a Maccy D's or my house.
dream on sony just remember to wake up!
sony is making some dumb effin moves.
unless you have to stream the ps1 games to play them, then someones just gonna hack it or something, right?
especially waiting till the last scheduled firmware to make games bootable is dumb. cuz if someone hacks it THEN, there will be ANOTHER update JUST to patch the dang exploit.
that being said.....sony must have some trick up their sleave for once.
We'll see!
just my two cents (that saying is gonna get old) i guess
Memory Stick Boot .. can boot all old ps games hehe..
when is a spring release considered like april may?
idiots
wtf is up with these crappy ass front page posts
this is the same screenshot we all saw a long ass time ago when sony had their ps3 press conference =|
this and the "1.5 psps might still exist" post are shameful
I wonder if Sony would ever consider letting the Java Virtual Machine run on the PSP so that I could play Yahoo! Games/maybe write programs for the PSP...
I think when they said September 06 and October 06 they were talking about the year 2006 not the 6th of September/October.
well spring it like summer know huh sony if u pull the ps1 emulaor with no one using the psp to pla y hombrew ill update
This is super old, why are you guys just getting this in? this is from like the beggining of the year
" 70. » ALL U RETARDS
You retards......PSP is going to fail. The few lucky 1.5 or below people are lucky bastards. And every other people are stupid to buy a psp of 2.0+firmaware. These updates are full of shiit. Without hombrews, there isnt worth spending £100+. Besides psp doesnt have any good killer games. I much prefer mario games on my 1.5 version even though they are old, but still more fun than any psp games out today. All u mother *****ers who wanna still buy a psp can kiss sony's hairy ass."
Can't wait for the day you see a game you really want but have to update, If you want to play mario and all your old games, why waste $200 on a brick that hardly does nothing, then spend $500 on a laptop which can do all of a PSP's multimedia features + more?
anyone kno how big the ps1 games will be cause alot of ppl dont really have big mem stick storage
gtuOMG THATS AWESOME!!!!
"Memory Stick Boot" - wonders...
what's the Memory Stick Boot???
Staff member said @ 34 "You might want to lighten up on the name-calling though, this isn't the 7th grade."
--he only said "stupid and moron" in his post
same Staff member said @ 47 "stop being such a ****ing redneck."
you tell people this isn't the 7th grade then you act like an even younger kid with your racial slur..very funny, very funny.
numer 70 ummh why do you gys hate siny that much they only do there best AND i love my psp and if you hate yours than you will die in @@@
Memory Stick Boot...
The reason people have known about the upcoming PS1 emulator is because this exact image was used in a previous news item on this site. So yeah, this is old news.
Wait... was the original release of this picture on April 1st? Because, much of it seems so very unlikely, some parts of it even stupid. I mean, Sony should already have noticed that almost nobody gives a damn about location based games... unlike they bring in some real fresh ideas of course. The camera, well, that makes kinda sense, even though it's guaranteed to be low quality (compared to a good digicam). Eye-toy games are wildly popular in some countries.
Memory stick boot, that would be good if it finally got some official support. My idea would be downloadable demos of commercial games. Sure would cost them less than producing UMDs with demos on them.
And don't get your hopes up about PS1 emulation. Sure, Sony announced it, but it will not play any PS1 ISO you throw at it. The games will have to be converted to a special format (which is, of course, encrypted). The only one with the ability to create such CD-images is, of course, Sony.
I'm getting the awful feeling that the PSP is changing from a great portable game console to a mediocre, if not inferior, device of all trades. I mean, all additional features had some drawback: Videos must be 320x240 or lower (unless you use a workaround). The web browser plainly sucks. The location free player requires special hardware, you cannot use any wifi spot. Video UMDs can not be played on the big screen. Don't you think there will be drawbacks too, when the camera, the gps and the memstick boot come out?
re: 83. » Hey Rushan...

------------------------------------------------------------------------
A PICTURE DOES NOT DEFINE A NEWS POST AS OLD
You people are so annoying, if you dont like what pspu posts, then stop coming here or shut the hell up.
The first firmware news post didn't say what month each feature is coming in.
if i was to sell my 1.5 (good condition) how much would someone pay for it?
OK, I would like to add a (hopefully) semi-intelligent comment to this board. Has anyone noticed that the ver 2.60 download has disappeared from the downloads section of mypsp.com? Also it's been reported on other message boards that the american (I assume just the states) download area has been password protected? With the 20th April fast approaching, could this mean either some excellent update, more work for the superstar that is fanjita or a kick in the psp's for everyone? Personally i'm keen to find out a bit more about the RSS video, what exactly sony mean by "expand UMD video profile", network support & memory stick boot (Could this mean we buy memory sticks with games preloaded/download and install to existing sticks?). With Sony's increasing size of memory sticks, where in the firmware updates would a greater than 4GB ability be acknowledged?
it hasnt disappeared its on downloads to get FW2.60 on the right hand side
april 20 nothin on sony site
Oh well, i guess there is no update on April 20th...:( I checked like 20 times already.
there was no update today SO WHEN IS IT GOING TO BE man sony is gay!
its never coming! o well, im not updatin
i still think its amazeingly funny tht people still say 'im gunna keep my 1.5 coz i it is the only good firmwire and all 2.0+ are noobs' kinda posts. GET A LIFE U STEALING MORONS!!! they only keep 1.5 to steal games from dodgy download sites, hence ruining the games community and increasing the price of games. I live in the uk and to buy a psp game it costs me £40, but if all the 1.5 thiefs (and all the other people who pirate) didnt do tht it would probably cost me around £20.
I think all the psp updates are pretty cool, the rss feeds were few and far between thanks to little capability, but the idea was good. The web browser is by FAR the best part of psp outside of playing games, as u can find guides for the games your stuck on lol.
I cant wait for the psp homebrew community to collapse and the only people left with homebrew are the 1.5ers who are middleaged and live in there parents basement as 3.0 will destroy all other firmwares thanks to all the newer support it has, especially the ps1 emulator WooT
homebrew is becoming less and less every day someday crisis core will be out everyone will want it but uh oh whats this? No homebrew program will run the game no matter what happens.. its stupid when people post on playstations boards about homebrew.. then wonder why its shut down.. oh well long live the PSP ^_^
You guys will never be happy with SONY. They never said they would update every 5 seconds just to keep you satisfied. Sell the damn thing if you are so upset with it........I thought so
P.S. Beats the hell out of DS
