Sony reveals 16GB Memory Stick PRO Duo scheduled for March

Sony Memory Stick PRO Duo 16GB - Image 1Like what some people anticipated, Sony has announced the 16GB Memory Stick PRO Duo with a US$ 300 price tag. Come March, it'll be available for all your storage needs. Yep, that means more space for homebrew and other media on the Sony PlayStation Portable.

Back in February 2007, it was said that this version of the Memory Stick will be available this year. Considering how early the 16GB model will hit stores, it probably won't be too much of a dream to see 32GB Pro Duo sticks which are scheduled for 2009.

Without a doubt, owners of VAIO, Walkman, Cyber-shot, and other Sony products will also be delighted to have larger storage space. For us QJ.NET folks? That means more homebrew, of course!

Credit goes to SephXII for the nice tip.

Thats good. Now I can hold more homebrew, more ISO's, more media on it. But I just got my 4gb so that sucks aswell.

actually, I doubt homebrew will work well on this...

remember that homebrew runs well only upto 4gb sticks, with problems with 8gb or more sticks...

Why does Sony even MAKE these things? Obviously they don't want us pirating stuff.

What, so now I can load more useless crap onto my PSP? 170,000 themes at once! Wow!

I have had my 8GB memory stick for a lil over a month now.. no issues with Homebrew, ISO's, CSO, or Media. My prototype HDD on the PSP works a lil buggy but the storage (a 20GB HDD from an Ipod) works fine.

Actually the reason they do this is for there cameras because there cameras also use MEMORY STICK PRO DUO ASWELL! and there recorders and everything else.

Sony Memory stick pro duos arent used just for the PSP, there also used for Sony cameras, video cameras, and so on.

Its for the people that use the video cameras that like to tape people on camera.

Also PSP is a multi media device, so you can put music, movies, pictures, homebrew, ISO's, almost everything you want on it.

I remember 4 gigs coming out at 250 and it went down, then 8 gigs came out for 300 bucks, I call this pretty good because 8 gig came out at 300 dollars, when it was announced.

Also its good for the people that need a bigger memory stick pro duo cause when this hits the market, that means the 4 gig will go down in price and so will the 8 gig, which is what alot of us want.

Since 1 gig sucks.

uhm there are files called media which consumes big space on a memory stick like Music (mp3 acc etc), Videos (MP4, AVI etc), Pictures (jpg etc), and of course PS1 games from the PS Network.

Sony is also planning on rolling out media purchases (later) on its PSN online service just like what Apple itunes does.

is nice (borat impression)

this is cool, but I am worried about programs like flashers and other homebrew, cuz my 8gb doesnt let me run programs like psp wardrobe or psp filer. Maybe someone can come up with a patch or a plugin that lets these programs work on a large stick like mine...

It's the 1.50 firmware that only support up to 4 GB.

Higher firmware supports up to 32 Gb!

That was right on time and I was considering a second 4gb stick.

With the 16gb stick coming out the 4gb ones are gonna drop even more.

# More pirated memory stick duodreizbone 2008-01-07 23:36
In our country, Fake and Original Memory Stick Duo are in the market. The fake MSD is half the price of the original MSD. Therefore the 16 GB MSD will have a half price. More demands will be observe from the consumers.

P.S.

I'm not saying you prefer to fake MSD, it's you're choice..

Play Safe!!!.....

I feel ripped off, I bought an 80 dollar 4 gig, then a month later (So I can't return it), I find a place selling 8 gigs for the same price, and now the 16 gigs are coming out.

I've tested a sample Sony 16GB Mark2 Memory Stick and my PSP wouldn't recognize my ISO folder. It finds everything else I place on the stick including photos, mp3s and videos. Could this be a protection put in place by Sony to prevent against ISO loading? This has really put a damper on my dreams of put more games on my PSP.

I've scoured the net looking for answers with no luck.

# Wait till the 32GB Memory Stick Pro duo comes out!PSPMAN90 2008-01-27 14:00
Yeah! Wait why keep wasting your money if then it comes a better thing and in the same or little more price! So stop playing dumb! Thats what they want! Just wait until 32 GB Ms pro duo comes out and oviouly this 16gb one would downprice as the previous one! and the 32Gb would be like 300 too or alittle more, Remember when the 8 Gb came it cost 300 too, no it must be in 200 or 150 but see price goes down, if no many ppl buy, I mean Sony could do the same as apple to have his device with 80gm! ( I pod video), but sony said was better if they sold MS by separately so we waste more and they gain more! Also the PSP would cost more than just plenty 250 bucks back there. But see the I pod video may have 80gb but is Big enough and no so much features to butt out of the SCENE! So now it cost 200 or 150 maybe a 100! So would u think would happen to the psp if it had 80Gb from the start...

Yeah tough! So wait til 32GB comes out and stop wasting money! I'm sure will take time to another MS pro duo comes out then!

Thank U''

Cheers :
