Wifimax_psp_groupAt last, you can connect your PSP to the internet easily, cheaply and WIRELESSLY! With WiFi MAX, a whole world of online gaming is opened, and you can also manage your files and surf the net from almost anywhere in the house.

WiFi MAX for PSP couldn't be simpler to use. Just plug your USB WiFi dongle into your internet-enabled PC to create a Wireless Access Point. You can then connect to the internet and play online-enabled multiplayer games with PSP gamers from all over the world. Just the thing if you don't have a wireless router! Best of all, WiFi MAX supports up to five 'local' PSP gamers at a time, so you and your mates can all play online at once!

As well as multiplayer games, WiFi MAX also lets you organise your media files and download them to your PC using our exclusive MAX Media Server software. Transfer MP3s, images and video files from your PC to your PSP from anywhere that's within range of your new WiFi network. As it operates on the Wireless G standard, it's five times faster than an ordinary WiFi connection, and if you use our USB cable and dongle stand (supplied), you can position your dongle to maximise your effective WiFi range.Wifi_installer

If you have other WiFi-enabled devices capable of using the internet, such as laptops or PDAs, you can take them online with WiFi MAX too. It's the ultimate device for internet surfing without a WiFi router!

Features

  • Internet gaming through any internet-enabled PC.
  • No cables necessary – make a wireless connection.
  • Organise your files, and convert videos into a PSP-friendly format.
  • Five times faster than standard WiFi.
  • Suppled with software CD and WiFi dongle, and also a USB cable and stand for optimal positioning.

Datel's WiFi MAX costs £29.99 (UK) or $39.99 (USA), and is out now.

having a 802.11g access point does boost the range of an 802.11b device (I am running a Pre-n access point and my psp can access it from 10x as far away as it could with an 802.11b access point)

so this is still usable

So you can get this, with its low security, limited range, needs the PC on all the time. Or add £7 and get a top of the range linksys router with firewall, better range and better security. Or if you live in the US get a router for $8 after rebates. Hmm, what a tough choice.

And to the guy saying "The DS has had this for ages, ive been waiting!" Why, why have you been waiting, wireless access points that cost less! have been around for ages. You make it sound like the PSP hasnt been online all this time.

Do yourselves a favor, get a proper router for the little extra (or less if your in the US). Whats the point if you have to turn your PC on?

Also, if your now saying "but I dont have a network card" get one, they cost 99p on ebay or £2 from ebuyer.com

Ive also seen testimonials from people saying its not so easy to just install and go, you need to do a lot of config and a router is easier to setup (really, they are!)

Actually, I get why so many people have been waiting for this. they think it will get ALL games online. LOL, speaking to some people now and they think games like wipeout, GTA, Ridge and more will magically play online...

They WONT!!! unless by some miracle you can get it to work with Xlink Kai.

The games still need to be infrastructure enabled such as Twisted metal, Fifa, NBA etc. Wipeout and the others will still NOT play online with or without this.

but does this broadcast a wireless internet connection that if not secured other people can exploit your internet access?

This is the best thing ever.
The only thing that suckes about it, and thats a big thing: Ur PC gotta be on all the time, If you shut it down, then ur WIFI is also down... That kinda sucks.

Im talking about this on some other forums for 2 weeks now, and one guy bought it. He's still waiting for it to arive, and if he thinks its cool a whole lot of people will also buy it! :D

Ok. Mine arrived this morning. I have to say it does work, but this is the most fiddly piece of **** in the world!

First it worked, then it didn't, then it screwed by conenction to my router over, then it worked again but my normal internet conenction didn't, then it didn't work, then I restarted and it... did't work, now it's on and off working...

Why the **** can't it just work! It's not got a hard job!

I think it might have something to do with my router, but it's still being a pain in the arse.

As for the whole 802.11g business. This is an 802.11b/g dongle, so it is compatible with the PSP. The reason why g is involved is it means other peripherals can use it to. So to all those arseholes who believe this doesn't work becuase it;s not b, go sodomize yourselves...

Anyways, I'm going back to try and get this working again!

wireless G is faster than B, but the PSP only supports B right? so this is just a waste of money. just pick up a wireless router for the same price or cheaper.

Okay, I'm confused here.

The PSP supports 802.11b, which has a maximum raw data rate of 11Mbit/s.

This thing will let me use 802.11g, which the PSP doesn't even support?

Dont be stupid, they wouldnt release it if it didnt work with the PSP, theyve obvoiusly tested it....

^ No, I think you understood his question wrong.

Yes, the psp will support it, because 802.11g is backward compatible with 802.11b which is what the psp only supports.

Meaning, the psp can't use the WiFi max to it's full potential. The answer to this is that the WiFi is meant to be an access point for those who don't already have a wireless router. And because it supports other devices that need a wifi connection to get online (ie: laptop/pda) that MAY support 802.11g, they decided to make it that.

so would this work with dial up,, i know itll be very slow,, but would it work?

Yes thie will work with dial up. Up till a few days ago i had dial up. Now this dose work with the psp and other WiFi items. I bought it and tested it with my psp, laptop and a second desktop computer. Had no problems. I get range through out my house and outside my house. Now for all you whom are worried about security if you create a true network point out of it you can use any WiFi based security. Mine is password protected and safe for me. Noone is able to exploit my internet or network up to it. Sure it's price is kinda high but it is portable so if you go to a friends house who dosent have a WiFi connection it can just fit in your pocket and just carry it. Witch you wouldent be able to do with a big router. No cables to worry about beacuse you dont need the docking station to use it. Just plug it in and set it up thats it. I suggest this product to people that dont have WiFi connection or that have friends with computers online but no WiFi beacuse like i said its portable just like my psp.

For all of you who say to buy a router.. I can't carry that into school plug it in and use the net. But if I were to log on to a computer and plug this in I could. (The use of the wireless is incrypted and requires a password. But with the hard wired connection I am logged on already) So unless you dont already have a wireless router in your place of living or dont live with in walking distance of a Starbucks or Panera this would be good. But who doesnt live more than a mile from a Starbucks these days???

oh how i love being an anonymous coward. well i just cant be *****ed sining up.

My solution to the problem is either geting a wireless router as you must allready have a router to use cable or T1 or get your neighbour to buy a wireless router

or

Go and find an access point somewhere thats unsecure. Theres millions of them so why not use them. Now with the psp it makes it so easy. This way, you also dont have to have your computer turned on!
