PSP's GPS Receiver is on Play-Asia |
Enterprising PSP owners may want to put their heads on the shoulder of a Sony Exec and cry, especially since the GPS attachment for the PSP is selling very briskly. Finding one is certainly more difficult than some would bargain for. If you've got a Japanese PSP that is begging for a new enhancement, then you may want to check Play-Asia for some goodies.
Our trained ninja hamster spies snuck deep into the headquarters of Play-Asia and have recently uncovered that the importers are currently selling GPS Receiver units. Their selling price, sans shipping, is US$ 59.99. Of course, what you intend to do with it if you don't live in Japan is beyond us, but if you're visiting there or live in the area, this might be a good chance for you to grab one if you can't find one in the immediate vicinity.
You may want to use an actual map with the system though, just to be sure. Happy global positioning!

Now i wont get Lost
Get some sleep little boy!
I am getting one ASAP, Once i find out it works on DevHook...
Watch and see. Sony talked about all the 'things' the PSP can do and how it would revolutionize portable gaming. What has the PSP done that is special?
when is this and the camera supposed to be released in the states
oz7171
god dam!
done that is soo different as well? Don't even say touch screen either...that feature is worthless and doesn't make games fun at all. At least the PSP is more than a gaming system...thats what it is doing differently. But it is best at gaming IMO.
Wanted in the U.S.
You ever played a DS dumbass?
I hope it's 50% readable in english. Not like chotto Shot.(PSP camera).
Why they never realease these goodies in the USA.
yes I played a DS and was not very impresed so STFU. I will never trade my psp for the DS just to play so recycled mario game, sometimes you get tired of the same mario this donk kong that, be a little bit original, i bet you would beg for a GPS on your DS.
WANTED WORLDWIDE!!!!
Sony doesn't seem to understand that there's high demand for these products worldwide. They still haven't released it on the States and that pisses me off. Hell, even Europe has a white PSP, but US don't!. I think the incompetents here are Sony Computer Entertainment of America. They are the lazy scumbags. SCEE and SCEJ release good stuff on their regions, but SCEA are too lazy to follow up...
Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to rain on your parade or anything, but why do people seem so obsessed with the PSP camera? It's probably not going to be any higher than 1.3 MPixels (1024x768), if that high, and I doubt it'll have a lot of controls (brightness, shutter speed, etc.). I don't see it being used a lot in games, because it's not like the EyeToy where you can set it up five feet away so your entire body fits on the screen.
So why do people seem to want this so much? With exception to the ability to move pictures to your PC, this reminds me a lot of the ill fated GameBoy Camera (anyone else remember that thing?).
Like I said, I'm not trying to bring you guys down. If Sony brings the camera to the PSP Camera to the US, then good for you. It's not like they're going to force me to buy it (well, knowing Sony...), I'm just trying to understand the appeal of this thing.
I'll admit, I'm not quite sure why Sony isn't selling the White PSP here, but it's not too surprising that there are peripherals released for the PSP in Japan that don't make it here. The Sega Saturn had VCD and navigation software for sale, but it never made it state-side. It may have been that the Saturn never really took off here, or it could have been that the American public still preferred paper maps over electrical ones (You'll find a lot of people today who still feel that way). Or maybe the peripheral just plain sucks. Let's face it, we don't know what this thing is like. I haven't read any reviews of it. Perhaps the GPS unit is slow as hell, maybe it's maps are too limited, for all we know the antennas receive poor signals, or there are a large number of defective units. I think it was a Game Informer editor (back when FuncoLand shilled for them... man I'm old!) who said that for every one good game that gets released in Japan, there are ten more where you don't know if you should laugh or cry. I'd say the same is true of peripherals. Remember, Sony is a business, and it's their goal to turn a profit (well, given their track record recently, I'm starting to wonder...)
Yes, the Dual Screen has a touch screen. It has TWO screens. This actually IS a big thing. Some games make poor use of the touch screen (Advance Wars comes to mind), some make good use of it (I find aiming in Metriod Prime: Hunters easier than I do in Ghost In The Shell or FireTeam Bravo). Some games exclusively use the touch screen for interaction. It's really kind of nice.
The PSP really doesn't revolutionize gaming. By the same token, neither did the GameBoy Advance, the XBox 360, or the PlayStation 3. "Revolutionizing " is just a marketing term. They're MARKETING for crying out loud, marketers always promise things that'll never happen.
Oh, before this erupts into a huge PSP vs. DS flame war, you CAN like one, and still like the other. It's not like you can only like one. And so what if someone likes the DS better? Some people make this out to be a holy war. Get over it, it's a gaming console. It's not that uncommon for someone to own multiple consoles these days (Our house had an XBox, PS2 and a GameCube, as did a couple of my friends). The DS is nice, but I couldn't see playing Katamari on it.
if this does work with japan only psps and we were to use it in america usin devhook.... would we get maps and crap or r we just screwed over as usual for the psp???
DS is for girls.................. same way ipod mini is for girls... so if u got one or the other then u are a ***** .
this guy knows the crack! lmao you get it off borat? i torchard all my freinds because there all girls and have the ipod mini but i have ipod video n wen a saw the movie they were all gutted lmao
AND YES THE DS IS SHHHH.....T !!!! BIG CHUNKY PLASTIC HORRIBLE OLD PLAYING GAMES CONSOLE !! HA!
The DS is an awesome handheld and offers way more than the PSP ever will. The PSP powerful, but useless when it comes to games, the only thing it's good for is hacking, homebre w and piracy.
ROFL kurt that ***** was funny
I've d/l'd and played just about every psp game ever released and the majority of the games just suck. there not fun at all, or have bad graphics or terrible controls. the games just aren't fun to play.
custom FW is great and everything, but a unmodded DS beats an unmodded PSP hands down any day
Even Europe - a collection of the worlds richest per capita countries?
What's your point when you say that?
Kinda like saying 'even saudi arabia has oil'
Of course they're gonna market to europe. the continent has more well off gamers than the US...
The UK alone is the world's third largest game buying country.
I read a couple of weeks ago that Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops would support GPS... That was a good reason for me to preorder it.
What do you think buddies.. will MGS Portable Ops run with the japanese GPS Receiver?
are you a F*U*C*K*I*N*G moron facehugger...... a unmodded ds is knowere as good as a unmodded psp....wow u must be a real idiot.....................let god have mercy on ur soul...lol
Yeah, you use the GPS in Metal Gear Solid to "recruit" people, but you can use the WiFi.
1.3 MP is not 1024x768. 1024x768 is 0.784MP, simple multiplication dude. 1.3MP is 1280x1024. Im sure people or little kids with no digital cameras will find it useful for their psp. Im looking forward to the GPS receiver tho.
