PSP LCD Remote with FM radio - Image 1You all know what to expect with these accessories for your PlayStation Portable (PSP). Sometimes they are really something and useful, other times they are just completely unnecessary. We found one today over at online site Brando.com and we'll leave it up to you to decide if you want to get one or not.

The product itself doesn't have a proper name but it is actually an LCD Remote for your handheld. We believe the selling point of this product is its built-in FM stereo radio. Not to be cynical but the said site actually misspelled the word "radio" and
again, it's your call if you'll be turned off by that or not.

Anyway, it was mentioned that the product offers complete remote functionality with your PSP not to mention its easy-to-switch function between radio and PSP mode. Take note though that the LCD Remote doesn't come with its own battery so its power source is coming directly from the console.

The Read link below should take you to the product page and kindly tell us what you think about the product. On a last note, be informed that LCD Remote is not an official Sony product. The online site originates from Hong Kong.

don't worry

I bought this a month or so ago ( found out about it from a review DCEMU did here http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t+49889)it's drain on the battery is next to none. I tested it and found that even when your psp battery is so low that it shuts its self off, and you can't use it for anything else. you can still have the radio on at max volume for at least another 3hrs. It works in the psp's sleep mode. I don't know exactly how long because after 3hrs I stopped caring and went to bed and when I got up it wasn't on. so if all you did with the psp was use the radio it probably would last over 24hrs maybe even 2 days. the problems with it though are mislabeled buttons. (You can even tell they are wrong in the pictures that are on the page linked) the FF is really rewind and vice versa. and when the psp does things like boot a game the radio temporally stops. also you can only read the lcd from an angle. it has good reception better than the average portable radio. I like it and definitely think it's worth the money. as to weather it will sell well griffin (the company known for it's ipod accessories) probably thought so because they made there own version http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/ifmpsp/ DCEMU reviewed it too http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t+54308

Oh GOD

It's a device that acts as a remote for your PSP thats all. The so called Radio function doesn't port FM radio through your PSP rather plug the head set directly into the device for radio. Something like this would be cool if in fact it truely added Radio reception directly to the PSP instead of via a device. But alast they are one and the same. Ok so you can't have radio reception on the PSP it's self but through a device attached to it. You can't play the stream directly on the PSP but only through a headset or speakers plugged into the device it's self. You are probably doing this already with your PSP, that is plugging a headset or speakers to it due to the PSP's built in speakers are just not loud enough for great listening. This device is what it is and we can ask any more from it. I wouldn't knock it but as the QJ staff presents, it's up to you to decide. This is the only way you will get radio with your PSP even if it doesn't play/stream directly through to the speakers on your PSP. Tiny enough of a device, at least you don't have to carry around a Radio with you if you in fact just had to have one. These days though, FM radio fits in a thumb drive while this is both a remote and radio minus the storage capasity of the thumb drive. $20 dallors for a radio and a PSP controller? Controller comes with even the most basic of PSP packages. What would be impressive is, if the stream could broadcast via the PSP's built in speakers and transmitte PSP media stream to an external audio source, controller being a bonus. Good enough to mention on QJ but not good enough to purchase.

much cheapness

may as well get a griffin one, £14.50 delivered on eBay.

...

as said for another psp radio product, it turns the psp into nothing but an oversized battery, and i say the remote is just novelty. fm radios come that size for about $20, standalone ones.

.

Buy the griffen, it is much better quality and works great! Only thing I wish it had: HD radio, that would be GREAT for a portable device.

At Wicked_Insider

You are very stupid......if a remote is plugged in, you can't play though the speakers regardless.....

Radio Remote

I used to have one of those, the volume button spoilt on me in less than 2 months with the button becoming indented. It tends to hang on you so you have no idea that pressing the volume buttons up and down will be of no use. Please get a griffith. It has better build than this thing. I got this PSP lcd remote radio from my local game shop for 36 Singapore dollars and regretted it alot.

Btw, can anyone tell me where I can get the Griffin radio in the UK? I don't to pay double the money it's worth on shipping.

Griffin/Archos

Griffin has had this exact accessory out for a year or so. I have the Griffin one, and it's ok, not the best, but at least it still can use radio in sleep mode. It can also pick up signals in the US, UK, and Japan. So when I go back to Japan, I can use it to listen to the radio. When will there be one like my Archos remote. Sure I lost it, and my Archos mp3/mp4 player is pretty much dead, but that remote was the best. It was very small and light weight, it displayed the song that was being played, and could be used to shut down the system. Why can't some company, or even Sony come up with something like this. The Sony remote is useless compared to this, heck it is useless compared to the Griffon and this one I'm, commenting to.
by - 2007-05-08 10:39:39
haha

lol, my old MP3 player was like that (FF was rewind and vice versa). Unluckily, it got stolen because of my bigger brother who left it in the dressing room at a boxing fair. >+(

You can

Talkman has an option to put the sound through speakers even when the audio port is pluged in.. the sound goes through the speakers and earphones... makes it like surround sound...
