Is this software working without a GPS Receiver? I just want a map of my city on my psp, and this comes in handy IF it was working without the GPS Receiver. Anyone got the info?
That's awesome. But I just wanna know, how do you get the map data? such my place in Canada is so small, how can I do that?

basically if its on google maps its downloadable with the mentioned additional softwares.
can anyone quickly tell me (a friend of mine borrowed my psp without asking) if mapthis does that whole 'journey' thing... you know those in-car gps things let you plan a route and then tell you how to get there, well can mapthis do that?
like, can you input a postcode (uk) and it will sort of acknowledge where you're going?
i'd like it if it did, as i don't want to go buy one of those tomtom things for a fortune when clearly mapthis etc will have way more functions - being a homebrew.

you can also just use mapquest, save the map of your city as a jpg file, store it under pictures, then view it that way..

not a talking gps telling you where to turn, maybe in future releases... but you can plan out your route using a red line and follow it

I am now in Japan, holding in my hand PSP-290 GPS, MaPlus UMD and a PSP FW 3.03OE-C, THE PSP is not bought in Japan.
However, it failed to work for days. i have even waited for cold boot for 10 mins. i went to SONY Building in Ginza and asked. The staff is not sure.

when they put the satellites up there they decided not to cover australia... it's just not worth it.
GPS Reciever thing does come with a map software... but it cost extra or is in a bundle with the gps device.
the sample map works. but the map of my city wont load. the ms light thingy is flashing and the only button that works is the home button. once in they grey home screen the dpad does work and i can get back to the xmb..its like mapthis frooze up but not the psp..any suggestions?
Does Map this and the Gps reciever work if I have a 3.03 OE-C custom firmware on my PSP? Also, is the GPS and the Chotto Shot compatible with U.S. PSP's. Like, is the language in english also? And this is random, but why hasn't Sony released the Chotto Shot or the PSP GPS Reciever in the U.S.?

MapThis was ORIGINALLY developed to work with GPS receivers such as Holux GPSlim 240 and 236. It does require a special cable ($25, send via paypal, or you can make your own, components ~ $25, just buy it, easier).
I have the Holux GPSlim 240, it works with my GPS, Windows PC, and Motorola SLVR L7 bluetooth cell-phone. Much better than getting the PSP-290 which only works with your PSP.
MapThis uses map images, downloaded from map sites such as Google, Live! Local, etc., via a program by in7ane called Global Map Download Tool.
As long as you live above ground on planet Earth, GPS receiver will work, hence the word GLOBAL in GPS. And as long as Google/Live!Local has map (street maps, satellite images, aerial images, hybrid maps, etc.) for your area, IT WILL WORK.
Lastly, MAPTHIS IS FREE!!! You just gotta pay for the equipments. If you're in the US and are interested in getting the Holux 240, I got mine from Semsons (a merchant on Amazon.com).

and to respond to the question before my post, MapThis is currently being developed, so it's being updated on a regular basis. So yea, i'm sure it works with the latest HOMEBREW-COMPATIBLE (OPEN EDITION) firmware.

F.ukcing retard!! MapThis! works with maps of Mars and Moon as well, DOUBLE CHECK GMDT very carefully.
As of the rest yes, guys DON'T buy $$$ony stpuid cr4p!! You'll only be able to use on the PSP, whereas HOLUX or other compatible GPS can be use in many more devices.
I think HOLUX 240 is pretty kewl
